Saturday
3rd May 2003 - Jewson League Division 1
Long Melford 1,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 2 (1-2)
Team: Ross Charters,
Lee Parry (53 Capon),Tom Childs, Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker, Dean Sadler (74
Cooper), Mick Felgate,
Paul Berry,
Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti (81 Pugh), Ryan Hunn
The Seasiders completed their fixtures for the season with a win at Stoneylands
this afternoon, thanks to first half goals from Etti and Berry either side of
Dack's reply for the home side. The encouraging run continued with six under 18
players involved in the game providing optimism for a change in Club fortunes
next season.
The inclusion of Lee Parry at right back was the only change from last week's
winning side at Warboys with Shaun Pugh making his first team debut from the
bench in the
second half.
Both sides found difficulty in clearing their lines from early corners and
Felixstowe were fortunate to hear the whistle for a foul on Charters after
Devereux's free kick was bundled over the line in the second minute. Long
Melford threatened through Brind and Judge but it was the visitors who took the
lead in the 14th minute with Etti scoring his 21st goal of the season. A long
pass from Andrews found Fuller in space down the right to square the ball to
Ismail Etti who deceived Pratt in the home goal to
slide the ball home from close range.
Etti nearly
doubled his tally three minutes later with Dack making an excellent tackle to
deny a shot on goal. From the resulting corner the home sprang from defence into
attack to claim the equaliser. Devereux found Judd with a telling pass and his
shot looked to be heading into the net following Charter's diving save,
Mark Dack following up made sure bundling the ball over the line from close range.
Brind looked dangerous for the home side with Parry heading to safety a deep
cross from the number 7 and from the resulting corner Brind's powerful drive was
tipped over the bar by Charters.
Long Melton survived two strong penalty appeals, Hunn saw a goal disallowed for
pushing
and
Andrews struck a post as the Seasiders finished the half strongly, but their was
an element of good fortune that enabled the visitors to claim the lead just
before the break.
The busy Etti was looking to produce an opening on the edge of the area when the
ball struck a defender and the Referee pointed to the spot.
Paul Berry coolly stepped up to place the ball to
the left of the diving Darren Pratt.
Following a first half of incident which saw a number of names in the note book,
the game looked to be winding down to the end of the season until a late flurry
of activity promised more goals.
Felgate went close to connecting with Berry's telling
cross and Berry saw his goalbound header saved acrobatically by Pratt in injury
time. Pratt ventured forward for a corner which was quickly cleared and was
pleased to see Felgate's shot at the empty goal from half-way take a nasty
bounce and clear the far post as he sprinted back.
The last chance fell to Brind who shot narrowly wide with just seconds
remaining.
A good performance from the young Seasiders that provided much to look forward
to next season.

Warboys Town 0,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1 (0-0)
Team: Ross Charters,
Andy Crump, Tom Childs, Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker, Dean Sadler (65 Evans), Mick Felgate
(85 Cooper),
Paul Berry (90 Anderson),
Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, Ryan Hunn
Oh for a video replay to right the injustice that saw Ross Charters dismissed
after 40 minutes at Warboys this afternoon. With the Felixstowe keeper
back-peddling toward his area with the ball at his feet an Assistant Referee
anticipated that he would touch the ball with his hands before reaching the
safety of his area, he didn't but the flag went up none the less.
The error was
compounded with the red card shown despite a goal scoring opportunity not having
been prevented. Unfortunately the result seemed secondary after this gross
miss-carriage of justice.
As for the game - Nutter could have given Warboys the lead after just 20 seconds
but shot straight at Charters, for what proved to be the home sides best
opportunity of the game. Following Charter's dismissal Andy Crump volunteered to
take the gloves with the rest of the team deciding attack was the best form of
defence.
Fuller went close twice after the break before striking a post on 57 minutes as
the pressure built on the home goal. Etti also went close before Felgate broke
the deadlock on 71 minutes. The busy Etti sped down the wing with his deep cross
played on by Evans to Michael Felgate who struck
the ball past the right hand of the diving Mackney from ten yards for his first
goal of the season.
A big thank you to Warboys Town for their excellent hospitality and to the
players for a sportingly contested game.

Leiston 2,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 0 (1-0)
Team: Ross Charters,
Andy Crump, Tom Childs, Jimmy Andrews (79 Cooper), Nick Barker, Dean Sadler, Mick Felgate,
Paul Berry (76 Parry),
Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, David Thurkettle (76 Hunn)
A yard faster throughout and with an eagerness for possession Leiston deservedly
gained all three points this evening with a goal in each half and a double save
from Fenn following Barker's second half Penalty.
Gavin Jennings volleyed home from 12 yards after Felixstowe failed to
clear following a corner on the stroke of half time to give the home side the
interval lead. Leiston had dominated throughout the half with Taylor forcing an
early save from Charters and Sparkes heading from close range onto a post. Etti
was a willing runner for Felixstowe in attack but received little support as the
eagerness of recent games deserted the team.
Seven minutes after the break a trip by Goddard on Etti presented the Seasiders
with a chance to level the score, Barker's penalty kick was well saved by Fenn
who gathered himself to save again as Fuller pounced on the loose ball to
complete an excellent double save.
Felixstowe were left to rue the miss as three minutes later
Carl Chenery doubled the lead with a stunning 18
yard strike following a neatly taken free kick. All three substitutes were
introduced for the visitors but Fenn was not troubled and it was Leiston through
Shemming and Fryer that always looked likely to increase the lead.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1, Needham Market 1 (1-0)
Team: Ross Charters,
Andy Crump,Tom Childs, Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker, Dean Sadler, Mick Felgate, Robbie Evans,
Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, David Thurkettle
The Seasiders welcomed Needham Market to Dellwood Avenue for the last
home fixture of the season on a cold and windy afternoon.
Five year old Rob
Smith, from the under 6 team Squad, was
mascot for the day and looked to have enjoyed his day out with the 'big boys'.
On a hard pitch both sides keenly contested the game with the Seasiders creating
the greater scoring opportunities and held an interval lead through Etti. But
honours finished even after Wake headed home the equalisers three minutes after
the break.
Wake shot from distance in the first minute and Davey also went close as Needham
started brightly but both sides took time to settle on the hard pitch and
neither goalkeeper was troubled in the early exchanges. Gradually the home side
increased their control on the game with Thurkettle shooting wide and Fuller
fired over following a good run and cross from Crump.

The opening goal came on 21 minutes as Felixstowe turned defence into attack. A
flowing move culminated in Childs making ground down the left and his deep cross
was well measured for the advancing Ismail Etti to
fire the ball under the advancing Holland from 12 yards. Felgate went close to
doubling the lead following Etti's cross and Etti headed over from Sadlers cross
as the Seasiders finished the half strongly.
Needham were quickly in search of a replay after the break and were rewarded
three minutes after the re-start. Moore won possession in midfield and outpaced
the home defence down the right, his deep cross found Mark
Wake in space to head home the equaliser.
Man of the Match
Felgate saw his shot blocked on the hour for a corner following good work from
Crump as the Seasiders continued to create openings without the telling finish.
The impressive Folkhard cleared Etti's goal bound shot off Needham's line with
the keeper stranded and Pooley was on hand to clear Felgate's header as pressure
mounted on the visitors goal.
Needham always looked dangerous on the break with Sandilands and Wake willing
runners for any balls played forward and Charters was quickly off his line to
gather on a number of occasions.
With time running down Fuller blasted over when well placed and the fast
improving Seasiders had to settle for a point from an entertaining, competitive
but fairly played game.

King's Lynn Res. 2,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1 (2-1)
Team: Ross Charters,
Lee Parry (76 Sharpe), Tom Childs, Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker, Robbie Evans,
Andy Crump, Mick Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, David Thurkettle
The Linnet's were presented with the Jewson Team of month award for March before
the kick off and confirmed their position at the top of the table with a 2-1
home win over the Seasiders. Felixstowe will have won many friends for their
positive play and contribution to an entertaining game which saw both keepers
kept busy throughout. Although the home side enjoyed the greater possession the
clearer chances were created by the visitors with the result in doubt until the
final whistle.
Paul Adams made three
changes to Wednesday's line up with Childs and Parry both giving confident
performances in the full back positions and Felgate returning for the absent
Sadler in midfield. The home side started brightly with Charters soon in action
to beat the lively Harris to the ball and to catch an early cross from Blake.
The speed of Etti troubled the Lynn defence all afternoon and Crump's shot from
Etti's pass was cleared for the first corner of the game.
Mayes delayed his clearance with his kick cannoning off the advancing Fuller and
the Linnet's keeper was pleased to see the ball pass wide of the goal. Charters
saved well to deny Hyde's volley and Childs cleared off the line as pressure
increased on the Felixstowe goal. Voted Elvin Kings 'Player of the Week'
Charters was at his best again to deny Palmer, but it was not all one way
traffic as Buhleman came to the aid of his keeper to block Evan's shot after
good interplay between Etti and Fuller.
The opening goal came on 18 minutes from the dangerous
Robbie Harris as he fired home
from 12 yards following a deep cross from Harvey. Seven minutes late it was all
square as Crump turned sharply on the right wing to gain half a yard and put in
a deep cross. Thurkettle's volley was well by Mayes but his parry ran to
Ismail Etti who placed his shot over the keeper.
Etti rattled a Lynn post on 36 minutes after an excellent run but it was the
home side that held the half time advantage with a goal from
Pablo Ortega as he volleyed home following a free
kick.
The game continued at a fast pace after the break with Mayes denying Fuller's
header with a diving save to his left at the expense of a corner and Charter's
grateful to see Hyde's header cannon off the bar. Both sides were applauded from
the ground at the end of the game by the crowd of 230.

Whitton United 2,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 2 (1-0)
Team: Ross Charters,
Andy Crump, Ryan Hunn, Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker, Dean Sadler (70 Sharpe), Robbie
Evans, Paul
Berry, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, David Thurkettle (70 Childs)
Honours were even this evening at the end of pulsating local derby with both
teams going close to claiming all three points before the final whistle. The
determination and confidence shown by the Seasiders was in marked contrast to
the three previous League and Cup defeats against the Greens earlier in
the season. This was testimony to the improved performances that have resulted
in five consecutive away games without defeat and a result that puts a dent in
Whitton's promotion ambitions.
The Seasiders showed two changes from Saturday with Thurkettle and Crump
returning for the absent Sadler and Capon.
The game started at
a fast pace, which was sustained throughout, with Swann seeing an early shot go
into the side netting. A good spell for the visitors on the quarter hour
culminated in Fuller rising majestically to powerfully head Berry's cross onto
the Whitton cross bar with Holden stranded. Moments later Etti came close to
finishing from Evan's cross with the ball scrambled away to safety.
Charters produced an excellent save to palm Francis's free kick over the bar at
the expense of a corner mid-way through the half. With half time approaching
Felixstowe came close to breaking the deadlock with Whitton clearing their lines
following a goal mouth scramble. Thurkettle free kick was well controlled
Fuller and he laid the ball off for Berry who's shot canned off two defenders
before Holden recovered to scoop the ball of the line and to safety.
With everyone heading for a cup of tea Whitton earned a late corner which Layton
whipped in from the left for Steve Gayfer to rise
unopposed and head home the opening goal.
Robbie Fuller restored parity four minutes after
the interval when he ceased on a defensive mistake to run on to strike the ball
home low from the edge of the box. Moments later Swann ran through the
Felixstowe defence but shot wide as the game continued to provide opportunities
at both ends. On 57 minutes the Seasiders ere ahead when Holden failed to
collect a deep cross under pressure from Fuller, the ball ran lose to
Paul Berry who hammered the ball home from 16
yards.
Andrews cleared for a
corner as Whitton stepped up the pressure, with a member of the Whitton team
bench sent from the playing area, as they searched for reply. A double
substitution by Felixstowe saw Childs and Sharpe join the action and they
combined almost immediately with Sharpe just heading wide from Childs corner.
With ten minutes remaining a late tackle provided Whitton with a central
free kick twenty yards out. Mark Francis placed the
free kick wide of the five man wall and Charters outstretched left hand for the
equaliser.
In a frantic end to the game both sides went close with Cunningham's tackle
denying Etti and Hunn likewise to prevent the dangerous Hurd from releasing his
shot.
Full credit to both sides for an excellent game of football.

