Saturday 7th
May -
Ridgeons League Division One
Fakenham Town 2 - 2 Felixstowe & Walton United (2-0)
Team: Kai Algar, Andy
Leeson (Parry),
Graham Stiff, Nicky Barker, Adam Pickering, Michael Beddoes, Michael Felgate (Burton),
Matt Morgan, Tom Irving, Liam Hunn, Shaun Pugh
The Seasiders travelled to Clipbush Park for
the final fixture of the season and despite
being
two goals down at the break will have been disappointed not to have claimed all
three points.
Goals from Haynes and Knowles
for the home side in the final fifteen minutes before the interval gave a
slightly false picture following an even first half that saw Morgan and Pugh
both go narrowly wide for the visitors.
Felixstowe controlled the second half with Hunn and
Morgan levelling the score but resolute defending
from the ghosts denied the Seasiders a winner.
Sunshine and heavy showers for the final fixture of the season with the
Seasiders showing just the one change, Leeson replacing Rogowski, from last
Saturday's win over Ely city.

A bright opening spell in which corners were won at both ends of the field saw
Haynes shoot wide for the Ghosts and Irving have a shot blocked at the expense
of a corner. With the Seasiders holding the upper hand in the opening period
Morgan went closest to opening the scoring heading narrowly wide as he followed
up on Beddoes' blocked shot on 25 minutes.
The home side looked dangerous on the break and Fenwick's telling pass into the
Felixstowe area was neatly steered home by Nick Haynes
past Algar's right hand on 29 minutes. The home side's confidence grew as they
enjoyed their best spell of the game and Critenn's long ball from left to right
enabled Craig Knowles to run in behind the
Felixstowe defence and slide home the second goal. Critten struck the bar from
distance as the Seasiders struggled to get back on the front foot and Algar
saved well from Haynes with Knowles firing the rebound over the bar.
Felixstowe emerged from the half time break in
determined mood, immediately exerting pressure on the home defence.
Liam Hunn pulled a goal back three minutes from the
restart
with a
diving header from Irving's corner. Irving's shot on the turn was blocked by
King, who had an excellent game in defence for the Ghosts, with Pugh seeing a
shot blocked and Jackson making a good save as the Seaiders went in search of
the equaliser.
With sixteen minutes remaining the sides were level when
Matt Morgan headed home and he was close to a second shortly after from
Stiff's cross from the left.
Belton's shot from distance flew narrowly over the Felixstowe bar as Fakenham
looked to relieve the pressure on their defence. Top goal scorer Liam Hunn
looked odds-on to claim the winner with moments to go before King once again
produced an important tackle and secure a draw.
An entertaining game to finish the season and with four points from the last two games for the Seasiders, plenty to build on for next season.
Saturday 30th April - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 2 - 0 Cornard United (0-0)
Team: Kai Algar, Chris
Rogowski (Parry),
Graham Stiff, Nicky Barker, Adam Pickering, Michael Beddoes, Michael Felgate (Burton),
Matt Morgan, Tom Irving, Liam Hunn, Shaun Pugh
The
Felixstowe faithful were rewarded for their patience with the Seasiders first
home win since November. An entertaining and evenly contested first half saw
honours even at the break and with Felixstowe stepping up the pace in the second
half they deservedly went ahead through Tommy Irving's
header on 68 minutes.
Michael Beddoes' strike from the edge of the area
confirmed the win with the Seasiders comfortably controlling the second period.
Team captain
Nicky Barker returned as the Seasiders looked to impress in their final home
game of the season and made a bright start in the warm sunshine. With less than
a minute on the watch Felgate went close to scoring as Pugh's cross from the
left flew dangerously across the visitors six yard area. Pugh had an excellent
game wide on the left with Felgate again close to converting a Pugh cross as
Felixstowe grew with confidence.
Pickering headed over the Cornard bar from Barker's free kick before Wiffen
created the visitors best opening of the half on 20 minutes. Wiffen looked
dangerous throughout and his run and pass opened the Felixstowe defence with a
Curtis goal looked a formality before Algar saved with his feet. Featherstone
headed wide following a corner as Cornard enjoyed their best spell of the game
with Owers and Bethel at the heart of their attacking play.
Hunn's cross, or was it a shot, struck the visitors cross-bar with Pengelli
beaten and shortly after Felixstowe's leading scorer had the ball in the net
from Stiff's free kick but the effort was ruled out for off-side.
Felixstowe's determination increased after the break
and it took a good clearance from Owen at the expense of a corner to deny Pugh
who had stolen in at the far post to head the ball on target. Morgan headed wide
from Irving's corner as the pressure increased on the visitors goal.
The Seasiders were playing with great spirit and purpose with reward coming in
the 68th minute as Tom Irving met Rogowski's deep
cross from the right to head past Pengelli's outstretched left hand. Wiffen,
Davis and Bethell probed for the visitors but were well marshalled by Stiff,
Pickering and Barker. Felgate and Beddoes worked tirelessly in midfield with
Morgan linking well with Hunn and Irving.
Felixstowe continued to press forward with Michael Beddoes
79th minutes strike from the edge of the area confirming a deserved and
much needed win.
Saturday 23rd April - Ridgeons League Division One
Ely City 2 - 1 Felixstowe & Walton United (0-0)
Team: Kai Algar, Andy Leeson,
Graham Stiff, Michael Beddoes, Adam Pickering, Michael Felgate (Burton), Gavin Evans
(Ellwood), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Shaun Pugh
Kai Algar,
making his League debut for the Seasiders, produced fine saves to deny Chatters
and Maccullum in a much improved Felixstowe performance. Pickering, wearing the
Captains arm band, marshalled his defence well and the sides were level at the
break.
Chatters broke the deadlock six minutes after the
interval and Warren headed home the second
with twenty minutes remaining.
Liam Hunn, brought down in the area, converted the
resulting penalty to set up an exciting final ten minutes with the Robins
holding on to confirm the win.
Barker returning from injury was
named on the bench and with Kyle injured Adam Pickering took the arm band and
looked every inch the Captain.
An early free kick saw Pickering go close at the far post and Algar made his
first save with his legs to deny the dangerous Chatters following a good run and
cross from Moye.
Andy Leeson impressed again in defence and was on hand to turn Mason's goal bound
shot away for a corner as the game started brightly.
The match turned into a midfield battle with keepers rarely troubled until Evans
pressured Follen in the home goal to save as half time drew close. Felixstowe
enjoyed a good attacking spell before the break but failed to test Follen again
and it was Mason who went closest to scoring for the home side but pulled his
shot across Algar's goal following a long clearance from the home keeper.
Algar produced an excellent save two minutes
into the second period, diving full length to his right to turn Maccallun's shot
away. Ely's top goal scorer
Andrew
Chatters, who could have gone on to make a hat trick, escaped the off
side trap on 51 minutes to round Algar and stroke the ball home. Felixstowe
continued to probe through Irving and Hunn and the two combined before Brown
cleared the ball of Irving's boot as he was about to shoot.
Chatters continued to look the match winner and on 69 minutes his free kick was
met by the head of Simon Warren to head powerfully
home for the Robin's second.
Pugh, Evans and substitute Burton used their pace down the wings but the final
ball in was dealt with comfortably by the Ely defence until Hunn was bundled
over in the area with ten minutes remaining. Liam Hunn
got to his feet and fired the spot kick home low to Follen's right. With
increased belief within the Felixstowe side they pressed in search of an
equaliser, but Ely held on to claim all three points.
Wednesday 20th
April - Ridgeons League Division One
Stanway Rovers 3 - 0 Felixstowe & Walton United (2-0)
Team: Steven Pitts, Chris
Rogowski (Ellwood), Graham Stiff, Andy Leeson, Adam Pickering, Chris Kyle ((Entwistle), Gavin Evans, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving,
Michael Beddoes (Burton)
Only saves from Pitt's and good defending under pressure from Leeson,
Pickering and Stiff in the face of one way traffic restricted the Rovers to a
two goal interval lead. Witney opened the scoring
on 19 minutes when he outpaced the visiting defence to slot the ball home under
the diving Pitts and when Curtis headed home
unchallenged Saunder's corner on the half hour it looked a question of how many.
Felixstowe's cause was not helped by the loss of Captain Chris Kyle on 15
minutes and shortly after Tom Irving, both retiring through injury to be
replaced by Entwistle and Burton.
It was shortly after Kyle left the field that Witney
found space behind the visiting defence to run on unchallenged and shoot low to
Pitt's left. Enwistle blocked a shot from Witney following Howard's cross and
Pitts made a good save to deny Jones before Curtis
added the second. Stanway continued to dominate and Pitts made another fine save
from Witney following Jones cross as the interval approached.
Half time broke the Rover's stride and with Felixstowe increasing their
work rate and restricting Stanway's time on the ball the game became a more even
encounter. Evans went closest to pulling a goal
back when he struck a post direct from a corner but Stanway finished the
game on top with Witney scoring his second with
four minutes remaining. Matt Morgan met Beddoe's
corner kick but his well timed header struck the foot of a post in the final
minute and there was to be no consolation goal.
Saturday 16th April - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 1 - 2 Haverhill Rovers (1-1)
Team: Steven Pitts, Chris
Rogowski (Etti), Graham Stiff, Andy Leeson, Adam Pickering, Chris Kyle, Gavin Evans, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving,
Michael Beddoes
Brandt's goal five minutes from time ensured Rovers remain in the running
for a promotion place with the Seasiders unfortunate not to gain any reward from
their
battling performance.
Morgan's header from Irving's cross on 32 minutes
had given the home side the lead before Hunt
equalised deep into first half stoppage time. Felixstowe belied their lowly
league position creating a number of scoring opportunities and looked like
gaining at least a point before Brandt struck.
Felixstowe started brightly as Haverhill took time to get into their stride with
Green having the first clear opportunity for the visitors on eight minutes but
he shot over the bar when well placed following good build up play from David. A
good run and shot from David was turned away for a corner by the home keeper
Pitts as Haverhill built strongly. Hunn disappointingly put his shot over the
bar and placed a header over the bar following Evan's run and precise cross from
the right as Felixstowe broke quickly.
There was a lengthy stoppage as Cogger was stretchered off with ligament damage,
to be replaced by Brandt.
Rovers were enjoying plenty of possession but Felixstowe attacked in numbers
when
they
broke and on 32 minutes Matt Morgan met Tom
Irving's cross to head home the opening goal. Felixstowe looked to press home
their advantage with Pilcher hurriedly heading Stiff's cross over the bar at the
expense of a corner and Pickering, working hard in midfield ,shooting over the
Haverhill cross bar. Captain Chris Kyle marshalled his troop well in defence
with Leeson, Stiff and Rogowski looking secure until Green ran through the
back line only to see his shot saved well by Pitts. A minute later Green again
broke through but this time squared the ball for Adie Hunt
to stroke the ball home.
Hunn headed over from Evan's cross shortly after the
break and Kyle saw his header saved by Fletcher following Irving's cross as
Felixstowe continued to impress as an attacking force. Aware that time was
slipping away Haverhill pressed forward with Stiff making an excellent tackle to
deny the hard running Hunt. Mark Brandt kept
Haverhill's promotion challenge alive five minutes from time scoring from close
range following Green's in swinging corner kick from the right. Rovers survived
a nervous last five minutes with Lowen clearing off the line with Fletcher
beaten after Etti went close to equalising.
A relieved Haverhill will be pleased with three points from a game in which they
were not on top form, and Felixstowe will be encouraged by their performance against
one of the stronger sides in the division.

Tuesday 12th April - Harwich Charity Cup
Felixstowe & Walton United 0 - 3 Long Melford (0-1)
Team: Kai Algar, Lee
Parry, Graham Stiff, Jack Entwistle (Leeson), Chris Kyle, Michael Felgate (Beddoes), Gavin Evans, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving,
Ismail Etti (RoGowski)
Two goals from kemp and a third from
Metson saw Long Melford through to the semi-finals
of the Harwich Charity Cup at Dellwood Avenue this evening.
Kai Algar made a
reflex save to deny Gooderham from close range and Kemp
struck a post before giving the visitors a first half lead with a well struck
volley.
Kemp shot wide after a surging run after the break with the visitors winning a
number of corners which Stiff and Kyle dealt with well. Atthey was rarely
troubled but saved well well to deny Hunn's crisp shot at the expense of a
corner.
On eighty minutes Kemp scored his second with a
well taken headed goal with substitute Metson
finishing the game in style with a solo run and shot in injury time to confirm
Long Melford's place in the semi-final.
Saturday 9th April - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 0 - 3 Walsham-le-Willows (0-1)
Team: Steven Pitts, Lee
Parry (Leeson), Graham Stiff, Nicky Barker (Felgate), Adam Pickering,
Chris Kyle, Gavin Evans, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving (Entwistle), Michael Beddoes
Mustoe, in the visitors goal, was under early pressure with the Seasiders
starting the game positively, but a defensive lapse allowed
Deeks a sight on goal which he took after six
minutes to put Walsham ahead.
