A Typical Branch Meeting |
This is a first attempt at trying to let people
know about the unique character of East Ham and District Branch, we meet at
The West Ham Supporters Club in We have not been at the West Ham Supporters
Club very long, about three years now, however, West Ham Football club and
the Branch have a long term association. Of the Three major visits by Royalty
to the Boleyn Football Ground, The most memorable being when the Prince of
Wales attended a Charity match between West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur

Also, having their meetings at the West Ham
Supporters Club are the West Ham Branch of the Royal Naval Association, many
of whom are members of our Branch as well, (and Visa versa).. Our meetings try to be a careful mix of humour,
discussion and action. We don’t always get it right, but we do try hard. We
are aware that for some of our members, Tuesday evenings are their Saturday
nights and our meetings are their entertainment. We are not a big branch, we
have some 114 members’ altogether, and every evening we manage to have
between 20 and 40 members present. A few facts that I do know, the Branch was one
of the founding branches formed in 1921, and that it was the Branch that
formed the Taxi School which closed its doors only last year. |

Our latest piece of fame is that in April this year,
the branch featured on the BBC’s voices series after the news. Unlike many Branches of the British Legion, we
continue to increase in numbers, and continue to attract many young members.
This year with the new Youth Membership, we are proud that we currently have
3 youth members, as well as 6 trained standard bearers. |