Swaffham Town 2,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 2 (0-1)
Team: Ross Charters,
Bradley Capon (56 Childs), Ryan Hunn, Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker, Dean Sadler, Paul
Berry, Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, Robbie Evans (87 Cooper)
A stunning save from Ross Charters with 15 minutes remaining to deny Leggett
secured a well earned point for the Seasiders at Shoemaker Lane this afternoon
with Izzy scoring twice.
With the
advantage of the slope and wind in the first half Felixstowe enjoyed early
pressure and opened the scoring on 14 minutes. A long kick from Charters was
headed on by Fuller for Ismail Etti to outpace the
home defence and rifle home from the right hand side of the penalty area. A
similar combination minutes later found Berry in space and Higgs in the home
goal produced a good save at the expense of a corner as the Seasiders threatened
to increase their lead. Swaffham pressed for a reply with Bradley Capon, making
his debut start for the first team, producing a number of good tackles at right
back. Moore threatened for Swaffham, heading over from a Stannard cross and
striking a post just after the half hour. Sadler and Felgate were busy in
midfield with the tempo of the game high and before the interval Sadler struck
the Swaffham crossbar from all of 30 yards with Higgs beaten.
After the break the advantage swung to the home side and Paul Mcelzek headed
home the
equaliser
on 53 minutes from Back's cross. Minutes later Andrews looked to have regained
the lead for the visitors but his shot was blocked by a defender on the goal and
the ball rebounded of Fuller, who was quickly following up, to flash harmlessly
passed a post.
The home side took the lead on 63 minutes from the penalty spot. Following
pressure on the Felixstowe goal Andrews was adjudged to have intentionally
handled the ball and Kevin Leggett struck a
positive spot kick passed the outstretched Charters.
Barker marshalled his troops well in defence to deny the pressure from Swaffham
and Evans and Berry made a number of relieving runs from defence to threaten an
equaliser.
The teams were
level on 68 minutes following a well struck corner from Barker that was rifled
home from 6 yards by Ismail Etti.
In the closing stages Ross Charters produced the save of the game when at full
stretch he denied Leggett a certain goal. Swaffham constantly posed a threat in
the air and Leggett rose above everyone to place his header powerfully on target
to be thwarted by Charters.
With honours even Felixstowe extended their unbeaten run away from home to four
games.

Somersham Town 0,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1 (0-1)
Team: Ross Charters,
Andy Crump, Ryan Hunn, Dean Sadler, Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker, Robbie Evans
(81 Childs), Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti,, Paul Berry
The only goal of the match from Robbie Evans would have graced any game to
reward the Seasiders for a first half of fluent passing and neat attacking
football. The second half saw Somersham take control of the game with Charters
making a number of fine saves as Felixstowe fought a rear guard action to record
their second away win of the season.
With Paul Adams in New York, Chris Sawyer took charge and made two changes with Crump and
Evans in the starting line up with Tom Childs, a mid-week transfer from Whitton,
on the bench.
The Seasiders were close to the perfect start in the first minute as Berry
outpaced the home defence to cross dangerously from the left. The ball reached Felgate
who's shot defeated the keeper but was cleared off the line by Anderson.
Charters saved from Norman and Green flashed the ball across the goal following
a well worked free kick on the edge of the box as the game opened up. Felgate
impressed for Felixstowe in midfield and Cooke was at the centre of much of the
play for Somersham with Charters was at his best to tip a dipping free kick from
Cooke over the bar on the half hour.
The only goal of the game came on 32 minutes when the ball ran to
Robbie Evans following a free kick. Evans volleyed
the ball from the angle of the area past the outstretched Gibbs into the far
corner of the net for one of the best goals the young player will have ever
scored.
Gibbs saved from Sadler as the Seasiders finished the half strongly.
Fuller had the ball in the net shortly after the restart but the goal was ruled
out by an off side- flag. Following that early scare Gibbs, in the Somersham
goal, saw little of the
ball as Felixstowe were restricted to only the occasional break from Etti and Fuller.
Norman and Anderson saw shots go wide and Atley hit the post as Somersham tested
the visiting defence. Charters saved at point blank range from Wilkinson and Cooke as the Seasiders held on to claim all three points.
An
excellent evenings entertainment at the club House on Saturday with the Git Band
appearing Live at Dellwood Avenue.
The six piece band played many of their own compositions in addition to popular
songs from over six decades.
A mixture of rock, jazz and blues was enjoyed by all those attending on the
night with a return visit from the band eagerly awaited.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 0, Halstead Town 1 (0-0)
Team: Ross Charters, Jack
Entwistle (Capon 85), Ryan Hunn, Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker,
Dean Sadler, Paul Berry, Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, Mark Cooper (Evans 66)
Halstead Town maintained their push for promotion with a second half goal from
Simon Head to claim all three points at Dellwood Avenue this afternoon, and
although on the balance of play the Essex side deserved the win the Seasiders
always threatened to seize some reward from the game.
Felixstowe made two changes to
the winning line up at Cambridge City last Saturday with Jack Entwistle and Mark
Cooper making their debuts in the starting eleven, with fellow under 18 players
Bradley Capon and Shaun Pugh on the bench.
Halstead forced two early corners but
the Felixstowe side showed confidence on the ball and increased resilience in
defence following two good away results. Welham entered the game as an early
substitute for the visitors and impressed throughout forcing the only first half
save from Charters, conceding a corner as he dived to his left.
Hearn and Chatters both went close for Halstead with the combination of Barker
and Andrews in central central defence for the Seasiders restricting
opportunities for the second placed side in the division.
Cooper showed well in attack and Berry went close to opening the scoring after
the ball ran lose in the Halstead area as half time approached.
Puntney produced an excellent save minutes after the restart to deny
Sadler as he finished a flowing move from the Seasiders with a dipping shot from
the edge of the area.
The home side were enjoying their best spell of the game when they went behind
in the 65th minute. Hearn, having won possession on the half way line, played
the ball to Simon Head who fired the ball home from
16 yards. Felgate went close following Fullers persistence as the home side
searched for a reply. Berry and Sadler pressed the Halstead defence and Etti
forced a good save from Puntney close to the final whistle but the final touch
eluded the Felixstowe forwards and Hastead continued their march to the Premier
Division.
Saturday 15th March 2003
- Jewson League Division 1
Cambridge City Reserves 0,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1 (0-1)
Team: Ross Charters, Andy
Crump, Ryan Hunn, Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker,
Dean Sadler, Paul Berry, Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti (Cooper 81), David Thurkettle (Evans 30)
Robbie Fuller scored the only goal of the game seconds before the half time
whistle to record the Seasider's first away win of the season in an evenly
contested game with few clear cut chances.
On a sunny afternoon and provided with excellent hospitality, facilities and
playing surface there would never be a better time for Felixstowe to win on
foreign
soil.
Paul Adams was forced to make only one change from the side that drew at League
leaders Hadleigh on Tuesday evening with Ryan Hunn replacing Lee Bloom.
The young City side attacked from the kick off forcing a first minute corner
with Hunn, who had an excellent game in defence, clearing the danger from
Wilson. Thurkettle fired a free kick over the bar and Fuller went close with a
glancing header following good link up play by Barker and Etti as the Seasiders
enjoyed a good opening spell. The home side produced neat passing football and
their first scoring opportunity fell to Doyle on 17 minutes. Barker made an
excellent tackle to deny the advancing Green on the edge of the area and when
the ball fell to Doyle his powerful drive was saved by the diving Charters.
The game continued to flow with Felgate shooting wide for the Seasiders and
Green &
Abbott both
going close for the home side. The decisive move came as half time approached
with Felixstowe awarded a free kick for a foul on the busy Berry. Berry floated
in the free kick and when the ball fell to Robbie Fuller
close to the goal line he looped the ball over Calton in the home goal
and into the net.
Pell created an excellent opportunity to equalise after the break as he drifted
in behind the visiting defence to meet Abbott's pass but could only loop the
ball over the advancing charters and the Felixstowe goal.
There was no shortage of effort from the home side but their attacks became
increasingly desperate as the game progressed with the Seasider looking
dangerous on the counter attack.
Etti produced an excellent save from Calton following one break and Fuller was
narrowly wide as he was closed down by Calton.
Unfortunately there was along delay as Matt rice was stretchered off and taken
to Hospital hospital following what looked like a head injury, all at Felixstowe
hope he will recover quickly.
The Seasiders remained composed until the final whistle to deservedly collect
all three points and record the first away win of the season.