Felixstowe continued to create openings and looked more than capable of gaining
something from the game until Deeks scored his
second on 72 minutes. The visitors gained confidence with
Partridge scoring directly from a corner seven minutes from time to
confirm the win.
The two previous meetings this season had seen Walsham score four goals in each
game and the Seasiders were determined from the start to make this game the most
difficult yet for the visitors. This they achieved until the second goal
effectively won the game for Walsham.
Early corners exposed hesitancy in the Walsham defence with Mustoe blocking a
short range shot and the ball was uncomfortably scrambled away. Against the
early run of play Walsham broke and slack defending allowed the ever dangerous
Carl Deeks to turn and shoot past Pitts in the home
goal. Evans impressed with his sped down the right for Felixstowe but too often
his crosses were comfortably claimed by Mustoe. On eleven minutes Evan's cross
found Hunn with Mustoe saving with his legs to deny Felixstowe's top goal
scorer. Newman reacted instinctively to deny Pickering's downward header at the
expense of a corner as the Seasiders enjoyed their best spell of the game.
Folkard headed wide from Bank's long throw and Deeks shot tamely at Pitts when
well placed but at the break the game was evenly poised.
Hunn's dangerous shot across the Walsham goal,
following good build up play from Irving, was deflected for a corner as the
Seasiders searched for an equaliser but
gradually the visitors gained the ascendancy. Newman made a positive run forward
and was one on one with the keeper before Pitts saved well with his feet to keep
the home side in the game.
Felixstowe continued to threaten the Walsham goal until
Carl Deeks scored his second goal on 72 minutes. The Seasiders cleared a
corner but surrendered the ball in midfield and when the long return pass found
Deeks, looking suspiciously offside, he raced on to slide the ball under the
advancing Pitts.
Walsham now looked to press home their advantage and
Richard Partridge's in-swinging corner ten minutes later found it's way
into the net to confirm the points.
The Seasiders had worked hard throughout to ensure this was no easy win for
Walsham and an early goal when opportunity arose could have made all the
difference.
Saturday 2nd April - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 0 - 1 Downham Town (0-0)
Team: Steven Pitts, Jack
Entwistle (Parry), Graham Stiff (Etti), Nicky Barker (Morgan), Adam Pickering,
Chris Kyle, Gavin Evans, Michael Beddoes, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Shaun Pugh
A headed goal by Hedges from Wren's free
kick with seven minutes remaining saw the visitors complete a league double over
the Seasiders on a sunny afternoon at Dellwood Avenue.
Both sides created a number of scoring opportunities with Downham hitting the
woodwork twice and Marshall saving Evan's shot to deny Felixstowe's best effort
on goal in the second half.
The
Seasiders welcomed back Ismail Etti following his recent transfer from Leiston.
A lively start to the game in bright sunshine with Wren for the visitors and
Pugh for Felixstowe showing pace on the ball in the early stages. Sainty forced
the first corner of the game on five minutes and Barker's cross for the
Seasiders was narrowly missed from close range by Hunn as attacks were developed
by both teams.
Wren struck the home cross-bar after Pitts parried Sainty's deep cross but the
majority of the first half possession was gained by the seasiders, without
putting undue pressure on Marshall in the Downham goal. Irving held the ball up
well on the right to enable Barker to produce a telling cross but Hunn's header
did not test Marshall and went wide of the target.
The game needed a goal but at the break it was all square.
Evans saw an increasing amount of ball down the right
in the second half but for one good save from Marshall failed to capitalise on
the openings his speed created.
Pugh saw his shot go into the side
netting on 55minutes and Evans blasted wide shortly after following Stiff's deep
cross as the goal attempts mounted. Claydon cleared off the line from Hunn after
Irving had produced the opening and Pickering fired over the bar from the edge
of the area.
Kavnagh looked the class act for the visitors and continued to create openings
and it was no surprise when they claimed all three points with seven minutes
remaining.
A free kick on the left of the Felixstowe area was taken by Wren and
Matt Hedges rose above the rest to head home the
only goal of the game.
The Downham defence survived a late flurry of corners and a goal mouth scramble
to head for home with all three points.
Special thanks to Referee Lionel Scutcher who stepped in to accept the appointment on the morning of the game.
Tuesday
29th March - Ridgeons League Division One
Ipswich Wanderers 2 - 1
Felixstowe & Walton United (1-0)
Team: Steven Pitts, Jack
Entwistle (Stiff), Chris Kyle, Nicky Barker, Adam Pickering,
Andy Leeson, Michael Beddoes, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Shaun Pugh
If Wanderers go on to lift the title at the end of the season they will
surely remember the large slice of good fortune that went their way in this
local derby.
Hurd's goal on ten minutes was just reward for a
first half that the home side edged but they were pressed onto the back foot
after the break. Hunn d
eservedly
drew the Seasiders level after Stannard had initially saved his penalty on 66
minutes. Pugh's run and shot past the keeper from close range looked to have
given the visitors a deserved lead but an Assistant's flag was raised against
another Felixstowe attacker in the six yard area. Still the visitors poured
forward and against the run of play with ninety minutes on the watch the
Wanderers were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area and
Westren pounced on the loose ball to head home the
winner.
This was cruel luck for the Seasiders who fought bravely in the second half. We
are no strangers to defeat but this was hard to take.
Pitts was quickly off his line to deny Tournay-Godfrey
as the Wanderers started brightly with a deep ball from Barker to Evans posing
the first threat on the home goal before Buck cleared the danger. The opening
goal came on ten minutes when Wanderers
worked the ball down the right flank and Jorell Hurd
capitalised on the space he was permitted to fire the ball hard and true inside
Pitt's near post.
The home side continued to press but Pickering was shadowing Swann effectively
and with Leeson tackling well to deny Hurd clear scoring opportunities were kept
to a minimum. Felixstowe looked dangerous on the break with Stannard saving well
to deny Irving at the angle of bar and post following good interplay with
Beddoes.
Felixstowe finished the half strongly with Pickering's goal bound shot blocked
following Barker's corner.
After the break the home defence was put under
sustained pressure by a tenacious Felixstowe side who sensed they could gain
something from the game. On 66 minutes Liam Hunn
was bundled over in the area by Goldfinch, who received a caution, and Hunn
himself stepped up to take the spot kick. Stannard guessed correctly and made a
fine
save but the
alert Hunn followed up to hammer home the rebound.
Wanderers were reduced to ten men when Goldfinch received a second caution for
an innocuous challenge in a game that was played in good spirit throughout. The
league leaders now looked to be hanging on with the Seasiders hunting for the
winner and when Pugh intercepted a poor defensive clearance he had only one
thought in his mind and that was the goal, Having sprinted into the six yard
area he fired home past Stannard to the cheers of the travelling fans. It was a
while before the Assistants flag was spotted, raised for offside against another
Felixstowe player in front of the ball, We could argue all night about active
play - but it was cruel luck.
Kyle thundered the ball wide from Barker's corner kick as it remained Felixstowe on the offensive, before Wanderers broke and gained a free kick on the right of the Felixstowe area with seconds remaining. The driven kick bounced around the danger area until Paul Westren headed home the loose ball to claim all three points for a relieved Wanderers who remain on top of the League.
Saturday 26th March - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 0- 1 Saffron Walden Town (0-1)
Team: Steven Pitts, Lee
Parry, Graham Stiff (Pugh), Nicky Barker, Adam Pickering,
Chris Kyle, Michael Felgate (Evans), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving,
Michael Beddoes
Saffron Walden completed a league double over the Seasiders thanks to a
12th minute goal from Sean Anderson. The home side
created a number of opportunities to equalise
with Hunn, Morgan and Evans all
going close in the closing minutes of the game but the Essex sides' resolve held
to claim all three points.
Lee Parry, a late replacement for Andy Leeson who failed a last minute fitness
test, was the only change from last Saturday's starting line up.
The visitors made a positive start and were rewarded after twelve minutes when
Smith's deep cross was well met by the head of Green with Pitt's diving save
pushing the ball out as far as Sean Anderson who
hammered the ball home from six yards.
More goals looked likely as the Felixstowe defence came under pressure before
the Seasiders had their best spell beginning on the half hour. Barker increased
his influence on the game with Harvey getting finger tips to the Felixstowe
Captain's corner kick to prevent it dipping under the bar. Hunn, Irving and
Beddoes all saw shots blocked as Clarke and Ryan stood firm in the heart of the
visiting defence to maintain the lead to
the interval.
Neither keeper was tested after the break until the
hour mark when Pitts made a fine save to deny Riches following a telling pass
from Dac. The game opened up in the last quarter with Hunn turning well and his
shot was blocked for a corner while at the other end Strong fired over the
Felixstowe bar following a swift attacking move.
Substitute Evans made his speed tell down the right but shot wide having created
the space for a shot. In the final stages Felixstowe increased the pressure with
the visitors defending in depth as Morgan had a header cleared off the line and
Hunn's shot on the turn went agonisingly close for the home side.
The visitors withstood the late pressure to claim all three points and move to
within a point of the Seasiders.
Saturday 19th March - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 1 - 1 Godmanchester Rovers (1-0)
Team:
Lawrence Leggett, Andy Leeson, Graham Stiff, Nicky Barker (Pugh), Adam Pickering,
Chris Kyle, Michael Felgate, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving,
Michael Beddoes
Substitute Howard Kemp gained a late point
for Goddy after the Seasiders had held the lead from
the fourth minute.
Liam Hunn seized on a defensive mistake to stroke
the ball into an unguarded net to open the scoring
but the home side failed to press home their advantage. If the visitors had
shown greater composure in front of goal they would have been ahead at the break
but the second period saw Goddy on the back foot with Armitage making a number
of saves to deny Felixstowe increasing their lead. With time running down
Kemp found space on the right to loop a shot from
distance over the advanced Leggett in the home goal. Few would have denied Goddy
a share of the spoils on their first half performance.
The visitors made a bright start on a warm an sunny afternoon forcing two early
corners
which
were comfortably dealt with by Leggett in the home goal. A long ball forward
from Felixstowe appeared harmless until Blake and keeper Armitage showed
uncertainty on the edge of the area allowing Liam Hunn to poach the ball and
then run the ball unchallenged into the empty net.
Full credit to Godmanchester in bouncing back from this early disappointment as
they continued to play neat passing football, creating a number of scoring
opportunities in the first half. Peacock missed an excellent chance from
Churchill's telling pass into the Felixstowe and area and Churchill
produced
another defence splitting ball only this time it was Brown who was profligate as
he skied his shot over the bar. Leggett saved well to deny Brown who had only
the home keeper to beat as the lack of confidence in the Goddy attack was
exposed.
Hunn continued to pose problems for the visiting defence and Irving fired into
the side netting but it was the visitors who were ruing missed chances at the
break.
The tables were turned after the interval with
Godmanchester defending in depth to deny Felixstowe as Morgan and Pickering both
headed just wide from Barker free kicks. Irving looked increasingly dangerous
and after his shot was well saved by Armitage the ball ran to Barker who's
blistering goal bound drive was deflected over the Goddy crossbar off the head
of Churchill.
Despite the pressure one goal is never enough and with four minutes remaining
Howard Kemp lifted the spirits of the visitors as
he confidently placed a dipping volley over the advancing Leggett.
Kyle went close in injury as he met Stiff's free kick but honours remained even
at the final whistle.
Tuesday 15th March - Ridgeons League Division One k.o. Cup
Needham Market 1 - 0 Felixstowe & Walton United (1-0)
Team:
Steven Pitts, Lee Parry Rogowski), Graham Stiff, Nicky Barker, Adam Pickering,
Chris Kyle, Michael Felgate (Evans), Matt Morgan, Shaun Pugh, Tom Irving,
Michael Beddoes (Burton)
Despite territorial superiority, during the first half, determined
defending restricted Needham's scoring opportunities with
Joppling's 19th minute strike, following a good interchange with Townes,
separating the sides at the break.
A spirited and competitive second half performance from the Seasiders resulted
in the busy Pugh and Irving creating chances with Pickering heading over the
Needham bar from a Barker free kick as the home side were put increasingly under
pressure.
Pitts saved well to deny Needham's Mann and Jopling with Fenn down sharply to
deny Irving the equaliser that Felixstowe's second half performance deserved.
Saturday 12th March - Ridgeons League Division One
Long Melford 1 - 2 Felixstowe & Walton United (1-1)
Team:
Steven Pitts, Andy Leeson (Pugh), Graham Stiff, Nicky Barker, Adam Pickering,
Chris Kyle, Michael Felgate, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving (Beddoes), Jack
Entwistle (Evans)
The Seasiders bounced back from their mid-week Cup defeat to record a
third win at Soneylands this season. An evenly contested but scrappy game was
settled five minutes from time when Shaun Pugh
pocketed the points for the visitors when a draw looked the most likely outcome.
Liam Hunn had opened the scoring for Felixstowe on
27 minutes with Carl Metson equalising for the home
side seven minutes later.
