Saturday December 4th

'BEATING TIME'

Folkworks' last tour of the Millenium, finishes at Allendale Village Hall

with FLOOK! plus Nancy Kerr & James Fagan

and special guests, the Allendale Middle School Ceilidh Band

Tickets are only £6.00 for this Special TRIPLE BILL with licensed bar

Kick-off at 8:00 pm, with 2 segments each of about 50 minutes in which both FLOOK! and Kerr/Fagan play half -- a real double bill plus, introducing the talents of our own junior ceilidh band, and, we hope, other guests who will have been working with FLOOK! and Nancy and Jim on the Saturday afternoon in the hall. This looks like a real family affair of great fun and super music for all!

Our promotional material sent to the local press goes like this:

The only way that music can live is if it's allowed to be alive. And the only way to keep it alive, forever, is to work with young people in live presentations, so that they will know how it feels to be right in the heart of the action.

That seems to be the credo of the Folkworks organisation, and the tours they have organised this past year have been snapped up by local communities all around Tynedale. The 'Piping Hot' tour last July was particularly appreciated all over the region, with Kathryn Tickell and friends providing an inspirational and aspirational presence amongst the young musicians they visited.

Here in our area again on a major tour laying the groundwork for future generations of musicians, Folkworks presents a double bill of superlatively accomplished musicians in 'Beating Time' in Allendale on Saturday the 4th of December.

In the week leading up to the concert, Nancy Kerr's fiddle and vocals will accompany James Fagan's virtuoso guitar work in a workshop session specially laid on for Allendale Middle School's emerging Ceilidh Band. On the Saturday afternoon, there will be a longer workshop open for all at Allendale Village Hall with the combined talents of FLOOK! featuring flautists Sara Allen and Brian Finnegan as well as bodhran player extraordinaire John Joe Kelly and sensitive guitarist Ed Boyd.

For the grand evening concert at Allendale's Village Hall, expect to hear various combinations of Kerr and Fagan along with FLOOK! and members of Allendale's Middle School Ceilidh Band, and perhaps other workshop participants, for an absolutely wonderful musical experience.

The local promoters, Northumbrian Music Nights, are virtually gobsmacked to have been chosen to present this show in Allendale, and they warn that tickets are going very fast indeed for the combined concert. Reservations which will be honoured at the door, or enquiries about the Saturday workshop can be made by telephone at (01434) 685047.

Tickets are going very fast indeed for this special show, so you may wish to reserve by emailing us, which does take a click of the mouse button.

MUSIC NIGHT at The King's Head

A lovely, intimate seasonal evening around the fire -- who could ask for anything more in a tranquil, rural setting, with a pint of the best bitter anywhere on earth, and friends entertaining the night away. It's sheer bliss, man . . . who says heaven isn't here all around us?

Friday, December 17th at Haltwhistle's South Tyne Middle School (Map ~200 Kb)

It's 'Stuff the Turkey' time!

ARTISAN are one of our very favourite performing groups of all time, and the magical, mystical thing is that they do it with voice alone. You'll never have been quite so thrilled as when you experience an evening of Artisan's Stuff The Turkey.

But don't just take our word for it -- here's what critics around the world have had to say about this amazing group:

'They sing like angels'

'Original lyrics ranging from uplifting and heartfelt to clever and tongue-in-cheek. Their harmonies are stunning and their live performance is an absolute delight'

'Spontaneous tomfoolery . . . they are unashamedly entertainers.'

'What I like about Artisan is they deal with reality. That is what sets them apart. They make you think, they make you laught, and then they let you draw your own conclusions. And that's a rare thing.'

Tickets are only £6.00, there's a licensed bar, and reservations are advised, either by emailing NMN, or telephoning your booking requirements at: (01434) 685047.

What we said about the 'Stuff the Turkey' Show

Friday, December 31st -- looks like New Year's Eve

Yes, it's that time again, our incredible annual extravaganza upstairs at The King's Head, where there's just that little bit extra room to be comfortable, rather than being squeeeeezed to a mere pulp downstairs. Expect an extra special effort on the part of our entertainers, who've been practising up for this event, all year! And this year, in fact, we're promised an extra special treat, with several debuts from our regular audience, so that will make it an A-MAZING night!

Tickets are only £7.50, there's a buffet, of course, and we'll be surprised if the limited space means that all tickets aren't all gone by the time you read this. Still, it won't hurt to try! Email NMN

After the show, we'll ensure there'll be plenty of time to get downstairs and watch the Tar Bar'l Parade, and participate in Auld Lang Syne around the bonfire.

Happy New Year!
