Juniors end of season round up

Under 8’s     In their first season of competitive football both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams did themselves proud. The ‘A’s finished in third place, losing just two matches along the way. They had two 8-0 wins, (quite an achievement in a twenty minute match), one away at Sizewell and the other at home against local rivals Kirton Kestrels.

The ‘B’ team also finished in third place however, they only lost just once all season. Their biggest win was a 9-0 victory over Kesgrave and the boys also made the semi-finals of their cup competition.

Under 9’s   After being promoted to the top division last year, the nines have had a real rollercoaster of a season. With five matches left to play, the ‘A’ team looked dead and buried and on their way back to division two. However, a great run in turned their season around, two wins and two draws left them with a must win game against Claydon on the last day of the season. With both teams able to escape relegation with a win, the boys dug really deep and produced their best performance of the season to retain their top-flight status. In the cup, the boys won two penalty shootouts to win a place in the semi finals but then could not progress further.

Despite a 12-0 mauling from eventual champions St Johns, on the opening day of the season, the ‘B’s recovered well to finish safely in 6th place.

This Sunday, the 9’s are hosting the clubs annual six-a-side tournament at Dellwood Avenue.

Under 10’s   Another of our teams who were promoted last season, the 10’s had a struggle on their hands from the word go. Despite a win and a draw in their last two matches, the ‘A’s finished just two points away from safety and will be in division two next year.

The ‘B’s had a better time and finished in seventh place, but due to the league ruling that promotes and relegates on the ‘A’ team results, the B’s will also go down.

Under 11’s    In their last season of mini soccer, the boys also struggled to find their form of last season. The ‘A’s finished the campaign well to ensure their place in the top division for the start of 11-a-side football.

Although the ‘B’s finished in bottom spot they will join together with the other lads for next year.

Under 12’s    A terrific first season playing 11-a-side with the lads finishing in fourth place. In the cup, they lost out in the semi finals, but not before knocking out local rivals Grange Park Rangers 8-1. Playing host to the lads from Quintus two weeks ago, our boys won the Vis/Curry cup match 4-0. In the 6-a-side tournament the following day our The Felixstowe & Walton ‘A’s met the ‘B’s in the final, with the ‘A’s winning on penalties. The boys are now looking forward to the return visit in August.

Under 13’s Girls    With their first campaign at an end, the newest of our girls teams finished their first ever season of 9-a-side football in a very creditable third place. A 5-0 win over Achilles was a notable highlight.

Under 13’s     After gaining promotion to the top flight last season, the boys have consolidated their position and finished in a safe ninth place. Despite having three different managers this year and 23 different players being used, the boys battled on and produced some good results. An 11-1 win over Trinity Rangers in the cup earned them a place in the semi finals but once again, another of our teams failed to make it to the final.

Under 14’s Girls     With the girls sometimes struggling to put out the full compliment of nine players, it has been a difficult year for everyone. To their credit, the girls have continued to battle away in a league with some very strong teams.

Under 14’s   In spite of a blip in the middle of the campaign, the boys finished strongly to secure fourth place. Goal scoring is never an issue with these lads and they chalked up 6-0, 8-0, 8-1, and 9-0 wins this year. Matthew Mackenzie scored in 16 of his first 18 matches and scored five hat-tricks.

Under 15’s   The 15’s have played their last match in Division One and brought to an end a very tough year. Having gained promotion last year the lads lost six players just before the start of the season, they have found it very hard going, but will return to Division two with a wealth of experience.

Under 16’s    A win in their last match would have seen the lads finish in the top three for every one of their seven seasons as Felixstowe and Walton United. Unfortunately, the lads could only manage a draw and finished their Junior campaign in fourth place. A big thank you to Manager Kevin Witchalls and the rest of his team who have worked tirelessly to provide football for this age group. We wish them all well in the future and hope to see some of them back at the club in August, with the under 18’s.

The next junior event is our annual Under 9’s tournament on Sunday the 13th of May at Dellwood Avenue.
This is followed on the 3rd of June by our presentation and fun day.

Matches played weekend 28th/29th April 2007

Under 8’s    The 8’s finished their season two weeks ago, but they were awaiting other teams’ results, to confirm their final placing. Both teams held onto their 3rd positions, a creditable finish in their first season of competitive football.

Under 9’s    The 9’s 2-2 draw at home to East Bergholt has set them up for an exciting finish to the season. The boys got off to a great start with Jake Lensen scoring in the eighth minute. However, either side of half time the opposition scored and they looked to have pinched the win until Jake pounced once more to grab a share of the points. The result means that the boys travel to Claydon on Saturday knowing that a win or draw will keep them up, but a win for Claydon will keep them up, and relegate the seasiders.

The ‘B’s were under strength, with Daniel Hart out with a broken arm and Brandon Sowter with a bug, the team had the bare minimum seven players. Despite the lack of subs, the boys started well and did everything except score. Unfortunately just before the break, East Bergholt scored. After the interval, Harley Marshall made some great saves to keep the lads in the game and eventually their persistence paid off. A good move involving, Daniel French and Charlie Banc set up Aiden Branton who grabbed the equaliser. Minutes later, Luke Smout won the ball in his own penalty area and quickly passed to Joseph Pett out wide. He passed it infield to Daniel French who flicked it on again to Aiden, his goal secured the win, and a sixth placed finish in the table.

Under 10’s    The boys had mixed results in their last games of the season against fellow strugglers Capel Colts. The ‘A’s won 3-2 with goals from Matthew Bury, Charlie Kensworthy and Ben Parker. However, their win was not enough to save them from relegation. In the end, they lost out by two points to a Claydon Sports side that they drew with last weekend.

In the ‘B’ match, the boys lost out 5-1 with their only goal coming from top scorer Jace Smith. Although the ‘B’ team finished outside the relegation zone, they will be placed in Division Two next year courtesy of the ‘A’ teams final placing.

Under 11’s   Having finished all their fixtures two weeks ago, the boys were waiting on other results to decide their fate. As things went their way, they retain their status in Division One for the big move up to 11-a-side football.

Under 12’s    The lads have played all of their fixtures and are currently in third place. They can be overtaken on goal difference by Witnesham Wasps if they manage to beat league winners Ransomes in their last match.

Under 13’s Girls    The girls were at home to Achilles in their final game of the campaign. The first half saw the seasiders with the majority of the play with Emily Roper in midfield pulling the strings. Gabby Swann appeared to have given the girls the lead only for the linesman to rule her effort offside. The opposition tried to attack on the break but Micha Knowles, Misha McGlynn and Elly French held firm. After the interval Abigail Jewkes broke through and seized on an attempted clearance that hit her in the face, she maintained her composure to slot the ball home. The girls continued to attack but could not get the second goal that might have finished off the visitors, but with ten minutes to play Achilles scrambled the ball in from a corner to earn a share of the points. With their first campaign at an end, the girls finished their first ever season of football in a very creditable third place.

Under 13’s     After gaining promotion to the top flight last season, the boys have consolidated their position and finished in a safe ninth place. They played their last match on Thursday evening against local rivals Trimley Red Devils. Jake Eynon and Terry Dean scored a goal apiece but they eventually lost out 2-4.

Under 14’s Girls   In their penultimate match, the girls were at home to Boxford Rovers; their 7-2 defeat leaves them in seventh place. Josie Haward and top markswoman Leanne Lockwood were the scorers.

Under 14’s    Their final match of the season saw the boys away at Wickham Market. With all the possession in the first half, it took almost until the interval for the boys to break the deadlock and they did it in style. Midfielder, Jamal Wiggins smashed the ball into the roof of the net, from 25 yards out for his first goal of the season. A defensive mistake early in the second half allowed Wickham to level the scores, before the seasiders keeper, Ben Hall, fell awkwardly and appeared to hurt his arm. He was replaced by striker Matthew Mackenzie who did a fine job as replacement. It later transpired that Ben had fractured his arm in two places, (we wish him a speedy recovery). The lads had the chance to win the game later when George McCallum was fouled in the area, but unfortunately, the home sides keeper guessed correctly and made a save. With the score finishing 1-1 the boys are now in third place in the league, they may drop to fourth if Oak rangers win their last match on Saturday.

Under 15’s    The 15’s have played their last match in Division One and brought to an end a very tough season. Having gained promotion last year the lads have found it very hard going, and will return to Division two with a wealth of experience.

Under 16’s    An outstanding performance from the lads, who beat the League Champions, Kirton Kestrels for the second time this season. Despite totally dominating the first period, all the lads had to show for their efforts was a single goal, scored by Jordan Matthews. Just after the restart, Jordan turned provider with his cross being headed in by Reece Turner to make it 2-0. Saving the best until last, Nathan Glencastle collected the ball in his own half and surged forward, he played a terrific one-two with Sam Stopher and then slotted the ball home. Kirton managed to grab two goals late on, but they never looked like getting the equaliser. With one game left to play, the 16’s will secure third place if they beat bottom side, Framlingham Town on Saturday.

Dutch Visit
Last weekend saw the annual visit from our friends from Kwintshuel in Northern Holland. The lads from Quintus F.C. arrived on Friday evening and after a welcome drink at the clubhouse, they went off with the families who would be their hosts for the weekend. On Saturday morning, the Vis/Curry Cup match was played on the main pitch at Dellwood with our lads running out comfortable 4-0 winners. A disco followed in the evening and on Sunday, somewhat bleary eyed the boys arrived for the under 12’s six-a-side tournament. After several group games which included teams from our
under 11’s, Trimley, Kirton and Grange Park Rangers, the final was played out between the under 12’s ‘A’ team and the Under 12’s ‘B’ team. After a goalless 15 minutes, and 5 minutes of golden goal time there was no score. So it came down to penalties. With both sides scoring 4 out of 6 it was then down to sudden death and the ‘A’s triumphed. Monday saw the Dutch boys on a trip to go bowling, followed by a tour and a game at Portman Road. On Tuesday, some tears were shed as the visitors made their way home and our lads are now looking forward to the return visit in August.

The next junior event is our annual Under 9’s tournament on Sunday the 13th of May at Dellwood Avenue.

Club landmarks achieved this week:
100
appearances for Kieron Sowter, under 13’s.

Matches played weekend 21st/22nd April 2007

Under 8’s   The 8’s travelled to Sutton Heath for the last game of their first season of competitive football. The ‘A’ team ran out 4-1 winners to leave them in 3rd position in the league. They may slip down a place when 4th placed Framlingham play their game in hand against 2nd placed Witnesham.

The ‘B’s won 3-1 and are currently 2nd, however they may also slip down one place at the weekend. Whatever the result it has been a great first season.

Under 9’s    Having lost out in both matches last week to Witnesham Wasps, the 9’s still have two more matches to play. They now need to pick up points to ensure they stay in the top division next season. Both teams are currently out of the relegation zone with the ‘A’s in seventh and the ‘B’s are sixth. This week they are at home to East Bergholt.

Under 10’s    A Jordan White goal earned the ‘A’s a point at home to Claydon Sports  last weekend, but unfortunately, even a win this week at bottom side Capel Colts will not be enough to save them from the drop. The ‘B’s lost out 3-2 with both goals coming from Jace Smith. Although they will finish outside the relegation zone, the league decides promotion and relegation on the ‘A’ teams results so they too will play in division two next season.

Under 11’s    Having finished all their fixtures two weeks ago, the boys were waiting on other results to decide their fate. As things went their way, they retain their status in Division One for the big move up to 11-a-side football.

Under 12’s    Their 6-0 win in their final league match over Woodbridge Town almost guarantees a top three finish for the lads. Only Witnesham Wasps can overtake them and then only on goal difference, if they win their final two matches.

Under 13’s Girls    The girls have one more league match to play and whatever the result they are assured of third place in the table. A terrific start in their first season.

Under 13’s   Having gained promotion last season, the boys knew it would be tough in the top flight and have battled exceptionally well to retain their status. With three games left to play, the lads are in seventh place and could move up or down a position depending on their results. Last weekend they won 5-2 at home to Bourne Vale Hawks

Under 14’s Girls    The girls have two matches left to play and are currently 7th.

Under 14’s   A resounding 3-0 win over Witnesham Wasps last weekend ensures that with one match left to play the boys will finish in third place this season. An eighth goal of the season for George McCallum and one in each half for Matthew Mackenzie to make it 33 in 24 games, secured the win. This week  the boys can enjoy a match with no pressure when they play away at Wickham Market.

Under 15’s   The 15’s played their last match in Division One and brought to an end a very tough season. Having gained promotion last year the lads have found it very hard going, and will return to Division two with a wealth of experience.

Under 16’s   The 16’s entertained a Ransomes side that were above them on points before the start of play. However, by the end of the 80 minutes they were above them on goal difference and looking for a possible top three finish. An early header, followed by a penalty, both from Reece Turner got the lads off to a great start. They were quickly followed by a brace from Jordan Matthews, before Reece ended the first half with a hat trick as he lobbed the keeper. Despite the score line, Ransomes did create chances and keeper Daniel Shemming playing in a record-breaking 194th match for the juniors was called on to make several saves. Just after the break, the opposition did get a goal back but almost immediately, Reece grabbed his fourth goal and the teams sixth. Derek Grimes chipped the keeper to make it 7-1 before Reece scored his fifth as he pounced on a poor back pass. Sam Stopher rounded off the rout with a great solo run and finish. The lads now play top side Kirton and bottom side Framlingham to finish off their junior careers.

Club landmarks achieved this week:
150
appearances for Jonathan Gage, under 15’s.
150
appearances for Philippe Dale, under 16’s.
100
goals for Josh Smith, under 16’s.

Matches played weekend 14th/15th April 2007

Under 8’s   Unfortunately, no details from the 8’s last week, but The ‘A’ teams 3-0 win at Martlesham ensures that with one match left to play the boys are assured of at least 4th place in the league. The ‘B’ teams 5-1 win keeps them in second spot, and a win in their last match against Sutton Heath on Saturday could see them as champions.

Under 9’s    No match for the boys this week, next up is a trip to Witnesham Wasps. With the ‘A’ team in 8th place, their final three matches are against the teams immediately above them in the league, so points are vital in their bid to stay in Division One. The ‘B’ team are currently sixth with three matches left.

Under 10’s   After losing out by 4-0 in both of their matches away from home at second placed Ransomes. The boys now need maximum points from their last two matches to avoid relegation back to Div 2. Their quest begins at home to Claydon Sports on Saturday.

Under 11’s   The boys were at home for their last ever mini soccer matches against Witnesham Wasps sides that were above them in the table. The ‘A’ team match started with both sides playing some good football, but it was the home team that took the lead just before half time when their striker was not closed down quickly enough and he had time to pick his spot. Although they were disappointed to go in at the break a goal down, the boys rallied well in the second half and were rewarded with an equaliser when George Connor smashed his shot into the top corner of the net. Unfortunately, straight from the kick-off, Witnesham retook the lead when they capitalised on a mistake by the seasider’s defence. With just two minutes, left to play some excellent work by Sam Newman was finished off by Tony Hitchin and the boys gained what may turn out to be a very valuable point.

The ‘B’s season ended with a 1-3 defeat with the seasiders goal coming from  a Reece Clifton cross finished well by Jamie Bowdidge

With the ‘A’ team now sitting third from bottom, they can only be caught by Bildeston Rangers, who now need eight points from their last four matches to escape the drop. Having gained promotion last season, the boys will have done very well if they retain their top division status for their first season at 11-a-side. The boys are playing another 11-a-side friendly this week against Kesgrave.

Under 12’s   After their disappointment of their loss in the cup semi-final the previous week, the boys returned to league action with a visit from Claydon Sports. The first half was all one-way traffic with Ben Bullock scoring first, (his 4th in consecutive matches); this was soon followed by a 25th of the campaign for Jordan Youngs. The second half continued in a similar vein, but the lads were unable to add to the score and although the visitors scored late on the result was never in doubt. After holding the champions and league leaders St Johns until well into the second half, creating several good chances along the way, the boys succumbed to a late goal in their midweek match played at Dellwood Avenue. The lads now have just one match left to play and are in third place in the table.

Under 13’s Girls   No match for the girls last week, or this.

Under 13’s   Last week the boys entertained the unbeaten league leaders St Johns. The opposition took no time in proving why they are at the top of the table and eventually ran out 11-0 winners. Things are looking promising for the lads on the relegation front and they too will be looking to retain the top division status they gained last season. With four matches left to play, the boys know that a win against Bourne Vale Hawks next Saturday, will ensure they are safely out of the bottom two.

Under 14’s Girls   The girls have two more league matches to play.

Under 14’s   Travelling to St Johns, the boys were on a high after their terrific 6-0 win the previous week. From the start the boys were in control with central defender, Jamal Wiggins able to keep quiet the main threat from their striker. With the back line in control the boys pushed forward and were soon ahead when George McCallum latched on to a great through ball from Nick Wilding, he calmly slotted the ball home to give the lads a tenth minute lead. Before half time, the lead was doubled, as Matthew Mackenzie made it 31 goals in just 23 matches this season. After the break, Sam Boggis collected a poor clearance and let fly from 25 yards. His shot flew into the top corner leaving the opposition keeper no chance. To round off a super performance the fourth goal came from a quickly taken throw-in from Nick Wilding. Sam Boggis then passed it forward to the running Liam Butcher, his first touch and subsequent curling shot beat the keeper all ends up and resulted in the opposition manager coming over to congratulate him for his terrific finish. The 4-0 win moves the lads into third spot and a win against Witnesham Wasps or Wickham Market in either of their last two matches will confirm the place.

Under 15’s   The lads’ brief stay in division one was officially ended last Saturday when they were beaten 12-0 by the league leaders, Bourne Vale Hawks. Despite holding them at 0-0 for the first half hour, when the Hawks got into their stride their relentless pressure took its toll. With just one match left to play the lads can no longer escape the drop and they can now reflect on their valuable experience of the top flight and try to apply it next season in div 2. Their last match in the top flight is against St Johns.

Under 16’s   No match for the 16’s last weekend, this Saturday they are at home to Ransomes.

Club landmarks achieved this week:
50
appearances for Nick Duff, under 15’s.
100
appearances for Craig Chattenton, under 12’s.
100
appearances for Luke Turner, under 12’s.

Matches played weekend 31st March/1st April 2007.

A little bit short on detail this week, as I am afraid I have not been sent much information, but here goes.

Under 8’s   The under 8’s ‘B’ team currently third in the league were away from home at second placed Woodbridge Town in the semi-final of their league cup and unfortunately were beaten 3-1.

Under 9’s    With an indifferent league season behind them the boys cup form has been very good and the ‘A’ team found themselves at home in the semi-final to second placed St Johns. Unfortunately, it was a game to far and it was the visitors who progress to the final, after a comfortable 5-0 win.

Under 10’s    No match this week for the 10’s.

Under 11’s    No match this week for the 11’s.

Under 12’s   The lads became the third of our teams to exit the cup at the semi-final stage when they lost their plate semi 4-1 to Debenham. In a shock result, the division two side travelled to Felixstowe and beat an on form side who had lost just once in their last thirteen matches.

Under 13’s Girls After their good win at Witnesham, the previous Sunday, the girls were on their travels again, this time to Stowupland Falcons. Having already played their opposition three times this season, (W1, D1, L1) the game was once again likely to be close. With the Felixstowe defence holding firm and the girls dominating the attacking half of the field, they were unlucky to go in at the interval without a lead. The second period saw the girls camped in the Stowupland half and their efforts were rewarded after ten minutes when Misha McGlynn volleyed the ball home. From the resultant kick-off, the girls went in for the kill and a good move between Emily Roper and Abigail Jewkes ended with the seasiders Captain lobbing the ball over the keeper for the second goal. Other chances followed but the girls could not improve on their lead but altogether it was a comfortable and impressive performance for a team in their first full season.

Under 13’s   Our poor form in the cup continued last week with the exit of the under 13’s in their plate semi-final. After a close match away at Martlesham the boys lost out 3-2.

Under 14’s Girls   Away at Stowe Falcons, the girls must have switched off as they were taken apart 18-1 by the unbeaten league leaders. In their defence, the home side have scored 10 or more goals on eight occasions this season.

