Welcome!         'Almost 100 Clues' updated May 08

Do you enjoy getting out into the great outdoors? Are you looking for an activity the whole family can enjoy? Letterboxing combines an intriguing mix of treasure hunting, hiking, orienteering, map reading, exploring, puzzle solving and creative expression in a unique activity that's rapidly growing in popularity. It takes the ancient custom of placing a rock on a cairn upon reaching the summit of a mountain to an artform.

Once you've tried it there's no going back ! .

People from all walks of life go Letterboxing, they spread from Cornwall to Scotland, and farther afield to the USA, Holland, Germany and New Zealand.

Letterboxing is a healthy, very enjoyable recreational hobby, while at the same time being educational, teaching the walker to appreciate the special, sensitive beauty of the outdoors, and to instil the desire to protect it for future generations.

It gives an excuse to discover and explore new areas and locations whilst in the pursuit of stamps and in addition provides a creative outlet. Try designing your own stamp, try carving your own stamp and share your favourite spots with others.

This site is dedicated to the growing number of boxes within the boundaries of Cumbria, the English Lake District.
