Fairford edged home in the last over by
the slender margin of two wickets in a dramatic finish to win a match
they looked to have lost, their batting in depth however proving decisive. In reply town also took off at apace, Townsend in fine form racing to 28 before holing out, this was to be the highest individual innings as towns top and middle order batted as if transfixed against an innocuous bowling attack. Although Gray dismissal was unfortunate in that he played on, towns early batters failed to impose themselves as G Clarke having compiled a patient 17, Newport, Greener and Bullock all will be disappointed to have perished and at 70-6 town where in deep trouble. Captain Leadbeater and Clarke at first steadied and rebuilt the innings Leadbeater working the bowling finding gaps at will, and Clarke more direct with one huge six and some strong hitting the pair added an invaluable 49. Town again looked out when both fell with 30 still required off only four overs which importantly included two extra overs. Moreing and Messer made light of the task, both cleanly striking the ball around and out of the ground to secure a win the town rarely looked like achieving earlier in their innings. Towns 19 point win maintaining the pressure on Apperley who they meet in two weeks time. |