Under 14’s    The boys moved up into fourth place in the table with a comfortable 6-0 away win over bottom side Whitton United

Under 15’s   After their mauling at the hands of the league leaders last weekend, next up was a visit to Bildeston Rangers, for a rearranged league match. The boys took the lead midway through the first half, after a quick pass through from Matthew Kempson found striker, Martin Janacek. He then proceeded to weave his way past three defenders before calmly placing the ball past the keeper. The boys then dominated most of the play up to the interval, but could not manage to increase their lead. The second period saw both teams attacking well, but equally, both defences were holding firm. With just fifteen minutes left to play, the home side scrambled the ball in from a corner. However, within a minute, centre back Tom Greeves met a Liam Wainwright corner at the near post and the seasiders lead was restored. With time running out, Bildeston threw everything forward and the seasiders defence were under the cosh. Keeper Declan O’Brien, already with injured fingers from an earlier incident, was instrumental in keeping them at bay, and as normal time ran out it looked as if the boys would have their first three pointer since September. Unfortunately football can be a cruel game and in the ninth minute of added time, (yes that was correct, nine minutes), the home team scored the scrappiest goal imaginable where at least four players had a swing at it and missed before it was bundled over the line. After their terrific performance, it almost seemed as if they had lost the match at the end but they should be happy with the great effort and determination they showed.

Under 16’s    The lads continued their recent good form, (they have only lost two of their last eight league matches), with a 5-0 win at home to Brantham Athletic.

With the bank holiday weekend, none of our teams have a game this week.

Club landmarks achieved this week:
150
appearances for Shaun Sadler, under 15’s.

Matches played weekend 24th/25th March 2007.

Under 8’s   No match for the 8’s last week. This week the ‘B’ team play their plate semi-final away at Woodbridge Town.

Under 9’s   Away at local rivals Trimley Red Devils, the ‘A’s won 5-2 and the ‘B’s 3-2, unfortunately, at the moment I do not have the details of the goal scorers. This week the ‘A’s are at home to St Johns in their cup semi-final.

Under 10’s  Home to Witnesham Wasps, the ‘A’ team lost 4-1 and the ‘B’s lost 4-0. As yet, I do not have the full details, this week the boys have no match.

Under 11’s  The boys travelled to Trimley Red Devils for their penultimate 7-a-side game. Trimley’s ‘A’ team, with just one loss all season, sat at the top of the table and needed one more point to secure the title. In their previous encounter, the seasiders had lost out 7-0 so they knew they were in for a tough match. After the early exchanges, Trimley seemed to have the edge but it was our Felixstowe who opened the scoring, with a great volley from George Connor. It looked as if the lads would keep their lead into the second half, but just before the break, the home side equalised after a scrappy goalmouth scramble. The second half was a tight affair with both sides hitting the woodwork, with Sam Newman coming closest for the seasiders. At the final whistle both teams had reason to celebrate, Trimley for their title, and our lads for putting in a great performance against a side who were 27 points ahead of them in the league.

Having also lost out heavily in their earlier league match. The ‘B’s limited the damage to 3-0 in a game that saw the return of striker Jamie Bowdidge who has been out injured for the past three months.
This week the boys continue their preparations for next season, with their second 11-a-side friendly against Kesgrave Kestrels.

Under 12’s  Despite having lost just twice all season, the lads started the day in fourth place in the league, but just a point away from second. With this in mind, their trip to lower placed Kirton Kestrels was a must win match. The boys started brightly but their early periods of possession only produced a couple of half chances and the home defence worked hard to keep them at bay. Just before the half time interval, Ben Bullock struck a superb free-kick from 30 yards out, that dipped underneath the bar to give the lads a half time lead. The second half began nervously, with neither side playing any flowing football, but then another Ben Bullock effort was turned in on the goal line by Rory Hunter to make it 2-0. To their credit, Kirton refused to give up and in two identical moves down the wing, they produced two great crosses that resulted in two goals. With a draw of no use to either side, both went all out for the win and a through ball found top scorer, Jordan Youngs, who slotted the ball home for the victory. Although the win does not move the boys up in the table, as all their rivals also won, they do have a game in hand.
This week the lads play their plate semi-final at home to Debenham.

Under 13’s Girls   The girls 3-2 victory over league leaders, Witnesham Wasps moves them up into third place. Unfortunately, I do not have the full details of the match. This Sunday the girls are at home to Stowupland Falcons.

Under 13’s   No match for the lads last weekend, This Saturday they play their plate semi-final against Martlesham Spitfires.

Under 14’s Girls   Away at second placed Debenham, the girls lost out 4-0. Next up is a visit to league leaders, Stowupland Falcons.

Under 14’s   Away at top side Woodbridge Town, the boys had their work cut out from the start. That said, the boys had the better of the opening exchanges and most of the early possession. Unfortunately, as is often the case, against the run of play the home side scored directly from a corner with the assistance of the strong blustery wind. Undeterred, the seasiders continued to push forward and made more chances, but they could not convert them into goals. Just before half time, the home side made a break from defence and scored a second to frustrate the boys after all their hard work. The second half began with the seasiders still dominating the play, but Woodbridge made the most of some poor marking from a free kick and their striker headed in to make it 3-0. A penalty soon followed which they dispatched to extend the lead and a great 25-yard strike finished the scoring late on. The 5-0 score line flattered the home side and most of the spectators felt that our boys played well enough to take something from the game, unfortunately to win games you have to take your chances and Woodbridge did.

Under 15’s  Up against the league leaders, Bourne Vale Hawks, all the boys could do was to try to keep the score down. After nineteen minutes, it was still 0-0, but eventually the quality of the visitors started to shine through. Time after time, the waves of players pushed forward and they seemed to be able to score at will. The 13-0 score line was probably not a true reflection of the match and at times, our lads did get forward, and they created several good chances. A mention should also go to seasiders keeper, Declan O’Brien, who kept his concentration in very difficult circumstances and made some excellent saves.
This week the lads are away at Bildeston Rangers.

Under 16’s   No match for the 16’s last week, this Saturday they are at home to Brantham Athletic.

Club landmarks achieved this week:
100

Matches played weekend 17th/18th March 2007

Under 8’s    No match for the under 8’s last week or this.

Under 9’s   No match for the boys last week. This Saturday they are at home to Trimley Red Devils.

Under 10’s  No match for the under 10’s last week, this week they are at home to Witnesham Wasps.

Under 11’s   After last weeks good results the boys were looking forward to their matches against bottom side Sutton Heath. Unfortunately, things did not go their way. With three ‘A’ team players not available the squad was down to the bare minimum and Sutton’s bumpy pitch did nothing to help good flowing football. At the end of a poor ‘A’ game, Sutton were the victors with their only effort on goal.

The ‘B’ match was a similar affair with our lads having all the possession but going down 2-0.

Under 12’s   To remain in contention at the top of the table, the boys knew that they needed a win at home against 2nd placed St Johns. The match began with both teams up for the challenge, but after 15 minutes it was the visitors who took the lead. Just before the interval, a great through ball from Ben Bullock found Jordan Youngs, whose left foot shot found the bottom corner. With the wind at their backs in the second half the boys created more chances and the back four worked tirelessly to keep the opposition at bay. Luke Turner chased after what at first appeared to be a harmless through ball, he took a chance a got a shot off early which caught the keeper off guard. Despite his best efforts the St Johns keeper could only parry the ball and Luke followed in to score the winner. The result keeps the lads in 4th place with only one point separating them from 2nd.
This week the boys are away at Kirton Kestrels.

Under 13’s Girls    No match for the girls last week, this Sunday the girls are at home to Witnesham Wasps.

Under 13’s    The boys made the short trip to play a Trimley Red Devils side that were seven points ahead before the start of play. By the end of the match, only a single goal could separate the two teams, unfortunately it was Trimley who scored it.
The boys now have a week off before they play their cup semi final against Martlesham Spitfires.

Under 14’s Girls   No match for the girls last week, this week they are away at Debenham Leisure Centre.

Under 14’s   Having won just once in their last seven matches, the boys started their game at Locomotive Laxfield very nervously, and within three minutes, they were a goal down. However, from that point onwards the boys grew in confidence minute by minute. Some quality play in midfield allowed the strikers to get forward and chances soon followed. Despite the loss of Craig McAleer after a knock to his ankle, (replaced by George Kemp), the boys finished the first half still behind, but full of confidence. It took only four minutes of the second period for the lads to level the scores. Liam Butcher’s cheeky lob over the Laxfield keeper spurred the seasiders on and it was one-way traffic from then on. Up front, the two Matthew’s, (Soper and Mackenzie), ran the Laxfield defence ragged but finding the next goal was proving to be difficult. Eventually Matt Mackenzie’s determination paid off, a battling run from inside his own half eventually ended on the goal line. He managed to smash a cross, hard and low across the six-yard box, and a Laxfield defender could only turn the ball into his own net. Minutes later the referee blew for full time and the relief was there for all to see. The win moves the boys up into fourth place in the table.
The boys now have a week off.

Under 15’s   The lads put in their best performance for some time when they played hosts to Sizewell & Knodishall. For the first game in a while, the boys played some good football and although they were unable to match a goal in each half from the visitors, the boys should be pleased with their performance.
This Saturday they are at home to league leaders Bourne Vale Hawks.

Under 16’s   Having beaten the league leaders Kirton the previous week, the boys faced another tough test against the side that replaced them, Sizewell & Knodishall. The lads started well and created a few chances, but in a bizarre 15-minute spell, they conceded three goals all from the home sides, lone striker. After their lapse, the seasiders continued to dominate the match and in the last five minutes scored two goals. Phillipe Dale returning from injury hit the first and Joshua Smith the other. Unfortunately, the goals came too late and although it was little consolation, the opposition manager agreed that the best team lost.
This week the boys have no match.

Club landmarks achieved this week:
50
appearances for Jamie Walden, under 12’s.
150
appearances for Charles Gosling, under 14’s.
150
appearances for Nick Wilding, under 14’s.

Don’t forget Friday 23rd March, Bingo Night at Dellwood Avenue, everyone welcome.

Old football boot appeal!!!!!!
If any of your lads have old football boots that they have grown out of, or no longer want, we are collecting them to send out to Africa. We have recently sent out a kit that our lads had outgrown, (details and photo’s to follow on the web site soon), and we would love to help with some boots. They can be in almost any condition and a variety of sizes would be great.

If you can help could you please either drop them off at my house, 58 Church Lane Walton, or give me a ring on 275433 and I will gladly collect them.

Matches played weekend 10th/11th March 2007

Under 8’s   No match for the under 8’s last week or this.

Under 9’s   With the visiting Kesgrave Kestrels teams both in the top three, the boys had their work cut out from the outset. The ‘A’s after their cup success last time out were equal to the opposition early on, but it was Kesgrave who eventually took the lead. However, before half time the lads were back on level terms when Charlie Hitchin latched on to a through ball from Jack Moss and he slipped the ball past the advancing keeper. Kesgrave went ahead for a second time just after the restart, but their lead was short lived when a firm back pass bobbled over the keeper’s foot and into the net. The opposition felt they finally had the game won, when for a third time they went ahead. However, the seasiders were not ready to lie down and with the last kick of the match, Matthew Harrold fired home to share the points.

The ‘B’ match was a different affair, and despite the best efforts of the boys, Kesgrave proved to be too strong and they won comfortably 7-0.
This week the boys have no match.

Under 10’s    No match for the under 10’s last week or this.

Under 11’s    Having lost both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ games against East Bergholt when the boys played at home, the omens did not look good for the away fixtures. However, the larger sized pitch seemed to suit our lads, and the ‘A’ game started with the seasiders on top. Despite having most of the play in the first half, and playing some great football, when Sam Barber’s shot hit the bar, it appeared that it would be another one of those days when the ball would not go into the net. Just before the interval, the boys got the break they needed when Sam ‘Nugget’ Newman opened the scoring to give the boys a well-deserved lead. After the break, the boys came out and played probably their best ever half of football. The East Bergholt players were stunned as the seasiders banged in three goals in ten minutes and wrapped up the three points. Tony Hitchin scored his first of the season and the ‘Nugget’ scored twice for his second hat-trick of the campaign. To round off a fine team display, man of the match, Sam Barber, made it five. Credit should also go to the boys at the back, who with keeper Nathan Bowdidge, kept their third clean sheet.

Despite the inspiring result from the ‘A’ team, the ‘B’s struggled to get going and at the end of the first half were 1-0 behind. After a stern half-time team talk, the boys came out with renewed vigour and within ten minutes, it was all square through Nathan Gould’s strike. Unfortunately, from that point on it was the home side all the way with Luke Hall in the Felixstowe goal pulling off some great saves to keep the boys level. A last ditch, goal line clearance from defender Daniel Long just before the final whistle, gave the boys a share of the points against a team that started the day six places above them in the table.
This week the boys are away at Sutton Heath.

Under 12’s    After a 0-0 in the league and a 1-2 loss in the cup and the two teams on the same points in the league table, the third meeting of our boys against Witnesham Wasps was destined to be a close run thing. After a flowing first half, full of good football, it was the visitors who went in with a one-goal advantage. After the break, it was a different story with the seasiders dominating for most of the game and a goal each for Jordan Youngs and Sam Cole looked to have sealed the three points. To their credit, Witnesham never gave up and they rallied in the dying minutes to score an equaliser to share the points and stay above the seasiders on goal difference.
This week the lads are at home to St Johns.

Under 13’s Girls    No match for the girls last week or this.

Under 13’s    After their 10-0 defeat at the hands of Claydon last weekend, the boys needed to lift their game for their plate ¼ final away from home against Ipswich Royals. With only two points separating the teams in the table, a close match was on the cards and so it proved. Goals from Jake Eynon and Toby Spink were cancelled out by the opposition, and at the end of 70 minutes of normal and 20 minutes of extra time nothing could divide the teams.

A penalty shoot out loomed and the boys held their nerve, Terry Dean, Jake Eynon, Luke Fountain, James Green, and Kieron Sowter all scored their spot kicks to put the boys into the semi finals with a 5-4 win.
To add to their excitement, this week the boys travel up the High Road to take on local rivals, Trimley Red Devils.

Under 14’s Girls   No match for the girls last week or this.

Under 14’s   After their great start to the season, the seasiders have faltered recently and with their visitors Oak Rangers on a five game winning run, a tough match was in prospect. The first half was an even encounter with our lads playing better football than of late, but it was rangers who went into the interval with a 1-0 lead. After a good start to the second period, a Matt Mackenzie header was on course for the goal. A last ditch effort by the rangers defender, (former seasider, Jordan Warne), could only divert the ball into his own net for the equaliser. Just minutes later a good move between Nick Wilding and George McCallum resulted in a cross to the edge of the box, which Matt Mackenzie met on the volley and gave the keeper no chance. Unfortunately, the boys then seemed to take their foot of the pedal, the visitors took the advantage, and two late goals gave them the three points.
This weekend the boys travel to bottom side Whitton United.

Under 15’s   Having lost out 8-0 in the corresponding away fixture earlier in the season, the boys were not looking forward to the home match against Witnesham Wasps. After being 3-0 down at the interval, the visitors scored another early in the second half and despite this the boys put in a better second half performance. For portions of the second period the boys were on a par with their opponents, unfortunately, two late goals gave Witnesham a result that rather flattered them.
Next up is another home game against Sizewell & Knodishall.

Under 16’s   With the lads currently in mid-table, they travelled across the A14 to play top of the table and unbeaten all season, Kirton Kestrels. The quality of the opposition seemed to bring out the best in the seasiders and they produced the sort of performance they had been threatening all year. The first half was dominated by the defences, with neither side able to break the other down and both keepers were spectators. The second period was very similar, but for a fifteen minute spell, the lads pressed forward and created a few chances. The best of these saw Joe Hanley play the ball out wide to Sam Stopher, he managed to cross the ball into the box at the second attempt, and Josh Smith arrived to drive the ball home. Daniel Shemming, in the Felixstowe goal, pulled of a terrific save in the dying moments to deny the Kirton striker and the three points were ensured.
This week the lads are away at Sizewell & Knodishall.

Matches played weekend 3rd/4th March 2007

Last weekend was cup ¼ finals week for most of our teams.

Under 8’s    No matches for the under 8’s last week, or this.

Under 9’s  No match for the nines last week. This Saturday they are at home to Kesgrave Kestrels.

Under 10’s  The boys played their first home league match since the 13th of January and with only 14 players available for the two matches, the visitors Shotley Rangers were probably the favourites. The ‘A’s put in a good performance against a team who started the day three places ahead with Matthew Bury scoring after just five minutes. Just before the half time interval, Daniel Finegan scored his first goal for the team and doubled their advantage. With ten minutes to play, Matthew scored his second and secured a well-deserved three points. On the stroke of full time, the boys were denied the chance of a second consecutive clean sheet when Shotley were awarded a penalty, which they scored.

The ‘B’ team did not fare as well. Without a recognised keeper and with only the bare minimum numbers, the boys were beaten by 2-0 with Shotley scoring a goal in each half.
The boys now have two free weeks before their next match.

Under 11’s   The boys were at home for the visit of Brantham Athletic, whose two teams were both above the seasiders in the league table. The ‘A’s despite a bright start, were guilty of switching off at vital times, and found themselves 4-0 behind at the interval. That said, they had tested the opposition keeper with Josh Corbett’s header, their best chance. The second period was an entirely different affair, with the home side competing for every ball. At the final whistle, Brantham still had their advantage from the first half as both sides scored twice. After four matches without a goal, Sam Newman was back on target and William Jewkes added the other.

The ‘B’ match started brightly with both sides getting forward, and it was the visitors who took the early lead. However, within five minutes it was all square as Liam Butler lost his marker and fired home his first goal since October 2004!!!!! As halftime approached, the opposition scored their second to lead 2-1 at the interval. Immediately following the restart, the seasiders equalised for a second time, with Nathan Gould providing the finish. The match continued to flow from end to end and Matthew Pipe popped up at the far post to finish off a good move down the left, and the seasiders had the lead for the first time. With five minutes left on the clock, Brantham looked to have earned a point, when they scored on the break. However, the boys refused to give in and a good run down the right wing by Nathan Gould was finished off by Joseph O’Brien who last scored in March 2006. A fine team performance and the ‘B’ teams first win of the season.
This Saturday the boys travel to East Bergholt.

Under 12’s   No match for the boys last week, this weekend they are at home to third placed Witnesham Wasps.

Under 13’s Girls    No match for the girls last week or this.

Under 13’s    The boys lost their third game in a row last Saturday, something that has not happened since October 2004, it was also their worst ever defeat. Away from home at Claydon Sports the boys were beaten 10-0. This week they will be hoping for a better result as they are away from home again, in their plate ¼ final against Ipswich Royals.

Under 14’s Girls  No match for the girls last week or this.

Under 14’s     After just one win in their last five matches, it is only their good start to the season that is holding the boys in fourth place in the table. With confidence at a low ebb the visit of fifth placed Kesgrave Town, (who have won their last four) was not the ideal fixture. With injuries to cope with, it was a reshuffled seasiders team who took to the field. From the start, it was apparent that Kesgrave were going to take control, and by half time were well worth their two-goal lead. A notable exception to the lacklustre Felixstowe team was Jamal Wiggins who battled bravely for every ball. With a change of personnel and formation after the break, it appeared that the lads had managed to stem the tide, but eventually the quality of the visitors play shone through and they finished the match worthy 4-0 winners.
This week the boys are at home to Oak Rangers.

Under 15’s  The boys travelled to Bildeston Rangers only to find the pitch waterlogged and unplayable. This Saturday they are at home to Witnesham Wasps.

Under 16’s   With visitors, Whitton United still vying for the title, it was a tough game for the lads who are currently in sixth place. The game began with both sides having equal amounts of possession but neither able to score. However, it was the seasiders who broke the deadlock when Sam Stopher beat his marker out wide and whipped in a terrific cross. The ball was headed on at the near post by Reece Turner and Derek Grimes volleyed the ball home from close range. The visitors levelled the game just before the break after what appeared to be a foul, but the goal stood and the two teams went in at half-time all square. The second period was also a tight affair, however this time, as hard as they tried, neither team could add to their score and eventually the game fizzled out as a draw. The result was probably more satisfying for the seasiders than for their visitors, as they had only lost once in their last eight matches.
This Saturday the 16’s are away at league leaders Kirton Kestrels.

Club landmarks reached this week:
No appearance or goals scored landmarks this week, just a couple of facts and figures.

So far this season junior Seasiders teams have played 249 matches, won 96, lost 119, and drawn 34. Along the way they have scored a  grand total of 489 goals.

Matches played weekend 24th/25th February 2007.

Last weekend was cup ¼ finals week for most of our teams.

Under 8’s   No matches for the under 8’s last week, or this.

