BUNWELL, a considerable village, 4 miles E. of Attleborough, and 13 miles S.W. by S. of Norwich ; has in its parish 186 houses, 979 souls, and 2,423 acres of land, the property of various owners, the largest of whom is Sir Robert Jacob Buxton, Bart., who is lord of the manors of Bunwell, Banyards, and Peri's Hall (fines arbitrary) ; but the Rev. Jas. Stoughton has a small manor, called Beaucham-in-Bunwell. The Church, dedicated to St. Michael, has a fine tower and south porch, and is a rectory, valued in the King's book at £17, in the patronage of Sir R. J. Buxton, Bart., and incumbency of the Rev. H. Dawson, M.A. In 1836 a yearly rent of £760 was awarded in lieu of tithes. The Town Lands, invested in trust from an early period, for the payment of tenths and fifteenths, repairing the church, &c., consist of 16a. 1r. 22p., produce £22 per annum, which is applied with the church rates. The Fuel allotment, 18a. 1r. 22p., awarded at the enclosure in 1812, is let for £19 a year. Here is a National school, attended by about forty children.

Post Office at Mrs. Jemima Roper's. Letters arrive at 8 a.m., and are despatched at 6.30 p.m.
