In his first year as Chairman, Barry is one of our younger members, having served in the REME. He saw active service in Bosnia and the North of Ireland. Always willing to learn, and to improve himself, with his presence we take heart that the branch has a long and good future.

Social Committee

Flo is one of our most active Branch members, not only is she our Branch Secretary, but is secretary of our Service Committee and our Social Committee. Flo has been a great motivator for the branch giving it new impetus and drive.

As East Ham and District Branch of the Royal British Legion is a Branch, and use The West Ham Supporters Club for our meetings and Social evenings, the number of functions we can have throughout the year are limited, we therefore make the most of them.

During the last year we have had very successful visits to the Poppy Factory, Chelsea Hospital, Dagenham RBL Club.

We have had numerous dances including a poppy appeal dance, Queens 50th Anniversary Dance and many more:

Branch Treasurer

Mr Allan White

email: ellean@snowey96.freeserve.co.uk

Allan has the unenviable job of sorting out our accounts. As a Legion Branch, we have no club to support us, and much of our time is spent raising monies to run the Branch. Allan spends much of his time ensuring we don’t squander it!

John Dines, one of our Mature members, having joined the army before the Second World War, and becoming a Japanese prisoner for the majority of the war, ending up on the Bridge over the River Kwai. John has a forceful character and is very good at encouraging new members. He works especially hard at encouraging the young to join.

The Rev. Peter Turner, vicar of St. George and Ethelbert in East Ham, has been our moral and spiritual guide ever since he moved to East Ham, and unfortunately will be leaving us this year. As well as visiting our sick and depressed members, Peter officiates at our Remembrance Day Service each year in Central Park East Ham