Under 9’s   In the cup ¼ finals, the ‘A’ team entertained a Ransomes side who were unbeaten this season and top of division two. The boys started well, and although they were controlling the midfield the visitors still managed to put the seasiders defence under pressure with a couple of breaks. Midway through the first half a neat through ball from Charlie Hitchin found Jake Lensen free. He ran through one on one with the keeper, and calmly slotted the ball home to give the boys the lead. The second period was a quite different affair with the visitors piling on the pressure. With twelve minutes played, a very well taken corner gave them the opportunity to get back on level terms, and they grasped it with both hands. With the bit between their teeth, Ransomes kept coming. Their efforts to grab the winner were thwarted on more than one occasion by keeper Oliver Spink who was in outstanding form.

With neither side able to force the win during extra time, it was down to penalties. Once more Oliver pulled off some terrific saves and the seasiders go through to a home semi-final against St Johns.
No match for the nines this week.

Under 10’s  Having beaten their opposition Witnesham Wasps, 2-1 in the corresponding league fixture earlier in the season, the ‘B’ team were hopeful of a win to put them into the semi-finals of the cup. Unfortunately, on the day the Wasps proved to be the stronger team and ran out 3-0 winners.
This weekend the 10’s are at home to Shotley Rangers.

Under 11’s   The under 11’s ‘B’ team had also made it through to the ¼ finals to face a trip to Division two side Whitton United. By half time, the home side were 2-0 ahead and although Matthew Pipe scored direct from a corner midway through the second half, the boys could not force the equaliser they needed.
This Saturday the boys are at home to
Brantham Athletic.

Under 12’s   After their 8-1 win in the previous round the boys were looking forward to taking on division two side, Sporting 87 in the ¼’s of the plate. Trying not to concede goals, the opposition started the match by packing out their defence. However the boys soon managed to unlock them and it was Luke Turner, wearing his dads boots, (I’m not sure if Luke has large feet or his dad’s are small), who found the net. The second soon followed, when from a corner, Jordan Youngs’ bullet of a header, left the keeper with no chance. Just before the break, Jake Green came off the bench to sweep the ball home with his left foot to give the lads a healthy 3-0 advantage. After the restart, the opposition tried again to keep the seasiders at bay by packing their defence and for a while, it seemed to work. Eventually, the breakthrough came as Luke Turner with his 18th goal in 18 matches this season, made it 4-0. The final goal came when a poor clearance from the defence landed at the feet of Ben Bullock on the edge of the penalty area; he rifled the ball back into the top corner to round off a great performance from the whole team.

The boys reward for their win is a home semi-final against another division two side
Debenham.
This week the boys have no match.

Under 13’s Girls   No information received this week from the girls.

Under 13’s   No match for the boys this week. Their Plate ¼ final against Ipswich Royals will be played in two weeks time.

Under 14’s Girls   No information received this week from the girls.

Under 14’s   Away from home at Claydon Sports, the boys had a day that they will not want to remember. A sluggish start left them three goals down in 20 minutes and then matters got worse. With a Claydon striker through into a one on one situation with keeper Ben Hall, down he went. The result was a red card for the seasider’s keeper, and stand-in Sam Boggis could do nothing but pick the ball out of the net from the penalty.         Despite being a man down, the boys approached the second half with dogged determination and although the home side added a fifth goal early on, the team stuck to their task and got some reward when Craig McAleer scored a well-deserved goal. As the game went into the latter stages, Claydon made the most of their man advantage and grabbed two late goals to leave the final score at 7-1.
This week the boys are at home to Kesgrave Kestrels.

Under 15’s   Having previously lost twice in the league to visitors Claydon Sports, the boys knew they would have to be at their best to progress to the semi finals. The match started evenly with both teams making chances but with the visitors flying in with some wild challenges. The visitors took the lead after half an hour, but with three minutes left to play Nick Duff broke through the Claydon back line and slid the ball past the keeper to level the scores. After the restart, a similar move from the seasiders found Martin Janacek through on goal; he also finished well to put the lads in front. Now chasing the game, the visitor’s game became more aggressive and two players found themselves in the referee’s notebook. With several stoppages for injuries, the referee added time on and with three minutes played at the end of the match Claydon bundled the ball in from a corner and extra time loomed.
With neither side able to add to their score in the extra twenty minutes, the tie was going to be decided on penalties.

Both teams scored their first two attempts, Claydon hit the post with their third but when their keeper saved the next from the seasiders, the scores were still level. Claydon scored their fourth and when their keeper saved again they only needed to score their last to go through. To his credit, their final penalty taker kept his nerve and they went through 4-3.
On Saturday, the boys are away at
Bildeston Rangers.

Under 16’s   Due to half term and their fixture list, it was three weeks since the boys had played a match. With the previous two meetings in the league ending with honours even, this was always likely to be a close match. Despite the seasiders making the better start, it was the home side, Whitton United Reserves who took the lead with a scrappy goal. Sam Stopher evened things up in the second period and it looked as if the boys would go on to seal the win. However the luck was with the home side when a cross floated over the keepers head and rebounded off the far post and into the net. Further chances were made but the lads could not add to the score and it is Whitton who progress to the semis.
This week the lads are at home to Whitton United.

Club landmarks reached this week:
50
appearances for Charlie Banc, under 9’s.
50
appearances for Daniel Hart, under 9’s.
150
appearances for Tom Greeves, under 15’s.

Matches played weekend 17th/18th February 2007.

Under 8’s   Last week the boys entertained mid table, Brantham Athletic. In the ‘A’ game the points were shared as the teams played out a 2-2 draw. Aaron Bull and Sam Gilder scored the two goals, which keep the team in third place in the table.

The ‘B’ match was a more one sided affair with the home side running out 3-1 winners. Keiran Brunning knocked in his 11th of the season and Connor Sorhaindo and Harry Stanbridge weighed in with the others. The win moves the boys up into second spot, just two points behind the league leaders Witnesham.
The team now have a five-week break before they continue with their matches.

Under 9’s    On Saturday, the boys played host to Woodbridge Town. The ‘A’s were up against a team that had lost just once in this campaign and had beaten them 4-0 in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season. The boys defended well and looked to have held off the onslaught, but on the stroke of half time, the visitors scrambled the ball over the line to take the lead. Woodbridge began as the better side in the second period and eventually they made their advantage pay with two more goals, to leave the final score at 0-3.

With their squad depleted through injury and absence, the ‘B’s started their match with only the seven starters and no substitutes. The woodpecker’s used their bench to good advantage and despite some valiant defending and good battling by our boys they could not keep them at bay. The visitors increased their 2-0 halftime lead to five after the restart and move into fourth place.

With the ‘B’s out of the cup, it is up to the ‘A’ team to fly the flag as they take on Ransomes, (currently top of Division Two), for a place in the semi finals.

Under 10’s   No match for the 10’s last weekend. This Saturday, the ‘B’s are at home to Witnesham Wasps in the ¼ finals of the cup.

Under 11’s   Away from home against two St Johns teams who are third in the league, there was little joy for the 11’s last week. However, despite the 0-4 and 0-5 losses, there was something to be happy about as the ‘B’ game saw the return of Jamie Bowdidge, who has been out of action since last October.  His return could not have been timed better as this weekend the ‘B’ team take on Division Two side, Whitton United in the ¼ finals of the Cup.

Under 12’s   The boys continued their great form with yet another win, (they are now unbeaten in the league since October), against local rivals Felixstowe Falcons. Ben Bullock got the scoring underway with a shot from the edge of the box, which left the keeper with no chance. The second half started with the seasider’s defence solid and the team looking to increase their lead. The second goal came from a good ball in from the right by Luke Turner; his cross was met by Luke Howard, who neatly slotted the ball home. The final score could have been higher as Ben Bullock smashed a free kick against the bar, Hunter Elliston followed in, but his header somehow went over the bar. Late on Jordan Youngs hit the underside of the bar and it appeared as if the ball had crossed the line. However, with no video replay in the Felixstowe & District League, we will never know for certain. The win keeps the boys in second place in the table.
This Saturday, the boys are at home in the plate ¼ final, against Division Two side
Sporting 87.

Under 13’s Girls   No match for the girls last weekend, this Sunday they are away at Achillies.

Under 13’s    Unfortunately I do not have the details of the boys trip to Debenham L C last weekend, apart from the final score DLC 2, Seasiders 1.
This Saturday the boys are away in the plate ¼ finals to Ipswich Royals.

Under 14’s Girls   Last Sunday the girls were away from home against a strong Woodbridge Town side and lost out 9-0.
This weekend they are at home to Boxford Rovers.

Under 14’s   Despite dominating their visitors Wickham Market in the early stages, both Craig McAleer and Nick Wilding having chances cleared off the goal line, it was the opposition who took the lead. However, soon afterwards defender Declan Harvey received the ball deep in his own half, he went on a run beating two players and lashed the ball into the top corner from 25 yards to score his first goal for the team. Unfortunately, within minutes Wickham had restored their lead after some sloppy play by the seasiders defence. Not down hearted, the boys continued to play some good football and were rewarded when a George McCallum pass found Matthew Soper on the edge of the visitor’s penalty area. He turned his marker and slid the ball through for Matthew Mackenzie to level the scores once more. Just before the break Declan Harvey in breaking down an attack, twisted his knee and was replaced by Sam Read. The second half was all Felixstowe & Walton, but with the team unable to add to the score they were getting frustrated. Soper, McCallum, Mackenzie and Liam Butcher all went close before Ben Read saw his effort hit the post, the rebound came back to Ben and he managed to get his head to the ball but once again it went just wide. In the closing minutes, a weak clearance from Wickham resulted in Mackenzie and McCallum racing to the ball, they both seemed to hit it at the same time and it flew into the net. The general consensus on the touchline was that the goal should go to George McCallum and the boys got a well-deserved 3-2 win.
This Saturday the boys are away at Claydon Sports in the ¼ final of the plate.

Under 15’s   The 15’s were up against second placed Martlesham Youth who had lost just once in their last eight matches. To their credit the boys never gave up but the opposition proved to be to strong and the final score of 8-0 showed the gulf between the two teams.
This weekend the boys have a home ¼ final match in the plate, against
Claydon Sports.

Under 16’s   No game for the 16’s last weekend, this Saturday they are away in the cup ¼ finals against Whitton United

Club landmarks reached this week:
100
appearances for Hunter Elliston, under 12’s.
150
appearances for George McCallum, under 14’s.

Matches played weekend 10th/11th February 2007.
Only two of our teams had games last week, as it was half-term.

Under 8’s   After their good results in the cup last week, the boys entertained mid table Claydon Sports, and with both the ‘A’ & ‘B’ teams on a four game unbeaten run, spirits were high. With only 14 players to choose from this week, i.e. no substitutes, the boys knew they would be tested. The ‘A’s defence kept their fifth clean sheet of the season and with two goals from Sam Gilder (14 in 15 games), and one from Charlie Brown (22 in 15 games), the boys had a comfortable 3-0 win.

The ‘B’s secured their win by keeping their fourth successive clean sheet. A goal for James O’Maley, and an own goal by Claydon were enough to give the boys their 2-0 victory. Both teams are still in third place in the table.
This Saturday the boys are at home to Brantham Athletic.

Under 9’s   This week the 9’s are at home to top of the table Woodbridge Town.

Under 10’s   The boys travel to Ipswich to play another top side, Ransomes.

Under 11’s   Also in Ipswich this week are the 11’s, who play St Johns

Under 12’s  The boys have an away match against Felixstowe Falcons.

Under 13’s Girls  At home to league leaders Witnesham Wasps, the girls knew they were in for a tough match and so it proved. Despite their best efforts, the girls were beaten 3-0.
No match for the girls this Sunday.

Under 13’s   The boys will be looking for a win when they travel to bottom side Debenham Leisure Centre

Under 14’s Girls   No game for the girls last Sunday. Their next match is on the 18th when they travel to Woodbridge Town.

Under 14’s   The boys are at home to Wickham Market

Under 15’s   The lads are at home to second placed Martlesham Youth

Under 16’s  The 16’s have a free weekend before they take on Whitton United in the cup the following weekend.

Matches played weekend 3rd/4th February 2007.

Under 8’s  The boys’ fifth and final match in their group cup competition saw them entertain Sizewell and Knodishall. The ‘A’ team needed a big win to stand any chance of progressing to the knock out stages, and having beaten their opposition 9-0 last time out the chance was there. Unfortunately, the boys started the game with the attitude that they were going to win easily, and this coupled with a very defensive line up from Sizewell meant that the first half ended 0-0. The second half was a very different affair with the seasiders’ getting their act together and starting to pass the ball well. They were soon rewarded when Charlie Brown put them ahead and a fine effort from William Edgerton-Stanbridge made it 2-0. The visiting keeper made several good saves to keep the score down, but Aaron Bull scored a third just before full time. The win means that the boys’ are in second place in their group but third placed Witnesham Wasps only need one point from their remaining two matches to clinch the semi-final place.

The ‘B’s had beaten their opponents 4-2 in their earlier league meeting, so it was not a foregone conclusion that a win was on the cards. The boys started well with Ben Read making several good chances but continually being denied. Eddie Marshall got the scoring underway when the keeper dropped his headed effort; he then reacted quickest to stab the ball home. Harry Stanbridge then made it 2-0 just before half time and the boys’ looked comfortable. The second half was dominated by the seasiders’ and just after the restart Eddie Marshall scored his second. He then unselfishly set up two chances for Kieran Brunning who finished well to make it 5-0. Rounding off a great performance from the whole team Harry Stanbridge hit a terrific strike from the edge of the penalty area to seal a convincing 6-0 win. The victory means that the boys have qualified for the semis and now wait to see who their opponents will be.
This Saturday the boys are at home to Claydon Sports.

Under 9’s   No match last week or this for the under 9’s.

Under 10’s   After their shaky start to the season, the ‘A’s seem to be turning their season around. They now have two wins and a draw from their last four matches. The latest win came away from home, against a Woodbridge Town team that started the match ten points ahead in the table. Having lost the corresponding home fixture 5-1 back in October, the boys did superbly to win 3-0. Two strikes from Ben Parker and another from Matthew Bury coupled with a clean sheet for keeper Robert Smith ensured that the seasider’s pull away from bottom side Capel Colts.

Having also been beaten in their earlier meeting, the ‘B’ team were looking for revenge. Two goals from James Casburn, in only his second match for the club cancelled out a strike from their opponents. The win means that the boys leapfrog over Woodbridge into a comfortable position in mid table.
No game for the boys this weekend.

Under 11’s   With both teams in the bottom half of the table, their visit to fellow strugglers Bildeston Rangers was a game they needed to take points from. In the ‘A’ game, the boys started well but despite their efforts, the half ended with the home side 1-0 ahead. The second half began with Samuel Barber replacing “the nugget” in attack Almost immediately it paid off, as a good three-man move ended with Sam scoring his first of the season to level the scores. After a period of play that saw lots of end-to-end football but with no end product, Sam was pushed over in the penalty area. He picked himself up and slammed the resultant penalty into the top corner leaving the keeper with no chance. Their second away win on the trot pushes them out of the relegation spots for the first time this year.

The ‘B’ match was a close affair, with the home side taking a 1-0 lead into the second half. However, after the interval it was one-way traffic with the seasider’s dominating the play. The equaliser came from a solo effort from Nathan Gould and with man of the match McCauley Versey, controlling things at the back Bildeston never looked like getting back into the match. Craig Clifton nearly snatched the winner late on but in the end, the boys were happy with a well-earned point.
The boys now have a week off before travelling to St Johns on the 17th.

Under 12’s   Arriving to play Brantham Athletic, the boys were faced with a sloping and frosty pitch that would have been more suited to skiing than football. However, after a lengthy delay play did finally get underway and the boys were definitely up for the match. In form, Luke Turner had several half chances in attack and the defensive unit of Jake Green, Hunter Elliston, Craig Chattendon, and Sam White, played well to deny the home side. At half time the opposition changed their keeper and immediately went down to the other end to score and take the lead. In the past when the boys have gone behind it has sometimes affected them, but this time they continued to play well and top striker Jordan Youngs, soon put them back on level terms. Shortly afterwards it looked as if it was going to be 2-1. Having been awarded a penalty, the delay of treatment to players and the change yet again of the Brantham keeper seemed to have got to Jordan. He ran up and pulled the spot kick wide, (his dad reckons that it was a poor kick but he wasn’t under pressure taking it). Despite the set back the boys continued to play well, man of the match, James Shenfield was superb in midfield and eventually the inform, Luke Turner broke through to score and seal the three points.
The boys now have a free weekend.

Under 13’s Girls   With the girls playing each other three times each this season, this week was a second away trip to Bacton United. The two sides had had a win each from their previous meetings but on this occasion, the Bacton girls proved to be harder to break down and they ran out 3-0 winners.
This Sunday the girls are at home to league leaders, Witnesham Wasps.

Under 13’s    I do not have the details of the boys match away at Witnesham Wasps except that they lost out 3-0. there is no match for the boys this weekend.

Under 14’s Girls  No game for the girls last Sunday. Their next match is on the 18th when they travel to Woodbridge Town.

Under 14’s   After a 3-1 defeat back in October, the boys were looking for revenge when they welcomed Claydon Sports to Langley Avenue. In what was an evenly contested first half, the visitors took the lead midway through, and some sloppy defending gave them the opportunity to go in at the break 2-0 ahead. The second half saw a change of fortunes as the seasider’s camped themselves in the Claydon half. Matthew Mackenzie got a goal back for the lads before a hamstring injury forced him to be substituted. The team continued to press forward and Craig McAleer scored from 6 yards out to level the match. They then made countless chances, but the ball refused to cross the line to give the boys the win they deserved. When your luck is out it is sometimes just not your day, and to rub salt into the wound. A 25-yard effort from Claydon hit the bar, bounced down, and in a melee of feet and bodies the ball was scrambled over the line to give them the three points.
Like most of our teams there is no match for the 14’s this week.

Under 15’s   No match last week or this for the 15’s.

Under 16’s   A busy weekend for the lads, with a league match and a ¼ final of the Ipswich Open Cup.
On Saturday the 16’s travelled to play Whitton United Reserves who had inflicted a 4-0 defeat earlier in the season. In a physical match, the lads took the lead when Sam Stopher refused to give up on a chase for the ball. He kept it in and his superb cross was headed in at the far post by Nathan Glencastle. The home side equalised with a hard and low driven free kick, but when Jordan Matthews slid in to poke home Sam Stopher’s cross, the boys took a 2-1 lead into the break. The lead was extended midway through the second period when a good move involving Nathan Glencastle, Rhodri Harston and Derek Grimes ended with Jordan Matthews volleying the ball home. An unfortunate error late on gifted the home side a second goal but the lads held on for a well-deserved win.

Having played a very tough match the previous day, Sunday’s visit from Moreton Hall in the Open Cup was probably one game too many. With the visitors sitting at the top of the Ipswich and District League and fresh after having no match the day before, the game was always going to be tough. The 3-0 score line might suggest a one sided match, but the boys gave it all they could and had Derek Grimes made the most of his one on one with the keeper it could have been different.
The 16’s now have a well-earned two-week break before the meet Whitton Reserves in the ¼ final of the league cup.

Club landmarks achieved this week include:
100
appearances for Derek Grimes, Under 16’s.

Matches played weekend 27th/28th January 2007.

Under 8’s  No full details from last weeks matches away at local rivals, Trimley Red Devils. However, the 2-1 win for the ‘A’s keeps them in 4th place, and the ‘B’s 0-0 draw keeps them in 3rd.
This Saturday both teams play their final group cup matches at home to Sizewell & Knodishall. Both teams need a win to give them a chance of progressing.

Under 9’s  A good weekend for the 9’s against East Bergholt, as the ‘A’s drew 1-1 against a team two places above them in the league. The ‘B’ team went one better with a 1-0 win that moves them up into 6th place. The ‘B’s now have 3 wins and 1 draw from their last 5 matches.
No match for the 9’s this weekend.

Under 10’s   No match for the 10’s last weekend, this week they are away at Woodbridge Town.

Under 11’s   Having played the corresponding away fixture the previous week, on Saturday the boys entertained near neighbours Felixstowe Hawks.
With a closely fought 1-0 win last time out, the ‘A’ team knew they were in for a tight match and so it proved. Despite making the better start, the visitors were unable to break down the seasider’s defence, and the best early chance fell to Sam Newman who forced the Hawks keeper to make a terrific save. Midway through the half, the Hawks finally made the most of all their possession and they took the lead, which they held up to the interval. The second period continued in a similar vein with the visitors in control, and they doubled their lead late on to secure the three points.

