Why join a Union?

Unions benefit us all

I’d like to remind critics what unions are for. Without unions, there would have been no health and safety policies from employers, no representation is cases of grievance, no protection from bullying at work, no opportunity for whistle blowing on bad practice, no representation on disciplinary procedures, no free legal advice, no equal pay for women, no special leave for carers, no representation in cases of racial and sexual harassment and no one to stand up for the value of it’s member’s work through annual pay negotiations.

It always amazes me how many people come to join the union only when they need support for themselves. Unions are the for the benefit of everyone and we should be thankful we still have the right to belong to one, unlike so many people before us.