Hadleigh United 2,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 2 (1-1)
Team: Ross Charters, Andy
Crump, Lee Bloom, Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker,
Dean Sadler, Paul Berry, Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, David Thurkettle (Hunn 67)
An excellent all-round performance from the Seasiders as they gained a well
deserved point at league leaders Hadleigh United this evening. Both sides held
the lead at some point in an entertaining game which saw both keepers produce an
excellent save a-piece to keep honours even.
Paul Adams made two
changes from Saturday's starting eleven with Thurkettle replacing Hunn and Bloom
making his third appearance of the season in place of the injured Kyle.
Felixstowe started positively with Sadler and Felgate ensuring the Hadleigh
midfield had little time to settle on the ball. From the first corner of the
game on 10 minutes Thurkettle delivered perfectly for Fuller who was denied by
Donovan in the home goal.
Barker ensured the Felixstowe defence remained organised restricting the
pacey Hart and Cracknell to long range efforts.
The opening goal went to the home side on 42 minutes. Charters saved well to
deny Hart but the lines were not cleared and when the ball fell to
Cracknell, unmarked on the edge of the box, he made
no mistake firing the ball home.
In the second minute
of injury time it was all square to bring the Seasiders deservedly level at the
break. Thurkettle took a quick throw to Etti in space and a driven cross
into the area found Berry to side ball home for the
equaliser.
Felixstowe continued to press after the break playing flowing passing football
and Donovan had to be alert to block Fullers effort at the near post following
another good run and cross from Berry. the pressure told seven minutes into the
half when Etti's low drive across the area was turned home by
Crump.
The lead lasted just two minutes before Donovan
rose to powerfully head home Dennett's corner kick. The game continued to flow
from end to end but neither keeper was further tested with a share of the spoils
a deserving outcome from an entertaining game.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1, Haverhill Rovers 2 (0-1)
Team: Ross
Charters, Andy Crump, Ryan Hunn (68 Thurkettle), Jimmy Andrews, Chris Kyle, Nick Barker,
Paul Berry, Dean Sadler, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, Michael Felgate (81 Cooper)
Haverhill snatched all three points deep into injury time at the end of the game
having been under pressure for much of the second half. Rover's goalkeeper
Walton made a number of excellent saves to deny the Felixstowe forwards and in
the end the Seasiders were made to pay for missed chances when they conceded the
late break-away goal.
Good build up
play created Etti's first opportunity to score after only two minutes but he
chose to pass rather than shoot and the chance was lost. The first save of the
game came from Charters in the home goal as he dived to his left to block a
fierce drive from Jenkin. Felixstowe responded with Walton blocking Etti's shot
after being played in by Felgate.
The opening goal came on 22 minutes in controversial fashion. Pilcher
threaded a pass through the home defence to Thompson who, after placing his shot
wide, went over the diving Charters to be awarded a penalty.
Paul Jenkin made no mistake from the spot sending
the keeper the wrong way.
Walton saved from Berry when through one-on-one with the Haverhill keeper and
Green blasted his shot wide when well placed for the Visitors, but the game
lacked any real shape at this stage.
The Seasiders emerged for the second half showing greater purpose with Berry
heading wide and
Crump seeing his shot blocked by Walton following good build up play from Etti
and Fuller. A flowing six man move ended with Berry shooting over as pressure
mounted on the Haverhill goal. The breakthrough came on 74 minutes following the
introduction of Thurkettle. His well struck free kick was well saved by Walton
but the resulting corner was not cleared and an excellent delivery from Felgate
was headed home by Ismail Etti, past the
outstretched dive of Walton.
Thurkettle looked to have given the home side the lead moments later but in
front of an open goal screwed his shot wide of the post. Walton saved a powerful
strike from Fuller as the home side went in search of the winner with Haverhill
now restricted to isolated breaks from Green and Jenkin. With Referee Butcher
looking at his watch Haverhill broke and when the ball ran lose to
Daniel Pilcher he made no mistake from eight yards
to claim all three points.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 4, Thetford Town 1 (1-0)
Team: Ross
Charters, Andy Crump, Chris Kyle, Jimmy Andrews, Andy Clarke, Nick Barker (70
Parry), Dean Sadler, Michael Felgate (78 Morton), Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, Paul Berry
Two goals in two second half minutes saw the
Seasiders eventually through to a comfortable victory as Thetford tenaciously
refused to admit defeat after going behind as early as the tenth minute and
always looking capable of gaining a result until the late double strike.
Etti struck first for
the Seasiders after ten minutes as the home side made the early running. Snowden
was at his best in the Thetford goal to save at full stretch Berry's strike from
18 yards at the expense of a corner. The keeper failed to hold Barker's in
swinging corner and Etti was first to the loose
ball to sweep it home.
Snowden saved well from Kyle as Felixstowe continued to dominate but failed to
press home the advantage giving Thetford confidence to push forward through
Catchpole and Curtis in search of an equaliser. Swift went close for the
visitors when his curling shot across the goal defeated Charters and also the
far post on the half hour. Crump completed a good run with a crisp shot just
before the break but found Snowden well positioned at his near post to make
the save.
After the interval Thetford pressed for a quick reply with Catchpole looking
sharp on the break and from one long clearance out of defence he rounded
Charters in the home goal only to be denied by Kyle as he cleared for a corner.
The threat looked to have passed in the 63rd minute as Felixstowe doubled their
lead through Berry. Etti made a dazzling run down the left wing and his cross
found Berry on the edge of the area. The young
forward took his time to defeat two defenders and create space to volley the
ball home.
Any thoughts that
the home supporters could now breath easily were soon dashed as a deep free kick
from Brookes was powerfully headed home by Richards
only two minutes later.
The Seasiders produced their most decisive spell of the game as they opened up
the visiting defence to score twice in two minutes. Sadler showed great
determination to reach the ball on the goal line and cross for
Etti to head home his second and the Seasiders
third on 72 minutes. Man of the Match Andy Crump
scored the fourth, again with a header, as he powerfully met Berry's free kick
two minutes later to secure Felixstowe's third win from four home games in 2003.

Godmanchester Rovers 3, Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 0 (1-0)
Team: Ross
Charters, Karl Knights (Parry 14), Chris Kyle, Nick Barker, Andy Crump, Dean Sadler, Paul
Berry (Hunn 76), Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, David Thurkettle (Cooper 76)
Following two wins from three games played since the turn of the year the
Seasiders travelled for their first ever game at Bearscroft Lane in hope of
recording their first away victory of the season. The over night frost had
thawed giving way to a heavy pitch on which both sides found difficulty keeping
their feet. It was the home side that coped best scoring three goals as
Felixstowe toiled but created few scoring opportunities.
The Seasiders started brightly with Kyle shooting
from distance in the second minute but failed to test Bigger in the home goal. A
Thurkettle free kick in the 7th minute was turned away for a corner by the home
skipper Hurst. A short corner move saw Berry create space but Bigger was
well positioned to cope with his shot. Moments later Hurst again cleared from a
Thurkettle free kick at the expense of a corner as the visitors made the early
running. As the pitch cut up Godmanchester increased their share of possession
and Crump reacted quickly to clear the danger for a corner.
Thompson headed straight at
Charters from a free header following Godmanchesters first corner on 12 minutes
and Morris shot over the bar following a Carnamati corner as the pressure
increased on the the Felixstowe goal.
Knights limped from the action after only 14 minutes to be replaced by Parry.
Death outstripped the Seasiders defence on 27 minutes to fire in a dangerous low
cross from the right. The unfortunate Parry, under pressure, could only turn the
ball into his own net to give the home side the lead. Kyle's deep cross from the
left found the head of Fuller with his goal bound effort saved by Bigger as
Felixstowe looked to reduce the deficit before the interval.
Charters saved well to deny Wetherman after the break when he met Thompson's
corner powerfully with his head as the home side continued to hold the
advantage. Etti fired over the bar when well placed after the tireless Felgate
had broken with purpose down the middle of the park.
Rovers doubled their lead on 57 minutes with Kemp
heading home Thompsons corner from six yards. From the restart Bigger saved from
Felgate at the expense of a corner as Felixstowe continued to battle in the
heavy conditions for a reply.
Carnamati confirmed the points on 75 minutes
collecting the ball on the halfway line and outpacing the Felixstowe defence
before defeating Charters for the home sides third goal.
On 76 minutes a double substitution saw Hunn and Cooper introduced with both
players performing with credit.
Felgate struck the post and Fuller the side netting as the Seasiders produced
their best openings late in the game. They looked to have earned a consolation
when Etti was tripped in the box but Barker saw his injury time penalty well
saved by Bigger in the home goal.

Both 1st Team and Reserve games cancelled
The wintry weather that struck East Anglia this week has resulted in the
postponement of all of the Jewson
League
fixtures today, including the Seasiders game at Somersham. This fixture has now
been re-scheduled for Saturday 29th March.

A decision on the Reserve Team ESBL Fixture at Dellwood Avenue against St. Johns was held over pending a 9am inspection, with hope of a thaw overnight. As the pictures show the decision was not a difficult one to make!