Unlike last week, when they were 3-0 down after twenty minutes, the ‘B’s put up a great first half performance. Nathan Gould was unlucky not to put the boys ahead when after making space for a shot he managed to steer the ball just wide of the post. The second half unfortunately was one-way traffic, with the Hawks finding their form of the previous game. Three quick goals secured the win but it could have been anything up to ten, if it were not for a superb goalkeeping display from man of the match Luke Hall.
This Saturday the boys are away at Bildeston Rangers.

Under 12’s   No match for the 12’s last week, they now travel to Brantham Athletic.

Under 13’s Girls   No match for the girls last Sunday, this weekend they are away at second placed Bacton United.

Under 13’s    After their emphatic cup win the previous week, it was back to league action in the first of four away matches. The boys returned from Woodbridge Town with the three points after a 2-1 win, (no details of goal scorers).
Next up is a visit to Witnesham Wasps.

Under 14’s Girls    No match for the girls last weekend, their next game is not until the 18th of February, when they play Woodbridge Town.

Under 14’s   With only one point separating the two teams before the start of play and having drawn the corresponding home fixture back in September, the boys travelled to play Kesgrave Kestrels with spirits high. They started superbly with four good opportunities to open the scoring in the first ten minutes. Top striker, Matthew Mackenzie broke the deadlock soon afterwards with a neat finish following a terrific through ball from Sam Boggis. The boys could have been four nil up, as in quick succession, Matthew struck the woodwork, Liam Butcher blasted wide and Craig McAleer had a shot cleared off the line. Unfortunately, Kesgrave punished them for their misses and in a sloppy ten-minute spell before the break the seasider’s conceded twice. After the restart, the home side increased their advantage as the boys began nervously. However, they were sparked into life as a wonderful through ball from Mackenzie put Craig McAleer through on goal. He rounded the keeper and despite a Kesgrave defender hooking the ball out from inside the goal, he appeared to have scored his first goal for the seasiders. Unfortunately, the referee adjudged that his shot had not crossed the line before the Kesgrave defender hooked it away and the score remained 1-3.
Not to be outdone, the lads continued to press, and a rifled shot from 25 yards by Sam Boggis beat the keeper all ends up and the boys were back in the match. They then threw everything at the home side, Mackenzie had a shot cleared off the line and Butcher hit the upright, but still the ball would not go in. As the match slipped away, a classy lob over the keeper, ala Wayne Rooney, sealed the match for Kesgrave who now leapfrog the seasiders into third place in the table.
This week the boys are at home to second placed Claydon Sports.

Under 15’s   After two poor performances which resulted in narrow away defeats, this week the boys were at home to league leaders Woodbridge Town. The boys put up a much better display in the first half and restricted a quality Woodbridge team to just two goals, and on occasions managed to get them on the back foot. Class however told in the second period, and some poor defending from corners allowed the visitors to stretch their lead to seven at the final whistle. Whilst it was not the best result, at least it was a better performance from the lads. They will all be boosted next week by the return to training of centre-back Tom Greeves, who has been out for two months with a broken wrist.
No match now for the 15’s for two weeks.

Under 16’s   No match for the 16’s last weekend, this Saturday they travel to play Whitton United Reserves.

Club landmarks achieved this week include:
150
appearances for Nick Anderson, Under 14’s.

   Roy Kempson.

Matches played weekend 20th/21st January 2007.

Under 8’s  With both ‘A’ & ‘B’ teams having won the corresponding league match earlier in the season, the boys were optimistic of repeating their victories over St Johns, in their Champions League style cup competitions.

The ‘A’ match started with the seasiders looking a bit lethargic and it was only when William Edgerton-Stanbridge scored from a tight angle that the team woke up. The second half saw a better performance but the boys struggled to create any clear-cut chances. Midway through the half, St Johns grabbed an equaliser and it looked as if the boys’ chances of progressing to the semi-finals were slipping away. However, with two minutes remaining, Charlie Brown ran\n onto a through ball and his finish left the keeper with no chance. The win keeps the boys in third place and still with an outside chance of making it to the semi-finals.

The ‘B’s also needed a win against the team who were above them in the group on goal difference before the start of play. A very competitive opening period saw lots of good football from both teams but no efforts on goal. Eventually, a mistake from a goal kick provided Eddie Marshall with an opportunity. Intercepting the ball on the edge of the area, he smashed it back into the net to give the boys the lead. Just before the break, Callum Burrows was called into action to keep out a wayward clearance from one of his defenders, but the boys went into the second half 1-0 ahead. After the break, the visitors pushed hard for an equaliser. They failed to get a single clear shot on goal as the seasiders’ midfield and defence played superbly to deny them any space. With two matches left to play in the group, the boys now top the table and are in a great position to progress to the knockout stages.
This week the boys make their shortest away trip, to play local rivals Trimley Red Devils.

Under 9’s   No matches for the 9’s last weekend, this Saturday they travel to East Bergholt.

Under 10’s  A two-week break for the boys as they had no match last week and they do not play Woodbridge until the 27th

Under 11’s  Last Saturday the boys played against their nearest neighbours Felixstowe Hawks. Considering the two teams play about 400 yards from each other, it is remarkable that up until last weekend they had never played each other in the league.

The ‘A’ game had a real derby feel to it, and it was end to end from the outset. However, with both defences playing well, chances were hard to come by and despite a couple of good efforts from Sam Newman, at the interval it remained 0-0. The second period followed a similar pattern and although both sides had opportunities, the game appeared destined to finish scoreless. As has often happened in the past, a good flowing move from the seasiders’ ended with William Jewkes feeding the ball forward to the “Nugget.” After calmly rounding the keeper, Sam slotted the ball home to give the boys a deserved win against a side who were four places above them in the table.

With only two draws in the league and a win in the cup to show for their efforts so far this season, the ‘B’ match against the team in second place in the league was always going to be difficult. Quickest off the mark and helped by some mistakes at the back by the seasiders’ the Hawks were 3-0 ahead in just ten minutes. However, this did seem to wake the boys up and from a goal line clearance by Daniel Long the ball was played neatly through to Matthew Pipe. He kept his composure to fire home and the boys went into the break with a bit more belief. The second half was a much closer affair with the Hawks only adding another goal late on in the match to seal their 4-1 victory.

This Saturday the match moves from Seaton Road Rec to Orwell School, as the boys play the return fixture.

Under 12’s  After losing out by the odd goal in their cup match against Witnesham, the boys were drawn away to division two side, Grange Park Rangers, in the Plate competition.

Four goals from Jordan Youngs, (he now has 75 for the team), and two for Luke Turner, saw the seasiders’ 6-0 up at half time in a match that showed the gulf between the two divisions. In fact, Luke could have had a couple of more goals but he selflessly set up his teammates, some of whom missed. In the second half, the boys went off the boil as their concentration wandered a little but Ben Bullock kept his nerve to add a seventh. With the team well ahead, James Shenfield took over in goal, which allowed Jamie Walden the chance to stretch his legs out on pitch for the final 15 minutes. His efforts were immediately rewarded when he was brought down in the penalty area. He picked himself up and coolly converted the spot kick to score his first ever goal for the team. With just seconds to play Rangers grabbed a late consolation goal through former seasider, Douglas Cawdron and the game finished 8-1. The boys will now play another division two side Sporting 87 in the ¼ finals.
The boys match this week against league leaders, Ransomes has been postponed.

Under 13’s Girls  On Sunday, the girls played their rearranged cup match against Stowupland Falcons. With only three points separating the sides in the league table, a close match was expected and that was the case. Sophie Crane scored for the third match running, but it was not enough to see them through to the next round as they lost out 1-2.
The girls have no match this weekend.

Under 13’s   The boys progressed in their plate competition as they overwhelmed division two side Trinity Rangers 11-1. The goals came from Terry Dean 4, Charlie Martin 3, Toby Spink 2, and one each for Mike Begg and Kieron Sowter. Their reward is a ¼ final away from home against fellow division one team Ipswich Royals.

Under 14’s Girls   After some recent encouraging results, the girls crashed 13-0 against unbeaten side Stowe Falcons. Credit to the girls for sticking to it in a very difficult league.
They now have a three-week break before their next match, away to Woodbridge Town.

Under 14’s   The boys played top of the table Woodbridge Town who have not dropped a point all season. They proved to be too strong for our boys, who despite being in third place in the table lost out 7-0.
This Saturday it is third V’s fourth, as the boys travel to Kesgrave Kestrels.

Under 15’s  For the second week running, the boys were unlucky to lose an away match by 1-0. This time it was away at Claydon Sports, where some interesting refereeing and linesman’s decisions seemed to hinder the boys in their efforts to climb up from the base of the league table. Having gone behind to a scrambled goal after keeper Declan O’Brien had clearly been fouled whilst jumping for the ball, the opposing assistants flag was continually raised whenever the ball crossed into the Claydon half of the pitch. To their credit, the boys did not rise to the bait and they kept on battling away and were unlucky not to grab an equaliser late on when Martin Janacek’s rasping shot was superbly saved by the home keeper.
To add to their woes, this week the boys are at home to league leaders Woodbridge Town.

Under 16’s   The 16’s away match at Framlingham Town last week was postponed, they also have no match this weekend.

Just a final note to say thank you to Colin Egerton for all of his work with the under 13’s. Colin has decided to step down as manager after several very successful years with the team. Hopefully, he will continue with his work for the club running his ‘soccer parent workshops’. Martin Green, who was Colin’s assistant, will take over the running of the team.

 Roy Kempson.

Matches played weekend 13th/14th January 2007.

Under 8’s  For their first game in a month, the boys would have hoped for different opposition. However, the fixtures turned up with a Group Cup match against league leaders Witnesham Wasps. With both teams having lost out 7-1 earlier in the season, both sets of boys were looking for a better performance this time out. The ‘A’s started well with a good share of the possession but it was the visitors who took the lead on five minutes with a fine strike from the edge of the penalty area. The game continued in the same vein into the second half with the seasider’s not able to create clear chances despite having the lion’s share of the ball. With ten minutes left, Witnesham doubled their advantage and looked to have sealed the win, but Samuel Gilder headed home an Aaron Bull corner and the last few minutes were all Felixstowe. Unfortunately, once more, they could not make the most of their possession and time ran out, final score 1-2.

The ‘B’s were under pressure right from the outset with keeper Callum Burrows easily the busiest player on the pitch. Despite his valiant efforts, the boys went into the second half a goal behind after the visiting striker was first to react to a loose ball in the box. After the restart, the boys started to get more into the game and mid way through the half, they equalised. A good through ball from Harry Stanbridge found front man Eddie Marshall, who took his chance well. With time running out it looked as if the points would be shared, but the visitors caught the defence on the break and with two minutes remaining, they grabbed a late winner.

With two left in the group stages, both teams still have a good chance of progressing to the semi finals.
This Saturday the boys play at home to St Johns.

Under 9’s  With both of the visiting Martlesham teams sitting above their Felixstowe counterparts in the league, the boys knew they were in for a couple of tough matches. In the ‘A’ game, the opposition started quickest and despite some valiant defending from man of the match William O’Maley, they went in at half time 3-0 ahead. As is often the case it was a game of two halves, and after the interval, it was the seasider’s who played the better football. A combination of passes between Ryan Preston and Charlie Hitchin, led to the ball arriving at the feet of Matthew Harrold. He made no mistake in slotting the ball home for his first goal of the season. Despite putting lots of pressure on the Martlesham defence, the boys could not make the second breakthrough that might have turned the match around, but still a good performance from the whole team, final score 1-3.

In the ‘B’ match, the boys always looked to be in control of the play and were rewarded when Brandon Sowter passed the ball through to striker Aiden Branton. His fierce shot rebounded out to Charlie Banc who slammed it back into the net to give the team a 1-0 lead at half time. The second period was a closer affair but the seasider’s were still looking to increase their lead, and their opportunity finally came from a Martlesham attack. Defender Daniel French won the ball on the edge of his own penalty area and started to run with the ball. By the time he had reached the halfway line, he had beaten two Martlesham players. He kept going and proceeded to take the ball around all of the opposition’s defenders and slotted the ball home into the corner of the net for his first ever goal for the team. With nothing that could top the “Frenchy Run” the rest of the game was all Felixstowe and the 2-0 win gives the ‘B’s seven points from their last four matches and moves them up into 7th place in the table.
The boys have no match this weekend.

Under 10’s  The team have been struggling for players for the last few weeks and could only field thirteen for the two seven a side games against local rivals Kirton Kestrels. In the ‘A’ game, the Kirton boys were really fired up having not played a league match since the end of November. They proved to be too strong for our lads and ran out 3-1 winners with the Felixstowe goal coming from Matthew Bury.

With a few players swapped around and Connor Savage on the pitch after playing the ‘A’ match in goal, the ‘B’s had a better time of things. Man of the match Liam Lacey got the scoring under way before Liam Weaver  (who had played the first half in goal), came out to score his first goal of the season and ensure that the boys shared the points with a 2-2 draw. New signing, James Casburn also made his debut in this match
The boys now have a two-week break before their next match.

Under 11’s  Apologies, I reported last week that just before Christmas the ‘A’ team had gained their first win of the season, when in fact they had achieved this back in October when they beat Bildeston Rangers, Oops!

After some good performances in their last two matches the ‘A’ team were optimistic despite being at the opposite end of the table from their opponents Woodbridge Town. Unfortunately a slow start meant that within five minutes they were 2-0 down, and with the boggy conditions hindering good passing football the boys had a tough task getting back into the game. A throw in on the right hand side of the pitch found Sam Newman in the box and he calmly finished to keep the team in touch. Woodbridge then restored their two goal advantage minutes later with a quick break before Sam hit his second just before halftime.
The second half started with neither side able to add to their score but as the game entered the last fifteen minutes the seasider’s began to tire on the large home pitch. Two sloppy goals later Woodbridge finished as 5-2 winners but considering their league positions it was a good performance from the boys.

With the two ‘B’ teams both at the foot of the table, a repeat of their 3-3 draw back in September was expected. However, Woodbridge decided to use the rules of mini soccer to their advantage and played two ‘A’ players in their ‘B’ side. One played the whole match in goal and the other played the first half out on the pitch, which is within the rules but it had a huge impact on the match as the out field player scored a hat-trick and set up another goal to give the home side a 4-0 lead at half time. With the withdrawal of their star player the game became a much more even affair and the boys made several good chances. Unfortunately the keeper from the ‘A’ team continued to make good saves to deny them. Woodbridge added a fifth goal late on and the boys went home feeling that they had been denied a fair chance of winning a match.
The boys now face an away, and then straight afterwards, a home match against local rivals Felixstowe Hawks.

Under 12’s  No match for the 12’s last week. Next up is a match against division two side Grange Park Rangers for a place in the ¼ finals of the plate competition.

Under 13’s Girls The girls travelled for the second time this season to play Bury Town, all the teams play each other three times in this league. They returned, as they had previously, with the three points after a 3-1 win. Sophie Crane was on target for the second match running and her two goals were enough, with an own goal, to secure the victory.
This Sunday the girls are at home to Stowupland Falcons.

Under 13’s  The boys entertained a Brantham Athletic side whose poor away form was the only thing keeping them out of the top places in the league. With only one win on the opening day of the season they came determined to repeat their 7-3 home win when the teams met in October. With keeper Joseph Carter not available, a reshuffled seasider’s midfield could not keep the visitors at bay and they went on to win 3-1. Toby Spink scored what turned out to be a consolation goal for the team.
Like the 12’s next week the boys are looking for a ¼ final place in the plate when they play division two local side, Trinity Rangers.

Under 14’s Girls  On Sunday the girls were at home to Copleston Sports College, and although Leanne Lockwood kept up her good scoring run, (nine goals in seven matches), the opposition were too strong and ran out 3-1 winners. The game also saw a debut for new signing Katie Renne.

Under 14’s  No match for the 14’s last weekend. This Saturday sees our boys, who are in third place; take on top side Woodbridge Town.

Under 15’s  With the two teams sitting at the bottom of the table it was a real six pointer, as the boys travelled to Whitton Sports. The first half saw both sides playing very nervously and not wanting to make mistakes. Unfortunately, this meant that neither keeper was tested in the slightest. The second period saw the seasider’s make more of the match and in a five minute spell they made two excellent chances. The first came from a cross driven hard and low into the six yard box from Matthew Kempson. Unfortunately, the approaching striker Nick Duff could not keep the ball down and it flew over the bar. Minutes later Shaun Sadler beat the offside trap, only to see his well struck shot ricochet off the outside of the post. With ten minutes to play, a long range effort from Whitton, (their first on target in the whole game), dipped over the keeper, hit the bar, and bounced just over the line to give them the three points.
Next up is a fourth successive away match, this time at Claydon Sports.

Under 16’s  The 16’s had no match last weekend but I have just received the details of their East Anglian Open Cup match played on Sunday the 7th. Their opposition were Bohemians from Great Yarmouth, who play in Division one of the Norfolk and Suffolk youth league.

The game played at Dellwood Avenue was a very one sided affair with the seasider’s eventually winning 7-0 and progressing into the ¼ finals. The goals came from, Phil Dale, Rodri Harston, Sam Stopher, Reece Turner, and a hat-trick from Jordan Matthews who now has eight goals in five matches since he joined the team in November.
This week the lads travel away to Framlingham town.

Club landmarks achieved this week:
Debut
for James Casburn, under 10’s.
Debut
for Katie Renne, under 14’s girls.
150 appearances
by Liam Wainwright, under 15’s.

Matches played weekend 6th/7th January 2007.

Under 8’s - No match for the 8’s last weekend, this week they are at home in a group cup match against Witnesham Wasps.

Under 9’s - We have not received the full details of the 9’s matches against high flying St Johns last weekend, but I can tell you that the ‘A’s lost 4-0 and the ‘B’s lost 6-1.
This weekend the teams are at home to mid table Martlesham Youth.

Under 10’s - To kick off their 2007 campaign the 10’s played host to high flying St Johns. The ‘A’s were facing a side that were seven places and 14 points ahead before the start of play. However, the boys were undaunted, they started well, and within two minutes were one nil up through a great strike from Charlie Kenswothy. The St Johns players were not prepared to roll over without a fight and before the interval; they had scored twice to retake the lead. The second half started with some excellent defending by Daniel Finnegan and Jordan White and with Robert Smith in goal, making some good saves. With three minutes played, Charlie scored his second to bring the two sides level, only for the opposition to re-establish their advantage four minutes later. The end-to-end play continued with Charlie grabbing his hat-trick with nine minutes left on the watch and for the third time the teams were level. With time running out, St Johns scored a scrambled goal from a corner and it looked as if they would snatch the three points. Charlie Kensworthy however, had different ideas and chased a ball down to the corner flag. The keeper came out to clear the ball but Charlie beat him to it and shot from a very tight angle to gain the boys a well deserved share of the points. Final score 4-4.

The ‘B’ team were also up against it, with St Johns ‘B’ currently sitting at the top of the table. Like the ‘A’s, the boys started brightly and a well taken chance by Connor Savage put them one up after ten minutes. Unfortunately, St Johns then started to show the sort of form that has won them the league title for the last two seasons, and before half time, they were 3-1 ahead. The boys continued to battle hard and for periods of the second half, they kept visitors at bay. However, in the end St Johns proved to be too tough and ran out 5-1 winners.
Next game for the 10’s is a local derby against Kirton Kestrels.

Under 11’s - The 11’s kicked off their 2007 fixtures with a visit from Martlesham Mustangs, who had comfortably won both matches on the opening day of the season. The ‘A’s, were hoping to pick up where they had left off in the last match of 2006 when they had won their first game of the season but they knew their visitors would present a tough challenge. With Felixstowe, having the better of the opening exchanges Martlesham slowly began to take more control of the game and it was only the performance of man of the match, keeper Nathan Bowdidge, that kept them at bay. The second half saw the play go from one end to the other, but both defences kept tight and 0-0 looked to be the only result. Sam Newman nearly sealed it for the seasider’s with a neat turn and drive that fizzed past the post late on but when the final whistle blew it was a terrific point gained for the boys and their first clean sheet of the campaign.

The ‘B’s were up against it as it was top verses bottom with Martlesham twenty-two points ahead. The driving rain made conditions underfoot very difficult for both teams to play good football and after a fairly even opening ten minutes, the visitors went ahead. Two silly mistakes later, the boys were 3-0 behind and after the interval, their opponents added three more. At six nil down the boys continued to work hard and Macaulay Versey scored a consolation goal, (his 1st for the club), before Martlesham added their seventh, final score on a forgettable performance 1-7.
This weekend the boys take on a Woodbridge side whose A’s are in second place but whose B’s are bottom.

