This may look a little strange but this is one simple way of finding the melody to a song. Jeff Newman told me this is the way Buddy Emmons finds the melody. The fret position is the 4 strings which the actually note on the 4^th string here is shown on the tenth string. There is a pattern to this. The two note Melody scales are in fact 5 frets up for strings 5 and 8 and [see C SCLAES or scale checker} 5 frets back for the two note melody on strings 3 and 5.

I have not included the A and F which are two frets back on 5 and 8 string or string 3 and 5 due to the page getting too long. If there was an easier way to show this idea I would have put all the positions on one piece of tab but then it would get too cluttered.
