For many 2011 has been a tough year but it has gone very quickly and as this Newsletter is drafted in late November many trees are still in beautiful autumnal colour.

There have been ups and downs but we are fine and excited as we approach our 50th Wedding Anniversary next July. As we get older slowing down a little we are keen to spend as much time as possible with family & friends.

As often happens there have been this year a number of people who have passed away who contributed to our lives one of whom was Sheila, Lucy’s mother, whose company we will sadly miss on family occasions.

Anne still enjoys her Art Class and weekly Aqua Therapy – although not for three months after her knee replacement surgery in early September. But she is now back to the pool as she is making good progress and works hard to get back her full mobility.

Leslie is proud to have served for ten years as a Trustee of the charity Bath Cancer Unit Support Group. He took on this role from his brother Michael who passed away in 2001 after years fighting cancer.

In March an important event was Shirley joining the 70s Club. She has been a great help to us for over 20 years and loves walking Buddie our lovely goldie. We are very grateful to her.

A very lovely experience in March was to enjoy a delightful Weekend in the Cotswolds at The New Inn, Coln St Aldwyns which was for us a special treat given to us by Mark & Lucy.

Like many in April we enjoyed celebrating the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate which we watched on TV at our neighbours.

In May it was a super experience to enjoy the Bath Musical Festival’s event at Bath Abbey in which Harvey and his school chums took part.

In June it was great to go with Rosalind and friends John & Sandra to the Theatre Royal in Bath to a gig by Acker Bilk. Always fantastic to hear him play our tune "Stranger on the Shore".

A special time for us was in July spending time in Sweden with dear friends Anna & Lennart.

It was good to catch up with them and their family and to be with them as Anna was recovering after breast cancer surgery whilst we were there. She is still receiving chemotherapy and is very strong and positive about the future. To be with them to enjoy a celebratory lunch as we entered the 50th year of our marriage was superb.

In early August we had three lovely days staying in a nice B& B near Gorran Haven where we arrived on the beach to surprise Mark, Lucy and their three youngsters as well as Neil, Joanne, Daisy and Daniel who were all down there for their holiday.

Gorran is such a special place to us and it was super for us to be there with them.

During the school summer holidays we had some grandparent duties which we enjoyed as usual.

Anthea and Paul are very happy and are busily involved with the Batheaston community. Emelia (soon will be 14) is enjoying senior school and Harvey (now 10) is doing well in his last year at primary school. Anthea enjoys her challenging job managing a shop for the charity Genesis.

After a very long time job-hunting Neil has a new role working for a business consultancy.

Following a major extension to her home Neil now lives with Joanne in Thornbury – it is great that they are together.

Daisy (now 13) is doing well at school especially sports as is Daniel (soon 11) enjoying his drums. Joanne’s delightful daughters have excelled with Imogen starting at Exeter University studying Medicine and Lydia in her exams at school.

Mark, Lucy and their R.E.A.L.M are fine and busy with many activities in their home village of Rode.

The twins Eleanor and Robert (now 8) and Alice (now 10) are enjoying their new school All Hallows with activities including Swimming, Rugby, Hockey, Cricket, Football even following Mark into Golf!

Our greatest asset as ever is our family and a large and supportive circle of friends. It is great that our seven lovely grandchildren are so happy, becoming such wonderful people and as ever stay such good friends.

We have enjoyed catching up with friends for lunch and visits to stay with friends and some of them visiting us.