Under 12’s - The 12’s were in for an “easy” game as they played hosts to a Kesgrave Kestrels side that were bottom of the table and without a win all season. What followed was proof that you have to take every game seriously. Within 15 minutes, the boys were 3-0 down and four substitutes came on to replace those players who were daydreaming. The changes seemed to have the desired effect as the game started to turn around in favour of the seasiders. A goal each from Jordan Youngs, Luke Turner, and Sam Cole ensured that at half time the boys were back on level terms. The second half started as the first should have done and the home side dominated the rest of the game. Jordan Youngs grabbed his second, Ben Bullock scored twice, and Jordan Loose made the final score a comfortable 7-3. The win keeps the boys in second place in the table and they are now unbeaten in the league since mid October.
This weekend the boys have no fixture.

Under 13’s Girls - We believe that the girl’s cup match at Stow Falcons was cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions last weekend.
This Sunday the girls are away from home against Bury Town.

Under 13’s - After three consecutive defeats without scoring a goal, the 13’s were glad to see Jordan Egerton back from injury for their trip to Ipswich Royals. Having beaten the home side 1-0 in their meeting back in September the boys were hopeful of getting something from the match, which also saw new signing Luke Burrett, making his debut. In the end, the Royals matched the two goals from “Reg” and the points were shared.
With the losing streak ended, the boys will be looking for more points when they entertain Brantham Athletic this Saturday.

Under 14’s Girls - The girls match this week was also a victim of the bad weather, next Sunday they are at home to Copleston S C.

Under 14’s - The 14’s travelled to play a Brantham Athletic side that had made good progress in the league since the two sides met on the opening day of the season. Therefore, a repeat of the 9-0 score line was unlikely to happen. Midway through the first half, Matthew Mackenzie opened the scoring only for the opposition to equalise after being awarded a penalty when Jordan Warne was adjudged to have fouled the Brantham striker. The second half started with the seasider’s dominating the play and Matthew settled the team’s nerves when he added a second goal to restore the lead. Moments later a Brantham free kick looked destined for the back of the net only for Ben Hall to pull off a fantastic save to keep the boys in front. Matthew Mackenzie then completed his 5th hat-trick of the season to assure the three points came back to Felixstowe. However, the excitement wasn’t over as Jordan Warne, playing in his last match for the team before his transfer to Oak Rangers, was booked for dissent after questioning a decision from the referee. This was quickly followed by a goal from Liam Butcher on his return from injury to make the score 4-1. A Brantham player was then red carded for violent conduct before the seasider’s introduced new signing Craig McAleer for his debut. A frantic end to a game, which leaves the boys in third place in the league.
This Saturday the boys have no match.

Under 15’s - The lads travelled to Brantham Athletic needing a good performance and some points to lift them away from the relegation places. Unfortunately, a very poor first half showing saw them 7-0 behind and struggling. With central defender Tom Greeves likely to be out for at least another month and with Captain Robert Craig not available, the reshuffled side could not keep the marauding Brantham midfield at bay. Improvement in the second half from some of the team, notably a fine display from Declan O’Brien in goal and William Colson in defence kept the score down, but the home side ran out comfortable 11-0 winners.
This week the 15’s are away at bottom side Whitton United for a must win match to keep their hopes alive of staying up.

Under 16’s - No league match for the 16’s last weekend, this week they were due to play Bourne Vale who have withdrawn from the league.

No players have reached significant landmarks this week so here are a few facts and figures from the season so far:

Matches played weekend 16th/17th December

Under 8’s  With the two ‘A’ teams separated by just two points at the start of play, the boys match against Framlingham Town should have been a very close affair. On a cold morning with a very muddy surface, the seasiders dominated from the outset. In the first half, Aaron Bull went close from long-range and Sam Gilder had two efforts that just went over the bar but try as they might the ball just would not go in the net. Early in the second half inevitably with their first opportunity, the home side took the lead. Caught on the break, the Framlingham striker burst through the defence and finished well. Sam Gilder got the boys back into the match with a well-taken header from a corner but once again, the opposition striker broke through to score again. The win puts Framlingham back one point ahead of the seasider’s in third place.

The ‘B’ team, with their eighth consecutive win maintain their third position in the league. With the team short of a few regulars, the boys did well to keep their good run going and Matthew Haskell put in a solid performance in defence to keep the opposition out. Midway through the first half, Kieran Brunning hit a firm shot towards goal; his effort was diverted over the line by Eddie Marshall to give the boys the lead. With the opposition getting a goal back just before the break, the second half started with both sides still in with a shout for the three points. Once again, the boys defended well and were rewarded when a long ball forward found Kieran Brunning who made no mistake and sealed the win.
After the Christmas break the team resumes their champion’s league style cup competition with a visit from Witnesham Wasps.

Under 9’s  No match for the 9’s last week, their next league game is in the New Year when they travel to St Johns on the 6th of January.

Under 10’s  The ‘A’ team still without a win this season but with three draws in their last four games, entertained bottom side Capel Colts. Matthew Bury got the scoring underway after 10 minutes, only for the visitors to equalise after a mix up in the reshaped seasider defence. Just before the interval, the boys nearly went ahead again but Daniel Finegan’s shot rebounded out off the post. After the restart, Capel’s keeper kept them in the game on several occasions before the seasider’s finally broke through. A good build up involving Jordan White and Daniel Finegan resulted in a rocket of a shot from Matthew Bury, which left the keeper with no chance. For the remaining ten minutes, the boys kept possession and denied Capel any further chances to get back into the match. A great first win for the boys, which will hopefully be the first of many.

The ‘B’s have fared slightly better this season with two wins under their belts already, so hopes were high to make it three. Having made a slow start, the boys were shocked when a long-range lob caught keeper, Liam Lacey off his line and the visitors took the lead. Just before half time, the Capel defence were in disarray and managed to put the ball in their own net to level the scores. After a stern half time team talk, the boys came out for the second half with a much-improved attitude. Within six minutes Connor Savage, who had yet to score this season, had struck twice. Jace Smith soon added another before George Greenleaf scored his first of the year to make it 4-1. Jace then added his second before he had to leave the field with an injury and despite playing the last five minutes with only six players, George rounded off the scoring with his second and the teams seventh. Final score 7-1. What a difference a team talk can make!
The boys resume after the Christmas break, with a home game against St Johns.

Under 11’s  The ‘A’ game was a real relegation six pointer as the seasider’s played host to a Sutton Heath side who started the day one place and one point below them at the foot of the table. The boys began brightly and within a couple of minutes were 1-0 up courtesy of a good strike from Sam Newman. Five minutes later, it was two nil, as Sam, returning to his form of last season, bagged his second. Being ahead seemed to relax the boys a bit too much and Sutton began to apply some pressure. It was only thanks to some good keeping by man of the match Nathan Bowdidge that the boys took their lead into the second half. After the interval Sutton managed to get a goal back, but the boys responded by playing some good football, which led to Sam Newman completing his much deserved hat-trick. The third goal seemed to take the sting out of the Sutton players and the seasider’s looked to be in control for the rest of the match.  A second goal for the visitors came too late to influence the result as the boys finished 3-2 winners.

For the ‘B’ team match, Sutton heath started 12 points and 6 places above the seasider’s, so the boys knew they were in for a battle. The first half saw  plenty of frantic end to end play, but neither side could take advantage of the chances they made. The second half continued in a similar vein until Daniel Long nearly broke the deadlock. Felixstowe’s man of the match, started his run in his own half and beat four players before forcing the Sutton keeper into a great save. With only five minutes left to play and 0-0 looking to be the final score, Sutton appeared to have wrapped up the three points when they scored. To their credit, the boys refused to give up and Henry French equalised right at the death to give the boys a well earned point against a team who were well above them in the table.
The boy’s next game is at home to Martlesham, on the 6th of January.

Under 12’s WIN MOVES TEAM INTO SECOND SPOT
St Johns  1 - 2  Felixstowe & Walton United
With only one loss in the league since September, the boys travelled away to take on second placed
St Johns with spirits high. The team started well, but with the wind and slope in their favour St Johns were soon a goal ahead. A neat pass put their striker through and although Jamie Walden narrowed the angle and got his hand to the ball, he could only divert the ball in off the post. Despite going behind, the boys continued to play some good passing football and Luke Turner came close to equalising before the break but he watched his shot just drift wide of the target.

Half time score: - St Johns 1, Felixstowe & Walton 0.

The boys started the second half with lots of determination, the longer the match went on, the more confident the boys became, and the more possession they had. Eventually, a through ball found Jordan Youngs and with his “weaker” left foot, he smashed the ball into the roof of the net. As all ten of the outfield players celebrated, it was obvious that they were not going to settle for the draw. Soon afterwards, a corner from St Johns was floated into the seasider’s penalty area, a St Johns player ended up on the floor and the referee pointed to the spot. Jamie Walden stood tall in the goal and his presence seemed to unnerve the striker as he lofted the ball over the bar. Spurred on by this, the boys continued to push forward and once more some neat midfield play set up Jordan Youngs. This time he cut inside and fired a right foot shot into the net to give the boys a well-deserved lead. With fresh legs coming on at the back to shore up the defence, the seasider’s never looked like losing their advantage and they held on for all three points.

Final score: - St Johns 1, Felixstowe & Walton 2.

Under 13’s Girls The girls maintain their second place in the league despite losing out 3-1 to leaders Witnesham Wasps. Seasider’s goal scorer was Sophie Crane.
The girls now have a break before they play Stowupland Falcons in the cup on January the 7th.

Under 13’s  No match for the 13’s last week, their next game is away to Ipswich Royals in January.

Under 14’s Girls  With no match last week, the girls now have a break until the 14th of January when they take on Copleston S C.

Under 14’s  A comfortable 8-1 home win against bottom side Whitton United will send the boys into the Christmas break on a high. Matthew Mackenzie made it 23 goals in just 12 games this season as he rattled in four. This now makes him the first player in the club to hit the 150-goal mark, a feat he has achieved in just 157 matches. A first goal of the season for George Kemp, and one each for George McCallum and Matthew Soper, added to an own goal, rounding off the scoring for the team.
In the New Year, the boys will travel to Brantham Athletic to continue their campaign.

Under 15’s  After their 10-0 friendly win in their last match, the boys travelled up the A12 to Sizewell & Knodishall with hopes high. With two players unavailable, the reshuffled side started well and were unlucky to go behind. Having had an even percentage of the play for the first 35 minutes, the boys were gutted to concede a second goal just before halftime. Chasing the game in the second half, left the boys vulnerable at the back and eventually the opposition ran out 5-0 winners.
After the Christmas break the boys play Brantham Athletic.

Under 16’s  With a larger squad to choose from this week, things were looking up for the team as they entertained Sizewell & Knodishall at Langley Avenue. With Sizewell, two places and five points ahead at the start of the game it was likely to be a tough match. Despite starting well, the lads went one behind to a superb strike that Daniel Shemming could do nothing to stop. They were soon back in the match when a corner wasn’t cleared and Rhodri Harston slid in ahead of everyone else to score his first league goal for the club. Before halftime, a fantastic piece of play put the seasider’s in front. Nathan Glencastle found Reece Turner out wide on the right, he bent a low cross in behind the defence, and Jordan Matthews calmly slotted the ball home. After the restart, it was Felixstowe all the way and Jordan repaid Reece’s earlier assist as he pulled the ball back to the edge of the six-yard box for Reece to finish with ease. With the seasider’s dominating the game, the Sizewell keeper made several saves to deny the lads before he could only parry a shot into the path of Josh Smith who volleyed the ball home. Jordan Matthews then scored his second from a cross by Sam McCandless to round off a great 5-1 win.
The 16’s now have a break until the 13th of January when they play hosts to Bourne Vale Hawks.

Club landmarks achieved this week include;
50
appearances by Charlie Wilson, under 10’s.
150
appearances by Lee Witchalls, under 16’s.
150
goals by Matthew Mackenzie, under 14’s, a club record in 157 games.

Matches played weekend 9th/10th December

Under 8’s  No match for the 8’s last week. This week they are away at mid table Framlingham Town.

Under 9’s This weeks featured match
Felixstowe & Walton under 9’s ‘A'  0 - 1  Claydon
Team: Oliver Spink (GK), Will O’Maley, Sam Bilton, Ryan Preston, Matt Harold, Sam Reynolds, Charlie Hitchin, Jake Lensen.
The game kicked off with the visitors Claydon Sports on level points but with the seasider’s just ahead on gaol difference. The first ten minutes saw Claydon dominate the game breaking through on several occasions. However, keeper Oliver Spink was in fine form, diving twice at the feet of the striker and once full stretch to turn the ball around his far post from a long-range effort.
With 13 minutes on the clock, a good move down the right flank saw the Claydon winger slide a ball across the penalty area. The incoming striker hit the ball well and Oliver stood no chance as the ball flew into the top corner.
After the restart, Ryan Preston won the ball on his own goal line and went on a run down the wing. On the halfway line he nutmegged the Claydon fullback and took the ball down to the by-line. Unfortunately, his well placed cross was scrambled away by the Claydon defence.
Just before the break, Will O’Maley and Sam Bilton made great tackles and Oliver another point blank save to deny the visitors.

H/T Seasider’s 0 Claydon 1

The second half saw a complete change of fortunes as the seasider’s took control of the midfield. Sam Reynolds and Matthew Harold started to win more of the ball and began to play it forward to Ryan and Jake out wide. Claydon’s only real chance of the half being a long-range free kick that sailed wide.
A succession of Felixstowe corners saw chance after chance come to the boys. Will O’Maley shot wide, Ryan Preston hit one from the edge of the box which was parried out to Jake Lensen, but his effort also slid the wrong side of the post. Almost on the final whistle, Charlie Hitchin who had worked tirelessly up front broke through only for the Claydon defence to surround him and deny him and the team the equaliser that they probably deserved.

F/T Seasider’s 0 Claydon 1

Felixstowe & Walton under 9’s ‘B’   2 - 2   Claydon
Team: Harley Marshall (GK), Daniel French, Daniel Hart, Luke Smout, Connor Real, Joseph Pett, Aiden Branton, Brandon Sowter

Before the game, Claydon‘s ‘B’ team were six points clear of the seasider’s.   The game began in the same way as the ’A’ match, with seven minutes  played the visitors played a corner out to the edge of the box and it was smashed back towards goal. On the way through it took a deflection off a head and finished in the back of the net.
Claydon then kept the pressure on and but for a couple of good saves by keeper Harley Marshall and some great tackling from the two Daniel’s they could have been two down.      Towards the end of the half, the boys came back into the game, with Luke Smout, Connor Real, and Joseph Pett all winning tackles.
With four minutes left in the half Daniel Hart went forward to take a corner. He blasted it into the penalty area and the keeper tried to block it and unfortunately for him, turned it into his own net.

H/T Seasider’s 1 Claydon 1

Claydon came out for the second half fired up and took the lead again within a couple of minutes. Having made two last ditch tackles, Daniel French saw the ball rebound to the feet of a Claydon player, who rifled the ball home. A minute later, it was Daniel Hart with the last second challenge who kept the visitors out.

Being behind again seemed to fire the boys up and from that, point on it was the seasider’s all the way. Luke passed through to Brandon Sowter who shot just wide, and then Aiden had an effort saved at the near post. Man of the match Joseph Pett and midfield partner Connor Real, threaded balls through to the front men and the chances continued to come. Aiden had two more shots that went just wide before a Daniel French pass found him free on the edge of the box. He turned and beat two defenders before smashing the ball into the top corner. In the last minute, Brandon had an opportunity to seal all three points, but his shot was saved by the Claydon keeper. Overall, a good point gained for the boys.

F/T Seasider’s 2 Claydon 2.

Next week the boys are away to Chantry Grasshoppers in the Cup.

Under 10’s  The ‘A’ team were up against it playing away against top side Kesgrave Kestrels. With only seven players to choose from, the boys did their best but were unable to keep up with a very strong Kesgrave side, who ran out 3-0 winners.

The ‘B’ team had only six players, so ‘A’ team keeper Robert Smith was allowed to help out as an outfield player. In a much tighter match the boys eventually lost out 2-1 but not before Robert had celebrated his 50th appearance for the club with his first ever goal.
This week the boys are away at bottom side Capel Colts.

Under 11’s  In preparation for next season, the boys played their first ever 11-a-side match last Saturday. Their opponents were a St Johns side that had already played two full sized games, (the last a 9-1 win over East Bergholt), so they would provide a stiff test for the seasider’s.
The match was played in three 20-minute sections, the first ended 0-0 with our boys coming closest to opening the scoring through Sam Newman. The second period also started quite evenly with both sides taking advantage of the extra space available on the full size pitch. Despite going behind to a shot, come cross that looped over the keeper. The boys kept their heads up and were soon back in the game when William Jewkes was pulled down in the box. He dusted himself down and scored from the spot to enable the teams to go into the final 20 minutes with the scores all square at 1-1. With the team disrupted in the final section with several changes to allow everyone a game, St Johns took advantage and three quick goals made the score line 1-4. The reintroduction of Sam Barber in midfield strengthened the team and they started to play some good football again. William Jewkes grabbed his second of the match after a good move down the left involving Sam Newman, before George Connor smashed home a Matthew Pipe cross to make the final score 3-4. Everyone seemed to enjoy the match and they are looking forward to their next 11-a-side game.
This week they are back to mini soccer with the visit of a Sutton Heath side whose ‘A’ team sit at the bottom of the table and whose ‘B’s are mid table.

Under 12’s  The boys maintain their third place in the table after a 3-1 home win over Wickham Market. No details of the scorers yet.
This week they are away at second placed St Johns.

Under 13’s Girls  No match for the girls last week. This weekend they are away for a top of the table clash with Witnesham Wasps.

Under 13’s  The 13’s set a new record this week, unfortunately it was not a record they wanted to break. They failed to score a goal in their away game against East Bergholt and the team had never drawn a blank on the scoring front for three consecutive matches. Also by losing the game 3-0, the lads lost their third match in a row, something that has not happened to them since October 2004.
With their game against Trimley this week called off the boys now have a three week Christmas break to get themselves ready for the second half of the season.

Under 14’s Girls  Last week the girls were at home to Ipswich Town Ladies. Unfortunately, I do not have any details of the match at the moment.

Under 14’s  With their league match cancelled last week the boys played a friendly against local rivals Kirton Kestrels. With only 11 players available, the reshaped side did well to hold the division two leaders down to just one goal in the first half. Early in the second period, Sam Boggis equalised before the visitors again took the lead. George MaCallum then pulled one back, only for Kirton to take the lead for a third time. Matthew Soper finally rounded off the scoring for the seasider’s to bring the scores level at 3-3.
This Saturday they are at home to bottom side Whitton united.

Under 15’s  No match for the 15’s last weekend. This week they are away at Sizewell & Knodishall.

Under 16’s  After their morale-boosting win in the cup the previous Saturday, the lads travelled to Brantham Athletic with their hopes of a victory high. However, with only twelve players available and playing on a very small pitch, they made hard work of a first half in which they spurned several good chances. That said, they did play quite well and went in one up after Josh Smith drove the ball in from the edge of the box. Early in the second half, Brantham made the most of their first and only shot on goal, by equalising. It appeared as if it might be “one of those days,” until the introduction of Jordan Matthews with 30 minutes to play. As he took his first touch on the ball he was brought down, he then leapt in the box to head home the resultant free kick, which was taken by Phil Dale. After a good run, Jordan then crossed a ball into the Brantham penalty area, which could only be directed into his own net by the recovering defender. The score line ended at 3-1 but could have been more, as Josh Smith hit a superb volley against the bar and Derek Grimes had an attempt cleared off the goal line.
This week the 16’s are at home to Sizewell & Knodishall.

Club landmarks achieved this week include;
50
appearances by, Robert Smith, under 10’s.

 Roy Kempson.

Matches played weekend 2nd/3rd December

Under 8’s  This week saw a return for the boys to their group cup games with the visit of Martlesham. The ‘A’s started well with Charlie Brown opening the scoring early on. Harley Barkes then added a second after a some good work down the right from Matthew Haskell who then scored himself to make the score 3-0 at half time. In the second period, the Martlesham keeper made some excellent saves to deny the seasider’s further goals, but eventually in the dying seconds, Charlie Brown scored his second to round off a comprehensive victory.

The boys dominated the first half of the ‘B’ game, but were kept at bay by another virtuoso performance by the visitors other keeper. However late on in the half Eddie Marshall broke the deadlock to give the boys a deserved lead. A second goal for Eddie followed the restart with Bradley Bullock the provider. With Ben Read (following in Dad’s footsteps), taking over in goal, Callum Burrows was available as a midfielder for the remaining minutes of the match.  Against the run of play, Martlesham grabbed a goal back but order was restored when Eddie Marshall completed his hat-trick to make it 3-1. Callum Burrows then finished off a fine performance by scoring the fourth goal. The win leaves the ‘B’s at the top of their group with three matches left to play.
The boys now have a week off.

