Welcome to The City of Ely Band's Website
The City of Ely Band is a Wind or Military style band as opposed to the more usual brass band. This means our instrumentation includes woodwind as well as brass.
Our range of music is from classical to pop, G. & S. to the
latest film and show scores and from marches and waltzes through to
Latin American -
in fact something for everyone.
Our engagements are also varied and include the ceremonial, religious, garden fetes and shows as well as concerts played indoors and out. We play in Ely Cathedral, by the riverside and at venues throughout the area.
To cater for the British weather we now perform all outdoor concerts
under the protection of a marquee. This enables us to keep playing if
it rains,
or sometimes it keeps the hot sun off us!
Our ages range from 11 to 70+ and the individual proficiency is from those who have recently learnt to play to semi-professional. There is no audition before joining nor any fee or subscription to be paid.
We rehearse every Tuesday evening
(including school holidays) from 7.30 until 9.30 at The City of Ely
College, Downham Road, Ely,in the main hall. Map.

If you haven't played in a band before you will see from the Instrumentation page that most instruments have a less demanding second or third part that you could play to find your feet.