Following
wins in the Suffolk Senior Cup and First Division K.O. Cup at Long Melford the
seasiders completed their hat-trick with a win in the league this afternoon.
After defeat in the Suffolk Senior Cup on Wednesday it was important that
Felixstowe produced a positive performance and they certainly enjoyed their
share of possession in a stop-start game that saw scoring opportunities created
by both sides but with flowing football at a premium.
Barker encouraged Felixstowe forward as they made a bright start with Hunn and
Irving linking well before Kyle reacted quickly to deny Irvine at the expense of
a corner as Long Melford developed a dangerous attack.
Liam Hunn scored the opening goal on 27 minutes as Morgan produced a
telling pass from midfield for the Seasiders leading goalscorer to run on and
drill the ball under the advancing Marlow.
Seven minutes later it was all square when the ball ran loose to
Carl Metson who made no mistake from the edge of
the area with a powerful shot to Pitts' right.
Strong runs from Hunn and Irving before the interval failed to find a finish and
the sides were level at the break.
Marlow failed to hold Barker's deep free kick after the interval with Morgan
reacting first to the loose ball but firing over the bar. There was little to
warm the spectators in the second half and the game looked to be drifting to a
draw until Shaun Pugh, on as a substitute, fought
his way forward and fired a angled ball into the danger area which cannoned of
Marlow into the home goal.
The home side won a succession of corners as they looked to salvage a point but
the Seasiders held for a confidence boosting win.
Wednesday 9th March -
Suffolk Senior Cup semi-final
@ Hadleigh
Walsham-le-Willows 4 - 0 Felixstowe & Walton United (2-0)
Team: Lawrence
Leggett, Andy Leeson, Graham Stiff (Rogowski), Nicky Barker, Adam Pickering,
Chris Kyle, Michael Beddoes (Entwistle), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Shaun Pugh
(Burton)
Dominating the game from first to last Walsham deservedly progressed to the
final at Portman Road on Thursday 5th May where they will play Needham Market.
Deeks opened the scoring after 32 minutes scoring
from an acute angle and Partridge doubled the lead
three minutes before the interval.
Nozedar headed home the third on 67 minutes and the
unfortunate Leeson, under pressure from Bloomfield, netted the fourth to
complete a comfortable victory for Walsham.
On an excellent playing surface Walsham passed the ball accurately and at speed
putting pressure on the Felixstowe defence and forcing them to defend deeper
than they would have wished. Despite the Seasiders having difficulty advancing
out their own half they restricted Walsham to long range shots, which did not
trouble keeper Leggett, for the first half hour.
When Carl Deeks found space and advanced down the
right his opportunity looked to have been lost when Leggett stood up well and
forced him wide, but the dangerous forward found a gap at the near post and
drove his shot home from an acute angle.
Felixstowe's most penetrative attack of the half came straight from the restart
with Walsham's keeper Mustoe claiming the ball off the head of Hunn from
Irving's telling cross.
Three minutes before the break a midfield ball to the edge of the Felixstowe
area saw Richard Partridge the first to react and
he drove the ball home from 18 yards.
After the break Walsham's dominance continued with
only sporadic attacks from the Seasiders and Mustoe claimed Hunns cross well to
end the Seasiders best attack of the half. Paul Nozedar
rose unchallenged to head home Partridges corner on 67 minutes with the
unfortunate Andy Leeson getting the final touch to the fourth under pressure
from Bloomfield two minutes from time to record Walsham's fourth.
We wish Walsham-le-Willows success in the final and thank Hadleigh United for
being excellent hosts this evening.
Saturday 19th
February - Ridgeons League Division One
Thetford Town 0 - 1 Felixstowe & Walton United (0-0)
Team: Lawrence
Leggett, Lee Parry, Chris Kyle, Nicky Barker, Adam Pickering, Michael Felgate (Stiff),
Gavin Evans (Burton), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Shaun Pugh
With ninety seconds remaining and the game
heading for a goalless draw Shaun Pugh drifted in
at the far post to head home Barker's cross and snatch all three points for the
Seasiders.
It was
hard luck on the home side who were left to rue missed chances and reflect on a
number of fine saves from Leggett as Felixstowe recorded their first win in nine
league games.
Winning the toss Thetford chose wind advantage and gained an early corner as
Kyle headed away Smith's free kick from the right. Crawshaw was first to Fowlers
corner kick but saw his header rise over the Felixstowe bar. Hunn's free kick
was narrowly wide of a post as Felixstowe responded but Leggett was the busier
of the two keeper's saving from Taylor and then pleased to Fowler's shot strike
a post. Almond sliced through the Seasider's defence only to be denied by
Leggett and Hlezeck's volley was acrobatically saved by Leggett diving low to
his left as Thetford searched in vain for the opener.
Hunn and Irving linked well in attack with Morgan and Barker prompting through
the midfield and a well constructed move was thwarted by Ziofel at the expense
of a corner as the interval approached with the sides all square.
The game flowed from end to end in the second period
with Pickering and Kyle continuing to snub out any threat from the busy Smith
and Hlezeck. With the wind to their backs
Pugh and Evans made ground down the flanks with the home keeper Snowden seeing
more of the ball and well placed to collect Irving's headed effort from Barker's
corner.
Leggett came close to scoring when his wind assisted clearance nearly deceived
Thetford keeper Snowdon as he back peddled to palm the ball over the bar.
Leggett produced another fine save to deny Almond and with the final whistle
approaching a goalless draw looked the favourite outcome until Pugh struck.
Having hit a post on 75 minutes from Barker's cross from the right the same
pairing combined again, with less than two minute remaining on the watch, and
this time Shaun Pugh's header found the back of the
net.
Tough luck on the home side with the Seasiders happy to record their first
league win in 2005.
Tuesday 15th February - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 1 - 3 Long Melford (0-1)
Team: Lawrence Leggett, Andy Leeson (Parry), Chris Kyle, Nicky Barker, Adam Pickering,
Jack Entwistle,
Michael Felgate (Evans), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Shaun Pugh (Rogowski)
Long Melford edged the first half with a single deflected goal from
Jones separating the sides at the interval. The
visitors dominated the second half with Kemp
extending the lead before the hardworking Irving
pulled a goal back for the Seasiders. Battell
struck on seventy minutes to confirm the win for the better side on the night.

With Barber and Stiff injured and Ryan Hunn unavailable, Andy Leeson and Jack
Entwistle made their first starts for the team with Chris Kyle returning from
injury.
Both sides gave possession away cheaply in the opening half providing an end to
game which saw Smith header over the Felixstowe bar in the first minute and
Irving have a shot blocked following a flowing move involving Leeson, Barker and
Pugh.
Leggett recovered well to save from Pratt after a long ball from defence
enabled Jones to advance on the Felixstowe goal. Pugh looked dangerous and only
a last ditch tackle
prevented
a strike on goal after he had outpaced the visiting defence with the interval
approaching. In injury time the deadlock was broken when
Andy Jones' strike from twelve yards was deflected past the stranded
Leggett.
Four minutes after the restart the lead was double
when Adam Kemp was found with a neat ball out to
the right and he volleyed the ball over the advancing Leggett into the goal.
Six minutes later Tom Irving pulled a goal back as
he stabbed home the loose ball from six yards following a well flighted cross
into the Long Melford area from Barker.
Arnold struck a post as Long Melford continued to hold the upper hand and on
seventy minutes Philip Battell confirmed the win
with a well struck goal following a flowing attack.
Saturday 29th January - Ridgeons League Division One
Walsham-le-Willows 4 - 1
Felixstowe & Walton United (1-0)
Team: Lawrence Leggett, Lee Parry, Ryan Hunn, Nicky Barker, Adam Pickering, Graham stiff,
Bradley Barber, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving (Pugh), Michael Felgate (Leeson).
The first ever meeting between the two Clubs resulted in a comfortable
win for the home side as they controlled the game, on a heavy pitch, virtually
from beginning to end.
Liam Hunn looked to have sparked another
second half come-back scoring with 25 minutes remaining, in reply to goals from
Deeks and Wake, but a
second for Deeks and Walsham's fourth from
substitute Nozedar confirmed the win.
With the
dominant figure of Dean Folkard controlling the home defence and the Seasiders
chief playmaker Barber bogged down in midfield the hardworking Irving and Hunn
were forced to live off scraps for most of the game. In contrast Musgrove and
Bloomfield found space down the flanks for Walsham who kept their play simple to
good effect.
Despite their high level of possession the home side failed to exert too much
pressure on Leggett in the Felixstowe goal and having taken an early lead failed
to press home their advantage in the first half.
Carl Deeks seized onto a loose ball on the edge of
the Felixstowe area, following a throw in on the left, to fire the ball home
past Leggett's outstretched left hand to open the scoring on ten minutes. Morgan
and Parry both cleared off the line before Felixstowe made any real impression
after 30 minutes with Felgate's shot blocked and Mustoe, in the home goal,
quickly off his line to deny Hunn as the Seasiders pressed before the interval.
Barber cleared well off the line to deny Musgrove,
after he had met Newman's cross, as the Home side continued to dominate after
the break and on the hour they doubled their
lead. Gaining
the ball in midfield Bloomfield raced forward before passing to Keeble and
Marc Wake converted his cross unchallenged.
Leeson replaced Felgate as Felixstowe urged players forward in search of a reply
and were rewarded with a goal from Liam Hunn as he
pounced on a loose ball in the area following a throw in.
Encouraged, the Seasiders enjoyed their best spell of the game with Irving and
Hunn linking well and they kept the Walsham back line busy without seriously
testing Mustoe in the home goal.
With six minutes remaining Carl Deeks scored his
second as the Felixstowe defence failed to clear the danger at the near post and
the Walsham number ten stabbed home the loose ball. The game was put beyond
doubt moments before the final whistle when substitute
Paul Nozedar ran on unopposed to convert well from the edge of the area.
The Seasiders worked hard but were outplayed on the day and will need to re-group before the teams meet again on March 5th in the Suffolk Senior Cup semi-final.
Saturday 22nd January - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 3 - 3 March Town United (3-2)
Team:
Lawrence Leggett, Chris Rogowski, Graham stiff (Pugh), Nicky Barker, Adam
Pickering, Lee Parry, Michael Felgate (Leeson), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom
Irving, Bradley Barber
League Leaders March Town United earned a point at Dellwood Avenue as
they recovered from two goals down against a hardworking Felixstowe side.
Hunn and Irving had seen the Seasiders take a two goal lead before Brand
and Gachette drew the sides level. Hunn scored his second to secure a half-time
lead for the home side with Hutchcraft equalising again for the Hares with
eighteen minutes remaining to set up an exciting finish to an entertaining game.
Barber returned
following a one game absence and ensured that the league leaders had to work had
to gain any possession in midfield. With both sides basing their game on passing
football an entertaining game was anticipated and so it proved. The first threat
on goal came after eleven minutes when Barber's strike on the visitors goal goal
was blocked with Hunn first to the loose ball and his goal bound effort was
parried for a corner.
The Hares took time to settle into their normal flowing brand of football with
Moyes
shot,
comfortably saved by Leggett, on nineteen minutes posing their first real
threat.
From defence Felixstowe quickly sprang into attack on twenty minutes with
Liam Hunn completing the move to fire the ball home
form 12 yards. The lead was doubled five minutes later when
Tommy Irving reacted first to a defensive slip on
the edge of the March area to calmly drill the ball under the advancing Anker.
Spurred on by Pepper and Petchi the Hares stepped up their game and went in
search of a quick reply with Gachette heading wide before the arrears were
reduced on twenty nine minutes. Following a long pass forward the ever dangerous
Ashley Brand outpaced the home defence and coolly
slid the ball under the advancing Leggett.
Parry blocked
Brand's run seven minutes later and from the resulting corner the sides were
level. Brand took the corner from the left with Hutchcraft flicking the ball on
for Ed Gachette to head home.
The momentum was now with the March but it was Felixstowe who took the lead four
minutes before the interval. Barker's low cross from the right was well left by
Felgate for Liam Hunn to hammer home his second from close range and see the
Seasiders to a deserved half time lead.
Pickering, Barker and Stiff defended well after the break as March built a
number of probing attacks. Brand and Welcher combined down the left with Leggett
saving well to deny Brand. Leggett save well to deny Petchi and then palmed
Pepper's shot onto the bar before the Hares equalised on 77 minutes. Pepper made
a telling run into the area and his pass was turned home by
Chris Hutchcraft.
Both sides went close to claiming the win but after an entertaining and
sporting game the draw was a fair result.
Saturday 15th
January - Ridgeons League Division One
Hadleigh United 3 - 3
Felixstowe & Walton United (2-1)
Team:
Lawrence Leggett, Chris Rogowski, Ryan Hunn, Nicky Barker (Parry), Adam
Pickering, Graham Stiff, Mark Cooper, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving,
Michael Felgate (Evans)
The game never reached the heights of footballing excellence but with
both teams looking to end a run of league defeats there was no shortage of
honest endeavour and goalmouth incident.