Under 9’s  No match for the boys last weekend, this week they are at home to Claydon Sports.

Under 10’s No match for the 10’s last week, their next game is away from home at top of the table Kesgrave on Saturday.

Under 11’s  The ‘A’s, having lost 4-0 to  Witnesham Wasps in the cup two weeks ago knew exactly what to expect when they travelled away from home last weekend. Determined not to repeat their previous performance the boys went for it right from the first whistle. They completely dominated the first half with Josh Corbett in defence, and Sam Barber in midfield, running the show. With the half coming to a close, the boys had done everything except put the ball in the net having hit the woodwork three times. When the luck is running against you it has a habit of kicking you in the teeth and a defensive mix up gifted the opposition a goal. The second half was much the same as the first with the Sam Barber hitting the post once more. Try as they might the boys could not get the equaliser they so rightly deserved and the game finished 1-0.

The ‘B’ match started brightly but with top scorer Jamie Bowdidge still out injured the team lacked the finish in front of goal. They played some good football and looked as if this might be the chance for them to secure their first win of the season. With the scores still level after the interval, the home side began to take control and were lucky to take the lead after the referee did not call back an obvious foul throw. Two more goals followed as the boys began to tire and despite a good all round performance they eventually lost out 3-0.
Next Saturday, the boys have their first taste of 11-a-side football, with a friendly against St Johns.

Under 12’s  With a fully fit squad, the boys are playing for a place in the starting line up so a good performance was required from everyone against Claydon. Controlling the first half the boys made several chances and were rewarded when Luke Turner chipped the ball over the keeper from the edge of the area. The second half went the same way and Jordan Youngs’ doubled the lead when he rounded the keeper and calmly slotted home. Claydon surprised everyone when completely against the run of play they pulled a goal back in the dying minutes. Their keeper then saved a last minute penalty from Ben Bullock after Jordan had been fouled in the area but the score remained 2-1 and the boys are still in third place in the league.
This week the boys have no match.

Under 13’s Girls  The girls have lost their place at the top of the table after a 2-0 home defeat to Achilles last weekend. This Sunday the girls have no match.

Under 13’s  After losing out in the cup the previous week, the boys faced unbeaten and top of the table St Johns away from home. Having scored five or more goals in 9 of their previous 10 matches, the boys did well to keep the final score down to 2-0 against a very good side that won the league and cup double last season.
This week the boys travel to play East Bergholt who are one place behind them in the league.

Under 14’s Girls No match for the girls last week, this week they are at home to Ipswich Town Ladies.

Under 14’s  Despite their lower league position, the visitors St Johns had lost most of their matches by an odd goal and were not to be underestimated. The seasider’s were 1-0 down at half time and if it were not for some poor finishing it could have been much worse. The opposition continued to dominate in the second half and before long were 3-0 and well worth it. Matthew Mackenzie extended his scoring run to 11 games this season with a consolation goal late on but it was too little to late.
This week the boys are at home once more, against league leaders Woodbridge Town.

Under 15’s  With the boys game against Bourne Vale Hawks cancelled, they played a hastily arranged friendly against Kirton Kestrels. Having had a tough time in the league this season, the lads needed a morale boost and this was their chance against a team from Division two. With twenty minutes played and the scores still level, Kirton’s defence was proving hard to break down. Eventually, Martin Janacek burst through and got the scoring underway. He repeated his feat ten minutes later and then just before half time Tom Copsey added a third. With the game under control, the second half produced more of the same with Nick Duff scoring almost immediately after the kick off. Shaun Sadler then added two more goals before Martin Janacek scored his third and the teams seventh. With the Kirton players tiring, the last five minutes produced three more goals, Nick Duff grabbed his second and Martin made it five on the day with two more. A great boost to the boy’s confidence with their best win in eight seasons, 10-0.
The 15’s have a free week this Saturday.

Under 16’s  No match for the 16’s last Saturday, this week they are away at Brantham Athletic.

Club landmarks achieved this week include:
50
appearances by Nathan Bowdidge under 11’s.

Matches played weekend 25th/26th November

Under 8’s  After a two-week break without a match, the boys were looking forward to their trip to Ipswich to play St Johns. With just two points separating the ‘A’ teams before the start of play, a close match was in prospect. The first half saw the seasider’s play their best football to date, with man of the match, Samuel Gilder at the heart of all the play. Charlie Brown put the boys ahead with a fine strike before a Samuel Gilder free kick made it 2-0. Charlie then added his second of the match and his 14th of the season, in just seven games. St Johns pulled a goal back when Oliver Rose could only parry a super shot back into the path of the advancing striker. However, just before the break, Aaron Bull struck to restore the three-goal advantage. In the second half against the wind, the boys were unable to add to their score but they denied the home side any chances and ran out comfortable winners 4-1.

The ‘B’ took on a St Johns team that were a point ahead and still unbeaten this season. With the wind behind them in the first period, the boys dominated the play but were unable to make the most of their chances. However just before the break, Harry Stanbridge, with his first goal for the team, broke the deadlock and gave the boys the edge they needed before facing the gusting winds. As anticipated, the onslaught from St Johns came and they equalised after a goalmouth scramble. The boys stuck to their task, and Eddie Marshall also with his first goal, gave them back the lead midway through the half. Bradley Bullock made it 3-1 late on and the boys move up into joint second place in the league.

This Saturday the boys play the second of their group cup matches when they entertain Martlesham Youth.

Under 9’s  Away from home against local rivals Trimley Red Devils, both of the teams were still looking for their first win of the season. The ‘A’s battled away in the first half, against the gale force wind. Oliver Spink made some good saves whilst at the other end; Jake Lensen rattled the woodwork with a fierce strike. With the game still scoreless, the boys started the second half with the wind at their backs and within minutes, Charlie Hitchin burst through only to be denied by a great save from the Trimley keeper. Charlie then slipped the ball through to Ryan Preston whose left foot shot found the back of the net. The goal was enough to seal the three points, which lifts the boys off the bottom of the table to be replaced by their opponents.

The ‘B’ team had a similar start to their match with the wind against them and plenty of defending to do. However, five minutes into the match, Connor Real struck a free kick from outside the box that beat the keeper and nestled into the bottom corner of the net to give the boys the lead. Man of the match, Harley Marshall in the seasider’s goal, made a fantastic double save to deny the Trimley striker, and the half finished with the visitors 1-0 ahead. In the second period, the boys doubled their lead, when a good move between Brandon Sowter and Connor Real resulted with the ball being passed through to Aiden Branton. His strike left the keeper with no chance and although Daniel Hart hit both posts in the latter stages, the score remained 2-0 and sealed the win.  The boys now have a free week to recharge their batteries.

Under 10’s  The ‘A’s were up against a Witnesham Wasps team that were four places and 11 points ahead of them in the table. With Daniel Finnegan putting in a fine performance once again, deputising in goal for the injured Robert Smith. William Bannister came closest to grabbing the winner when his header from Matthew Bury’s free kick, hit the post; however, the ball rebounded out to safety. With neither side able to break the deadlock the score remained 0-0, a point gained for the seasider’s but probably two dropped for Witnesham.

The ‘B’s were also four places behind their opponents before the start of play, but it didn’t show as they took the lead early on with a good strike from Jace Smith. Liam Weaver made a couple of good saves to keep the opposition out and just after the half time break, Jace grabbed his second. Witnesham snatched a consolation goal late on but the boys held on for the win, which moves them up the table. This Saturday the boys have a free week.

Under 11’s  With the ‘A’ team, only notching up one win so far this season. The last match they needed was a local derby against a Trimley Red Devils side that had won all seven of their league games to date. After just six minutes the boys were 3-0 down and despite rallying a little, they conceded a fourth just before half time. Another followed early in the second period and although the introduction of substitute Sam Barber gave the team a bit more bite in midfield, they could not prevent Trimley from scoring twice more to leave the final score at 0-7.

The ‘B’s have not fared well either this season but their morale boosting cup win last weekend gave them a bit more confidence going into the match. The boys defended well, but without injured top scorer Jamie Bowdidge, finding the net was proving difficult. Having made it to half time with the score line at 0-0, it all fell apart just after the restart. Four quick goals from Trimley all but sealed the win and although the boys continued to battle hard and got a goal back, through man of the match Reece Clifton, it was the visitors who rounded off the scoring to leave the final score at 1-5.  This week the boys travel to Witnesham Wasps.

Under 12’s  No match for the 12’s last week.
This week they are away at mid table Claydon Sports.

Under 13’s Girls   No match for the girls last weekend.
This Sunday the girls are at home to Achilles.

Under 13’s  No match for the 13’s last week.
This weekend they face an away match against league leaders St Johns.

Under 14’s Girls  We new it would come eventually. The girl’s perseverance finally paid off last weekend when they made the long trip down to Essex to play Brightlingsea Regent. With Jo Dolan and Daisy Hendry making their debuts, Graham had a full team of nine and two substitutes to pick from. A hat-trick from Leanne Lockwood and two goals from Josie Haward were enough to see off the home side in a thrilling 5-4 victory. Now the girls have some points on the board we hope that this will be the boost they need for the rest of the season.
This Sunday the girls are away at Stowupland Falcons.

Under 14’s  No match for the 14’s last week.
Starting this weekend, the boys have a run of three home matches where they take on the two bottom sides, with a match against league leaders Woodbridge Town sandwiched in the middle.

Under 15’s  With a home match against fellow strugglers Claydon Sports, the 15’s had a chance to escape the bottom two, and kick-start a recovery. However, it was back the drawing board when they conceded four sloppy goals in the first thirty minutes. A good ten-minute spell, at the end of the first half saw Martin Janacek break through to score his seventh of the season, and just afterwards, Nick Duff grab his first for the team with a looping shot over the keeper. The second half was a virtual stalemate with neither team able to break down the opposing defence. Switching to three up front in the dying minutes the seasider’s piled on the pressure and were rewarded with a penalty, which was calmly dispatched by Lee Egerton. Unfortunately, the final whistle followed soon after and Claydon were relieved to have held on.
This weekend the boys are at home to top of the table Bourne Vale Hawks.

Under 16’s  No match for the 16’s last week, or this weekend

Matches played weekend 18th/19th November

Under 8’s  No match for the 8’s last weekend as their cup competition is played in a champion’s league style format. This week the boys take on St Johns.

Under 9’s  No match for the 9’s last week. This week the boys are away at local rivals Trimley Red Devils.

Under 10’s The ‘A’s were away from home against Bourne Vale Hawks in the 2nd round of the cup. With only seven players available, Daniel Finegan filled in as keeper for the first time. The home side took the lead midway through the second half, but the seasider’s replied six minutes later through Charlie Kensworthy. Having equalised, it was Felixstowe all the way throughout the remainder of normal and extra time but they were unable to add to the score. Daniel Finegan did well to save two penalties in the shoot out, however only Matthew Bury and Charlie Kensworthy were able to score for the boys and the home side progress to the next round.

The ‘B’ team were up against Capel Colts and took the lead through George Copsey after ten minutes. Capel then scored either side of half time and looked to have the match won before Liam Lacey, playing in his 50th match for the seasiders’, levelled the scores. With neither side able to break the deadlock in extra time, it was down to another penalty shoot out. All five of the Felixstowe players scored their penalties and when keeper Liam Weaver saved the last of the Capel penalties, the boys were through.
This week the boys are away at Witnesham Wasps.

Under 11’s  With the ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams having only four points in the league between them this season, the cup offered some distraction this week. Unfortunately for the ‘A’s it was business as usual, and despite the boys putting in a good performance, Witnesham scored twice in each half to win 4-0. Although the final score did not accurately reflect the match, it is the away team who are into the next round.

The ‘B’s were up against 2nd division side Bourne Vale Hawks, so on paper they were on for a comfortable win. After a couple of long-range efforts by Daniel Long were saved, it was Jamie Bowdidge who opened the scoring just before half time. The boys continued with their good form after the restart and were soon two up when Jamie bagged his second. Midway through the half, the boys were awarded a penalty but Jamie was denied his hat-trick by a fine save from the Bourne Vale keeper. A first clean sheet of the season for keeper Luke Hall and his defence should hopefully set the boys up for their next league match, which is at home to Trimley Red Devils.

Under 12’s Having played out a 0-0 draw two weeks ago in the league, the boys travelled out to Witnesham for their second round cup match with some optimism. Unfortunately, they picked the wrong day to be out of form against a well-organised Wasps team. After going one down early on, the boys rallied and defended well to keep the score at 1-0 going into the second half. A poor clearance by the keeper and a sleepy defence allowed Witnesham to nick a second and despite a late Jordan Youngs penalty, it was the home side who progressed to the ¼ finals.
No match for the 12’s this week.

Under 13’s Girls  Last Sunday the girls were at home to Bacton and although they lost out 0-1, they retain their place at the top of the table.
This week the girls are away at Stow Falcons.

Under 13’s  After a run of three successive league wins the boys faced a Witnesham side who had held them to a 1-1 draw last month. With top scorer, Jordan Egerton out with a broken wrist, the boys failed to get on the score sheet for the first time ever in their forty-seven 11-a-side matches. Witnesham scored twice to secure the win and the place in the draw for the next round.
No match for the 13’s this week.

Under 14’s Girls  No match for the girls last weekend or this week.

Under 14’s  With only one defeat this season so far, the 14’s welcomed Division Two side, Sproughton Sports to Langley Avenue for their 2nd round cup match. Two goals each from Matthew Mackenzie and Jordan Warne gave the home side a well-deserved 4-0 half time lead. The second period continued in a similar fashion with the seasider’s dominating proceedings. Matthew Mackenzie completed his third hat-trick of the season, man of the match, Charles Gosling, and George McCallum grabbed one each and an unfortunate own goal meant that Sproughton travelled home with nothing to show for their efforts.
No match for the 14’s this week.

Under 15’s  The 15’s travelled to Ipswich to play a Bourne Vale Hawks team that have won the cup for the past two years and who are also the current league champions. For the first twenty minutes, they managed to keep the home side at bay with a combination of hard tackling and constant pressure on the man with the ball. However as the game wore on, the quality of the opposition shone through and they started to score at will. To their credit the boys continued to battle right up until the final whistle and despite the final score of 12-0, the teams’ worst ever result, the boys showed what a good spirit they have by not letting their heads drop.
This week the 15’s are at home to fellow strugglers, Claydon Sports.

Under 16’s  At home to a Bourne Vale side whose league form has been poor, the 16’s produced a good display to comfortably advance into the ¼ finals of the cup. New signing Jordan Matthews put the team ahead when he scored from the very first attack of the day. Derek Grimes then made it 11 in 9 matches with a fantastic first half hat-trick. Just before the break, a great ball down the line from Sam McCandless found Josh Smith who made it 5-0. After the restart the visitors scored from a free kick before Jordan Matthews grabbed his second to make the final score 6-1.
No match for the 16’s this week.

Club landmarks achieved this week include;
50

Matches played weekend 11th/12th November

Under 8’s  No match for the 8’s last weekend or this week. Their next action is on the 25th when they take on St Johns.

Under 9’s  With the boys sitting at the bottom of the table, the last thing they needed on Saturday was a visit from third placed Witnesham Wasps. In the ‘A’ game, a lively start saw both sides make chances, but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock with a deflected shot that looped over the head of the keeper and into the net. Early in the second half, a Witnesham shot sneaked in at the near post to make it 2-0 before a quick move involving four players resulted with Jack Moss slotting the ball home to make it 2-1. Five minutes later a similar move produced the same result as Jack grabbed his second and with time running out it looked as if the boys would take an unexpected point from the game. Some great saves by man of the match Oliver Spink kept the visiting strikers at bay until with two minutes to play they were hit  on the break and Witnesham stole the three points, final score 3-2.

The ‘B’ match saw the boys up against a team that were in second place having scored 18 goals away from home already this season. Despite playing some good football, the seasiders were no match for the strong Witnesham side. Two goals in each half sealed a comfortable victory for the visitors but credit to our lads who never gave up and played their best throughout the game.
Next up for the 9’s is a second round Cup match away at 2nd division leaders, Chantry Grasshoppers.

Under 10’s  The boys made the trip over to Claydon to play a side that like them was struggling to find their best form, and with only seven players available for each team there was no opportunity to make substitutions. In the ‘A’ match, the first half was very even with neither side able to find the net. It was not until five minutes into the second half that the home team took the lead when they scored with a penalty. Ben Parker replied, with his fourth of the season to level the scores and that is how the game finished 1-1. Despite being unwell, William Bannister played on throughout the game and in the process clocked up his 50th appearance for the team.

The ‘B’s also had a very tight match with all the goals being scored in a ten minute period either side of half time. Claydon took the lead first, only for the seasiders to equalise just before the break with a goal from Jace Smith. It was the opposition who came out from the interval quickest and their early strike was enough to see them take all three points and move ahead of our boys in the table on goal difference.

The 10’s are also in Cup action this week.
The ‘A’s travel to Ipswich to play 2nd division Bourne Vale Hawks.
The ‘B’s have a trip down the A12, to play a Capel side that have yet to win this season.

Under 11’s No fixture for the 11’s last weekend.
In the cup this week:
The ‘A’s are at home to Witnesham Wasps who are one place above them in the league.
The ‘B’s are at home to 2nd division Bourne Vale Hawks.

Under 12’s  Last week the boys entertained their local rivals Kirton Kestrels. In a disappointing first half, the boys could not get their passing game moving and the score remained at 0-0. After the break, it was a different matter with a much-improved performance. Man of the match Hunter Elliston scored his first of the year, after putting pressure on the keeper as the ball was crossed in; he poked the ball home when it was dropped at his feet. Jordan Youngs then made it nine goals in ten matches, with a low shot across the keeper. Hunter then rounded off a great Captains performance with his second when he neatly turned the ball in from a Jordan Youngs corner. Three goals and a clean sheet for the defence is enough to keep the boys in second spot in the league.
This week the boys play their 2nd round Cup match away at Witnesham.

Under 13’s Girls  Unfortunately, I do not have all the details of the girls’ away match at Stow Falcons. However, I can confirm that their 1-1 draw is enough to keep them at the top of the table.
This week the girls are at home to Bacton.

Under 13’s  The seasiders, in second place, travelled into Ipswich to play third placed Bourne Vale Hawks. In a game that could have seen the 13’s win by a hatful of goals had they taken their chances, it ended up as a tight affair with the boys winning 3-2. Charlie Martin, playing in his second game for the team, continued where he left off last week by scoring a hat-trick, to make it four goals in two matches.
Also in Cup action this week, the boys are at home to mid-table Witnesham Wasps.

Under 14’s Girls  No match for the girls last weekend.
Their next match is on the 26th when they make the long trip to Brightlingsea.

Under 14’s  With their opponents, Witnesham Wasps in the lower reaches of the league table, the boys travelled hoping to take all three points. However, the Wasps had developed a plan to prevent the seasiders from adding to their 25 league goals scored so far. With six in defence and another three in midfield, they kept the seasiders at bay throughout the first half. After the break Witnesham made the most of their first chance as they scored from a corner when stand in keeper, Sam Boggis, failed to hold onto the cross. Having had all the possession up to this point, the seasiders were rocked back on their heels, but they dug in and continued to battle. Eventually they got their reward when Matthew Mackenzie slotted the ball home for his 15th of the season, after a cross from Liam Butcher. The home side continued to frustrate the boys for the rest of the match and almost grabbed a winner late on. In the end, the boys hung on for a point and remain in fourth spot.
Cup action for the 14’s as well this week. They are at home to division two side, Sproughton.

Under 15’s  Having lost their previous two league games 4-0 and 7-0, and having conceded early goals in both it was vital that the lads got off to a better start against fifth place St Johns. This they did and the boys played probably their best fifteen minutes of football so far this year. In the end, the visitors took the lead but when the lads got it back to 2-1 with a Martin Janacek penalty, the opposition started to get rattled. As the match wore on, the better team prevailed, and eventually St Johns ran out 5-1 winners. However, from the seasider’s point of view, they all played better than over the past two matches and things are progressing.

This week the boys face the unenviable task of travelling to Bourne Vale Hawks in the Cup. Their opponents have yet to drop a point in their five  league matches and have scored 35 goals, they are also the current cup holders.

Under 16’s  No details as yet from the under 16’s. However, I do know that they travelled to play unbeaten side Ransomes Sports and just lost out by the odd goal in five.
Like the under 15’s, the lads also play Bourne Vale Hawks in the Cup this week. However, at this age group, their opponents have yet to gain a point and sit at the bottom of the table.

