Important Safety Information - Please read before continuing: Carry out the steps outlined below with the grinder UNPLUGGED from the mains electricity supply. Clothing: Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery while using the grinder. They can be caught in moving parts. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair. Use protective equipment: Use safety glasses and a face mask or dust mask when polishing. Do not abuse the cable. Never pull the cable to disconnect it from the socket. Keep the cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges. Always stop the machine completely before changing polishing mops. Disconnect from the electrical supply when not in use. The grinder should fixed securely to a workbench before use. If you intend to use the original grinding wheels make sure that all guards, etc are re-fitted first. Conversion to a Polishing Machine These instructions refer to a bench grinder with a 12.5 -12.7mm (1/2") diameter shaft. The steps below will be similar for a grinder with a 16mm (5/8") diameter shaft. We sell both sizes of adapter. The information on the label indicates that it uses 150mm (6") diameter grinding wheels with a 12.7mm diameter centre hole. This means that this grinder has a 12.7mm (1/2") diameter shaft. The grinder as purchased:
IMPORTANT: Before converting your grinder make sure it is UNPLUGGED from the mains electricity supply. The first step is to remove the outer guards and the grinding wheels. One end of the shaft has a screwdriver slot to hold the shaft while a spanner is used to undo the nuts. Please note that the left hand nut has a left handed thread.
Outer guards and grinding wheels removed.
Then remove the inner guards. The shafts are then exposed ready for the adapters to be fitted.
Slide the adapters over the shafts as far as they will go, LH on the left, RH on the right. This is important because the direction of rotation of the shaft tightens the polishing mops on the adapters. Tighten the Allen screw on each adapter with an Allen key (not supplied).
Finally, screw the polishing mops tightly onto the adapter threads. You are then ready to start polishing. Please observe all safety precautions when polishing. The holes in the adapters are for a screwdriver to hold the shaft steady while fitting mops (make sure the machine is switched off first).