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 5, Downham Town 2
(2-2)
Team: Ross
Charters, Karl Knights (Kyle 72), Andy Clarke, Andy Crump, Jimmy Andrews, Nick
Barker (Hunn 59), Dean Sadler, Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, Robbie Evans (Berry 50)
The Seasiders were boosted by the return of Paul
Berry albeit on the substitutes bench following his return to the U.K. after a
prolonged stay in the USA, Berry made contact with manager Paul Adams from
Hawaii on Thursday to declaring himself available for selection,
Adams also included
youngster Ryan Hunn on the bench, following a spell at the Bury Academy, and
both players came on as second half substitutes to play an influential part in
the final outcome of the game.
It was a scrappy opening twenty minutes with both sides guilty of giving the
ball away cheaply and the spectators looked to be in for a dour afternoon in wet
conditions similar to the reverse game at Downham which ended in a goal-less
draw.
Ross Charters was the first to see any real action when he was at full stretch
to turn over Adam Bells looping header in the 14th minute before the
Seasiders slowly got a grip on the game to put the Downham defence under
increasing pressure but the home side were guilty of being caught off-side on
four occasions as they swept forward.
Robbie Evans produced the home sides first real strike on goal as Downham failed
to clear a loose ball, striking a rising 20 yard shot that Motterham did well to
turn over for a corner and it was from Nicky Barker's flag kick that
Ismail Etii powered a header past the Downham
‘keeper from 8 yds to owen the scoring. Barker hooked a shot wide of the goal
two minutes later before a hectic 8 minutes saw three goals and the lead change
hands.
Etti cleared a dangerous free kick from Hawes for a corner in the 37th
minute and Adam Bell was on hand at the far post to
drill the ball home and level the score.
Etti looked to have restored the lead 3 minutes later heading past Motterham as
Downham were all at sea but saw his effort ruled off-side and from the free kick
Downham broke down the left and Lewis’s cross found Adam
Bell unmarked at the far post to put the visitors into a 41st
min lead. The advantage was short lived as the Seasiders broke straight from the
restart with Barker finding Etti wide on the right and
Robbie Fuller met his cross to volley past Motterham and level the scores
for the second time.
The second half saw Seasiders Physio Phil Hazelwood take over the assistant
referee’s role as Kevin Eagles retired through injury and from the restart the
Seasiders looked far more positive in their approach play. Within 30 seconds
Motterham had produced a double save to deny Etti, pushing his first effort up
on to the bar and then smothering his second attempt
as the ball fell loose.
Berry replaced Evans in the 50th min & 9 minutes later Hunn came on
for Nicky Barker with Sadler moving into the centre of midfield and produce a
second half display that earned him the MOM award.
Downham were restricted to one serious second half effort that saw Nigel Bell
strike the foot of the Felixstowe & Walton post while the home side might well
have moved into double figures had they finished the chances they created.
Robbie Fuller volleyed wide from Hunn’s cross in the 63rd minute but
it was a brief respite as the visitors again denied Fuller at the expense of a
corner two minutes later. From the resultant corner Paul
Berry collected the ball at the far post and twisted and turned two
defenders before driving home a low shot to put the home in front for the second
time.
There was no quick reply from the visitors this time as the home side piled on
the pressure and Etti missed a glorious chance as
he slipped his marker but shot wide of an empty goal with Motterham stranded.
The big striker made amends in the 78th minute after Berry had put
Crump away on the right meeting his cross to beat Motterham comprehensively for
his second and his sides fourth goal.
Manager Paul Adams then spent a frustrating ten minutes watching chances come
and go before Robbie Fuller added the 5th
in the 89th min with a volley past Motterham from Andy Crumps
pinpoint cross.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 0, Whitton United 3
(0-1)
Team: Ross
Charters, Lee Parry, Chris Kyle, Andy Crump, Jimmy Andrews, Nick
Barker, Dean Sadler (Moss 75), Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, David Thurkettle (Evans 48)
Expectations were high, following the 6-0 defeat of March in the last home game,
that the corner had been turned but after a bright start the Seasiders slipped
into old habits with missed chances and slack defending at important times.
Neighbours Whitton ran out comfortable winners in the end as they dominated the
second half.
The home side
enjoyed early pressure but Charters was the first keeper forced to save as he
dived at the feet of Swann in the fifth minute as he sprinted onto a short back
pass. The pace of Hurd troubled the Felixstowe defence all afternoon and he
created time and space to shoot narrowly wide two minutes later. Brighty got
fingertips to a fierce Felgate shot on 17 minutes deflecting the shot just
enough to see it canon off a Whitton post. Moments later Etti blasted wide when
well placed as the home side built constructively through Thurkettle and Fuller.
Former Seasider Martin saw his long range shot fly over the bar as the game
continued to flow from end to end. Fuller's perseverance won him possession of
the ball in the Whitton area but he failed to finish with Brighty closing
quickly.
On 37 minutes Whitton took the lead from the head of Duane
Wright who beat Sadler and Charters to a deep cross from Hurd. Felixstowe
responded immediately and as Fuller fed Thurkettle the rock steady Francis
cleared the danger for the visitors from deep in his own area. With half time
approaching Charters saved well from Martin with Andrews first to react and
clear the danger as Swann closed in the lose ball.
Thurkettle limped off shortly after the interval and moments later Whitton
doubled their lead. A long ball from Martin was collected by
Rene Swann who's turn took him past the square home
back line giving him time to steer the ball over the advancing Charters.
Following a competitive first half the Seasiders looked to accept defeat after
the visitors second goal and apart from Felgate's shot from distance there was
little to trouble Brighty in the Whitton goal.
On the hour Steve Gayfer headed home the greens
third goal from Grimwoods cross with the Felixstowe defence looking all at sea.
A double save from Charters denied Martin and then Hurd close to the final
whistle as Whitton defeated the Seasiders for the third time this season.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 6 (six), March Town United 0
(3-0)
Team: Ross
Charters, Lee Parry (Moss 64), Chris Kyle, Andy Crump, Jimmy Andrews, Nick
Barker, Karl Knights (Cooper 81), Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail
Etti, David Thurkettle (Evans 73)
A hat-trick from man of the match Ismail Etti saw the Seasiders on their way to
an emphatic
victory
that recent performances have been threatening. The Hares contributed fully to
an entertaining game but failed to take the chances they created while the home
side for once took full advantage of the opportunities that came their
way.
The New Year could not have started better for Felixstowe with the first clean
sheet in 22 games and the record books being searched for the last 6-0 victory.
Although the game was played with snow falling the pitch was in excellent
condition for the visit of March Town United to Dellwood Avenue.
The visitors created the first opening of the game with McCullum heading wide
from
Richardson's
cross in the first minute. The home side then seized the initiative with corners
in the following two minutes by Thurkettle having to be cleared by Deen and then
Clipston as pressure on the March goal increased.
The Seasiders took the lead in the 7th minute when a Barker free kick was headed
into the danger area by Fuller for Ismail Etti to
head home from close range. On 15 minutes the lead was doubled with the
effervescent Etti lifting the ball over the ball
advancing Brooks to score his second. Deen's deep pass into the Felixstowe area
was cleared by Parry for a corner as the visitors searched for a quick reply.
Charters blocked McCullum's shot with his legs following good interplay between
Hutchcraft and Richardson as March enjoyed a good spell and Richardson's deep
free kick from wide on the left was headed over the Felixstowe bar by Bonney.
Etti continued to trouble the March defence with his pace and Brooks was quickly
off his line to deny Fuller after Etti and Barker had
linked well
to create an opening on 33 minutes. Felgate was tripped in the area on 39
minutes and Nicky Barker stepped up to fire home from
the spot for the Seasiders third.
March spurned two excellent opportunities to reply before the break with Wayte
firing over from Deen's cross and Hutchcraft failing to hit the target when well
placed following Wayte's cross.
Robbie Fuller put the result beyond doubt three
minutes after the interval showing great determination to win the battle for a
through ball with Brooks and Mason to steer the ball home. Bonney blasted wide
three minutes later having created space down the Felixstowe right as March
continued to build neatly through Deen and Richardson without a direct
shot on goal to trouble Charters. David Thurkettle
fired home the fifth from six yards following an excellent run and cross from
Etti just before the hour mark.
Ismail Etti completed his hat-trick with 20 minutes
remaining when Thurkettle reciprocated and fired in a low cross from the left
for Izzy to slide the ball home.
March pressed in the closing stages for a consolation goal winning a succession
of corners but Charters dealt comfortably with the danger to record the first
clean since September.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 2, Leiston 3 (1-1)
Team: Ross
Charters, Karl Knights, Chris Kyle, Jimmy Andrews, Lee Parry, Nick
Barker (Evans 78), Ismail
Etti, Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Gavin Moss (Sharpe 79), David
Thurkettle (Cooper 85)
A goal by Shemmings three minutes from time saw the visitors claim all three
points in the East Suffolk derby. The Seasiders were once again left to rue
missed chances with Leiston's Wright bravely stepping in for regular keeper Fenn
who failed to re-appear after the interval due to a leg injury.
The Seasiders
had 16 year old Lee Parry in the starting line up for his first full Jewson
League game and also welcomed back David Thurkettle. The game took time to
settle but sprang to life in the tenth minute when Barker launched a Felixstowe
attack which saw a sweeping move involving Fuller and Moss brought to a close by
a good tackle from Wright. Immediately a long clearance from Leiston's
keeper Fenn found Fryer in space on the left and his cross was headed onto the
post by the influential Shemmings.
On 14 minutes the home side also struck the woodwork with Thurkettle's free kick
from the edge of the area clattering against Fenn's cross bar. Moments later
Fenn pulled up sharply and after lengthy treatment on a leg he carried on.
The seasiders took the lead on 26 minutes when Ismail Etti
pounced on a weak back pass
from Wright to rattle the ball home under the advancing Fenn. The lead was held
for less than two minutes with Richard Shemmings
left unmarked ten yards out to head home Chenery's cross from the right wing for
the equaliser. The same combination opened up the home defence again on 34
minutes with Charters saving from Shemmings at the expence of a corner. Leiston
finished the half strongly with Parry clearing off the line to deny Chennery
following a corner for the visitors.
Fenn did not reappear for the second half with Wright pulling on the keepers
gloves for the second half. Wright was pleased to see Etti spurn an excellent
chance from two yards immediately after the interval with Chennery coming to his
aid to clear for a corner as Etti
closed in once again.
The home side failed to press home their advantage and on 55 minutes Leiston
took the lead as Ivan Fryer forced home the ball
following a goalmouth scramble as the home side failed to effectively deal with
a corner kick.
Wright failed to hold Barker's long range shot on 67 minutes and though he
blocked Fullers effort he could not prevent Gavin Moss
from scoring as he swooped onto the lose ball. Moss headed over from
Thurkettle's cross and Wright saved Andrew's shot from close range before diving
bravely at the feet of Moss as the home side went in search of the winner.
Thurkettle struck the bar once again from distance and Fuller headed over from
three yards from Sharpe' excellently weighted cross six minutes from time. With
the draw looking the most likely result Fryer found
Richard Shemmings with a pass from the half way line and he ran on
unopposed to fire the ball under the diving Charters for his second and the
winner.
Congratulations to Referee Nick Cooper who had an excellent game on his
Birthday.
Christmas Day
Just before 4pm this afternoon we welcomed March Town United
Chairman Gary Wesley and Gordon Green
to Dellwood Avenue. Gary and Gordon
had set out at
6.30am this morning to visit all 42 Jewson League Clubs in the 'Mad
March Hare Christmas Challenge'.
The Challenge was taking place due to the tragic deaths of two March Under 18
players at the beginning of November, with money being raised for a memorial.
Felixstowe was number 29 on the tour and with 350 miles already clocked up there
was just enough time for Felixstowe and Walton United's joint Secretary Jayne
Ryan to present Gary and Gordon with a certificate and cheque before they sped
off to Leiston. We wish them every success.
Saturday
21st December 2002

