Warninglid takes us back to Anglo-Saxon times,and Roberts' "Sussex Place Names" suggests that the first part is a man's name , Werna, while the second part is from 'gelad'- a road or path. It will thus be seen there is no foundation for the popular meaning "a warning light",suggesting the beacons of more modern times.

Spellings are: 1460 Warnyngled; 1477 Warmyngled; 1531 Warnynglegh; 1541 Wardyngled; 1671 Warningleed.

This is a thriving village with a great deal for its residents to be involved in. It has a Residents Society,County Primary School, Cricket Club, Stoolball Club and a thespians group, The Warninglid Players.

 The village has its own church, "St. Andrews", and it has a community hall, "The Seaforth Hall".