Club landmarks achieved this week include:
50
appearances by William Bannister, under 10’s.
150
appearances by Robert Craig, under 15’s.

Matches played weekend 04th/05th November

Under 8’s The boys travelled to Woodbridge Town to take on two teams that were yet to drop a point this season. The ‘A’s were under pressure from the start and only some good defending from Josh Young and Oliver Ruffles kept the opposition at bay. Midway through the half, Sam Gilder broke the deadlock when his long-range effort dipped over the keepers head and under the bar. Before the interval, Woodbridge were fortunate to equalise, when a corner was directed into his own net by a seasider’s defender. With ten minutes to play, the home side took the lead but the boys did not give up and when Charlie Brown found himself one on one with the keeper, he coolly slotted home his chance. The draw keeps the ‘A’s in third place in the league.

The ‘B’ match was also a close affair with the seasiders having the better chances but they went into the second half with nothing to show for their efforts. With only five minutes, left to play it looked as if the points would be shared, until Harley Barkes collected the ball in his own half. He ran forward, skipped through two challenges, and neatly finished to put the team ahead. In the final few minutes, Woodbridge pressed for an equaliser, but some good defending from Robbie White and Ben Read coupled with their keeper Callum Burrows kept them out. This was the third consecutive clean sheet for the ‘B’ teams defence and the team are now in joint top place with Witnesham and Woodbridge.
This week the boys have no match.

Under 9’s No details received from the 9’s this week.
‘A’ match Kesgrave Kestrels 0—0 Felixstowe & Walton.
‘B’ match Kesgrave Kestrels 5—2 Felixstowe & Walton.

This week the boys play at home to Witnesham Wasps.

Under 10’s  After a free date last weekend, they travel to Claydon Sports on Saturday.

Under 11’s After some recent poor performances, the 11’s were up against it as they welcomed last years champions East Bergholt, to Orwell school. The ‘A’ match started with both defences playing well and chances at a premium, Ricco Dimascio in a holding midfield role being particularly effective at keeping the opposition at bay. With the scores still level at half time, the boy’s confidence grew and they looked the most likely team to break the deadlock. However, a goalmouth scramble ensued and when the ball ricocheted off the post to put the visitors ahead it was against the run of play. When they increased their lead from a dubious corner with two minutes to play and then scored again in the last minute to make it 3-0, the boys were justifiably disappointed as the score flattered the champions.

The ‘B’ team started slowly and went behind early on after a scramble in the box ended with an own goal. With Jamie Bowdidge, back in the side after a two-week absence the team looked more positive going forward and they created some good chances. Unfortunately, Bergholt caught them on the break and doubled their advantage with the half nearing its conclusion. Conceding the second goal seemed to spur the boys on and after a good passing move; Craig Clifton opened his scoring account for the season with a cool finish. The second period saw both defences playing well and neither team able to add to their score and the game finished with a 2-1 win for the visitors.
The boys have no match this weekend.

Under 12’s No details received from the 12’s this week but their result keeps them in second place in the league.
Witnesham Wasps 0—0 Felixstowe & Walton.

This week the lads are at home to local rivals Kirton Kestrels.

Under 13’s Girls No details received so far, but the girls remain in top spot.
Felixstowe & Walton 1—1 Bury Town
This week the girls play away against Stow Falcons.

Under 13’s After struggling to overcome lowly Debenham last weekend, the boys needed a better performance as they travelled away to play fourth placed Martlesham Spitfires. A goal each for Mike Begg and “Reg” Egerton cancelled out two from the opposition, before new signing Charlie Martin, in his first match, scored to seal the win.
The 13’s are now in second place and Saturday sees them up against third placed Bourne Vale Hawks.

Under 14’s Girls No details received so far.
Boxford Rovers 2—1 Felixstowe & Walton
This week the girls have no match.

Under 14’s  No match last week, the 14’s now travel to Witnesham Wasps.

Under 15’s  Two matches for the 15’s this week. Saturday saw them travel to play a Witnesham Wasps side who have been inconsistent this season. Unfortunately for the seasiders this was one of their better days and having taken the lead in the first minute they never looked back. A poor performance by the seasiders saw them lose out 8-0.

Sunday’s game gave the boys the opportunity to play on the main pitch at Dellwood Avenue in the 2nd round of the Suffolk Minor Cup. The visitors Brandon Lads made the better start and midway through the first half they took the lead with a long ball over the top, which caught the defence napping. As the game progressed the lads got more into the game and created several chances, Matthew Kempson had a shot/cross that dipped over the keeper, but the far post denied him. Martin Janacek and sub Nick Duff both had chances but were unable to beat the Brandon keeper. Man of the match William Colson battled bravely in the centre of midfield but try as they might they could not get the breakthrough they needed to take the game to extra time, final score 0-1.
Next up is a home match against St Johns.

Under 16’s  No match for the lads last weekend, this Saturday they travel to Ipswich to face Ransomes.

Club landmarks achieved this week include;
100
appearances by, Nathan Stephenson, under 15’s.

Matches played weekend 28th/29th October

Under 8’s  The 8’s were one of two teams who played who played a match on the first Saturday of the half-term holidays. They kicked off their cup campaign with a trip to Claydon Sports. Because of the small number of teams at this age group, they have decided to play their cup competition in a Champions League style format. In the ‘A’ game, the opposition started well and took the lead after five minutes. Midway through the half, Aaron Bull levelled the scores with his sixth goal in five matches. After the restart, Claydon struck twice in two minutes to take control of the match and for the remainder of the half the boys did well to contain the Claydon strikers and keep the score at 3-1.

The ‘B’ game was an entirely different affair with the Seasiders keeper, Callum Burrows, only touching the ball once and defender Sam Read on top form. Some fine build up play by Bradley Bullock set up the first goal for Kieran Bunning, and then two minutes later he doubled the advantage with a goal for himself. After the interval, Kieran made it 3-0 with his seventh of the season with a blistering drive from 20 yards. Harley Barkes rounded off the scoring when he placed his shot low into the corner for a comfortable 4-0 victory.
This week third place Felixstowe, travel to play unbeaten joint leaders, Woodbridge Town.

Under 9’s  Unfortunately, I do not have all the details of last week’s away trip to top of the table Woodbridge Town. The ‘A’s lost out 4-0, however the ‘B’s returned with their first point of the season following a 1-1 draw.
The boys’ next match is away at Kesgrave Kestrels.

Under 10’s  Again, I do not have the full details of this match, but the boys played host to a Ransomes side that were top of the table and had a 100% record. Both of our teams were beaten, the ‘A’s 5-0 and the ‘B’s 3-0.
After a free date this weekend, they travel to Claydon Sports next Saturday.

Under 11’s  The boys were up against it this week as the entertained a St Johns side whose ‘A’s are in 4th place and ‘B’s top the table. In the ‘A’ game, the visitors were quickest out of the blocks, and within minutes were three up. The boys refused to let their heads drop and started to play some decent football eventually forcing the St Johns keeper into action. Nathan Bowdidge, in goal for the seasiders, sustained a knee injury but soldiered on however he couldn’t prevent the opposition making it 4-0 at half time. After the break, the St Johns striker scored again to make it five, before Sam Newman drove one in from the edge of the box to restore some pride. Eventually, keeper Nathan Bowdidge had to come off and was replaced by Nathan Gould who made some good saves but could not prevent the opposition from scoring once more to make it 6-1.

The ‘B’ game followed a similar pattern with St Johns starting well, within 15 minutes they were 3-0 up and in control. In the second half, the seasiders started to believe in themselves and they began to play with some pride. St Johns added just one more goal in the second period and were denied more by some excellent defending by Daniel Long and Liam Butler, and some great saves by Luke Hall.
Next up for the 11’s is a visit from East Bergholt.

Under 12’s  The 12’s remain in third place after a 1-1 draw against local rivals Felixstowe Falcons. Jordan Loose scored his first of the season for the Seasiders to earn the point.
This Saturday the lads travel away from home to take on second placed Witnesham Wasps.

Under 13’s Girls Due to a fixture mix up, the girls match against Witnesham Wasps was postponed. However, the girls remain in top spot in the league and this Sunday are at home to Bury Town.

Under 13’s This must be the closest division of all this season. St Johns are still unbeaten and clear, but with the next six teams, including the seasiders, only separated by one point, every game is vital. This week the lads were at home to a Debenham side who had yet to score a point, but despite the gap in league placing the boys made hard work of things. In the end, a first goal of the season for James Green and an eleventh in eight games for Jordan Egerton, was enough to seal the win.
This weekend the boys will have to be on top form as they are away at  fourth placed Martlesham.

Under 14’s Girls Last Sunday the girls were at home to Woodbridge Town. For the third game running, Leanne Lockwood was on the score sheet scoring twice. However, it is at the other end of the field where the girls still have problems and with only the minimum nine players, when the girls get tired, unlike their opponents, they have no substitutes. In the end, Woodbridge proved to be too strong and ran out 9-2 winners.
This week the girls continue their quest for their first points, with a trip to Boxford Rovers.

Under 14’s  The 14’s also played their half-term match at the beginning of the holidays when they hosted the wonderfully named, Locomotive Laxfield. After a nervous start, the boys soon settled into their usual rhythm and began to play their normal flowing football. Matthew Mackenzie continued his run of scoring in every match this season when he fired the seasiders into an early lead and minutes later Jordan Warne made it 2-0. A rare lapse in defence allowed Laxfield to score just before half time to leave the score at 2-1. Early in the second period, a Jordan Warne penalty killed off any chances of a comeback from the opposition and Matthew Mackenzie soon added a fourth. To their credit, the visitors never gave up and they were rewarded with another goal late on, but Matthew completed his hat-trick in the dying seconds to give the lads a 5-2 win and leave them clear in second place in the league.
No match this week and then the 14’s travel to Witnesham Wasps on the 11th of November.

Under 15’s  The 15’s travelled to third place Martlesham Youth who had dropped just three points so far this season. Unfortunately the lads got off to the worst possible start when just two minutes into the match they conceded an own goal,(their third in five league games). Within twenty minutes they were three down and not looking as if they could stop the marauding Martlesham strikers. Only some excellent keeping by Declan O’Brien got them to half time without conceding more. After some stern words during the interval, the team came out in the second half with some bite and aggression and they started to close down the opposition and not let them have it all their own way. Although Martlesham added one more goal to make it 4-0, the performance was much better in the second period and the seasiders left the pitch with some pride. The game also saw Matthew Kempson become the first player at this age group to make his 150th appearance.
This weekend sees the boys with two matches. On Saturday they travel to Witnesham Wasps in the league and on Sunday they entertain Brandon Lads in the Suffolk Minor Cup.

Under 16’s  This week the 16’s in fourth place played host to sixth place Kesgrave Kestrels. The home side opened the scoring when a good move between Phil Dale and Reece Turner was finished off by Derek Grimes for his eighth of the campaign. Unfortunately two basic errors by the team resulted in Kesgrave scoring twice to take the lead. A scrambled equaliser by Joshua Smith gave the Seasiders a point, but they were disappointed not to take all three.
No match for the lads this weekend.

Matches played weekend 14th/15th October

Under 8’s
After two away games, the boys were back at home against local rivals Kirton Kestrels. With the opposition struggling at the bottom of the table, the boys were looking to take the three points in both matches. The ‘A’ game saw the seasiders dominate from the start, the midfield pairing of Samuel Gilder and Aaron Bull dictated the play and both players scored twice. Further goals from Charlie Brown, William Edgerton Stanbridge and a first of the season for Bradley Bullock sealed a convincing 7-0 victory.

The ‘B’ match was a much closer affair, despite the boys having most of the possession. The Kirton keeper made several good saves to deny the home strikers, and it looked as if it would be a day when nothing would go in. With the game well into the second period, the boys got their breakthrough, after some desperate defending and a goalmouth scramble, Connor Sorhaindo, with his first of the year, shot from close range to break the deadlock. The win was sealed soon afterwards, when Harley Barkes added the second for a 2-0 score line.
With the ‘A’s in third place and the ‘B’s in fourth, their next matches are against unbeaten, second placed, Woodbridge Town.

Under 9’s - A free week for the 9’s so their next game is in two weeks time against Woodbridge Town.

Under 10’s
This week the boys travelled to Shotley Rangers still looking for their first win of the season. With several key players unavailable for the match it was a difficult task and a goal in each half of the ‘A’ team game, was enough for the home side to take the three points.

The ‘B’ match was a different affair, a clean sheet by Connor Savage and a hat-trick from Jace Smith ensured their first win of the season. Jace has now scored in every game so far this year and has seven goals.
After the half term break, the boys are at home to high flying Ransomes.

Under 11’s
In his last match in charge, Gary Pipe took his boys away from home to play Brantham Athletic. Since gaining promotion last season, the boys have found the 1st division tough going, and Saturday was no exception. The ‘A’ game started with the home side hitting three goals in ten minutes. The seasiders first attempt on goal came just before half time when George Connor hit his shot well to narrow the deficit. The second period began in much the same way as the first and Brantham dominated. They scored six further goals before Nathan Gould grabbed a consolation just before full time, final score 9-2.

The ‘B’ team started well as Henry French passed the ball through to Matthew Pipe; his 25-yard drive into the top corner of the net was unstoppable. Unfortunately, as the game continued, Brantham took more and more control. They equalised soon after, and before half time, they took the lead, 2-1. The boys battled well in the second half and kept the opposition at bay until the last ten minutes, when Brantham scored twice to seal the victory 4-1.
Next up for the 11’s is a home match against St Johns.

Under 12’s
Having won four of their first five matches, the boys were hoping for more points as they welcomed Tornadoes to Langley Avenue. Unfortunately, in the opening fifteen minutes the opposition were true to their name as they swept through and hit the seasiders with four goals. Despite playing better football for the remainder of the match, the boys could not mount a recovery and although they kept the visitors out, the score finished 4-0.
After the half term break, the boys are at home against Felixstowe Falcons.

Under 13’s Girls - No match for the girls this week, their next game is after the holidays against Witnesham Wasps.

Under 13’s
In their fourth home match in a row, the 13’s faced fellow unbeaten side Claydon Sports. In a very tight match, the visitors took the initiative and scored early into the match. Mike Begg replied with a goal for the seasiders, only for Claydon to snatch the winner late on.

After the half term break, the boys will be looking to get back their winning form with a visit from bottom side Debenham.

Under 14’s Girls - No match for the girls this week, their next game is after the holidays against Woodbridge Town.

Under 14’s
With the seasiders at the top of the table and their hosts
Kesgrave Town near the base, nothing short of a win was the order of the day. Kesgrave produced some good early pressure but it was the visitors who took the advantage. An in swinging corner from George Kemp bounced around in the six yard area, a Kesgrave defender tried to head clear, unfortunately for him it went into his own net and the boys were 1-0 up. A few minutes later, a pass from Jordan Warne found Matthew Mackenzie; he beat his marker and slotted the ball home for 2-0. A lapse in concentration just before half time allowed a Kesgrave striker to score with a great shot from 25 yards. After the restart, the home side continued to press forward in search of the equaliser. Man of the Match, Nick Wilding, broke down such an attack and quickly moved the ball forward to Matthew Mackenzie, his cross from the touchline was collected by Sam Read on the edge of the penalty area, he controlled the ball well and fired into the corner for a 3-1 lead. By this time Kesgrave were starting to run out of steam and George McCallum and Matthew Mackenzie added two more goals to seal a comfortable 5-1 win.

Unlike most of our teams. there is no day off for the 14’s next week. Their opponents are Locomotive Laxfield.

Under 15’s
After last weeks win, the 15’s were looking for more points with the visit of Bildeston Rangers. Were it not for a poor performance from some of the team, they may well have achieved this, but with only half of the team firing on all cylinders, it was not to be. At two nil down, Martin Janacek scored to give the boys a lifeline, but early in the second half Bildeston scored twice more to seal the win 4-1.

Under 16’s
With third playing fourth, this was always going to be a close match, and so it proved. Whitton United playing at home took the lead first when a poor clearance from the keeper was sent straight back over him before he could recover his position. Derek Grimes then latched onto a Scott Parsley through ball and finished superbly to leave the score at half time 1-1. The second half was just as even with both teams making chances early on. A quick throw in by Lee Witchalls found Sam Stopher, his great cross could only be half cleared by the defence and the ball ended up at the feet of Derek Grimes. He drove the ball home to take the lead. Whitton levelled the score later on when their pacey striker broke through the defence and beat the advancing keeper. Two all was probably a fair result and it was a good game of football.

Next up is a home match against Kesgrave Kestrels.

Matches played weekend 7th/8th October

Under 8’s
Back in action after a two-week break, the boys made the trip up the coast to play bottom side Sizewell & Knodishall. In the ‘A’ match, the boys stamped their authority on proceedings right from the start. Charlie Brown scored the first, Aaron Bull and Samuel Gilder made it three nil before Charlie added his second. With half time approaching Oliver Ruffles grabbed his first of the season and the boys led 5-0. The second half continued with the seasides dominating. Aaron and Samuel scored one more each and Charlie’s two made it ten in three games and 9-0 for the team.

The ‘B’s, encouraged by the performance of their team-mates also dominated their first half. However, the Sizewell keeper was outstanding and despite making several chances, they could not break the deadlock. With five minutes, left in the half Kieran Brunning finally found the net, but to the delight of the home supporters, their team went straight down the other end and scored with their first opportunity of the game. As the game restarted after the interval, the home side went 2-1 ahead scoring directly from a corner and defeat looked a distinct possibility. Fortunately, a throw in from Connor Sorhaindo, and a long clearance from Robbie White, were met by Harley Barkes, who dispatched them both to regain the lead. Kieran Brunning then sealed the win with his second of the match, final score 4-2.
This week the boys entertain local rivals Kirton Kestrels.

Under 9’s
With no league match this week, the managers arranged a friendly against second division leaders, Chantry Grasshoppers. In the ‘A’ match, the boys, playing at home had the best of the chances but it was Chantry who snatched the lead just before half time. After the restart the seasiders were soon back on terms when Charlie Hitchin got on to the end of a through ball from Ryan Preston. Although the keeper managed to get a hand to the ball, he could not keep it out of the top corner. Charlie then extended the lead when he hit another shot low to the keepers left, which sealed the win 2-1. The ‘B’ game saw debuts for Charlie Banc and Daniel Hart and a first appearance in goal for Harley Marshall. Despite some good football and some dogged defending, the boys approached half time 2-0 down. Just before the interval, the boys struck back. A pass from Joseph Pett found Samuel Reynolds, who in turn slid the ball through to Charlie Banc who finished well. The second period saw the Chantry team continue to press and they scored twice more to win 4-1. In context, this was not a bad result as Chantry’s ‘B’ team have so far won their three league matches this season, 3-0, 5-0, and 7-0.

The next game for the 9’s is after the half term holidays when the travel to Woodbridge Town.

 Under 10’s
This week the boys were at home to
Woodbridge Town. The ‘A’s still looking for their first points of the season, had only a Ben Parker goal to console themselves with after a 5-1 loss. The ‘B’s after picking up a point last week, had a closer match but lost out 3-2. Jace Smith scored a goal for the fourth match running and George Copsey hit the other, his third strike in a row. This Saturday the boys are away at Shotley Rangers.

Under 11’s
After their promotion last year, the boys were looking for their first win when they played at home against Bildeston Rangers. The ‘A’ match started with both teams playing good football from the start. It was Felixstowe who made the first good chance with Sam Barber going close. However, it was the visitors who took the lead into the second half when they scored against the run of play. After the break, both Nathan Gould and William Jewkes tested the Bildeston keeper before Sam Newman scored his first of the year, with a shot from the edge of the area. The boys then dominated the rest of the game and were rewarded ten minutes from the end when some good approach play by Rico Dimascio and Isaac Chenery, was finished off by Nathan Gould. Final score 2-1.

The ‘B’s also started well, and despite two good efforts from Matthew Pipe and Jamie Bowdidge which were well saved, the score at half time remained 0-0. Early in the second period, a five-minute attacking spell from Bildeston left the boys 2-0 down and although they continued to battle, Jamie Bowdidge’s goal was not enough to gain them their first win.
This week the boys are away at Brantham Athletic.