Needham Market 3,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 2 (1-0)
Team: Ross
Charters, Karl Knights (Sharpe 81), Chris Kyle, Andy Crump, Jimmy Andrews, Nick
Barker (Morton 90), Dean Sadler, Michael Felgate, Ismail
Etti, Robbie Fuller, Robbie
Evans (Parry 51).
No strangers to defeat, the Seasiders will be bitterly disappointed at this loss
having been on top for over an hour of the game. Despite falling behind,
following Needham's first corner of the game just before the break, the Visitors
had produced enough openings to suggest the game was far from over. Two
goals in two minutes shortly after the interval should have put Felixstowe
firmly in control but having failed to extend their lead they surrendered a goal
from Needham's second corner of the game on 66 minutes. The home side took a
firm grip on the game from that point on claiming all three points 15 minutes
from time from yet another corner.
The Seasiders
belied their league position with a strong and positive performance at
Bloomfields this afternoon with Felgate firing over the bar from the visitors
first attack of the game after only 37 seconds. Holland saved well to deny Etti
and Fuller was just wide with a long range effort as Felixstowe built attacks
regularly through Barker and Sadler. After a slow start the home side gradually
gained a foot hold with Briggs and Wake increasing their influence on the game.
On 19 minutes Wake made space on the edge of the area but pulled his shot wide
of Charters right hand upright. An excellent pass from Folkard enabled Briggs to
break through the Felixstowe defence on 25 minutes but his shot drifted wide of
the post. Andrews was well placed to head off the Needham goal line and deny
Etti a headed goal following Barker's corner on 28 minutes and shortly after
Etti again saw a goal bound shot deflected for a corner as the Seasiders
continued to press.
Two Minutes before the break Stewart took the home sides first corner of the
game which looked to be drifting out until Folkard headed the ball back into
play for Marc Wake to pounce and stab the ball home
from close range.
The Seasiders started the second half as they had the first taking the game to
the hosts and they deservedly equalised six minutes after the interval with
Ismail Etti out-sprinting the home defence to place
the ball under the advancing Holland. Two minutes later a Barker corner from the
right was firmly headed home by Karl Knights to
give the visitors the lead.
The Seasiders looked firmly in control until Needham's second corner just after
the hour which saw Dean Folkard rise unopposed to
head home Pooley's kick. The momentum was now with the home side and it was no
surprise when Lee Briggs headed home the winner
eight minutes later from yet another corner. Wake placed his shot wide of the
target after a good run and cross from Wands as Needham finished the game
strongly.
Having controlled the game for long periods the Seasiders will be disappointed
not to have pressed home their advantage and taken something from the match.
Tuesday 17th December 2002
- Millennium Trophy 1st round
Bury Town 3,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1 (2-1)
Team: Ross
Charters, Lee Parry, Chris Kyle, Nick Barker, Jimmy Andrews, Andy Crump, Ismail
Etti, Michael Felgate (Morton 61), Robbie Fuller, Gavin Moss (Sharpe 81), Robbie
Evans
The Blues progressed to the 2nd Round of the Millennium Trophy at Ram Meadow
this evening against a youthful and spirited Felixstowe side. The Seasiders took
an early lead against their senior opponents as both goalkeepers produced
excellent first half saves. After the home side took the lead just before the
break the result was rarely in question with the visitors tiring in the last
quarter.
Sixteen year old Lee
Parry played his first full game for the Seasider's first eleven with both teams
making changes from Saturday's line ups. Bury pressed from the start with
Charters making a triple save in the sixth minute as he denied Tatham and then
North from the rebound and Tatham again as the ball came back into the area.
Evans shot wide following Felixstowe's first attack after a strong run from
Moss. North saw his curling free kick go over the bar from the edge of the area
on 10 minutes and a minute later the same player fired wide from distance. Bury
looked vulnerable to the ball over the defence and on 16 minutes Barker's long
kick into the area found Ismail Etti drifting in
from the right to place a
header over the advancing Cudworth. Bury continued to pass the ball well with
runs from Thorogood and Colins opening up the Felixstowe defence. On 24 minutes
Thorogood crossed for James Tatham to place a
looping header over Charters to bring the scores level. Bury were on top but
Felixstowe looked dangerous on the break with Fuller connecting cleanly with a
long ball from Barker but Cudworth blocked the shot and minutes later was
quickly off his line to deny the advancing Fuller.
Charters palmed Smiths header over the bar at the expense of a corner but Bury
were ahead at the interval with David Proctor
hammering home an unstoppable shot from 20 yards.
The pressure from the home side gradually increased after the break with
Jonathan Thorogood scoring the third on 67 minutes
low to Charter's right following a cross from Smith.
Saturday 14th December 2002
- Jewson League Division 1
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 2, Warboys Town 1 (1-1)
Team: Ross
Charters, Karl Knights (Evans 83), Chris Kyle, Jimmy Andrews, Andy Crump, Nick Barker,
Dean Sadler, Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Gavin Moss (Parry 74), David Thurkettle
(Etti)
A run of 13 games without a win for the Seasiders was brought to an
end this afternoon at Dellwood Avenue with victory over bottom side Warboys. The
home side were forced to come from behind after Holmes
put the Witches ahead with Andrews levelling just
before the break and Crump scoring what proved to
be the winner early
in the second half.
Referee
Maurice Cook delayed the start of the game for 15 minutes with Warboys held up
in traffic on their way to the ground. The visitors forced the first corner of
the game on three minutes as they stared brightly. Felixstowe's first corner on
five minutes produced a save from Mackney as he held Sadler's shot after the ball
had run lose on the six yard line. Barker placed his free kick from 20 yards
wide on 19 minutes of a scrappy game before Holmes created the best opening so
far for the visitors, but his neatly taken shot on the turn was straight at Charters in the home
goal. On the half hour Kay started and finished a flowing move from Warboys with
Charters saving Kay's shot low to his left.
Fuller struck the post from close range after a free kick from Barker which saw Thurkettle advance into the area to produce a telling pass. On 34 minutes the
visitors took the lead when Marker broke down the right to draw Charters from
his goal and deliver a square pass for Kenny Holmes
to tap the ball home unmarked from close range. The home side pressed
for an equaliser before the interval with Felgate twice going close and Crump
firing wide after a good trap and lay back from Fuller in the Warboy's area. With
seconds remaining to the break the Warboys defence failed to clear the ball
following Thurkettle's corner with Jimmy Andrews
pictured right hammering the ball home from close range.
The Seasiders took
the lead nine minutes into the second half through Andy
Crump with a well taken shot from 8yards after Fuller had headed Barker's
corner back into the danger area. The home side spurned three excellent chances
to put the game beyond the visitors with Moss breaking from the half way line
and outrunning two Warboys defenders only to put his shot wide with Mackney stranded.
Fuller crossed from the right with Etti running clear of the defence but his
shot was well saved by Mackney at the expense of a corner. Fuller pulled a shot
wide of the post and with the time running it looked as though the Seasiders may
be left to rue those missed chances. Mark Nutter found space behind the home
defence on a number of occasions but could not find the final telling pass. With
time running down Head broke down the left and the home fans held their breath as his shot narrowly missed Charters
left hand upright.
Despite Warboy's late rally the Seasiders held on to all three points and, with
Downham defeated 2-1 at home by Halstead, move out of the bottom two places.
Saturday 7th December 2002
- Jewson League Division 1
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1, Hadleigh United 5 (0-2)
Team: Ross
Charters, Karl Knights (Sharpe 74), Chris Kyle, Jimmy Andrews, Andy Clarke
(Morton 18), Nick Barker, Gavin Moss, Robbie Evans (Cooper 61), Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti, David Thurkettle
Felixstowe old boy Louis Newman saw his Hadleigh side comfortably
maintain their top of the table position with a nap hand at Dellwood Avenue this
afternoon. Hadleigh were in
control of the game from the 36th minute after Welton had fired them ahead, although a second half goal from Evans briefly
threatened a Seasider come back. The visitors stepped up their game to score
three second half goals and stay undefeated away from home in the league this
season.
Paul Adams was pleased to
welcome back Karl Knights to the Felixstowe line up, after a lengthy spell out
through injury, to bolster the home defence. Three under 18 players, Aiden
Sharpe, Craig Morton and Mark Cooper were on the bench with the Seasiders
looking for their first win in over two months.
Robbie Evans struck the Hadleigh bar with a well taken shot on the turn after
only two minutes as the home side started well. Charters produced an excellent
diving save to deny Kieron Donovan after nine minutes as Hadleigh began to get
into their stride. Cracknell beat three defenders to open up a scoring
opportunity but Charters was equal to the task. Craig Morton replaced the the
injured Clarke after 18 minutes with the 17 year old producing a mature
performance on his first team debut.
Both sides enjoyed a good share of possession with Charters the busier of the
two keepers as Hadleigh created the better opportunities. Charters saved from
the head of Donovan on 35 minutes and from the resulting corner
Scott Welton hammered home the ball from the edge of the box to put the
visitors ahead. Hadleigh took a grip of the game from this point with the
Seasiders falling further behind before the break after Merrick dispossessed
Evans on the edge of the area and crossed for Tony Cracknell to steer the ball
home unopposed from seven yards,
Hadleigh settled on their lead after the interval and looked comfortably in
control until Thurkettle produced a piece of magic to open the visiting defence.
The Felixstowe number 11 teased two defenders on the touch line before nutmeging one of them and bursting through to cross for
Robbie Evans to score his first goal for the senior side.
Tails up, the home side looked briefly to stage a dramatic revival but Hadleigh
found another gear and five minutes later increased their lead with former
Seasider Peter Grant forcing the ball home through
a crowded penalty area. Cooper and Sharpe were introduced to the game and though
they performed well Hadleigh were now in full flow. Kieron
Donovan headed home from Merrick's cross and substitute
Chris Smith was able to pick his spot to drive home
Cracknells deep pass and seal the victory which will see Hadleigh retain top spot
tonight.

- Jewson League Division 1
Halstead Town 2,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 0 (2-0)
Team: Ross
Charters, Dean Sadler, Chris Kyle, Andy Clarke, Jimmy Andrews,
Nick Barker (McCormack 90), Ismail Etti, Robbie Evans (Robinson 75), Robbie Fuller, Gavin Moss, David Thurkettle
The Seasiders contributed fully to a competitive and entertaining game
with the destination of the points decided in favour of the home side by the
half time interval following goals from Guyon and Sestak. Both goalkeepers
produced excellent second half saves to prevent any further scoring with
Thurkettle striking the post for the visitors as they failed to find a goal
their perseverance deserved.
Halstead's experienced
defence and confident front line held the edge in the first half against a
Felixstowe side that produced some flowing build up play but lacked a cutting
edge in the final third. Halstead won the first corner of the game on seven
minutes after Andrews had cleared the danger posed by Hearn down the visitors
left flank. Charters collected the corner setting up a break that saw Barker and
Thurkettle link well with Fuller pulling his shot just wide. Charters made the
first of a number of saves on eleven minutes when he denied Strong at the
expense of a corner but there was little he could do a minute later when
journeyman Nick Guyon took full advantage of the
time and space allowed to rifle home an unstoppable shot from 35 yards
into the top corner of the net.
Moss had an effort on target minutes later, as Felixstowe continued to build
positively through the influential Barker in midfield, but Pentney was able to
comfortably handle.
Halstead went further ahead on 38 minutes after Charters and Sadler had combined
to block English's close range strike but the ball was not cleared from the
danger area with Richard Sestak blasting the ball
home through a packed goal area from 16 yards.

After the break the game continued to flow from end to end with Pentney seeing
more of the action than in the first period. A quickly taken free kick by Barker
allowed Thurkettle to run into the home penalty area and he was unfortunate to
his his shot strike the post and rebound to safety. Chatters and Guyon both went
close before Moss brought the first of two excellent saves from Pentney as he
stretched to palm over Moss's header from Sadler's cross. Hearn shot wide of the
target after substitute Welham's hard work and delivery had provided an
excellent opportunity to put the game beyond doubt. Charters made a double save
to deny English before Pentney used his height to good effect once again to palm
a shot from Fuller over the bar following a sweeping move from the Seasiders.
Over the ninety minutes the home side were worthy winners but Felixstowe were
always in the contest and will be disappointed not to have got onto the score
sheet in the second half.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1, Godmanchester Rovers 1 (1-0)
Team: Ross
Charters, Andy Crump, Andy Clarke, Simon Daniels (Kyle 18), Jimmy Andrews,
Nick Barker (Robinson 80), Ismail Etti, Robbie Evans, Robbie Fuller, Gavin Moss, David Thurkettle
The Seasiders will be hoping that the tide has now turned following a 1-1
draw against a youthful Godmanchester side that played flowing passing football
from the first to final whistle.
The visitors
enjoyed the better of the early exchanges with charters saving low to deny Kemp
and Carnamatti headed over the Felixstowe bar following another flowing move
from the visitors. Charters was called into action again to save from Potter at
the expense of a corner and following neat interplay between Thompson and Potter
Hurst fired wide.
The home side steadily increased their share of possession as the half
progressed with Thurkettle's well struck drive following a Barker free
kick bringing an excellent save from Bigger in the visitors goal.
On 45 minutes Thompson placed his left foot shot wide of the upright as the home
defence allowed his space to pick his spot. The miss was to prove expensive as
with seconds remaining Etti rose to guide Clarke' free kick across the
Godmanchester goal for Robbie Fuller to swoop and
head home from close range to put the home side ahead at the break.
Felixstowe started the second half as they had finished the first with Andrews
heading wide from Barker's corner and Hurst clearing, from what looked
suspiciously like behind the line, five minutes after the restart. The game
flowed end to end with Charters saving from Hurst and thankful to Andrews for
clearing the danger.
The impressive De'ath on the right flank gradually imposed his presence on the
game with a number of good runs. De'ath forced Charters to make a good
save low to his left on 65 minutes and then crossed to provide Thompson with a
good opportunity which he spooned over from 12 yards. Thurkettle and Fuller were
linking well with Evans unable to finish off a flowing move as the Seasiders
looked for a second goal.
The equalising goal was scored on 77 minutes with Godmanchester gaining
possession in midfield and with play switched from left to right substitute
Ben Squires found himself with time and space to
drill the ball home past the diving Charters.
From that point Godmanchester looked the team most likely to claim all three
points but the game ended square with the draw a fair result over the ninety
minutes.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 2, Cambridge City Reserves 3 (2-3)
Team: Ross
Charters, Andy Crump, Robbie Evans (Etti 73), Jimmy Andrews, Andy Clarke, Nick Barker,
Dean Sadler (Robinson 81), Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Gavin Moss, David Thurkettle
A goal from Captain Marcus Herring
three minutes from time saw Cambridge City Reserves regain top spot in Division
one following a win over a Felixstowe side that undeniably deserved some reward
from an entertaining game having fought back to level from two goals down.
A single goal from
City's top goal scorer Steve Thacker separated the
sides at the interval after he struck the ball well from the edge of the area on
29 minutes passed the diving Charters. Stanton's shot from the edge of the area
was deflected onto the Felixstowe bar and Thacker struck his shot into the side
netting as the young City side enjoyed the better of the early exchanges. The
Seasiders gradually increased their share of possession with Thurkettle's deep
crosses and corners threatening the visiting defence. A free kick from
Thurkettle was was well collected by Pacey in the City goal and a jinking run
from Evans ended with Fuller's shot being blocked. Pell fired over from Thackers
cross before Thacker struck to claim the lead but Felixstowe finished the half
strongly with Fuller heading wide and Moss volleying over from Barker's cross
from the right.
The game looked far from a top verses bottom affair with Felixstowe taking the
game to the visitors after the break with Crump shooting over the bar following a
flowing move involving Evans and Moss. The determination of the home side with
Clarke and Andrews battling hard for every ball looked to have been rewarded on 57
minutes when Moss fired home the lose ball after a goal mouth scramble, only to
be ruled out for a foul on the keeper. Fuller struck the post from Thurkettle's
cross and it only seemed a matter of time before an equaliser would come, but it
was the visitors who claimed their second with ten minutes remaining as Pell
found Thacker with a cross from the right. Steve Thacker's
first attempt was saved by Charters but the number 9 made no mistake from the
rebound heading over the Felixstowe keeper into the net.
The game was far from over however with Ismail Etti
striking the ball home from close range following a powerful run from Moss to
set up a grandstand finish. Etti and Felgate linked well for
Robbie Fuller to strike with four minutes remaining
to bring the sides level as the volume increased on the touch line.
With a draw looking a fair result danger man Thacker crossed low along the six
yard line with Hering first to the ball to steer it
passed the diving Charters. With the home crowd urging the Seasiders on to one
last effort Etti headed wide and Fuller found the side netting. The points went
down the A14 to Cambridge but The Seasiders will be encouraged by this
performance with spirits far from down in the Club House after the game.
Manager Paul Adams had nothing but praise for his side with the tireless Jimmy
Andrews named Felixstowe's man of the match.

