Essential massage

Benefits of Massage

Massage is perhaps the oldest and simplest of all therapies and in traditional cultures, such as as in the East, it is accepted as natural that people of all ages can benefit from regular massage.

Regular massage:

  • relaxes the body, relieving mental, emotional and physical tension
  • reduces the effects of environmental stress and helps to protect against stress related conditions
  • stimulates the circulation
  • aids the lymphatic drainage system and removal of waste products
  • helps the immune system to work more effectively
  • helps you become more self-aware
  • improves your self esteem

Massage can help: arthritis, rheumatism, tense aching muscles, stiff joints, heart problems, high blood pressure, ulcers, mental and physical fatigue, back ache, headaches, migraine, PMT, menstrual and menopausal problems, discomfort during pregnancy, insomnia, anxiety, grief, ME, sports injuries, sinusitis.

You do not have to have a problem to benefit from a massage! It is an excellent way to help maintain good general health and induce a sense of wellbeing.

Sports Massage

Craig Benedict, one of the world's leading therapists says "a twice weekly massage is as good as taking steroids to enable you to train harder and recover quicker".

Many athletes and sports people have regular massage. Massage can complement and enhance your exercise programme.

I use massage in training, before and after exercise and sporting events, and to help rehabilitation after injury.

Benefits of sports massage:

  • Massage relaxes the muscles and stimulates the blood supply so your muscles can work more effectively and produce less waste. Your muscles are less likely to become injured.
  • Massage can help prevent stiffness and pain by stimulating the lymph system which speeds up removal of the waste materials produced during exercise.
  • Massage can also relieve cramp and speed up the recovery time from injuries such as strained muscles and sprained joints.
  • Massage can also help many conditions and is an excellent way of maintaining good general health and a sense of wellbeing.

Lymphatic drainage

In Lymphatic drainage I use different techniques from those used in Swedish massage. The movements are more specific and involve a greater pumping action on the tissues and a reduced pressure.

Common conditions to benefit from Lymph drainage massage

  • Stress
  • Poor Immunity
  • Fluid retention
  • Sluggish tissue regeneration
  • Migraine
  • Skin: there may be improved healing of scars, including keloid scars, burns, and an improvement in acne, rosacea, facial erythema, broken capillaries, oedema, chronic eczema, allergies and inflammation.

Eastern head massage

Eastern Head Massage is a simple, safe and highly beneficial therapy, which has been popular throughout the Indian sub-continent for over a thousand years. Many clients who come to me do so because of work-related stress, such as the physical stress of working at a VDU or the psychological stress of reaching targets/ coping with ongoing telephone enquiries. Such stresses frequently cause discomfort in the muscles of the head, neck and shoulders - which are the areas targeted by Indian Head Massage.

By stimulating scalp circulation, Indian head Massage relaxes the scalp, relieves eye-strain and headaches, improving concentration. It also eliminates muscle tension and restores joint movements by stretching and mobilising the tissues of the neck and shoulders, making it specially valuable to computer users.

As there is no need to undress and the massage can be carried out in an ordinary chair, the treatment may be carried out in the office, thus cutting down on the time and space required.

I can tailor the treatment to meet individual needs/timetables, taking as little as 20 minutes or as much as an hour. It may therefore be fitted in before or after work, in the lunch hour or at break-time.

No oils are used.

Reiki

Reiki energy flows through all living things and activates the body's natural ability to heal itself. It goes to core issues where many illnesses have their origin, releasing blocked energies, stress, tension and anxiety bringing about a state of balance. It is believed that the technique was first used by Tibetan Buddhist Monks and was re-discovered in the 1800's by Mikao Usui. It is a completely safe, natural and Holistic way of treating dis-ease plus much more.

The Usui system of Reiki is both a simple and a quite amazing natural healing method which is appropriate for people of all ages and conditions. Reiki is a powerful healimg force used alone, or I often use it to add an extra dimension to other therapies.