With the Seasiders 3-1 down a bizarre own goal on sixty eight minutes gave the
visitors a life line which they happily took to end the game all square and
close to snatching all three points.
Felgate
replaced Barber as the only change to the starting line up from last week as the
Seasiders kicked off on a calm overcast afternoon at Millfield. An early
exchange of corners saw Cracknell's header for the home side blocked and Hunn's
run and shot also blocked at the expense of another corner for the visitors.
Neither team looked comfortable in defence with the home side taking the lead on
14 minutes as Beckett's in-swinging corner kick saw hesitancy in the Felixstowe
area and Stiff diverted the ball into his own goal.
Irving headed narrowly wide at the near post after Morgan had flicked on from
Barker's long throw as the Seasiders built a number of neat attacking moves and
on 28 minutes drew level with the best move of the half. The tenacious Morgan
claimed the ball in midfield and found Irving who held the ball well before
passing wide to Cooper. Cooper hit the buy line and crossed for
Liam Hunn to head home from four yards.
The neater play was coming from Felixstowe but without great penetration and as
the half time whistle approached another corner from Beckett found the defence
wanting and Robert Ford got the final touch to see
Hadleigh lead at the interval.
Felixstowe were quickly in search of a response after
the break but fell further behind when a through ball from Morris reached
Robert Ford to
claim his second goal in fine style from twelve yards. Evans making his first
appearance after transferring from Leiston came on to almost immediate effect
with his cross from the right beating the keeper and striking the bar.
Felixstowe pressed forward but Green at the heart of the home defence dealt
comfortably with the Seasiders pressure until the visitors were given a life
line in the 68th minute. Whitwell in the home goal received a long back pass and
under no apparent pressure miss-kicked the ball which spun back towards goal and
despite Whitwell's efforts it went over the goal line.
The confidence provided by a two goal cushion ebbed away but with Morris making
an excellent last minute tackle to deny Ryan Hunn and a number of goal mouth
clearance the home side looked to be hanging on until Liam
Hunn created space for himself on the edge of the area to run on and
score his second.
Whitwell saved on the line to deny Pickering and Cooper went close as Felixstowe
looked to snatch a winner but that would have been unfair on the hardworking
Hadleigh side who held on for a point.
Saturday
8th January - Suffolk Senior Cup, Quarter Final
AFC Debenham 0 - 3
Felixstowe & Walton United (0-1)
Team:
Lawrence Leggett, Chris Rogowski, Ryan Hunn, Nicky Barker (Hudson), Adam
Pickering, Graham Stiff, Mark Cooper (Fellgate), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn,
Tom Irving, Bradley Barber

A thoroughly professional performance from the
Seasiders saw them progress to the semi-finals against in form SIL Premiership
side AFC Debenham. The Hornets failed to take advantage of the strong wind at
their backs in the first half with Felixstowe, playing the ball on the ground,
taking the lead on 27 minutes following a solo run and shot from
Tom Irving. Felixstowe penned Debenham into their
own half after the break with Liam Hunn scoring
twice to see the Seasiders comfortably through to a semi final tie against
Walsham-le-Willows.
Felixstowe played the ball to feet, prompted by Barber and Barker going forward,
with Pickering and Stiff nullifying the danger of the experienced Yeomans and
Briggs as the
Seasiders
faced a strong wind in the first half. Briggs saw a shot comfortably saved by
Leggett and Briggs also struck a post after Leggett had parried Keeble's effort,
but those two chance apart the home side created few opportunities with the wind
advantage. Felixstowe attacks steadily increased with Irving and Hunn looking
dangerous and when Cooper was upended in the box, as he looked to connect with a
Barker free kick, the home side were fortunate to survive the penalty appeals.
On 27 minutes Felixstowe took the lead through Tom Irving.
Released by a good through ball from Rogowski Irving ran on to fire the ball
under Newman in the home goal.
Felixstowe dominated the second half with Aldis clearing off the line before
Liam Hunn
turned and volleyed home from the edge of the area, following an Irving corner,
on sixty six minutes. A neat passing move between Irving and Hunn saw
Hunn slot
home his second eight minutes later.
Leggett had to wait for the 31st minute for his first touch of half when he saved
from a Bobby Mayes' free kick. Mayes' probing passing saw Debenham press forward
but without threatening the visitors goal as the Seasiders progressed to the
semi-final where they will play Walsham-le-Willows at a neutral venue on
Saturday 5th March.
Many thanks to AFC Debenham for their warm welcome and excellent hospitality.
Monday 3rd
January - Ridgeons League Division One
Needham Market 4 - 1
Felixstowe & Walton United (0-1)
Team:
Lawrence Leggett, Lee Parry, Graham Stiff, Nicky Barker, Adam
Pickering, Bradley Barber, Michael Beddoes (Cooper), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom
Irving, Michael Fellgate (Rogowski)
Three goals in
three second half minutes turned the game around for the home side after the
Seasiders had deservedly held the lead at the interval. A
Francis free kick arrowed into the visitors goal on 56 minutes levelled
Hunn's opener, scored in the fifth minute of the
game, and was quickly followed by a brace from Simon Mann
to see Needham back into second place in the league table. Felixstowe pressed
strongly for a reply before Hendersons's firm cross deflected off a defender for
the fourth to put the result beyond doubt.
Two changes to the Felixstowe line up from last Monday's game with Micky
Fellgate starting in place of the absent Ryan Hunn and Graham Stiff for the
injured Chris Kyle.
Needham's game last Monday had been frozen off and they looked a little ring
rusty as the Seasiders enjoyed early pressure with Fenn diving late to push
Barber's shot for a corner in the third minute.
Subsequent corners followed before the ball was crossed into the area by Barker
for
Liam Hunn to head home the opener wide of Fenn's
right hand. Barber, Irving and Morgan roamed freely during the opening period
with Morgan coming close to increasing the lead and Irving's well place shot
defeating Fenn before a combination of Boyland and a post came to the keeper's
aid.
Steadily the home side gained a foot-hold with Jopling's volley producing an
excellent save from Leggett in the visiting goal and Francis and Crawford both
going close.
Pickering and Barker, at the heart of the Felixstowe defence, came under
increasing pressure as the half drew to a close with Beddoes clearing off the
line to deny Townes, but on balance the visitors deserved the interval lead.
The second
half, in contrast, started with the Seasiders on the back foot with Leggett
saving well once again, this time from Mann, to keep his side ahead. When
Jopling headed wide, when unmarked at the far post, from Mann's deep cross you
began to wonder if this was to Felixstowe's day, but this was to be quickly
dispelled in three short minutes.
Morgan fouled Morsley on the edge of the area with Mark
Francis spotting a gap at the near post to fire home the equaliser on 56
minutes and before the usually resolute Felixstowe defenders had time to compose
themselves a long ball forward was met by Simon Mann
to steer the ball past the stranded Leggett. From the restart Felixstowe pressed
forward and Fenn's long kick once again found the defence all at sea for
Simon Mann to fire home his second.
Merchant blocked Hunn's shot at the expense of a corner as Felixstowe went in
search of a quick reply before Needham survived a strong shout for hand ball in
the area. Stiff headed over from Barber's corner before the result was put
beyond doubt in the 82nd minute. Substitutes Dale and Henderson combined well
down the left with Henderson's low driven cross turned into the net by the
unfortunate Stiff.
Fenn saved from Barber and Irving was close with a shot from distance but the
honours went to Needham Market and deservedly so on their second half
performance.
Monday 27th
December - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 0 - 1 Ipswich Wanderers (0-0)
Team:
Lawrence Leggett, Lee Parry (Pugh), Chris Kyle, Nicky Barker (Fellgate), Adam
Pickering, Bradley Barber, Michael Beddoes (Cooper), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom
Irving, Ryan Hunn
Thanks to the co-operation of the Referee and Ipswich Wanderers the match
kicked off at mid-day, an hour later than advertised, giving the sun time to
de-frost the pitch and the local derby to go ahead in front of a sizeable and
patient crowd.
The only goal
of the game, which was short on goal mouth action, came three minutes after the
interval when Swann's run and cross was met by Felixstowe's Kyle, under pressure
from Barker, and his touch diverted the ball into the net.
Wanderers controlled the match without threatening to increase their advantage
as the Seasiders were defeated 1-0 for the third consecutive game.
Referee Mr Potkins gave the game every chance of going ahead with the one hour
delay enabling the pitch to thaw and provide a good surface for the Boxing Day
derby.
Both sides built their play patiently but there was little to excite the 169
spectators as Pickering for the Seasiders and Dozzell for the visitors commanded
their respective defence lines well to deny any clear openings on goal.
Swann came closest to breaking the deadlock for Wanderers in the first
half as he raced across the area to created an opportunity to shoot but under
pressure from the diving Leggett he put the ball into the side netting. Morgan
produced a save from Stannard as the game started to open up with the interval
approaching but there was little between the sides at the break.
The busy Hurd made a darting run into the Felixstowe area a minute after the
re-start but fired over the bar under pressure from Leggett. Wanderers had
stepped up a gear
following the
break with Swann's direct running creating the only goal of the game on 48
minutes. Following a run down the right Swann cut in along the by line and fired
low and hard into the danger area, Kyle and Barker contested for the ball with
the Felixstowe defender gaining the last touch as the ball was diverted past the
stranded Leggett.
Swann, Martin and Hurd looked increasingly dangerous with Leggett saving well to
deny Hurd as the Wanderers man of the match enjoyed a steady supply from
Goldfinch and Buck.
Barker and Barber worked hard to win ball in mid-field for the Seasiders with
Hunn and Irving occasionally getting the better of the dependable Lowe and
Dozzell at the heart of Wanders defence, but opportunities were few with the
visitors looking in charge.
Morgan' s header saved by Stannard on the hour was the home sides best
opportunity of the half and despite the introduction of all three substitutes
the Seasiders did not trouble Stannard again.
Saturday 18th December - Ridgeons League Division One
March Town United 1 - 0 Felixstowe & Walton United (1-0)
Team: Stephen
Pitts, Lee Parry, Graham Stiff (Beddoes), Nicky Barker, Adam
Pickering, Chris Kyle, Bradley Barber (Felgate), Ryan Hunn, Liam Hunn, Tom
Irving, Shun Pugh (Cooper)
With Leggett suspended Pitts had the honour of being in goal for the trip
to top of the table March. A single goal from Pepper ten minutes before the
interval was all that separated the two sides at the end of an entertaining
game. The Hares were good value for their win, showing why they are leading the
way at Christmas, with a fast flowing style of play. The seasiders created
chances of their own and Anker in the home goal made a number of fine saves to
deny an equaliser as March held on to the three points.
March may have surprised even themselves with their excellent form this season
but from the first whistle it was easy to see why they have enjoyed such a
change in fortune. A combination of youth, experience, skill, speed and fitness
enables the Hares to threaten from first to last with Ashley Brand's swift run
down the left straight from the kick, which needed the interception of Stiff,
posting the home sides intent.
The Seasiders prefer to play football to feet and the passing style of both
teams encouraged a flowing game. Pepper is an influential player for the Hares
wining the ball and distributing well to the very mobile front players and
Pitts, who had a confident game for the Seasiders in goal, was well positioned
to claim the ball from Pepper's header following a corner. Hunn and Parry were
having to work hard to match the pace of Brand with Kyle and Pickering holding a
firm line to catch a number of swift breaks off-side.
Pitts
saved well to deny A. Brand and a neat flick on by Hutchcraft resulted in Pepper
shooting over the bar when well placed.
March continued to enjoy the greater share of possession but Anker was forced to
save at the feet of Liam Hunn and concede a corner as Barker and Barber encouraged
the visiting forwards with neat passes through the March defence.
The deadlock was broken ten minutes before the break when the Hares once again
threatened down the left and with the Felixstowe defence concentrating on this
area they switched play to the unmarked Pepper on the right.
Luke Pepper raced
twenty yards into the area and despite being closed down by Barker and Pickering
got his shot away which deflected off Pickering past the diving Pitts.
It was no more than their positive play deserved, but moments later it was
nearly all square. Barker's free
kick deep into the March area ran loose and Kyle saw his stabbed shot from close
range smothered by Anker. Kyle then struck a post from Irving's corner as the
Seasiders finished the half on the attack.
After the interval March continued to hold the upper hand with Pitts saving from
Hutchcraft and Dean chipping the ball over both Pitts and the cross bar as they
looked to make the game safe. Kyle cleared off the line to deny Dean and Pitts
saved Welcher's long range strike to keep the difference to one goal and with
the final whistle approaching nervousness krept into the home sides game which
the Seasiders nearly capitalised on.
Beddoes and Barber linked well to free the
tireless Irving and his shot on the turn was well saved by Anker. Substitute
Felgate's first touch was a strike on goal which was well blocked at the expense
of a corner. A goal mouth scramble saw Anker gratefully smother and claim the
ball as Felixstowe went close to snatching a late equaliser, but the chance had
gone and the Hares saw out time for a deserved win.
