Famous Known Worlders
Emperor Alexius I (House Hawkwood)
Regent like his father Darius before him, Alexius succeeded where his father failed and was able to become Emperor of the Known worlds. Tall with darkly handsome looks, he is regarded with almost superstitious awe by the peasantry and even some of higher birth.
A capable administrator, brilliant tactician and adept politician, Alexius is also something of a reformer, especially in areas of technology and the rights of peasants, aliens and psychics.
He has angered many within his own house for not giving them all the plum jobs in the new administration, a move that has damaged his powerbase in some areas but strengthened it in others.
Duchess Solandra Decados
Nominally second on command of her House but since Prince Hyram is an extremely ill man, she has taken on the reins of power. She has recently moved to the throne world to take part in the Royal Court.
Solandra rarely looks the same twice, but is always beautiful. She is a pleasant and engaging conversationalist but with a subtle vulpine air.
Sister Theafina Al-Malik
A member of the Brothers Battle, Theafina was an ally and some say lover of the Emperor Alexius when he was making his bid for power. It is said that the match was considered inadvisable and the two of them were forced apart.
She is a native of Stigmata, which explains her somewhat brusque and direct mode of speach. She is strikingly good looking and has a cybernetic right arm (she lost the original to a symbiote).

Tarhana Annissa Ibn Hamid Al-Malik
Youngest child of a moderately wealthy Al-Malik family. Rebelling against the over-bearing authority of her elder brother, she has forsaken the family business and the prospect of arranged marriage in favour of a life of adventure as a Questing Knight.
Young, beautiful and occasionally naοve. She is also devoted to her pet raccoon 'Rakim'.
Sir Alectrona Xanthippe
Childhood friend of Annissa and a former Xanthippe mercenary medical officer. Tired of war and the army life, she has resolved to throw in her lot with Annissa and take to the Jumproads in search of adventure.
Musa Farooq
Annissa's bodyguard and an officer in the Muster. Musa keeps her reasons for accompanying her charge to herself but seems to relish the new experiences that travel beyond Aylon brings.
Aquila
An Ertyri formerly in the employ of Annissa's family enterprise. A rare alien convert to the Churc, he served as a translator and accountant to her ladyship in return for protection and lodging. The chance to help fellow aliens seems to be at least part of the reason he has joined the Questing Knights.
Brother Balthazar
A young Brother Battle, Balthazar is custodian of a rare set of ancient 'Adept Robes' (if for no other reason than he is the only living member of his monastery to fit them). A giant of a man with little time for airs and graces, he has a gruff and earthy approach to his faith. Initially setting out from DeMoley to become a knight errant, he got as far as Aylon before running out of money and hooking up with the others. Becoming a Questing Knight gives him the chance to bring the light of faith to the ungodly and to smite evil, which he is rather good at.
Antonio Demosta (former Masseri noble)
Antonio gave up his noble name to join the Charioteer Guild during the Emperor wars. He served in various fleets as a gunner and was sufficiently talented to be fitted with interface/neural cyberware to allow him to 'jack-in' to fire-control systems.
Sadly, his Guild career was cut short when he broke Guild rules and killed a Decados noble when Antonio's ship was boarded by the Baron. He has recently joined the Osprey as (with Dan's own murky past) it is the only ship that would offer him a job.
Cynical, worldly and handsome in a certain light, he hopes to make his fortune.

'Tanalu' Ships purser and doctor
A Hironem, apparently a Sibanzi priest.
'Deke Volan' Ships' engineer.

