The present-day Felley Priory is now a privately owned house dating probably from the 16th Century
but occupying the site of the 12th Century Augustinian Priory. Few actual remains of the original Priory are visible.
Some seventeen Group members attended and with the active involvement of the owners we split into smaller groups to
pursue different dowsing activities. The day was probably the hottest of the year with a hot sun in a cloudless sky.
Several members agreed to look for water, below ground, in William Wood covering higher ground to the east. Some were
fortunate in being conveyed in the estate four-wheel drive; the remainder walked.
Other members trekked to the north of the Priory, initially looking for a reported recumbent stone but, in the absence
of the stone in the fields adjacent, a search was initiated to find the original Priory water supply.
With full access to the beautiful gardens, the opportunity to dowse back through time for material and spiritual and
energy presences was fully grasped.
A possible future additional water supply to the large ornamental pond was sought and the reported presence of a
cellar beneath one of the estate private houses gave a further objective in our dowsing.
The opportunity to discuss our findings was given when the owner invited all members into the tea-room to enjoy cold
and very much appreciated drinks.
Our thanks are given to the owner of Felley Priory; our welcome could not have been warmer. Also, our thanks are given
to Jim Stirling's brother, John, and his wife, for facilitating our Group's visit.