Saturday 11th December - Ridgeons League Division One
Team: Lawrence Leggett, Ryan Hunn, Graham Stiff, Chris Kyle, Adam
Pickering, Bradley Barber, Michael Beddoes (Barker), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom
Irving, Mark Cooper (Pugh)
Felixstowe & Walton United 0 - 1 Fakenham Town (0-1)
Having started the season slowly both sides went into the game at
Dellwood Avenue with optimism following recent good results. A 28th minute goal
from Delicarta saw the Ghosts ahead at the break after an evenly contested first
half.
The Seasiders created numerous chances after the interval but Jackson in the
Fakenham goal was not to be denied a clean sheet, making a number of fine saves to
maintain the lead to the final whistle.
The Seasiders built their attacks confidently during the first half but failed
to capitalise on the opportunities they created. Hunn and Morgan both went
close with headers following neat build up play and Beddoes saw his shot from
distance clear the
Fakenham bar following determination from Morgan. Barber went closest to opening
the scoring for the home side with his low driven free kick shaving the far post with Jackson
beaten.
Barwell headed over from Neall's corner as the Ghosts increased their influence
on the game and they opened the scoring after 28 minutes.
Julian Delicarta created
the opening with neat footwork on the edge of the area and following a neat wall
pass with Haynes drove the ball home from eight yards.
Fakenham then held the upper hand until the interval with Pask seeing his shot
blocked as Kyle and Pickering stood strong to prevent any further advantage to
the visitors prior to the interval.
Felixstowe emerged resolutely from the interval break
but Cooper's low shot, saved by Jackson was to characterise the second half as
the Ghosts defended in depth but looked dangerous on the break, with Leggett
saving well to deny Symonds from ten yards.
Neall and Barwell in the Fakenham defence ensured the busy Felixstowe forwards
had limited sight of goal and the positioning of Jackson allowed him to assuredly
make a number of clean saves. Saves from Hunn, Irving and Barber enabled Fakenham to claim the win and deny Felixstowe any reward for their positive
contribution to the game.
Saturday 4th December - Ridgeons League Division One
Cornard United 0 - 2
Felixstowe & Walton United (0-1)
Team: Lawrence Leggett, Lee Parry (Rogowski), Graham Stiff, Chris Kyle, Adam
Pickering, Michael Beddoes, Mark Cooper, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving,
Shaun Pugh
The Seasiders improved run continued with an away win at fourth in the
table Cornard to make it six wins from eight games under new Manager Paul Hunn.
Felixstowe edged the first period with Liam Hunn's penalty, after Morgan had
been crudely brought down, separating the sides at the interval.
Cornard dominated the second half with poor finishing and solid defending
enabling the visitors to keep a clean sheet. The impressive and persistent Tommy
Irving was rewarded close to the final whistle as he fired home the Seasiders
second.
With the game featuring in the local paper as 'match
of the day' and the influential pairing of Barber and Barker absent from the
starting line up, their could have been understandable nervousness at the visit
to promotion chasing Cornard. If there was any trepidation it did not show as
Chris Kyle led the young side by example to a stoical performance against the
experienced home
side,
On a good surface both teams passed the ball around well and good build up play
down the left between Selvey and Cutmore looked to have created the opening goal
for Cornard after six minutes but Ford failed to get clean contact on the ball
from close range. Two minutes later Felixstowe went close with Beddoes striking
the home cross bar and when Tanner palmed the ball away from the head of Hunn the
ball fell to Irving who's shot narrowly missed the far post.
Defences held the upper hand with further opportunities at a premium until
Theobold brought down Morgan in the area and up stepped
Liam Hunn to coolly slot home the opening goal on 42 minutes.
Cornard held the upper hand after the interval but
Pickering and Kyle, captain for the
day, ensured that the lively Cornard
forwards were restricted to long range efforts with Bethell, Proctor, Ford, Owen
and Howe all seeing chances go wide of the mark. Bethell went closest with his
shot striking the Felixstowe cross bar and Guyon will be wondering how he
spooned his close range effort over the bar.
The Seasiders rode their luck and the hard working Irving was rewarded with a
goal close to the final whistle. Kyle's free kick into the Cornard area was
headed down by Morgan with Tommy Irving twisting
and turning to fire home Felixstowe's second and decisive goal from ten yards.
Tuesday
30th November - 1st Division k.o. Cup
Long Melford 2 - 3 Felixstowe & Walton United (1-1)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Chris Rogowski (Pickering), Graham Stiff, Chris Kyle, Lee Parry (Felgate), Bradley
Barber, Michael Beddoes, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Mark Cooper
(Pugh)
A second cup win for the Seasiders at Long
Melford in the space of four days, but the home side will be wondering how this
game slipped from their grasp.
Long Melford controlled the game for long periods in the first period but only
had Smith's equaliser, cancelling
Hunn's opener for Felixstowe, to show for their
dominance at the break.
They were to
rue the missed chances as the visitors opened up a two goal cushion through
Kyle and Irving.
Arnold reduced the areas to set up an exciting
climax but saves from Leggett saw Felixstowe through to the next round.
Felixstowe opened the scoring after seven minutes when the hardworking Irving
saw his shot blocked and Liam Hunn was first to the
loose ball to stab the ball home under the diving Haygreen. Long Melford
switched the ball with effect from flank to flank as the visitors defended
deeply but shots from Green and Smith failed to test Leggett in the Felixstowe
goal.
Leggett was
pleased to see the ball spin back off a post as the pressure mounted and on 40
minutes the sides were level when Steve Smith
headed home from Powling's cross.
Barber and Irving continued to test the home back line in the second half as
Felixstowe enjoyed a greater share of possession but it was Leggett who
produced a finger tip save from substitute Irving with twenty minutes remaining.
On 79 minutes Chris Kyle bundled the ball over the
line at the far post from Barber's free kick to regain the lead for the visitors
and when Tom Irving stole the ball from Haygreen as
the home goalkeeper's touch let him down, to add the third, the game looked won.
Stephen Arnold strode forward to head home
unchallenged to set up a frantic last five minutes with Leggett again to
the rescue to make an excellent save and deny the home side extra time.
Saturday 27th November - Suffolk Senior Cup 2nd Round
Long Melford 1 - 2
Felixstowe & Walton United (0-2)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Graham Stiff, Nick Barker, Lee Parry, Bradley
Barber, Michael Beddoes, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving (Pugh), Mark Cooper
(Felgate)
The Seasiders will play at AFC Debenham in the
quarter final of the Suffolk Senior Cup following victory at Stoneylands this
afternoon.
First half goals from Beddoes and
Barber saw Felixstowe rewarded for excellent build
up play to open up a two goal interval lead. The home side pressed strongly
after the break with Smith pulling a goal back and
despite a number of close calls the Seasiders held on to take their place in the
next round.
Manager Paul
Hunn recorded his fourth win from six games in charge, after formally accepting
the post during the past week. A number of enforced changes were made to the
starting line up but they did not the let the Manager down with Bradley Barber
also passing a late fitness test to make an influential contribution to the
game.
Finalists the last two seasons Long Melford may have underestimated the resolve
of their visitors as they seldom moved into top gear in the first half. Smith
and McKenna spurned the best chances for the home side in the opening period
with Smith firing wide of Leggett's right hand post following a neat flick on
from Arnold and McKenna shot wide when well plced after capturing the ball in
midfield.
In contrast Felixstowe looked determined with Barker and Barber pulling the
strings and Irving hunting down and retaining the ball well in attack. A flowing
move down the
left produced the opener on twenty minutes as Morgan and Barber linked well to
create the opportunity which Michael Beddoes
gleefully accepted to fire home past the motionless Haygreen from 28 yards. Six
minutes later and Bradley Barber intercepted a poor
clearance from Haygreen to run on and double the lead with a well taken shot.
The Seasiders were good value for their interval lead but the home side
commenced the second half all guns blazing with Leggett making a double save
from McKenna and
Beddoes
making a hurried clearance from under the bar as the visiting defence came under
tremendous pressure. Steve Smith produced the
deserved reply five minutes into the half but only he will know if it was an
attempt on goal as he turned ten yards from the penalty area wide on the right
to swivell and volley the ball towards goal and past the stranded Leggett. Three
classic goals and but for the agility of Leggett and Haygren there would have
been more.
The momentum was now with Long Melford and they improved beyond all recognition
from the first half but Haygreen had to be on top of his game to keep out
Barker's free kick, fired at he near post, and produce a one hand ed save to
deny Irving.
Fellgate cleared off the line with Leggett beaten following a goalmouth scramble
as Long Melford committed players forward in search of the equaliser that would
take the game to extra time. Home keeper Haygreen also went forward as the
corner count mounted in the closing moments and was almost caught out as
Felixstowe broke and Barber went close with an attempt at the unguarded goal
from is own area.
An exciting climax to the game with the Seasiders holding on to progress to a
tie at AFC Debenham in the quarter finals.
Graham Stiff became our first 'blood change shirt' as he finished the game
wearing number 18.
Saturday 20th
November - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 0 - 2 Ely City (0-2)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Lee Parry, Chris Kyle, Nick Barker (Cooper), Adam Pickering, Bradley
Barber, Shaun Pugh, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Tom Childs
First half goals from Chatters and Mason saw the
Robins claim all three points on a cold afternoon at Dellwood Avenue. The
Seasiders had their opportunities notably through Barber, Hunn and Irving but
Fallon in the visitors goal was not to be denied a clean sheet saving well from
Barber in the final minute.
Adam Pickering
returned to the starting line up for the visit of Ely City with the Robins
quickly into the game forcing two early corners. The Seasiders responded with
Irving holding the ball well and Barber shooting over from distance,
Neither keeper was troubled until the 13th minute when
Chatters' free kick from wide on the right eluded
everyone in the crowded Felixstowe goal area and found it's way into the net for
the opening goal.
The game continued at an even pace with Leggett saving at the feet of Mason and
Fallon in the Robin's goal doing well to palm Barber's free kick over the bar at
the expense of a corner. With half time approaching Mason
doubled the visitors lead with a powerful drive from 20 yards, which Leggett got
a strong hand to but did not prevent the ball finding the net.
Jordan cleared off the Ely line to deny Irving with Fallon beaten on the stroke
of half time.
Felixstowe pressed for a reply with Irving and Cooper both going close but
chances could not be converted into goals despite a number of goal mouth
scrambles. Barber's free kick close to the final whistle was parried by Fallon
but the Seasiders were denied a consolation as the ball was scrambled away for
the Robins to secure all three points.
Tuesday 16th
November - Ridgeons League Division One
Whitton United 0 - 2
Felixstowe & Walton United (0-2)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Chris Rogowski, Graham Stiff, Nick Barker, Lee Parry, Chris Kyle, Bradley
Barber, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Tom Childs
A determined Felixstowe raced into a two goal lead after sixteen minutes
of this local derby at the King George V Ground this evening. The Seasiders
leading goalscorer Liam Hunn
bagged a brace with a
headed goal on 13 minutes and a shot on the turn three minutes later.
Smythe intercepted well to deny Hunn a strike on goal following a neat flick on
from Barber but from the resultant corner, taken by Childs, Hunn powerfully
headed home the 13th minute opener.
Playing with purpose and drive Felixstowe continued to look dangerous and
following a Barker free kick wide on the left Childs broke to the dead ball line
and his cross fell to Hunn who's shot on the turn deceived Jones in the home
goal to double the tally. Morgan also went close with a header as the visitors
controlled the first half with Driver's long range shot the only threat from the
home side before the interval.
Felixstowe were well organised after the break and they needed to be as they
were forced to defend in depth for long periods. Driver shot from distance on
numerous occasions but
failed to trouble Leggett in the visitors goal. The introduction of Brown and
Wright saw the tempo increase for the Greens with Wright running through the
Felixstowe defence only to see his shot hit the side netting. Jones was well
positioned to save from Barber following an increasingly rare Felixstowe attack.
Curtis headed wide and the ball was scrambled away from the Felixstowe goal as
the final whistle approached. Whitton continued to press but the Seasiders saw
out time to desrvedly claim their third victory in four games under Paul Hunn.
Saturday 13th November - Ridgeons League Division One
Haverhill Rovers 2 - 0 Felixstowe & Walton United (1-0)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Chris Rogowski, Chris Kyle, Nick Barker, Adam Pickering,
Bradley Barber, Michael Felgate (Irving), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Shaun Pugh, Tom Childs
(Burton)
The home side's unbeaten league record was not threatened but Rover's had
to wait for Brandt's goal on the hour to confirm the win.
Hunt
opened the scoring on 33 minutes with Rover's comfortably in control and
spurning a number of good openings. The Seasiders went close through Hunn,
Barber and Irving and occasionally looked likely to spring a surprise equaliser.
However, Bavester in the home goal was not seriously tested with Brandt ending
any doubt as Haverhill finished good value for their win.
Michael Felgate and Liam Hunn returned for the Seasiders, with Parry and Cooper
absent, for the trip to unbeaten Haverhill.