Cornard United 2,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1 (0-0)
Team: Ross Charters,
Dean Sadler (Wells 70), Andy Crump, Trevor Childs (G Evans 70), Jimmy Andrews, Nick Barker, Michael Felgate
(R Evans 45), Paul Rook, Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti, David Thurkettle
Two late goals from Cornard denied the Seasiders any reward from a game
in which they showed plenty of determination and looked to be heading home with
all three points after Thurkettle had put them ahead with fifteen minutes
remaining
New signing Paul
Rook produced a solid performance in midfield on his debut with Felixstowe
making a positive start to the game. Evason made a good early run through the
visitors defence but was denied by a strong tackle from Barker and Sadler had to
be alert to clear off the line as Cornard enjoyed a good spell of pressure. The
dangerous Bethell struck the bar on 11 minutes and saw another shot blocked by
Andrews at the expense of a corner. Fuller and Etti were working hard to put
pressure on the home defence and a cross field pass from Thurkettle found
Felgate on the edge of the area with his shot across the goal passing narrowly
wide. The game flowed from end to end with Charters parrying Glitz shot on goal
and Bethell just failing to steer in the rebound. Fuller saw a shot blocked with
Cornard surviving a strong penalty appeal as Fuller went down in the area.
Fuller went close to putting the visitors ahead after the break following a
cross from the right by Felgate which saw the Felixstowe number nine volley his
effort over the bar. Charters saved low at a post to deny Ford before the
visitors took the lead on 75 minutes. Thurkettle
made a strong run down the left and his looping drive from wide on the touch
line defeated everyone in the area including Moyes in the home goal to fly into
the back of the net.
Cornard pressed forward but failed to trouble Charters until three minutes from
time when a lose ball on the edge of the area was not cleared and
Neil Hesketh pounced to fire home the equaliser.
With four minutes of injury time on the watch Evason headed toward a crowded
goalmouth with the ball rebounding off a Felixstowe defender into the net for a
Cornard win.
Following a determined team performance by Felixstowe this defeat will be hard
to take but confidence must be gained from the standard of play achieved and
belief that if this performance is repeated on a regular basis then the
results will follow.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 0 (3-0)
Team: Ross Charters,
Dean Sadler, Aaron wells, Jimmy Andrews, John Hope, Nick Barker, Gavin Evans (Moss 63), Michael Felgate
(R Evans 45), Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti, David Thurkettle
A first half hat-trick from Marcus Hunt saw Rovers on their way to a
comfortable win this afternoon. The margin of victory could have been even more
conclusive with the home side creating numerous chances as they ripped through a
Felixstowe defence which did little to protect Ross Charters who was kept busy
while David Walton in the home goal was called upon to make only one save in the
entire game.
Rovers were on the front foot from the start of the game with a
corner in the
first minute that was headed clear by Hope. The pressure on the visiting goal
continued and when King crossed from the left in the fifth minute
Marcus Hunt found himself unmarked on the edge of
the area with time to pick his spot and volley home. Jenkin fired into the side
netting as he calved through the static Felixstowe defence and Charters was
called upon to make an acrobatic save at the expense of a corner as a miss hit
clearance flew off the boot of Andrews and was destined for the top corner of
the net.
Jenkin outpaced the Felixstowe defence and his cross was only half cleared with
Hunt scoring his second with a crisp shot from the
edge of the area. Hunt completed his hat-trick five
minutes later in the 23rd minute when he powerfully headed home Sharpe's corner
at the near post.
T
he Rover's forwards continued to create openings with Jenkin, King, Cowling and
Walker all going close to increasing the lead and when Cowling was pushed in the
area Eddie King stepped up to rifle home Rover's
fourth from the spot two minutes after the break.
Ross Charters made an excellent double save to deny Jenkin from the penalty spot
after Cowling had been fouled. The Seasiders first strike on goal came seven
minutes from time with Moss hitting the side netting following a strong 25 yard
run. Thurkettle forced the only save of the game from Walton two minutes later
as dived low to his right but it was the home side that continued to dominate
with Sharpe hitting the Felixstowe cross bar in the final minute.

Team: Ross Charters,
John Hope, Paul Berry, Simon Daniels,

The Seasiders were looking to end a run of six defeats as they welcomed
Long Melford to Dellwood Avenue with the floodlights required from the start of
the game on a grey and wet afternoon.
The
familiar story of neat attractive football box to box, and an absence of
clinical finishing combined with errors in defence cost the home side deer once
again as the Villagers calved out a three goal half time lead. Despite the
Seasiders making an early reply after the interval the destination of the points
was never really in doubt.
Felixstowe took the game to Melton from the kick off forcing two early corners
but the visitors were ahead from their first real attack of the game on three
minutes which ended with Daniels bringing down Judd and
Tony French converting from the penalty spot.
The home side looked for a quick reply and Thurkettle struck the ball with pace
from
distance but it
was comfortably held by the experienced Haygreen.
Evans, Berry, Fuller and Etti were linking well for the Seasiders but the final
telling ball eluded them. There appeared little danger as Felixstowe took a
throw in the Melford half of the field after 15 minutes but the ball was
intercepted by Hill and his long pass upfield found Tony
French with space and time to steer the ball past Charters
from wide on the left.
Michael Stratton extended the lead on 31 minutes
with a glancing header as he drifted in behind the Felixstowe back line to reach
the ball before the advancing Charters.
Etti was close with a shot on the turn that was eventually cleared to safety by
Hill and Pratt headed clear at the expense of a corner with the home side
pressing forward as the interval approached.
Ismail Etti headed home from Fuller's accurate
cross less than two minutes after the break sparking hope of a home team fight
back and though there was no lack of effort but Arnold, Pratt and Dack in the
Melton defence ensured that any sight of goal was kept to a minimum. Paul Berry
in his last game for the Club made a number of skilful runs and Thurkettle
impressed with his corners and crosses but it was the visitors who went closest
to adding to their account with French and Hill both going close when well
paced.

Jimmy Andrews, Paul
Berry, Michael Felgate, Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti, David Thurkettle (G
Evans 70)
Had the home side finished the chances they created in this game then they might
well have produced the shock result of the season against 58 goal Premier
Division leaders Wroxham, but in the end the Yachtsmen showed why they are at
the top while the Seasiders struggle in the lower reaches of Division One.
It looked ominous in
the opening minutes as Ben Thomas ran on to Lewis’s
through ball unchallenged to plant the ball firmly past Charters in the opening
thirty seconds and then added a second inside four minutes from Monks free kick.
The home side then responded well playing what must be their best football of
the season in a 15 minute spell that saw Andrews head over and Felgate hook
Etti’s near post cross over, Thurkettle drive a free kick inches wide and Etti’s
cross shot going inches wide with Fuller just failing to get a touch at the far
post.
Parsons had to produce a top quality save to deny Etti 5 minutes before the
break as the home side continued to create openings but with no reward from
their efforts Felixstowe & Walton paid the ultimate price as Wroxham came out
for the second period looking far more determined.
Thomas should have had his hat-trick in the 50th minute but shot wide
to end a good build up before Pauling produced a
stunning goal to wrap the game up in the 57th min volleying an
unstoppable 25 yard shot past Charters .
The Seasiders were still working hard although the chances became fewer and
further apart as Wroxham tightened their grip on the game and when Thomas was
pushed over in the area in the 70th min. it looked as though the
scoreline would widen once more but Charters denied Thomas with a brilliant
penalty save low to his left.
Although the home side deserved some reward from their efforts they failed to
finish their openings with Fuller lobbing Parsons late in the game but seeing
his effort drift wide of the post and Crump testing the Wroxham custodian with a
powerful volley.

Team: Ross Charters,
Michael Felgate, Aaron Wells, Shaun Thompson, Andy Clarke, Andy Crump, Paul
Berry, Jimmy Andrews, Robbie Fuller,
Robbie Evans (Etti 45), David Thurkettle
Defensive mistakes and spurned chances provided ample evidence as to why
these sides are at the wrong end of the table, but despite that an entertaining
game was provided for the sparse crowd with the destiny of the points in doubt
until the final whistle.
Thurkettle was denied in the opening seconds by Thomas in the Thetford
goal as the Felixstowe forward intercepted from the kick off and ran
unchallenged on the home goal. Within a minute Thomas again saved from
Thurkettle this time at the expense of a corner. From the clearance Thetford
broke with Almond shooting over the visitors goal as the game started in lively
fashion. Neal Logan headed home unchallenged at the
near post from Smith's well flighted corner to open the scoring for the home
side in the fourth minute. Fuller, Thurkettle and Berry linked well with Fuller
forcing a good save from Thomas before Logan cleared for a corner as the
visitors built a number of attacks in search of the equaliser. Both sides looked
vulnerable in defence finding difficulty in clearing their lines and guilty of
giving the ball away cheaply.
When Clarke lost his balance on 34 minutes Matthew
Catchpole collected the ball on the edge of the Felixstowe area and fired
the ball under the diving Charters from 16 yards to double the home sides lead
at the break.
Ismail Etti entered the game at the interval and
headed home Berry's 65th minute free kick to give the Seasiders hope of a second
half come back. Fuller and Etti both had further shots saved by Thomas as the
home side defended in depth and Felixstowe grew in confidence that an equaliser
would be found. Etti headed over from Wells' cross and following a succession of
corners Crump saw his goal bound shot charged down at the post by Thomas. Berry
also went close for Felixstowe with Mleczek blasting wide when he could have
saved Thetford from a nervous end to the game as Referee Betts made sure that
all stoppage time was fully recovered. The Seasiders finished on top but
Thetford held on to claim all three points.

The Jockey's progressed to the semi-finals of Suffolk Premier Cup
following a comfortable win over last years finalists, Felixstowe & Walton
United. Ross Charters denied Steve Tuck on nine minutes with a diving save but
Paul Stokes was first to the lose ball to put the
home side ahead. Robbie Fuller saw his shot charged down with
David Thurkettle striking the ball home for the
equaliser as opportunities were created by both sides.
Oxborough athletically palmed Wells's free kick on
to the bar and away for a corner as the visitors enjoyed a sustained spell of
pressure but it was Newmarket who were ahead by a short neck at the break as
Paul Stokes was allowed time on the edge of the box
to fire home his second.
The Seasiders lost their way and shape after the interval with Newmarket going
further ahead on 56 minutes when the Felixstowe defence failed to clear a ball
into the area. Jack Bunning put the tie beyond any
doubt with the home sides fourth.

