The Constitution of the Bagot Goat Breed Society
Prepared for the AGM in September 1989
The name of the group shall be THE BAGOT GOAT STUDY GROUP now changed to BAGOT GOAT BREED SOCIETY.
The aim of the group is to promote and encourage the conservation of the Bagot Goat.
The objectives of the Group/Society:-
a) To provide members with the facility of regular contact so that issues concerned with the breed can be aired.
b) To provide an up to date list of males available for stud
c) To provide an up to date list of goats available for sale, wanted, loan or exchange by its members.
d) To further the knowledge of the breed, its history and future development.
e) To carry out studies of the breed and other associated subjects.
f) To provide a means of conveying the opinion of the group to others through approved communication channels.
g) To maintain funds for the purposes of meeting the above objectives.
h) To maintain a Herd Book.Herd book
i) To maintain a computer program to enable registration of all goats which conform to the breed Standard and rules.
The Membership
Membership is open to anyone who is interested in, or prepared to further the aims and objectives of the Group/Society.
Membership is gained by paying the annual subscription to be fixed at the AGM.
Membership may be refused or cancelled at any time, if the aims and objectives of the Group/Society are not being upheld or if the member is working contrary to the interest of the Group/Society as determined by the committee. Once dismissed there is no right of appeal as the committee judgement is final.
Annual General Meeting
This is to be held in the Autumn of each year at a suitable venue. All paid up members have voting rights. The chairman/Woman to have a casting vote. The Hon President and Committee to be elected/re-elected annually. The Committee to be voted in at the AGM and consist of:-

Treasurer
Newsletter Editor
Data Registrar
And others as required
The vice chair/person to be elected by the committee.
The committee to have the power to co-opt.
The constitution as set out can only be changed or amended at an AGM a two thirds majority needed to do this. At least three weeks notice must be given in the Newsletter notifying members of the AGM date and venue.

DISBANDMENT
(1) Any funds remaining at the disbandment of the group will be donated to a charity to be specified at that time.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS
(1) A three year rotation to be decided by the committee members. Key posts only one to change each year.
Amendments passed at the 1996 AGM
NAME CHANGE
(1) The group to be renamed from THE BAGOT GOAT BREEDERS STUDY GROUP to THE BAGOT GOAT BREED SOCIETY. to take immediate effect.
(2) The Group to be in a position to register all Bagot goats from both members and non members by January 1998.
Amendments passed at the 1997 AGM
The following clause was added to the main constitution to comply with affiliation requests from the British Goat Society
THE BAGOT SOCIETY WILL WORK TO ALL THE AIMS OF THE BRITISH GOAT SOCIETY WERE THESE CAN BE APPLIED TO THE BAGOT BREED.
Amendment passed at the AGM 2000
No back registrations will be accepted after January 1st 2001 except those herds/goats, that are already in negotiations with the Bagot Society at that date. These will be deemed as exceptions to this rule.
Amendment passed at the AGM 2002
Registrations will only be accepted from members of the Bagot Goat Breed society from January 1st 2003.