Dame Alicia Silvers of House Hawkwood
Dame Alicia (Call me 'Alicia' please) is of slightly above average height and has the classic dark looks of the Gwynneth branch of the Hawkwood bloodline. She wears her dark curls in a complex plait to keep it out of the way and tends to dress in a fairly tomboyish style (Fencing shirt and trousers actually made of synthsilk).
Very enthusiastic, curious and with a strong sense of justice. She seems to take her noblesse oblige very seriously.
Looks-wise, she is in the 'cute' category but has the potential to grow into a striking woman.
Handle for visualisation : Imogen Stubbs/Helena Bonham-Carter, only taller.
The Crew of 'Firedrake' (and noteworthy citizens of Valheim)
Thane Gudrun 'Star Chaser' Captain of the Firedrake
As tall as any man in her crew, Gudrun is athletically built and striking in appearance. Very much the image of an archetypal female Vuldrok, she is the daughter of the innkeeper but rose to Thanedom after leading a warband to repel a rival warlord who had slain the previous thane of Valheim and his sons in battle.
Her warband went on to take part in raids into Kurgan space, ending up with their capture of the 'Firedrake' a couple of years ago. Gudrun has turned Valheim from a small market town with a derelict observatory into a stable and secure base of operations, using the old mines as a concealed hangar space for her ship.
Gudrun has a rich lust for life and a sharp mind. The shamans have said that she has much luck in her and seems adept at lateral thinking. She has a good sense of humour and is well loved by her people.
Kolfinna - Navigator
A quiet woman in her thirties, lithe and slight of build. Her quiet and introspective nature suits her affinity for computers and electronics. Not a trusting soul, she is very suspicious of people and things she does not know.
Sigurd Engineer
Tall, strong and affable. Sigurd is a determined and innovative person who works in the village as a mechanic and toymaker. He also assists Gudrun in trade matters, being something of an entrapaneur himself.
Gris Port grapple gunner
If it were not for his role on the ship, Gris would be a ne're do-well, his dreamy vague attitude to life, unconcerned with practicality, coupled with his gambling and singing skills do not suit him to an entirely honest life. He is however a good man, loyal to his crew. He has an eye for a nice chap but will flirt with either gender.
Jacasta Starboard grapple gunner
Short, quite pretty and fairly slim. Daughter of the shaman, she is an able healer. When not on a raid, she serves in the healers house. She has a friendly and helpful personality, quite empathic and doesn't really like the prospect of hurting people.
Daljak of Khotan First Starboard blaster gunner
Taken in a raid from Khotan some years past, he has earned his freedom (taking part in the revolt that brought Gudrun to power) and works as a mining advisor to the village. He's a cheeky and humourous individual with a wicked sense of fun. A psychic as all his people are. He has full Baa'mon scarring but dresses in Vuldrok fashion.
Hanna Second Starboard blaster gunner
Touching forty but not appearing to be speeding, she is a powerfully built woman with a mass of dark curls shot with silver. When home, she spends much of her time roaming the woods hunting game for the village. A fierce warrior, she thrives on battle and success.
Kjartan First Port blaster gunner
A large, striking lad in his late teens. Second son of the blacksmith, he is something of a good natured menace to the maidens of the village. He has some facility with picking locks and persuading people to open doors for him with a ready smile. He also helps out at the stables, being good with horses.
Bjarni Second Port blaster gunner
A grey bearded man in his fifties, still vigourous. A calm and considered individual with a great mind for business. At home he manages several of the trading operations in the village.
Galti Silver tongue Pilot
Son of the stable owner, heavy set and more solid than handsome. He has a strong sense of justice and despite his animated and friendly nature is very serious about the law. His ability to debate issues has earned him his nickname, many come to him for advice and he is tipped as a potential lawgiver one day, should he give up piloting.
Gunnhild Turret gunner
Stocky and strong, Gunnhild is a quiet individual who works on her family farm when at home although in recent years she has begun assisting the shaman in his duties, since she had a vision from the spirits. She does not like change and is cautious around strangers.
Stallan Marine
Easy going lad in his late teens. Tall, blonde and athletic. Son of a farmer.
Ulfgar Marine
Like his cousin Stallan, another farmer's son who has turned to raiding. Friendly, quite outgoing and a bit of a gun-nut on the quiet.
Thorfinna Marine
Youngest of the crew, a chatty and athletic teenager with a real talent for axe work. (Think 'Buffy')
Thora Marine
Fairly short and a little plump but strong.
Quiet by nature but willing to stand up for her principles. Very loyal to her friends and crew.
