The George Shovlin Band

 

Rightly regarded as one of the North's leading exponents of the blues, this band has a very strong following through the region. Such quality does not come "off the peg", as the band are an integral part of the history of the blues in this country.

Since the early '60s the North-East has maintained its reputation as a hotbed for the blues. George Shovlin is one of those original musicians who is not only still going strong, but has brought together some of the region's finest musicians. The Shovlin Blues Band have evolved a distinctive style that while protecting the traditions of the blues, gives it a refreshing new vibe.

All of the numbers in the band's set list have brilliant arrangements and are superbly performed, but the band fully acknowledge the perfection of the original American blues song writers. In the show, you will hear influences from the likes of Huddie Ledbitter, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, as well as tributes to guitarists such as Lowel George, Dave Gilmore and Joe Walsh. This is British Blues at its very best, full of fresh interest, excitement and inventiveness that should please blues fans throughout the region.

The band line-up is: George Shovlin on vocals and acoustic guitar; Ian Hamilton on drums; Stu Burlison on bass and slide bass; George Lamb, who has toured with The Pretenders and Samson, on lead guitar, slide guitar.
