Please be aware that most fell and moorland is privately owned, and you walk there by the courtesy of the owners. Please do not abuse this privilege. Show your appreciation to the National Park and land owners by adhering to the Letterbox Owners/Hunters code, and educating others in this practise.

LETTERBOX OWNER'S CODE.

Boxes should not be sited:-

1.      In any kind of antiquity, in or near stone rows or circles, cists or cairns; nor in any kind of building, walls or ruins.

2.      In any potentially dangerous situation where injuries could be caused.

3.      As a fixture. Cement or any other building material is not to be used.

 LETTERBOX HUNTERS' CODE.

When searching for boxes:-

1.      Do not disturb any antiquities such as stone rows, circles, cists or cairns, nor any buildings, walls or ruins - there will be no boxes there.

2.      Replace the box as carefully as you would hope to find it.

3.      Notify the owner in case of  a problem / damage etc. 

4.      Leave the site better than you find it! You are encouraged to take away any litter left by people who care for the moor less than you do.

5.      ALWAYS Follow the Country Code!

 THE COUNTRY CODE

1.       Guard against all risks of fire.

2.       Fasten all gates.

3.       Keep your dog under proper control.

4.       Keep to the paths across farmland.

5.       Avoid damaging fences, hedges, and walls.

6.       Leave no litter.

7.       Safeguard water supplies.

8.       Protect wildlife, wild plants and trees.

9.       Go carefully on country roads.

10.     Respect the life of the countryside.
