Fairford crashed to their fifth defeat in a row against a depleted Stone team who showed great character in claiming an 8 wicket victory. For the third week running Fairford were asked to bat first on a wet wicket and lost both openers with the score only just reaching double figures. Williams and Newport rebuilt the innings before a poor call caused the latters run out which proceeded a mini collapse which left the home side at 41 for 5. The only partnership of note came between Greener and Bullock with both showing much needed discipline on a difficult pitch. The pair had added 67 in 14 overs and with a score of 150 looking a possibility with 9 overs remaining both fell in controversial circumstances within the space of an over. The lower order batsmen were then removed by the pacey Sherman who had caused problems throughout and finished with a well earned five wicket haul.

Fairford got off to the ideal start with Clarke taking an early wicket but once again that was to be the only early breakthrough as Stone steadily built their innings. The introduction of Greener brought about a second wicket and despite some tight bowling in the middle of the innings there were to be no further wickets as the experienced Turl and youngster Palmer took their side to victory with 11 overs to spare. Stone undoubtedly made the most of their resources while Fairford who were low on confidence were left to rue another undisciplined performance.

With expectations high at the start of August a return of just 27 points from the last five games was disappointing to say the least but despite their horrendous finish to the season Fairford still finished in fourth place in a very competitive division, with the second team finishing runners-up in their league and success in the evening competitions 2004 has been a very satisfying year for the club.
