Lace-art

Lace-art is my name for the type of free-lace that I am making now. I have been wanting to break away from the constraints of traditional lace patterns from some time, and I also wanted to use a much more varied selection of thread types, textures and colours. The background to the pictures is painted silk, taken from my source material. I then choose the colours of threads to correspond to those in the silk, and also a large variety of textures. I make the lace on a 1sq. cm. grid, but there is no pricking and the pins are not placed in any structured format - I let the threads decide where to go. Afterwards I choose a frame and paint it sympathetically to the lace. I also add 'found objects', tatting or needlelace to the free-lace to embellish and decorate it.