Simon Daniels (Andrews 63), Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti , David Thurkettle
Ryman Division 2 side Leyton overwhelmed their hosts in opening 11
minutes which saw score them fours goals as they tore through the home defence
at will. The Seasiders worked hard to stem the tide but were well beaten with
the Lilywhites advancing comfortably to the second round.
Felixstowe kicked off
in bright sunshine but were quickly on the back foot with Wells heading over his
own bar at the expense of a corner as Leyton poured forward. They were rewarded
as soon as the third minute with George Gregoriou
volleying home from the edge of the area. Two minutes later
Chris Tucker headed powerfully home from a free
kick wide on the left and Jon Emery ran through a
static defence to score the third on nine minutes. The match was over as a
contest two minutes later when Jeff Wood made it
four and the shell shocked home looked to be heading for an embarrassing
scoreline.
The Seasiders first attack on 13 minutes saw Berry shoot wide after good build
up play involving Fuller and Etti as the home side looked to stem the tide.
Leyton took their foot off the pedal but always looked likely to increase their
lead at any time.
Felixstowe' first shot on goal came on the hour with Peat comfortably saving
from Daniels. Etti's perseverance looked to have been rewarded on 68 minute when
he was brought down by Thomas but Thurkettle's weak shot from the penalty spot
was comfortably saved by Peat. Following a succession of corners
Manny Williams scored Leyton's fifth stabbing the
ball home from close range.
The very best to Leyton F.C. in the next round.

Paul Berry,
Michael Felgate (Wiggins 78), Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti (Wright 55), David
Thirkettle
Two goals in a minute after the interval dealt the visitors a body blow
from which they never recovered enabling Stanway to gain revenge for defeat at
Dellwood Avenue earlier in the season.
The home side held
the early advantage with a goal after only three minutes from
Martin Curtis as he fired home from 8 yards. Driver
went close and Charters saved low to his left to deny Curtis at the expense of a
corner as Stanway's flowing football orchestrated by Ingles and Springett
threatened to overwhelm the Seasiders defence.
Felixstowe's first corner came on 12 minutes as the visitors gained a foothold
on the game with Schultz coming under increasing pressure from Thirkettle's deep
crosses and Berry's runs from midfield. Etti went close as he beat the last
defender to the ball but the home defence recovered to scramble the ball clear.
The equaliser came on 32 minutes when Berry cut in from the left and squared the
ball for Robbie Fuller to turn and shoot from the
edge of the area defeating the diving Schultz at his right hand post.
The game flowed from end to end with neat attractive football being played by
both sides. An own goal separated the teams at the interval when a deep cross
fell to Andrews under pressure and he could only help the ball past the stranded
Charters.
Following the restart Barker
crossed from deep on the left with Fuller hitting the bar as the Seasiders went
close to an equaliser. Stanway proceeded to dominate from that point on with
first Sam Simes heading home Springett's free kick
on 53 minutes and then less than a minute later Springett's corner kick found
Rob Bate unmarked six yards from goal to head home
the home sides fourth goal and put the game beyond the Seasiders.
Rob Bate scored his second from an excellent Ingles
cross and Glen Driver was able to tap home and make
it six as he reacted first to the lose ball after Charters had parried Saker's
shot.
David Schultz, a virtual spectator in the second half, could do little to
prevent a late consolation goal from Stewart Wright as he arrowed his shot from
the angle of the area into the top corner of the goal.

Gavin Evans, Robbie Evans (Felgate 79), Robbie Fuller,
Paul Berry, Leon Wiggins.
A single goal from Rene Swann
on the hour gave victory to the home side on the night and safe passage through
to the second round following a comfortable 6-2 aggregate win.
The impressive Swann
opened up the visiting defence after only two minutes but saw his shot fly over
the bar. Barker went closest for Felixstowe with a shot from distance and Layton
cleared the visitors bar with a well struck shot as the half, which had seen
neither keeper troubled, draw to a close.
Charters was much busier after the break with Swann bringing the best out of the
Seasider's keeper with a shot then a header within four minutes of the restart.
Robbie Evans struck a powerful shot from distance hitting the roof of the net
following the Seasiders best attack of the half.
On the hour Swann collected the ball on the half way line and leaving defenders
in his wake struck the ball under the diving Charters for the winner.
The Greens continued to dominate the half with Charters at full stretch to deny
Sadler and ensure the final scored remained 1-0.

Team: Ross Charters,
Trevor Bygate, Andy Clarke, Shaun Thompson, Simon Daniels, Nicky Barker, Paul Berry, Jimmy Andrews, Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti
(wells60)
David Thirkettle (R Evans 90)
Three goals in four minutes after the break saw the Seasiders collect all
three points from a game that the Linnets will rightly feel disappointed to have
lost.
After the home side
forced forced two early corners the Linnets went on to gain the upper hand in
first half with young Captain Jack Defty influential in most of the visitors
constructive build up play.
Shaun Thompson on his debut cleared off the line from Brendling in the tenth
minute after Charters in the home goal had initially parried Childs well struck
shot. Defty finished off a jinking run by putting the ball in the side netting
and Felixstowe Captain Barker intercepted a dangerous deep cross into the area
from Defty moments later. Clarke cleared from Brendling at the expense of a
corner and Brendling then placed his shot wide following a flowing Lynn move
with Defty in the thick of it as the visitors continued to press.
Robbie Fuller had Felixstowe's best chance of the half when he broke from the
half way line but shot across the diving Mayes who made a good save. Charters
was on hand to pull off two good saves from Doughty and then Childs to keep the
scores level at the break.
Only seconds after the interval Lynn were awarded a free kick and from 20
yards Hunt hit a powerful shot that Charters could not hold with
Mike Thompson on hand to get the final touch and
put the visitors deservedly ahead.
Less than a minute
later it was all square as Felixstowe forced a quick corner and
Ismail Etti pounced to force the ball home from six
yards after Mayes failed to hold Berry's corner Kick. The home side were within
two minutes to complete an action packed four minutes when the ball ran loose in
the area and with Thompson and Paul Berry
stretching for the ball it looped over the stranded Mayes into the unguarded
net.
Lynn continued to create good possession but with legs tiring lacked bite in
front of goal although Redhead will be disappointed not have got his shot on
target with the clock running down.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1, Somersham Town 2 (1-1)
Team: Ross Charters,
Trevor Bygate, John McCormack (R Evans 27 (G Evans 71)), Simon Daniels, Andy
Clarke, Nicky Barker, Paul Berry, Jimmy Andrews, Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti,
David Thirkettle (Swift 71)
A penalty in each half from Jimmy Unwin saw the visitors claim
their first away points of the season after Nicky Barker had fired the Seasiders into
a 26th minute lead at Dellwood Avenue this afternoon. There was plenty of head
scratching at the end of a game that saw three bookings a sending off and two
penalties but in truth the home side had created enough chances to have won the
game despite a number of interesting decisions.
Somersham started
well with Glyn Cooke involved in most of the visitors positive early moves but
it was the Seasiders that came closest to opening the scoring when on six
minutes Wallace cleared the ball off the goal line to deny Fuller with Gibbs
beaten. Egan created Somersham's first clear opening but shot over the bar when
well placed to hit the target.
Thirkettle playing his first game this season after a long lay off through
injury made a strong run down the right on 24 minutes with his dangerous cross
scramble away by the visiting defence. Two minutes later the home side were
ahead when the ball broke to Nicky Barker and he
arrowed his shot low and hard under the diving Gibbs from 25 yards.
Etti went close to doubling the lead with a shot against the post before heading
the rebound onto the same post and out for a goal kick. Ten minutes before the
interval Norman went on jinking run into the home area but having looked to have
missed his opportunity and Daniels guarding
the ball over the line the Referee pointed to the spot.
Jimmy Unwin kept his cool during the ensuing discussions to bury the ball
past the diving Charters. Etti went close before the break as he turned and shot
over the bar following good work from Barker.
After the interval Berry crossed to Thirkettle who struck his shot against a
post as the Seasiders failed to capitalise on their neat build up play. Gibbs
spread himself well to deny Berry saving with his legs before the game erupted
in the 66th minute. Fuller and Hugill tangled after Fuller had fouled Cooke with
the Felixstowe number 9 shown a yellow card. Hugill, rather unfortunately, was
dismissed for his part in the exchange but from the free kick Daniels was
'adjudged' to have fouled Egan and Unwin once again
made no mistake from the spot kick.
Paul Adams made a double substitution in an attempt to rescue the game but
despite Etti and Fuller going close and Andrews striking the woodwork the
visitors goal held firm enabling Bob Barnett's team to claim all three
points.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 2,
Whitton United 5 (1-2)
- First Division K.O. Cup 1st Round 1st Leg
Team: Ross Charters,
Dean Sadler, Leon Wiggins, Nicky Barker, Trevor Childs (G Evans 81), Jimmy Andrews,
Robbie Evans (Robinson 60), John McCormack, Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti, Paul
Berry
Any hopes the Seasiders had of a prolonged run in
this competition were effectively ended tonight as neighbours Whitton deservedly
took a three goal advantage into the second leg in a fortnights time.
Although the game was
evenly balanced in the opening half Whitton made all the running after the break
to take a firm grip on the tie.
Despite taking an early lead the home side looked out of sorts and were never
able to cope with the Whitton forwards running at them with pace.
Fuller opened the scoring in the 7th
minute following up to turn the ball home after Etti had struck the post from
Berry’s cross but Whitton were level after 15 minutes through the talented
Hurd who produced a sparkling finish with a shot
across Charters that went in off the post.
The remainder of the half was evenly contested until the 44th minute
when Grimwood was allowed to run through, riding
three challenges before steering the ball wide of Charters to give his side the
half time advantage.
Etti levelled matters in the 53rd min.
with a similar type of goal but when Hurd produced
another top quality finish in the 66th minute to regain the lead for
his side the match was effectively over.
Swann ran through to add a fourth for his side
after 73 minutes and substitute Burglass rounded
off the scoring in the 87th minute with another solo effort.
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 3,
Colney Heath 1 (2-0) - FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round
Team: Ross Charters,
Nicky Barker, Leon Wiggins, Simon Daniels, Trevor Bygate, Jimmy Andrews, Paul
Berry, Robbie Evans, Robbie Fuller (Wright 83), Ismail Etti (Evans 83),
John McCormack (Robinson 67)
The Seasiders
progressed to the 1st Round proper of the FA Vase this afternoon following an
entertaining game against Spartan South Midlands League side Colney Heath.
Unlike recent games Felixstowe took full
advantage of chances that came their way with the Magpies left to rue missed
chances early in the game.
Robbie Evans pictured right making his 1st team debut was
influential in both first half goals scored by Robbie Fuller.
The Seasiders opened the scoring on five minutes after Evans brought the ball
under control in mid-field and switched play first to the right then to the left
allowing Wiggins space to run and cross with Robbie Fuller
volleying home past the diving Blackburne.
The game flowed from end to end with Charters gathering the ball under pressure
from Magpie Captain Mark Mezen and top scorer Lacey just failed to connect with
Jerome's cross
moments later. The visitors best chance of the half fell to top scorer Lacey on
26 minutes when the ball broke to him on the edge of the box but his scuffed
shot was comfortably collected by Charters. Barker, Daniels and Bygate were
combining well in defence as the home side played 3-5-2 with Wiggins and Berry
providing cover and pace down the flanks.
On 38 minutes The Seasiders extended their lead as Evans won the
ball in mid-field and played in Robbie Fuller who
ran on to rifle his shot home. Before the break Charters was forced to make an
acrobatic save at the expense of a corner to deny Parratt's goalbound
strike.
The Heath were quickly onto the attack after the interval with Khan close as he
narrowly stabbed the ball wide, but it was the Seasiders who extended their lead
on 53 minutes as Fuller saw his shot blocked and Jimmy
Andrews was on hand to drive home the loose ball. Bright's shot from
distance was collected by Charters as the visitors went in search of a
consolation which eventually came in injury time with
Scott Lacey pictured right making no mistake from the penalty spot.
The draw for the next round will be made on Monday 23rd September with ties to be
played on Saturday 19th October.

Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 1, Cornard United 2 (0-2)
Team: Ross Charters,
Dean Sadler, Lee Bloom, Simon Daniels, Trevor Childs, Jimmy Andrews, Michael Felgate
(Gavin Evans 78), Nicky Barker, Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti (Leon Wiggins
62), Paul Berry
It was another frustrating night for the Seasiders as they again
failed to find the finishing touch to their approach play. A first half that saw
some schoolboy defending saw the
visitors turn round
with a two goal advantage and despite controlling the game after the break it
took until the 89th minute for the home side to pull a goal back.
The talented Darren Bethell was allowed to turn 25
yds out and his looping shot beat Charters who was caught off his line to give
Cornard a 3rd minute lead.
From that point both sides looked evenly matched with Fuller & Bloom firing over
the visitors bar and Bethell going close at the other end before
Bethell added a second in the third minute of
stoppage time as Cooke’s free kick was allowed to float across the Felixstowe &
Walton area without being cleared for the Cornard striker to drill a well taken
shot past Charters.
The home side played with much more purpose after the break but again failed to
make the most of their possession although Berry was unfortunate to see his 75th
min. shot rebound off the Cornard bar and Robbie Fuller
had an effort disallowed for off-side before he finally reduced the deficit in
the 89th min turning substitute Evans intended shot past Moyes but it
was too little to late to save his side from another home defeat.

Downham Town 0,
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 0
Team: Ross Charters,
Michael Felgate, Andy Crump (Ronaldo Wright 89), Trevor Bygate ,
Simon Daniels, Nicky Barker, Dean Sadler, Jimmy Andrews (Leon Wiggins 84), Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti
(Gavin Evans 56), Paul Berry
Downham Town earned their first point of the season from a goalless draw
at the memorial Field this afternoon in an encounter that will not linger long
in the memory.
Both Goalkeepers were
called into serious action only once with Motterham in the Downham goal denying
the lively Berry as he broke from the half way line after the interval and
Charters was at full stretch to palm Bishop's fierce dipping drive over
the bar later in the second half.
Both sides found difficulty in getting the ball under control
with Downham's Bishop creating the first opening following a long throw but put
his chance wide. Fuller, Etti and Sadler linked well but without any real threat
to the home goal.
The first corner of the game went to Downham on 27 minutes with Williams firing
over from
the knock down
on the edge of the box. With ten minutes to the break Felixstowe stepped up the
pace winning a succession of corners without finding the final scoring touch and
with the interval approaching Fuller headed over the bar following Etti's good
run and cross.
Mark Heath Preston impressed for the home side after the break with some good
runs down the left and Paul Berry came increasingly into the game for the
Seasiders as the visitors increased the pressure on the home defence. A long
ball forward relieved the pressure for the home side and Williams split the
Felixstowe defence creating an excellent chance which Sadler did well to clear.
Paul Adams introduced all his substitutes to the game with Gavin Evans making
his debut and Leon Wiggins distributing the ball well but the home defence
weathered the late storm to deservedly hold on for a point.

- The FA Vase First Round Qualifying
Felixstowe & Walton Utd. 2, Letchworth F.C. 0 (0-0)
Team: Ross Charters,
Andy Crump, Andy Clarke, Trevor Bygate (Leon Wiggins 44), Simon Daniels, Nicky
Barker, Michael Felgate, Jimmy Andrews, Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti (Danny
Robinson 80), Paul Berry
Two second half goals for the Seasiders in an entertaining game saw the home
side advance to the second round qualifying stage of the FA Vase where they will
play Colney Heath at
Dellwood
Avenue on Saturday 21st September.
With Letchworth arriving only minutes before the kick off the bluebirds took a
little time to settle with Felixstowe hitting the woodwork twice in the first
five minutes as Etti headed against a post and Berry struck a dipping 18 yard
shot that clattered against the visitors bar with Graham beaten.
Letchworth steadily increased their level of possession with Pugh, Mills and
Coley looking dangerous in attack. The bluebirds best chance of the half fell to
Pugh as the ball ran through to him unmarked 12 yards from goal but his right
foot shot was narrowly wide of the target. The home side were playing some neat
passing
football and
a neat interchange involving Berry Clarke and Barker ended with a sharp strike
from Berry being well saved by Graham. A dangerous free kick from Potter was
cleared by Fuller and with half time approaching Lelliott cleared the danger as
Fuller threatened the Letchworth goal.
Two minutes after the interval Charters made an acrobatic save to deny Coley
from close range and redeem himself for a poor clearance. Five minute later the
deadlock was broken when Clarke was fouled in the area and
Nicky Barker stepped up to shoot powerfully past Graham. Letchworth
responded quickly with a run down the right from Mills cleared at the
expense of a corner by
Crump. The bluebirds looked to have a good shout for a penalty turned down when
Wiggins challenged Mills in the area and a shot from Mcardle was well held by
Charters as the visitors pressed for the equaliser.
The Seasiders claimed the tie with a dazzling run on 73 minutes from
Paul Berry who danced into the area, drew and
rounded Graham before planting the ball into the net from close range. From that
point there looked only one winner with Robinson and Fuller both going close and
a deflected goal by Fuller from Clarke's shot was ruled off-side as the final
whistle brought the game to an end.

Felixstowe & Walton United 0,
Swaffham Town 2 (0-0)
Team: Ross Charters, Trevor Bygate,
Andy Clarke, Simon Daniels, Paul Ager, Nicky
Barker, Michael Felgate (Leon Wiggins 68), Dean Sadler, Ismail Etti ,
Danny Robinson (Andy Crump 79), Paul Berry
Meandering to a scoreless draw the game exploded in the last ten minutes
with two penalties for the visitors with the first retaken after Charters
produced an excellent save.
Swaffham
started brightly with Leggett and McNeil lively up front and Bygate & Ager
quick to clear the danger.
The first shot on target came from Clarke for the Seasiders with a long range
effort that was comfortably handled by Higgs in the visitors goal. Felixstowe
slowly the gained the upper hand with Berry shooting wide, Etti firing over the
bar and Crook heading clear at the expense of a corner as Felgate
delivered a telling cross. The Seasiders would be left to rue these missed
chances later in the game and Higgs produced an excellent diving save to deny
Etti in the 31st minute with Etti then striking the bar two minutes later.
Swaffham were also guilty of missing the target with Gallen just wide from
Crook's cross and Back firing over the bar from Leggett's pass as the interval
approached.
Back made a number of positive runs down the left as the visitors pressed
forward after the break with Crook and Leggett both failing to get the vital
touch to one excellent cross one yard from goal.
With time running down and a goalless draw looking likely Swaffham were awarded
a penalty for a foul by Daniels on Leggett. Leggett himself took the spot kick
with Charters saving well down to his right but the Referee awarded a re-take
and cautioned Clarke following comments made to the penalty taker.
Kevin Leggett made no mistake with his second
attempt firing high and wide to Charters left on 82 minutes.
Two minutes later Ager fouled Leggett with the number 9 repeating the previous
spot kick to see the Pedlars maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

- Jewson League First Division
Felixstowe & Walton United 2, Stanway Rovers
1 (1-1)
Team: Ross Charters, Michael
Felgate, Chris Kyle (Andy Crump 80), Paul Ager, Trevor Bygate,
Nicky Barker,
Dean Sadler, Simon Daniels, Robbie Fuller (Leon Wiggins 85), Ismail Etti (Danny
Robinson 71), Paul Berry
Felixstowe & Walton got their season underway with a hard earned victory
tonight against an experienced Stanway side who created plenty of chances in the
opening spell but failed to take them before the Seasiders got themselves into
the game.
Stanway had the home
side at full stretch in the early stages with Glen Driver spurning two gilt
edged chances in the 4th min when he headed wide from close range and
again in the 18th minute when he blazed his shot over from the edge
of the area.
Having soaked up the pressure Felixstowe & Walton turned the game around in the
27th minute when Munson failed to hold a cross under pressure from
Etti and Robbie Fuller followed up to drive the
ball into the net.
Stanway continued to create the openings with both Grice and Ingles testing Ross
Charters before Mitchel Springett levelled the
scores in the 38th minute from a 25 yard free kick over the wall.
After
controlling the first period Stanway found the going much tougher after the
break as
Felixstowe &
Walton took a grip on the game with Paul Berry in outstanding form, turning
defenders on both flanks and it was Berry who started and finished what
proved to be the winning goal.
Collecting the ball in his own half in the 59th min. he delivered a
superb cross field pass to put Ismail Etti away on the right and Etti delivered
the perfect cross only to see Fullers power header rebound off the bar but
Paul Berry made the ground to collect the loose
ball and fire home the winner.
From that point their only looked one likely winner as Stanway became stretched,
too often trying to play football in their own half and losing possession but
like Stanway in the opening spell the Seasiders failed to finish off the chances
they created in the final 15 minutes.
Saturday 24th August 2002
- Jewson League First Division
March Town United 4, Felixstowe & Walton United 1,
(3-0)
Team: Ross Charters, Carl Gibbs
(Karl Knights 17), Paul Ager, Simon Daniels, Trevor Bygate (Chris Kyle 64), Dean
Sadler, Paul Berry, Nicky Barker, Robbie Fuller, Ismail Etti, Leon Wiggins
(Michael Felgate 53)
This was a game of chances taken and chances not, in this the opening match of
the season.
The Hares took full
opportunity of the openings they created with the Seasiders squandering many in
a first half that opened with promise for the visitors but finished with March
out of sight.
Ismail Etti, Leon Wiggins and Trevor Bygate were all making debuts for the
Seasiders as they started brightly in the sunshine and took the game to the
hosts. March were kept busy clearing their lines with the long ball through to
the Wayte and the experienced Horner in attack. This combination opened the
scoring on 11 mins when the ball broke free to Andy Wayte who beat the advancing
Charters and his shot was steered home by James Horner.
Following a lengthy delay that saw Carl Gibbs stretchered of with a damaged knee
McKenzie went close after some slack defending.
Simon Daniels went close from a Leon Wiggins corner and Fuller headed wide as
Felixstowe
kept the
pressure on the home goal and after four successive corner the visitors had the
ball in the net only to be ruled off side. Skipworth in the March goal was
somewhat bizarrely cautioned for changing his shirt for one of a different
colour to that on the team sheet.
Charters saved well from McKenzie's free kick at the expense of a corner but the
resulting kick was not effectively cleared and Andy Wayte
hammered home the second goal.
Robbie Fuller broke through the home defence three minutes later but Skipworth
was quickly off his line to smother the danger.
The game was put beyond reach just before the break with
Andy Wayte scoring his second with a looping shot from distance. Fuller
again went close on the stroke of half time heading fractionally wide from
Berry's cross.
After the interval Fuller and Etti continued to create openings without
finishing clinically enough and it was March who extended their lead with
Scott McKenzie firing home on 52 minutes from the
edge of the area.
Fuller looped an effort over the bar from 2 yards and headed wide from
close range following a good run from Berry before Paul
Berry hammered home a consolation when he latched onto Fuller's pass on
71 minutes. A second would have set up an exciting end to the game but despite
playing some neat football the finishing touch evaded the Seasiders to
give the home side a deserved victory.
