Sat. very light wind, rain, not warm, set off around 11.30 towards
Howtown, four boats, Al,Bruce,Christine and John.
At Howtown it started to blow a bit from the valley behind Howtown but once passed it and in the
lee of the high hill just south it died down again. Christine turned back
to the club house, but couldn't start her motor (We fixed it the next
day - a nylon line wrapped round the prop.) The other 3 boats eventually
reached the first beach on the left where we stopped last year. Took
about 2 hours to get there, very light running wind on return sail. Al and
Bruce paddled I believe.
John sailed all the way (drifted more like it).
Had a race without start or finish instigated by John, who in the evening
tested our observation while we sailed back, asking questions on the
strangest animal seen, rarest bird seen or heard, name of as many boats we
had passed, who was carrying the strangest object on their boat etc, etc.
Al won the competition. We ate at the club.
Sunday. Grey, rain in the morning, not warm a little more wind than Sat.
Set off again for Glen Ridding but turned back at Lords Birkett's memorial.
Bruce and Angela deciding they had had enough. We all returned to club
house by lunchtime. rain nearly all the time straight run back. Just three
boats, Christine and Jan stayed at the club house. The sun came out in the
afternoon and wind rose, a bit warmer. Bruce helmed Christine's boat with
three up and John took out Jim and Alan. Jan and Angela stayed on shore.
White horse run down to Pooley bridge.Ate in club house in the evening.
Mon. Grey colder and windy , John Jim and Christine took a turn southwards
with a run all the way back to the clubhouse.
