EMDG Field Report
Greasley Lost Village Project, Nottinghamshire, 2005-2008

Report by Peter Butler:

On the 13th March 2005 the EMDG took part in the first survey of fields at Greasley Notts, as part of a project to discover where the lost village might be. There are no physical remains of the "lost" village but is thought to be near the Greasley Castle Farm.

We were asked to survey by dowsing, to see if any indications might be found in the surrounding fields, the first field being the Greasley House area - a former vicarage.

On a second occasion, 10th April 2005, further investigations were carried out on an adjacent field belonging to Greasley Estates.

The results of the project were published and distributed from an official launch at the Greasley Sports and Community Centre on Tuesday April 5th 2008 and the EMDG was represented by Linda Darlison and Peter Butler.

We (The EMDG) were given a copy of the book for the group's library by the project Chairman, Councillor Neil Hutchinson who expressed the thanks of the Greasley Project.

The book can be seen online (in pdf format) at the Greasley Parish Council's web site at:

Take a look and see how the differing results are recorded by Dowsing and by the Geophysical Survey, and make up your own mind.