Rovers were quickly onto the attack and, apart from a few brief spells of
Felixstowe pressure, held the initiative throughout. Leggett made a number of
saves to deny the home side as Hammond and Hunt both went close in the early
exchanges. A Felixstowe free kick on eleven minutes posed the first threat from
the visitors but Pickering failed to get a touch to the ball and Bavester
collected comfortably.
On a bumpy surface flowing football was difficult with the home side more
comfortable on the ball. Pressure increased on the Felixstowe goal and on 33
minutes the home side were ahead. Green took a free kick wide on the left and
his cross to the far post was headed home by Rover's Captain
Marcus Hunt. Adrian Hunt should have doubled the
lead less than a minute later but blasted over the Felixstowe bar when well
placed.
Leggett made a double save at close quarters to deny Jenkin and then Brandt
before Felixstowe raised their game prior to the half time whistle. Pugh
passed intelligently to
Hunn who ran on to shoot but straight at the well positioned Bavester. The
Seasiders first corner of the game on 45 minutes fell to Barber who's effort
found the roof of the net, unfortunately for the visitors it was on the outside.
Felixstowe were lacking the passion of the two
previous games but the half time talk saw them emerge with extra purpose. But it
was still the home side that were creating, and squandering, chances. Jenkin
fired into the side netting and was profligate with an opportunity created by
Brandt. Leggett made an excellent save from Cowling's shot before
Mark Brandt scored the home sides second on the
hour from the edge of the area to end any thoughts of an upset.
Will Burton, making his first team debut as a substitute, released Irving who
shot just wide of the post with Bavaster stranded. This was to be Felixstowe's
last serious threat as Haverhill finished on the offensive retaining their
unbeaten record.
Tuesday 9th
November - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 4 - 1 Tiptree United (3-1)
Team: Lawrence Leggett, Lee Parry, Chris Kyle, Nick Barker (Stiff), Adam Pickering,
Bradley Barber, Matt Morgan, Mark Cooper (Hunn), Shaun Pugh (Pitts), Tom Childs
No shortage of incident in the rain at Dellwood Avenue this evening as
the Seasiders recorded their second win in four days. Pugh
volleyed home the opener with his first touch after only 48 seconds of the game
with Childs lifting the ball over the stranded
Wooton from 25
yards to double the lead with eleven minutes played.
Collier reduced the deficit on 21 minutes but less
than a minute later Kyle restored the two goal
advantage. The Referee got busy in the second half with a flurry of cards including a
red for Felixstowe's Leggett as he misjudged a through ball and handled outside
of his area. Morgan made the game safe fifteen
minutes from time with a strong headed goal from Pugh's cross.
With Irving and Liam Hunn injured the Seasiders started with Cooper and Pugh up
front and rewarded as the two combined in the first minute. Cooper made a strong
surging run down the right and drawing the defenders to him squared the ball for
Shaun Pugh to rifle
home from the edge of the box. The game continued at a fast pace on a wet
surface with Warwick and Collier impressing for Tiptree without getting a clean
strike on goal, With the Tiptree defence pushing out to the edge of the box the
ball fell to Tom Childs wide on the left and with
Wooton well forward in his area he picked his spot to score with a well judged
looping drive in the 11th minute.
Tiptree slowly got their passing game together after the early set back and when
Rochester crossed for Collier to score it looked
like the tide may have
turned. Felixstowe
have looked more resilient in recent games and swiftly responded with their
third goal less than a minute later. Barber linked well with Pugh before seeing
his volley well saved by Wooton at the expense of a corner. Childs took the flag
kick which eventually fell to the persistent Cooper and his driven ball into the
goal area was stabbed home from close range by Chris Kyle.
Leggett saved well from Rochester as Tiptree continued to look dangerous towards
the break.
The game fell quiet after the interval with
Felixstowe content to defend the lead and
Tiptree busy but unable to find the telling ball. On 70 minutes Cooper and Leeke
clashed and were lucky to see just yellow. Further cards followed although the
game was far from a heated encounter. Matt Morgan
made the game safe with fifteen minutes remaining as he met Pugh's cross to
powerfully head home.
Leggett was dismissed with ten minutes to go after making contact with the ball
just outside of his area. Steven Pitts came on at the expense of Shaun Pugh who
received thoroughly deserved applause for his performance. Pitts was not tested
and despite a determined effort from Tiptree the Seasiders finished comfortable
winners.
Saturday 6th
November - Ridgeons League Division One
Swaffham Town 1 - 2 Felixstowe & Walton United (0-1)
Team: Lawrence Leggett, Lee Parry, Chris Kyle, Nick Barker, Adam Pickering,
Bradley Barber, Ryan Hunn, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Tom Childs
The brothers Hunn combined to lift the spirits on a grey afternoon with
the floodlights on from the start. With father Paul in charge it was fitting
that Ryan's cross was met by Liam Hunn to open the
scoring on 35 minutes.
Two minutes after the half time interval Moore
equalised but parity was short lived with Matt Morgan
powerfully heading home from Irving's corner within a minute. Hawes fired
a penalty kick, awarded to the home side, over the bar and showing great
commitment the Seasiders resisted late pressure to gain three valuable points.
Following the
resignation of Paul Adams, the Seasiders reserve team Manger Paul Hunn, ably
supported by Phil Hazelwood, took charge of first team affairs for the visit to
Swaffham Town. The side appeared well motivated for the challenge of taking
maximum points at Shoe Makers Lane for the first time and the game was played at
a fast pace throughout.
Winning the toss the visitors elected to take advantage of the slope in the
second half, probably remembering the reversal of fortunes after the break last
season.
Kyle's header from Barker's free kick on ten minutes posed the first serious
threat on either goal with the Swaffham defence scrambling the ball away.
Doughty created the Pedlars first opening finding space on the left and his shot
was narrowly wide. Barber's free kick was just over before the half hour mark
with goal attempts kept at distance by both sets of defences.
The determination in
the Felixstowe side was epitomised by Ryan Hunn in the 35th minute when he
charged down a clearance wide on the right and surged forward to cross for
Liam Hunn to bravely head home under serious
pressure. Liam required lengthy treatment and later left the field with a
suspected broken nose.
With the interval approaching Moore put the ball over the Felixstowe bar with
Leggett absent after preventing a stray back pass from going for a corner and
the lively Elden pouncing on the loose ball.
Moore made amends two
minutes after the restart when he rose unmarked to head home
Bush's corner. Felixstowe responded straight away with Morgan's telling run and
cross headed clear by Hemeter at the expense of a corner. Irving took the flag
kick and Matt Morgan powerfully headed home at the
near post.
Leggett saved with his legs to deny Hawes before Swaffham were awarded a penalty
on 79 minutes. Hawes stepped up and failed to trouble Leggett as he fired the
ball over the bar. The Pedlars worked hard for an equaliser with Hawes and
Doherty looking dangerous but the Felixstowe defence stood firm and a determined
and committed Seasiders team held on to claim an important win.
Tuesday 2nd
November - Ridgeons League Cup
Diss Town 5 - 0 Felixstowe & Walton United (1-0)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Chris Rogowski, Chris Kyle, Graham Stiff (Cooper), Adam Pickering, Bradley
Barber, Michael Beddoes (Fenn), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Tom Childs
The Tangerines progressed to the second round with four goals in the last
fifteen minutes as Felixstowe, who were in the contest up that point, lost their
shape.
Both sides passed the ball well on a good surface with Premier Division side
Diss looking to possess the greater threat. Leggett saved well to deny Hardy
after six minutes with Hunn clearing off the line to deny the home sides first
threat on goal. Childs and Irving saw shots pass wide and Morgan failed to get
enough power into a header from Rogowski's cross to unduly trouble Pauling in
the home goal.
Miller opened the scoring from close range
following a cross from Hardy on 33 minutes and despite Diss dominating the latter stages
of the half it was a single goal that separated the sides at the interval.
Neither goal was seriously threatened in the second half until
Blythe, looking suspiciously off side, raced
through on 76 minutes to double the lead at the second attempt after his initial
shot came back off a post. From that point it was one way traffic with
Miller scoring his second two minutes following a
corner and Blythe got the final touch to George's
goal bound strike on 86 minutes. Barber brought a save from substitute
keeper Cooper but their was to be no consolation and Hardy
made it five just before the final whistle with a well struck shot from 16
yards.
Saturday 30th October - Ridgeons League Division One
Saffron Walden 1 - 0 Felixstowe & Walton United (0-0)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Chris Rogowski, Ryan Hunn, Graham Stiff, Nick Barker, Adam Pickering, Michael Felgate
(Fenn), Tom Irving, Liam Hunn (Beddoes), Tom Childs, Bradley Barber
An own-goal was all that separated the two sides following their first meeting
in nearly twenty years. The only save Leggett had to make during the game was to
deny Barker from the penalty spot and was only beaten by an attempted clearance
that ballooned over the stranded Felixstowe keeper.
The Seasiders
spurned a number of guilt edged chances to win the game comfortably but
travelled home empty handed.
The sides enjoyed an equal share of possession with the Seasiders creating a
number of clear openings from which Hunn failed to capitalise and Childs also
skied the ball over the bar from close range following good build up play.
A long clearance from the home side on 22 minutes found the dangerous Riches on
the edge of the Felixstowe area with a penalty awarded as Stiff brought him
down. Barker stepped up to take the spot kick only for Leggett to save low to
his left. Harvey in the home goal continued to be the busier of the two keepers
and saved well to deny Irving as the visitors finished the half strongly.
Home captain Butchart failed to test Leggett when he
shot well over shortly after
the restart. Felixstowe's best opportunity fell to Hunn on 55 minutes following
a free kick from Barker. The ball ran to Barber who's shot was saved by Harvey
and the ball cleared only as far as Pickering on the edge of the area, his shot
cannoned of an upright to Hunn two yards out but he managed to spoon his shot
wide.
From the goal kick Saffron turned defence into attack and with Riches closing in
on the ball on the edge of the Felixstowe area Barker stretched to clear but the
ball drifted over the stranded Leggett to give the home side the lead.
Hunn had the ball in the net, only to be ruled out for off side and substitute
Fenn almost scored with his first touch but the goal would not come and the home
side collected all three points.
Saturday 23rd October - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 2 - 0 Hadleigh United (1-0)
In a game of few goal scoring opportunities the Seasiders recorded their first
home win of the season with a first half goal from Tommy
Childs and a second twenty minutes from time scored by
Liam Hunn.
Without a
home win before the start of play the Seasiders started nervously and Hunn
blocked Balaand's shot in the fourth minute as Hadleigh went in search of their
fourth away win of the season. Irving had a shot comfortably saved
by Godbold in the Hadleigh goal but the game was largely played in midfield with
both sides lacking any creativity in attack. Hadleigh played a number of long
balls to the tall Cracknell who failed to trouble Leggett in the home goal with
his headers going wide. Hadleigh's most promising attack of the first half saw
Beckett shoot into the side netting following a neat exchange of passes
with Bloomfield on the edge of the Felixstowe area.
Felixstowe went ahead on 37 minutes when Tommy Childs
powerfully headed home from Nicky Barker's well struck free kick from wide on
the left.
After the break Hadleigh went in search of the equaliser but failed to test
Leggett and on 70 minutes Liam Hunn scored the home
sides second from 12 yards when he met a precision pass from Barber to slide the
ball under the diving Godbold.
Hadleigh pressed but the Felixstowe back line held firm to secure a valuable and
much needed three points.
Saturday 16th October - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 1 - 3 Stanway Rovers (1-2)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Chris Rogowski, Lee Parry (Stiff), Nick Barker, Adam
Pickering, Michael Beddoes (Morgan), Michael Felgate (Irving), Mark Cooper
(Pugh), Liam Hunn, Tom Childs
The Seasiders took the lead in seventh minute through
Childs with Gaisford equalising four minutes
later. Jones put the visitors ahead on 16 minutes
ahead and Witney ensured Rovers recorded their
fifth successive win on 64 minutes. Felixstowe were competitive throughout but
the visitors were good value for their three points.
Irving replaced the absent Barber and Parry started in defence as the Seasiders
made a bright start to the game. Tommy Childs
completed a flowing move from defence to attack to put the Seasiders ahead on
seven minutes with a well taken right footed curling shot to defeat Church from
the edge of the area.
Stanway responded swiftly and the presence of Jones forced a corner four minutes
later. The ball was not effectively cleared following the corner kick and
Mark Gaisford made the last contact as the ball was
bundled over the line. Rover's keeper Church made a good save low to his right
to deny Felgate and Leggett was alert to save from Rover's captain Burch as the game
flowed and chances were created at both ends of the field. Stanway took the lead
on 16 minutes when Robert Jones connected with a
corner from close range to steer the ball home. Leggett saved well from
Callender as Rover's looked to increase their lead before the interval but the
Felixstowe defence, well marshalled by Barker, held firm.
Felixstowe failed to test Church in the second half and
Scott Witney made sure of the points with a well taken goal after neat
interplay with the ever dangerous Jones.
