HOUSEHOLD: The public water supply uses 16,765 million lires each day - roughly 26 per cent of the total daily abstractions.
IRRIGATION: About one-fifth of the agricultural use is for spray irrigation.
FORESTS: The woodland cover is twice the area in 1920. Roughly 75 per cent of the three million acres of woodland in England and Wales is broadleaf or mixed species.
Since April 991, 25,000 hectares or more than 60,000 acres of farmland [nearly 100 square miles] has been planted with trees - roughly 84 million in all.
PONDS Lowland ponds are found across the country - around 230,000 in England and Wales, according to the DETR's own figures. The latest figures represent an increase of 12,200 on the number found in 1990.