Wednesday 13th
October - Ridgeons League Division One
Kirkley F.C. 4 - 0
Felixstowe & Walton United (3-0)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Chris Rogowski, Tom Childs, Graham Stiff (Anderson), Nick Barker, Adam
Pickering, Michael Beddoes (Morgan), Michael Felgate, Liam Hunn (Pugh), Mark
Cooper, Bradley Barber
Two goals conceded in the first three
minutes of the match left the Seasiders with a mountain to climb as the rain
lashed down at Kirkley this evening. Childs struck a post as Felixstowe failed
to convert opportunities to reply and by the interval the outcome was not in
doubt. Felixstowe battled to the final whistle and though the commitment could
not be questioned poor finishing and lapse defending resulted in a comfortable
win for Kirkley.
The excellent new stand, erected last Thursday, was welcome refuge for a good
crowd on a very wet and windy night. Kirkley attacked from the the kick off
and a neat turn on the edge of the Felixstowe area enabled Howes to provide
Paul Highfield with the first scoring opportunity
after only 36 seconds which he gratefully accepted from 12 yards.
With the strong wind to their backs kirkley pushed forward in numbers and inside
3 minutes had doubled their lead when a cross from the right rebounded off the
cross bar with Kevin Howes the first to react and
head past the stranded Leggett.
To their credit the Seasiders did not capitulate following the early reversal
and gathered themselves to create a number of chances to get back into the game.
Beddoes shot over from distance and Rogowski was first to a cross in the area
but failed to test Attridge in the home goal. The Seasiders best opportunity was
created on seven minutes when Pickering's well flighted cross from the right was
met by Childs at the far post but his header cannoned off the upright and was
cleared to safety. Leggett received treatment after a collision with Stokeld but
recovered to bravely save from the resulting corner. Leggett saved well at the
feet of Stokeld but on 37 minutes Danny Stokeld
shot past the diving Leggett as he broke through the Felixstowe back line to
perfectly time his run and collect a through pass from Le Compte before running
on to score.
A positive start to the second half from Felixstowe
without threatening the home goal and Beddoes was closest to scoring but at full
stretch lifted his shot over the bar from six yards as he met Barker's free
kick. The scoring was completed on 75 minutes as substitute
Shane Ward ran through a static defence to strike
the ball inside Leggett's right hand upright.
The Seasiders persisted throughout but lacked a cutting edge in front of goal
with Kirkley good value for their 4-0 win.
Saturday 9th October - Suffolk Senior Cup First Round
Ipswich Athletic 1 - 1 Felixstowe & Walton United after
extra time
Felixstowe won 4-2 on penalties.
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Adam Pickering, Tom Childs, Graham Stiff (R Hunn / Beddoes), Nick Barker,
Michael Felgate, Matt Morgan, Bradley Barber, Liam Hunn (Pugh), Mark Cooper, Tom
Irving
With a number of former Seasiders in the home team this was always going to be a
keenly contested game, and so it proved. Penalties were required to separate the
teams, after Alexander had equalised Irving's extra time goal, and the
Felixstowe team made no mistake from 12 yards to progress to the next round.
Adam Pickering
made his first team debut for the Seasiders at Bourne Vale in a competitive cup
tie against near neighbours Ipswich Athletic and will have been pleased with his
defensive performance.
Although the visitors enjoyed a good deal of possession it was the SIL side that
looked like breaking the deadlock with Etti striking the Felixstowe bar and Ford
firing across the goal and just wide of the far post in the first period. Hunn's
shot, comfortably saved by Smith in the Athletic goal, on 41 minutes was the
Seasiders first serious attempt on goal in a half that saw them play some neat
passing football without posing any real threat.
Howard headed wide from Ford's free kick on the hour
but with both defences quickly
closing down any sign of danger the keepers were seldom tested. Felgate struck
the Athletic cross bar as the visitors stepped up the pace and Irving brought a
good save from Smith low to his left as he broke through the home defence to
shoot.
The impressive Sadler fired over from distance as both sides went in search of
the winner in normal time and Barber's header from Irving's corner was cleared
of the Ipswich goal line deep into injury time to take the game to extra time.
Three minutes into overtime Tom Irving rattled the ball home from close range following good build up play and a telling cross from Cooper to put the Seasiders ahead. Pugh saw his shot saved by Smith before Alexander equalised in first half injury time. Pickering was adjudged to have fowled Etti and when Ford's free kick ran loose in the area Brennan Alexander was on hand to rifle the ball home. Howard did well to deny the lively Pugh as the Felixstowe substitute danced into the area with time running down, and the game entered the lottery of penalties.
Leggett saved two of the penalties taken by Athletic and with Barber, Childs, Cooper and Irving all confidently striking their spot kicks home the Ridgeons side advanced to the next round.
Tuesday 5th October - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 2 - 4 Needham Market (1-4)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Lee parry, Tom Childs (Pugh), Graham Stiff, Nick Barker, Carl Gibbs, Mark Cooper, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Bradley Barber
Needham were in cruise control for most of the game after a third minute goal
from Jopling gave them an early lead. Jopling scored his second after 18 minutes
before Hunn caught the visiting defence cold straight from the restart to narrow
the advantage but further goals from Mann and Townes provide Needham with a
comfortable half time lead.
The Seasiders showed greater resolve in the second half, as Needham took their
foot off the throttle, gaining a consolation goal when Barker's free kick was
deflected over the stranded Fenn with four minutes remaining.
The Seasiders
welcomed the return of Carl Gibbs after injury had kept him out of the game for
over two seasons. Substituted just before the interval we can only hope the
injury sustained is only minor.
Needham started confidently knowing a win would take them second in the table
and Stuart Joppling obliged with a well taken right
footed curling shot inside the far post and past the left hand of the diving
Leggett. Irving failed to get any strength into a shot from close range when a
free kick from Childs was fired low across the six yard line as Felixstowe
responded. Morgan's shot was well saved by Fenn with the loose ball hammered
over the Needham bar by Barber as Felixstowe enjoyed a spell of possession.
Stuart Joppling increased the visitors lead on 18
minutes but straight from the kick off the alert Liam Hunn
surprised a static Needham defence to fire home from 15 yards.
Shocked by the swift response Needham pressed forward and goals from
Simon Mann on 33 minutes and
Steve Townes in first half injury time saw the game closed out in the
first period.
After the break, with Needham taking their foot off
the pedal, Felixstowe showed
greater application and created a number of good moves with Fenn needing to be
alert. Substitute Pugh was lively and his persistence put Barber through but
Fenn blocked from point blank range with Leggett performing equally well in the
Seasiders goal to prevent any further scoring by the visitors.
With four minute remaining Felixstowe were rewarded for their second half
performance with a consolation goal as Nicky Barker's long range free kick
struck a defender and looped over the stranded Fenn.
Over the ninety minutes there was no disputing the destination of the points as
Needham duly moved to second place in the table.
Saturday 2nd
October - Ridgeons League Division One
Downham Town 5 - 2 Felixstowe & Walton United (3-2)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Michael Beddoes (Orford (Fenn), Tom Childs (Anderson), Ryan Hunn, Nick Barker, Graham Stiff,
Mark Cooper, Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Bradley Barber
Indecisive defending on a wet surface by the Seasiders provided Downham
with numerous scoring opportunities with Kavanagh netting a hat-trick and Cook
bagging a brace to provide the home side with a comfortable win.
Hunn had equalised Cook's first minute opener and when Irving reduced the
deficit to a single goal on the stroke of half time the game looked wide open,
but Downham were to press home their advantage after the break.
Heavy rain welcomed the players onto the pitch with Ryan Hunn, in for the absent
Parry, the only change in the Seasiders starting eleven from last week.
Downham got off to the best possible start with a goal after only 51 seconds as
Tim Kavanagh latched onto a quick through ball to
steer the ball under Leggett. Three minutes later Beddoes failed to recover from
an injury and was replaced by Orford at right back for Felixstowe.
The Seasiders responded well to the early set back building well from mid-field
and the equaliser came after seven minutes. Barber brought an excellent save
from Marshall at the expense of a corner which was not cleared and when the ball
was put back in by Orford Liam Hunn rose above the
home defence to plant the ball wide of the diving Marshall.
The busy Cooper went close to putting the Seasiders ahead after beating Marshall
on the edge of the area but Barr was on hand to clear the danger and as Downham
broke Cook put the ball over the bar when a pass would have been a better
option.
On 14 minutes Downham regained the lead when a pass from the elusive Wren found
Cook with his back to goal but with a neat piece of
skill he turned to fire the ball home. The home side looked capable of scoring
with every attack as the Felixstowe defence
remained static and two minutes later Cook doubled
his tally when he scored from Fryatt's free kick. Wren struck the bar as Downham
dominated but on the stroke of half time Felixstowe were thrown a life line when
Tom Irving captured the ball 40 yards out and
outpaced the home defence before rounding Marshall to coolly slot home.
The first goal after the break would be all important and Marshall blocked Hunn's shot on the edge of the Downham area straight from the re-start. The Seasiders pushed forward in numbers but Marshall dealt comfortably with a number of crosses. Felixstowe remained unconvincing in defence and when a long ball from Logan found Cook down the right flank he was able to run on unchallenged and cross for Kavanagh to open up a two goal advantage on 65 minutes. Two minutes late Kavanagh found space again behind the Felixstowe defence and made the game safe for Downham with a well struck shot on the turn to complete his hat-trick.
Saturday 25th
September - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 1 - 1 Swaffham Town (1-1)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Michael Beddoes, Tom Childs, Lee Parry, Nick Barker, Graham Stiff, Mark Cooper
(Pugh), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn, Tom Irving, Bradley Barber
Tom
Irving opened his goal-scoring account for the Seasiders just after the half
hour mark to equalise Adam Elden's 26th minute strike for Swaffham. An
entertaining game with opportunities for both sides to claim the win, but at the
final whistle deservedly ending all square.
The only change
from the 1-1 draw with Whitton on Tuesday evening saw Liam Hunn switch his place
on the bench with Shaun Pugh. The game also had a familiar look to it with the
Seasiders going behind and replying before the break and with both sides looking
capable of securing a win defences held firm and a goal-a-piece was the final
outcome.
Doherty had the opening shot of the game for Swaffham following neat interplay
between Elden and Childs. Irving headed Barber's corner against a post as the
game flowed and Elden brought a save from Leggett before opening the scoring on
26 minutes.
A positive run across the home area from Adam Elden
enabled the Swaffham striker to create enough space to fire home from 16 yards.
Felixstowe responded well with Childs and Beddoes probing down the flanks and
when Morgan claimed the ball in mid-field his pass found Irving in space behind
the Swaffham defence but the flag was correctly up, before the ball hit the back
of the net, for off side.
Making his third start for the Seasiders Tom Irving
linked well with Cooper and after missing a comparatively easy chance made no
mistake on 33 minutes to meet Cooper's precision pass and slide the ball under
the diving Cook.
Childs shot wide of a Swaffham upright after the break following a good build up from the home side with both sides playing neat football to feet. Hunn headed wide from Barker's free and with the final whistle approaching Leggett saved well to deny Bush from a free kick on the edge of the area. Encouragingly the home side maintained their shape and concentration throughout and will travel to Downham next Saturday with confidence.
Tuesday 21st
September - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 1 - 1 Whitton United (1-1)
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Michael Beddoes, Tom Childs (R Hunn), Lee Parry, Nick Barker, Graham Stiff,
Matt Morgan, Bradley Barber, Tom Irving, Mark Cooper, Shan Pugh (L Hunn)
Glen Driver gave Whitton the lead after only two minutes heading home from
Crane's cross with Mark Cooper equalising after sixteen. An evenly
contested game flowed from end to end with both sides creating enough chances to
win but Coopers shot against the visitors cross bar just after the interval was
the nearest either side came to increasing the scoreline and the game finished
all square.
On a windy night at Dellwood Avenue both teams were looking for a positive
result to kick start their league season and Whitton got off to the best possible
start after only two minutes. A strong run from Crane down the Felixstowe left
followed by a precise cross to the far post enabled Glen
Driver to head home from six yards across Leggett in the home goal.
The Seasiders responded well to the early set back with Irving, Cooper and Pugh
pushing forward with pace and Barber intelligently altering the direction of
attack. Butterworth comfortably held Morgan's header following a flowing move
from the Seasiders before Cooper levelled on 16 minutes. Gaining the ball in
midfield Mark Cooper outpaced the Whitton
defence to fire the ball home under the diving Butterworth.
Barber shot wide from distance as the Seasiders
started the second half strongly and maintained a good tempo throughout the
second half with Whitton looking to catch them on the break. From an Irving
corner Morgan headed goal-wards and when the parried ball fell to Cooper only
six yards out he struck the ball too well and it cannoned back off the Whitton
bar and away to safety.
Driver continued to look dangerous and was close with a shot on the hour without
testing Leggett in the home goal. Child's header over when well placed, following
a strong run and cross from Cooper, was the last clear chance of the game and a
sporting contest ended all square.
Former Seasider Shaun Curtis left for Hospital treatment following a fall after
only five minutes in which he fractured a finger. We all wish Shaun a speedy
recovery.
Saturday 18th
September - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 1 - 3 Thetford Town (1-0)
Team:
Lawrence Leggett, Chris Rogowski, Ryan Hunn, Graham Stiff, Nick Barker, Tom Childs,
Mark Cooper (Parry), Bradley Barber, Liam Hunn (Djan), Tom Irving, Shan Pugh
The Seasiders were left to Rue chances not taken in the first half as Thetford
scored through Richards, Taylor and Crawshaw to claim a win that looked beyond
them at the interval.
The Seasiders ripped through the visiting defence but only had a single Cooper
goal to show for their first half superiority and Thetford took full advantage
of the limited opportunities that came their way to take home all three points.

With Felgate, Kyle, Beddoes and Morgan all out
injured a number of changes had to be made but there were no excuses at the end
of a game that should have been comfortably
won by half
time. The opening goal came after twelve minutes of Felixstowe pressure when
Barker's free kick found Mark Cooper in the area to
fire home from eight yards. Pugh, making his first start for the senior side
impressed down the flank with Hunn and Childs both going close as further goals
for the home side looked likely.
The visitors first serious attack came on twenty minutes with Fowler shooting
over from distance. The Seasiders continued to dominate and carved out a number
of openings without causing Snowden in the Thetford goal any serious problems.
Within five minutes of the re-start it was all square when
Dave Richards was left
unmarked in the area to slide the ball under Leggett.
Hunn headed over from Pugh's cross and Pugh's shot was turned away by Snowden as
the home side looked to regain the lead. Snowden saved well to deny Barber's
curling free kick before Lawrence made his first save of the afternoon when he
blocked Smith's shot with little over ten minutes remaining.
With the ball lost in mid-field James Taylor was on
song to take full advantage and give Thetford the lead on 83 minutes. The
comeback was complete three minutes from time when Steve
Crawshaw's long range free kick slipped through the home keeper's legs
for Thetford's second league win of the season.
Tuesday 14th
September - Ridgeons League Division One
Tiptree United 5 - 2 Felixstowe & Walton United (2-1)
Team:
Steven Pitts, Michael Beddoes, Ryan Hunn, Graham Stiff, Nick Barker, Chris Kyle
(Pugh), Matt Morgan (Fellgate), Tom Childs, Liam Hunn, Mark Cooper Irving), Bradley Barber
Following three Cup games it was back to league action for the Seasiders this
evening, but it was to be a fruitless journey into Essex with the Jam
makers collecting all three points on a night of goals.
Two goals down
after half an hour Felixstowe fought back to see parity restored through Childs
six minutes after the break but the speed and direct running of Rowell and Guy
continued to stretch the visiting defence with Guy completing his hat-trick four
minutes from time.
The home side started much the brighter on an excellent playing surface and
opened the scoring after only five minutes when Mark Adams
met Walker's corner kick to head home from close range. The Seasiders took time
to get into the game and when Hunn broke free his goal was ruled offside.
Tiptree looked dangerous in attack and on the half hour
Jamie Guy created a goal from no apparent danger as he twisted and
volleyed home from fully twenty yards for the goal of the night.
Barber and Childs working hard in midfield combined on 32 minutes with
Bradley Barber firing home a lifeline for the
Seasiders to put them back in the game.
Six minutes after the restart Barber was brought down and when Barker tapped the
ball to Tom Childs he arrowed the ball home low and
hard under the diving Wooton to bring the sides level.
The game continued to be played at pace and flowed from end to end with the next
goal looking all important. The flag stayed down as Adam
Collier was found with a long ball from defence on the hour and he ran on
to give Tiptree the lead once more. Kyle was injured following an attempt on
goal and left the field with his arm in a sling and we trust his injury is not
too serious.
With the Seasiders continuing to press forward Rowell and Guy exploited the
space to good effect with Jamie Guy scoring twice
to complete his hat-trick four minutes from time.
Saturday
11th September - FA Vase First Round Qualifying
Felixstowe & Walton United 0 - 2 Flackwell Heath (0-1)
Team:
Lawrence Leggett, Ryan Hunn,Tom Childs, Graham Stiff, Nick Barker, Chris Kyle,
Michael Beddoes (Morgan), Michael Felgate (Pugh), Liam Hunn, Mark Cooper
(Rogowski), Bradley Barber
Experience was the telling ingredient
which saw the Heathens through to a home tie against Bicester in the next round
after an evenly fought game at Dellwood Avenue this afternoon.
With Payne pulling the strings in midfield for the visitors and Xavier, Corone
and Mason lively in attack the Seasiders had to work hard but enjoyed their fair
share of possession. Hunn, Childs and Barber all went close before Corone
put the visitors ahead on 35 minutes and Xavier put the tie beyond doubt with a
coolly taken goal ten minutes from time.

Referee Richard Oakes, flanked by Assistants David
Brine & Andrew Langsdon, led out the teams on a sunny but windy afternoon for
the first ever meeting between the two Clubs.
The visitors started in confident mood, following midweek FA Cup success,
retaining and playing the ball along the even surface but without
pressurising the home goal. The
busy Payne, for many years a favourite of Barry
Fry at Barnet, Southend and Peterborough showed his senior football credentials
holding and passing the ball to good effect. The first threat on goal however
came from Felixstowe's Barber when his dipping free kick narrowly missed the
Heathens far post with Keeper Knott confident it was going wide. On fifteen
minutes Liam Hunn was close with a diving header from Felgate's cross as the
home side enjoyed a good spell of possession with Barber switching the play
well. The Heathen's first shot came on 24 minutes with the dangerous Mason
shooting wide before nearly deceiving Leggett with a dipping shot from distance
which had the home keeper back peddling and palming the ball over for a corner.
The opening goal came on 35 minutes when the Seasiders failed to deal
effectively with a corner and when the ball fell to Warren
Corrone on the edge of the area his left foot strike arrowed into the
net.
Substitute White came close to doubling the lead with his first touch after the
break but placed his shot wide. Much of the second period was played in the
Heathens half of the field but Knott was little troubled though he may
have been fortunate to escape censure after colliding with Cooper as he advanced
dangerously beyond the last defender. Childs had a shot comfortably saved by
White with Haywood and Elliott ensuring a number of corners from the Seasiders
did not threaten the Heathens goal. Kyle, Barker and Stiff dealt well with swift
breaks from the visitors and kept the dangerous Mark
Xavier quiet until the 80th minute when he jinked past the stranded
Leggett and took his time to place the ball beyond Kyle defending on the line.
The Seasiders pressed to the final whistle but failed to reply and the Heathens
deservedly progressed to the next round where they will entertain Bicester.
We wish them success.

Wednesday 1st September - FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round-
Replay
Leiston 4 - 1 Felixstowe & Walton United (1-1)
Team:
Steven Pitts, Ryan Hunn, Tom Childs, Scott Cullum, Nick Barker, Chris Kyle,
Matthew Morgan, Michael Beddoes (Pugh), Liam Hunn, Mark Cooper
(Irving), Bradley Barber
Three goals in a fifteen minute spell in the second half confirmed Leiston's
place in the Preliminary Round on Saturday when they will entertain Tilbury.
Blake Saker opened the scoring for Leiston on 15 minutes
with Liam Hunn replying just before the half hour from
the penalty spot after Jennings was dismissed for handling on the line. The home
side dominated with a determined Seasiders defence working overtime to stay in
the game.
After the break the one way traffic continued with Leiston overcoming the
Seasiders resistance on fifty
nine minutes when Carl Chenery headed the home side into
the lead from Saker's corner kick. Ten minutes later Blake Saker scored his second
following a flowing move down the left and Mcglone confirmed the win within two minutes
as he met man of match Carl Ratcliffe's free kick. Scott Cullum, making
his debut for the Seasiders, received a first half caution and was dismissed
following a second half yellow for persistent infringement.
Steven Pitts made an excellent save to deny Saker his hat-trick as the home side
ran out worthy winners
We wish Leiston success on Saturday in the preliminary round.
Saturday 28th August - FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
Felixstowe & Walton United 1 - 1 Leiston (1-1)
Team:
Neil Stanbridge, Ryan Hunn,Tom Childs, Graham Stiff, Nick Barker, Chris Kyle,
Matt Morgan (Felgate), Michael Beddoes , Liam Hunn (Pugh), Mark Cooper
(Irving), Bradley Barber
The teams could not be separated at Dellwood Avenue this afternoon and will
replay on Wednesday at Victory Road for the honour of entertaining Tilbury this
coming Saturday in the next round of the FA Cup.
Ryan Hunn opened the scoring on 22 minutes in
favour of the Seasiders with Lee McGlone equalising
17 minutes later. The Premier Division side pressed in the second half but the
home defence stood firm and we will meet again this Wednesday k.o.7.45.

A good crowd gathered for the
Seasiders first FA Cup game for two years and the first for Leiston in forty five
years. Neil Stanbridge made a welcome return in goal for the Seasiders with the
rest of the side unchanged from Tuesday's game.
The first opening of the match fell to Leiston's Taylor who shot wide when well
placed in the fifth minute. Both teams looked lively in attack with Beddoes
producing a good ball to free Hunn on the edge of the box and he shot over the
visitors bar. Both sides were playing positive attacking football with the
opening goal coming to the home side in the 22nd minute. Kyle's diagonal ball
split the Leiston defence and found Liam Hunn perfectly and from a tight angle
his shot beat Peat but skimmed off the cross bar for his brother
Ryan Hunn to bundle the ball over the line.
Within a minute Hunn was again one on one with the keeper but Peat saved well to
prevent the Seasiders from scoring a second. Stanbridge denied Fryer at the
expense of a corner as Leiston enjoyed a spell of sustained pressure. The
equaliser came however following a Felixstowe attack with a long clearance met
by Lee McGlone twenty yards out and he steered the
ball over the advanced Stanbridge. Fryer attempted to copy the achievement five
minutes later but placed the ball over the home keeper and bar.
Leiston enjoyed the greater
possession in the second period without creating too many clear openings and on
the break the home side looked dangerous with Peat acrobatically saving from
Kyle's header as he met Barber's well struck corner.
George headed over for Leiston with Barker marshalling the home defence well to
restrict the Leiston forwards to shots from distance. With time running down
both sides could have claimed the tie but over the ninety minutes a draw was a
fair result and we will all meet again on Wednesday at Leiston.

Tuesday
24th August - Ridgeons League Division One
Felixstowe & Walton United 1 - 3 Kirkley (1-1)
Team:
Lawrence Leggett, Ryan Hunn, Tom Childs, Graham Stiff (Irving), Nick Barker, Chris Kyle,
Matt Morgan (Rogowski), Michael Beddoes , Liam Hunn (Pugh), Mark Cooper, Bradley Barber
The Seasiders were ahead on 19 minutes with Liam Hunn
heading home from Barber's corner. Kevin Howes
equalised on 35 minutes to see the side level at the break.
Danny Stokeld put the visitors ahead 12 minutes
into the second half heading home a free kick and with the home side pressing
for an equaliser Kevin Howes broke and ran the
length of the field to score his second and confirm the destination of the
points in the final minute of the game.
Saturday 21st August 2004 - Ridgeons
League Division One
Godmanchester Rovers 0 - 3 Felixstowe & Walton United (0-1)
A minutes silence was observed before the game in memory of Jack Hills, General
Manager of Godmanchester, who sadly died in June.
Team: Lawrence Leggett,
Ryan Hunn, Tom Childs, Chris Rogowski, Nick Barker, Chris Kyle, Michael Beddoes
( Felgate), Matt Morgan, Liam Hunn (Pugh), Bradley Barber, Mark Cooper (Irving)
The best possible start to the season for the Seasiders with three points and
three goals from the trip west to Godmanchester. Last season's top scorer
Liam Hunn found the net either side of half time
with Bradley Barber striking the third directly
from a free kick on the hour. Shaun Pugh struck the woodwork as Felixstowe
continued to control the game and ran out worthy winners.
An even first half saw chances created at both ends of the field with the home
Captain Woods heading over from an early corner and Beddoes shooting wide as the
Seasiders responded. Burlington, one of four new signings for Godmanchester,
rattled the Felixstowe woodwork and Cooper rolled the ball across the home cross
bar from a cross wide on the right as the game continued to flow end to end.
Bundled
over in the area Liam Hunn got to his feet to
strike the penalty kick wide of Armitage to open the scoring in the 36th minute.
Leggett saved well from Burlington to preserve the lead into the half time
interval.
Liam Hunn doubled his tally seven minutes into the second half when he met Cooper's cross from the right and the Seasiders took control of the game from that point. On the hour Bradley Barber made it three when his left footed free kick from wide on the right defeated the despairing dive of Armitage in the home goal. Both sides made their full contribution of substitutes with Irving making his debut for the Seasiders. The visitors continued to enjoy the better of the game and the lively Shaun Pugh struck the woodwork in the closing seconds of a very convincing performance from Felixstowe & Walton United.