Under 12’s
Having played four away games on the bounce, it was finally back to Langley Avenue to entertain unbeaten side, Brantham Athletic. After some excellent defending early on, the boys took the lead when a great pass from Sam Cole found Jordan Youngs, he calmly slid the ball underneath the advancing keeper. Minutes later, Sam Cole, playing a terrific game, found Luke Turner who doubled the advantage. Just before the break, Brantham found themselves back in the match when a corner was diverted into the seasiders net for an own goal. The second half was all Felixstowe, and a marvellous move between Luke Howard, Jordan Loose, Luke Turner, and Jake Green fed Ben Bullock for a textbook third goal. The match was wrapped up when Jordan Youngs hit his second, a shot from the edge of the box, for a 4-1 win.

The boys now have another home match against Tornadoes.

Under 13’s Girls
Unfortunately, I do not have the stats for this match yet, but the girls now top their table after a 5-0 win away at
Achilles.
The girls now have two weeks off before they play at home against Witnesham Wasps.

Under 13’s
The 13’s, hoping to extend their 100% start to the season, played hosts to Witnesham Wasps. Striker, Jordan Egerton, put them on the way to victory when he scored his eighth of the campaign. Unfortunately, the visitors managed to equalise in the dying moments of the match to share the points. A disappointing finish to the game, but the boys are still in third place in the table with a game in hand over those above them.

This Saturday the boys face another tough test at home to fourth placed Claydon Sports.

Under 14’s Girls
Because of free weeks and the half-term holidays, the girls’ next match is on the 29th at home to Woodbridge Town.

Under 14’s
With both sides going into the match unbeaten, Ipswich Town had sent along a scout to watch what promised to be an excellent game. Unfortunately, the only team playing well in the first half was the home side Claydon. Some outstanding keeping by Ben Hall kept the opposition at bay early on, but eventually a well-taken free kick into the top corner managed to beat him. With Felixstowe unable to keep possession, the home team doubled their advantage just before half time with a well-worked move. A severe talking to during the interval seemed to do the trick and the boys came out for the second half a different team. With Claydon no longer a threat in the seasiders half, the boys pushed forward. A pass from Jordan Warne found Liam Butcher out wide on the right, he beat his marker, and his cross was deftly headed into the net by Matthew Mackenzie. From this point on the boys peppered the Claydon goal, but some desperate defending meant they could not draw level. With just seconds left on the watch, the referee awarded the home team a dubious free kick, which to his credit was dispatched by the Claydon player in the same manner as the one in the first half. Final score 3-1.
Still in second place, next week the boys travel to Kesgrave Kestrels.

Under 15’s  A free week for the 15’s, who resume this Saturday with a home match against Bildeston Rangers.

Under 16’s
The last time this group of players failed to score in a match and lost was in April 2005, so they were very disappointed to lose out 4-0 to Whitton United Reserves. Two nil down at half time they swapped a defender for an extra striker, sometimes it pays off and sometimes not. Unfortunately, this time it was the latter.
The lads will have to bounce back quickly, as this week they are away at unbeaten Whitton United.

Unfortunately, due to work commitments, Gary Pipe has decided that he will have to step down from his position as manager of the under 11’s. His erstwhile assistant Nigel Long, has agreed to take over the team and we wish him continued success.  On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank Gary for all of his hard work over the last few years and I am sure he will continue to support the boys.

Matches played weekend 30th September/1st October

Under 8’s - No match for the 8’s this week; next up is an away match against Sizewell & Knodishall.

Under 9’s - A bye in the cup means the boys now have a three-week break before their next game, away at Woodbridge Town.

Under 10’s - Also with a bye in the cup, the boys play hosts to Woodbridge Town next Saturday.

Under 11’s - Bildeston Rangers at home are the next opponents for the 11’s as they also received a bye in the 1st round of the cup.

Under 12’s - Also with a bye in the cup, the 12’s arranged to bring forward their away league match against Woodbridge Town. In a scrappy first half on a tight pitch, the home side appeared to have taken the lead when the seasiders’ linesman signalled that the ball had crossed the goal line. However, the referee disagreed and waved play on. Minutes later, Jordan Youngs chested the ball down and slotted it into the corner of the net only for the ref to disallow his goal for handball. Just before the break, Jordan finally broke the deadlock when he headed in a Ben Bullock corner at the near post. After the restart, a mistake at the back allowed Woodbridge to equalise. Eventually the boys sealed the win they deserved when Luke Turner latched onto a through ball and rounded the keeper to score his 7th goal in 6 matches. Having played four away matches in succession, the boys are now joint top of the table.
Next week the boys start a run of three home matches when they entertain Brantham Athletic.

Under 13’s Girls - No game for the girls this week, next week they are away at Achillies.

Under 13’s - Yet another team with a bye in the cup, so next week the boys face Witnesham Wasps at home.

Under 14’s Girls - Playing away from home and with a player short, the girls were always going to be up against it. With Copleston at full strength, to hold them to just 5-2 was a good performance. The girls now have three free weeks to try to rebuild before they meet Woodbridge Town.

Under 14’s - It looks like we rigged the draw for the cup but yet another Felixstowe side has a bye. Next Saturday the boys travel to take on Claydon Sports.

Under 15’s - With a bye into the 2nd round of the cup, the 15’s took the opportunity to play a friendly against Framlingham Town. The match gave the managers the chance to try some players in different positions and to give a run out to new signing Jake McCarthy. With both teams taking their chances in the first half, the seasiders went ahead when a Robert Craig cross was headed in at the near post by Shaun Sadler. Framlingham then equalised, before an individual run and strike by Martin Janacek restored the advantage. Again, the visitors replied, and they then took the lead just before half time. Almost immediately, a long-range effort from Liam Wainwright brought the home side level going into the second half. After the break, changes that saw both centre backs and central midfielders replaced unsettled the home side and they conceded twice, despite some excellent keeping by Declan O’Brien in the home goal. Irrespective of the score, it was a good workout for the team who now have a free weekend before they take on Bildeston Rangers in the league on the 7th

Under 16’s - The last of our teams with a bye, next week the 16’s are at home in the league to Whitton United Reserves.

Matches played weekend 23/24th September

Under 8’s - No match for the 8’s last weekend or next. Their next action is on the 7th of October away at Sizewell & Knodishall.

Under 9’s - No stats received at this time, but playing away at Martlesham, the ‘A’ team drew their match 2-2, and the ‘B’s lost out 3-2.

Under 10’s
The 10’s made the short trip across the A14 to play promoted side and local rivals Kirton Kestrels. The ‘A’ match saw Kirton make the better start and they took the lead after just eight minutes. However, a quick reply by Charlie Kensworthy, his third in three games, brought the seasiders back level. Just before the break an unfortunate own goal meant that the home side took the advantage into the second half. The game resumed with neither side able to add to their score and Felixstowe unlucky not to equalise. With just five minutes left on the clock, Kirton got the break they needed and increased their lead; they then added another just before the final whistle to leave the final score at 4-1.

The ‘B’ match was very a very tight affair right from the start, with a goalless first half. With six minutes played in the second, George Copsey, playing in his 50th game for the team, broke the deadlock only for Kirton to draw level soon afterwards. With five minutes left to play, Jace Smith put the boys back in front with his third of the season, but again, Kirton hit back almost immediately. The final minutes saw the home side go all out for the win and only some fine goalkeeping, by man of the match Liam Weaver, managed to keep them out to secure a well-earned point.
With a bye in the 1st round of the cup this week, the boy’s next game is at home to Woodbridge on the 7th of October.

Under 11’s
After a disappointing start to their Division one campaign last week, the  under 11’s played host to a Woodbridge Town side, whose ‘A’ team had taken maximum points so far. No official details received yet, but the ‘A’s lost out 2-1 and the ‘B’s managed a 3-3 draw.

Under 12’s - No report received at this time but the 12’s travelled to Wickham Market and returned with the three points after a 4-1 win.

Under 13’s Girls
The girls, in their first ever league season, made it two wins from three matches with a 2-1 away win against
Bacton. Next Sunday the girls are at home to Stowe Falcons ‘B’.

Under 13’s - The boys match against Brantham Athletic was postponed, until later in the season.

Under 14’s Girls
After their heavy defeat last week, the girls played their first 9-a-side home match against Debenham L C. Still with only the minimum nine players and adapting to the bigger pitch, the girls put up a better display this week. Despite their 9-2 loss, they had a couple of goals to cheer from Briley Coates and Leanne Lockwood.    The girl’s next opponents are Copleston S C.

Under 14’s
The unbeaten under 14’s, played host to a Kesgrave Kestrels team who were on a high after their 4-0 win the previous week. During the warm up, Matthew Soper aggravated a groin injury and was unable to start, leaving Andy with only 12 players available. As the game progressed, the seasiders had the best of the early exchanges and were soon rewarded with a goal. Liam Butcher crossed from out wide on the left for Matthew Mackenzie to score his eighth goal in his last five starts. The goal seemed to spur their opponents on and after some sustained pressure, they equalised when keeper Ben Hall spilled a long range shot at the feet of the Kesgrave striker who took his chance well. Unfortunately, soon afterwards, another similar incident resulted in the visitors taking the lead when Ben fumbled a cross. The equaliser nearly came when Matthew Mackenzie burst through the defence and appeared to be brought down by the keeper. However, the referee, who was way behind play, deemed it a fair challenge and waved play on. In the next attack, Matthew combined well with George McCallum to put Jordan Warne through on goal, he was then brought down in the penalty area and this time, the referee who was better placed, awarded the spot kick.
Jordan picked himself up and calmly put the ball into the left hand corner of the net to level the scores. As halftime approached, Liam Butcher was forced to leave the field with a back injury, which left the team with no substitutes for the second half. The second period was end-to-end stuff, with the Kesgrave No 4 causing all sorts of problems for the seasiders defence. A rearrangement of the formation gave man of the match, Sam Boggis a marking job to do on the danger man and from that point on he struggled to make an impact. Both Matthew and George up front kept the Kesgrave keeper busy and Ben Hall made up for his earlier errors with some fine saves. Felixstowe did have a late chance to wrap up the match when the keeper appeared to handle the ball outside the area in an attempt to stop Matthew Mackenzie breaking through, but overall a draw was probably a fair result for both teams. Final score, 2-2.
Next week the boys have a bye in the first round of the cup so no match.

Under 15’s
With two defeats in their first two matches in Division One, the boys were looking for a better performance at home to Whitton Sports. They didn’t disappoint, producing a vastly better display than the one that saw them beaten 8-0 the previous Saturday. With sixteen minutes played, a cross from wide on the right from Matthew Kempson was headed home beautifully by Martin Janacek. Ten minutes later it was 2-0 when cutting in from the wing, Matthew drilled the ball under the approaching keeper to double the advantage. Declan O’Brien playing his first match for the seasiders in goal, made some fantastic saves before he was finally beaten by a fluke own goal that ricocheted of his chest as he ran to claw it back off the line. The second half started with the opposition getting a bit more of a grip on the match, but unable to capitalise with a goal. With twenty minutes to play, Shaun Sadler kept his composure well to fire home and make it 3-1. Then the game was effectively over when two minutes later Lee Egerton made it two goals in three matches with a great strike across the keeper. With ten minutes left, Martin Janacek scored after an individual run and cool finish, which put the icing on the cake. Mention should also go to the midfield and back four, who worked tirelessly to keep the opposition at bay.
The lads also have a bye in the cup this week, so they are playing a friendly against Framlingham Town.

Under 16’s
Having won their opening match last week by the odd goal in five, the lads made the most of a poor display by their hosts Bourne Vale. From their first attack a neat through pass found Derek Grimes who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper for 1-0. The second soon followed when Josh Smith collected the ball in his own penalty area, he travelled the length of the pitch, beat the opposing full back, and chipped the ball over the keeper. The first two scorers then combined with a neat move, which resulted in another chip over the stranded keeper, this time from Derek. Not to be outdone, Josh then scored his second and the teams fourth, when he finished off a nice move started by Nathan Glencastle. Getting forward from his left back position, Lee Witchalls hit a 35-yard screamer that the keeper couldn’t hold to make it 5-0. The sixth came from a superb cross by Derek Grimes, which was headed in by Scott Parsley, who then quickly added the seventh, with a low drive into the corner. After the half time break, the seasiders continued to press forward but for whatever reason the goals would not come. Eventually, the eighth and final goal came from a player making his debut in the team; Sam Stopher hit a low drive past the keeper from the edge of the area to round off a great performance. Final score 8-0.
Yet another of our sides with a bye in the cup so no match for the 16’s this week.

Club landmarks achieved this week include:
100th

50

Matches played weekend 16/17th September

Under 8’s
After last weeks great start the boys were brought back down to earth with a bump. In the ‘A’ match Witnesham scored early on and Felixstowe heads dropped, before they could recover, the home side had banged in three more and established an unassailable lead. Before the interval, Charlie Brown slotted the ball home to make it 4-1, and the boys started to rally. The second half was more competitive and the boys started to push forward to try to claw back to score. Unfortunately, this exposed them at the back and despite some fine defending by MoM Mathew Haskell; Witnesham added three more goals to leave the final score at 7-1.

The first half of the ‘B’ game was a tight affair with Witnesham taking the lead before a Kieran Brunning penalty levelled the scores. Some great keeping by Callum Burrows kept the opposition at bay until just before the break when they managed to take the lead 2-1. The second half saw Witnesham step up a gear and they went on to dominate the remainder of the game to equal the score of the ‘A’ game 7-1. Credit should go to the lads who despite the score continued to battle to the end of both matches.
No match for the 8’s this week.

Under 9’s
With their match against East Bergholt postponed, the boys played host in a friendly match to Bildeston Rangers. In the ‘A’ game, a single goal from Will O’Maley was enough to separate the sides, whilst in the ‘B’ game, the win was more convincing. A brace each for Aiden Branton and Freddie McDade and one each for Brandon Sowter and Harley Marshall ensured a comfortable 6–1 win.
Next week the boys travel to Martlesham.

Under 10’s
After their tough opening league match last week, the 10’s bounced back in a hastily arranged friendly against Wickham Market. The ‘A’ game was a real confidence booster as the boys ran riot in the first half. Ben Parker got the scoring underway after four minutes, before Matthew Bury scored twice in quick succession to make it 3-0. New signing Charlie Kensworthy, scored his first goal for the club to make it 4-0, before Matthew scored two more to leave the halftime score at 6-0. After the break, Ben Parker grabbed his second, Jordan White made it seven, and then Charlie knocked in his second to leave the final score at 9-0.

The ‘B’s also had an eventful first half. After going behind early on, George Copsey got the boys back level and twelve minutes in Jace Smith put them ahead. Two minutes later Wickham were back level but once again, George struck to restore the lead before halftime. From then on, it was a much tighter affair with neither side able to add to the score. With two minutes left to play, George Copsey fired home for his hat-trick and although Wickham grabbed one back, just before the final whistle the boys recorded a good 4-3 win.
Next week the boys are away at local rivals Kirton Kestrels.

Under 11’s
No match for the boys this week. Next week the 11’s are at home against Woodbridge Town.

Under 12’s
In awe of last year’s champions Ransomes, the boys gave them a bit too much respect and were punished with three good goals. However, before the break, Sam Cole snatched one back to give the lads some encouragement for the second half. The halftime team talk seemed to have the desired effect, as in the seasiders dominated the second period. Unfortunately, despite their improved form, they could not add to their score and the match finished 3-1.
Next week the boys travel to Wickham Market.

Under 13’s Girls
After their good win last week, the girls welcomed Stowupland Falcons to Coronation Park. Unfortunately, they could not match last weeks result and lost out 4-1 with Abigail Jewkes scoring their goal.
Next week they are away at Bacton United.

Under 13’s
The newly promoted under 13’s, remain joint leaders after an emphatic 7-0 win at home against Woodbridge Town. Terry Dean & Toby Spink grabbed one apiece, Jake Eynon scored twice, and Jordan Egerton now has 101 goals in 110 matches for the team, with yet another hat-trick. At the back, the defence and Jake Sexton in goal, recorded their second clean sheet in succession.
Next week the 13’s are away at unbeaten Brantham Athletic.

Under 14’s Girls
With their opening match last week postponed, the girls couldn’t have asked for a worse fixture to start their first ever campaign at 9-a-side, away at Ipswich Town Ladies. With three new players and no substitutes to call upon it was always going to be very difficult against classy opposition. In the end, Ipswich ran out 15-0 winners, but to their credit, the girls battled all the way.
Next week the girls play host to Debenham Leisure Centre.

Under 14’s
The boys travelled to Ipswich Wanderers’ ground to play their first away fixture against Oak Rangers. The home side started the better and for the opening period kept the seasiders’ on the back foot. The lads then began to settle down and the game looked to be heading for half time with the scores level. However, a goalmouth melee ended with the ball on the edge of the penalty area and a Rangers striker lobbed the ball over everyone into the net to grab the lead. Once again, the home side started the half the better side and some heroics in the goal by Ben Hall managed to keep them at bay. The seasiders’ then began to apply some pressure and won a free kick just outside of the penalty area. Liam Butcher swung the ball into the box and Jordan Warne’s powerful header left the Rangers keeper with no chance. Again, the home side pushed forward but again they were denied by some great goalkeeping by Ben Hall. Midway through the half, Sam Read passed the ball through to Matthew Mackenzie who slotted the ball past the advancing Rangers keeper to make it 2-1. Despite more pressure, the boys held on for a well-earned three points, and an unbeaten start to the season.
On Saturday, the lads are at home to Kesgrave Kestrels.

Under 15’s
In spite of the problems with goalkeepers, etc that have plagued the team so far this season there was no excuse for the first 40 minutes of this match. A diabolical first half performance from the team left
Woodbridge 7-0 up and gifted them the match. However, to their credit, following a lively halftime team talk, the second period was a complete contrast. All the boys improved in the second period and despite losing two to injuries and having to play the last twenty minutes with only 10 players, the effort they put in was fantastic. The only score added in the second half was a fluke own goal, so the boys could at least leave the field with some pride. Next week however, they need to play that way for the whole 80 minutes.
Their opposition next week is Whitton Sports.

Under 16’s
Having no fixture last weekend the 16’s finally kicked off their season at home to newly promoted Framlingham Town. Some early-sustained pressure was rewarded when a neat through ball from Reece Turner was slotted past the keeper by Derek Grimes. However, the lead was short lived as a long range free kick was fumbled by the keeper and their striker reacted the quickest to level the scores. On the stroke of halftime, the seasiders gave away a needless penalty and the half ended with the visitors 2-1 ahead. Second half substitute Rodri Harston making his league debut, had an immediate impact as his through ball was nicely finished by Reece Turner who worked tirelessly up front. With the scores level the lads dominated the remainder of the match and secured the three points with a goal described by their manager as the best he has ever seen. Starting from central midfield, Rodri moved the ball out wide on the left where he played a one-two down the line with Aaron Cook. He then beat the opposition right back and crossed into the near post where Reece Turner was once again well positioned to glance his header across the keeper and into the net from 8 yards. A good performance from promoted Framlingham but the best side prevailed in the end.
Next week the 16’s, play away at Bourne Vale.

Matches played weekend 9/10th September

Under 8’s
In their first ever league matches the under 8’s got off to a great start at home to Kesgrave Kestrels. In the ‘A’ game early on there was little to separate the teams until Felixstowe won a penalty. This was neatly converted by Samuel Gilder, then, he quickly followed up with his second, a strike from outside the area. The visitors replied just before the break to leave the score at halftime 2-1. In the second period the boys started to dominate the game and Samuel completed his hat-trick before the hard working Aaron Bull made it 4-1. Again, the visitors replied, before the victory was sealed when Samuel Gilder scored his fourth to make it 5-2. Another highlight of the match was the return of keeper Oliver Rose after recovering from his broken arm earlier in the year.

In the ‘B’, game Felixstowe showed their strength in depth with an emphatic 9-0 victory. Charlie Brown dominated the game in the opening minutes and scored early on, he went on to get another four despite only playing in half of the game. James O’Maley then added another before the break to take the score to 6-0. In the second half Keiran Brunning came on and scored with fine strike from well outside the area. Harley Barkes was rewarded for all his running with a goal, before Keiran wrapped up the scoring with his second. Callum Burrows in goal, showed his frustration of having little to do when he went on an astonishing run from his own penalty area (much to the amazement of the crowd and players), he would have certainly scored had it not been for a last ditch tackle.

An excellent performance from both teams, everyone worked hard and played well, let us hope they can keep this up throughout the season.
Next up is an away trip to Witnesham Wasps.

 Under 9’s
A real baptism of fire for the under 9’s in their first league match of the season. The boys came up against a
St Johns side that that were on top form. In the ‘A’ game, the boys held out for the opening quarter of the match but eventually the oppositions’ relentless pressure paid off. Despite a determined effort from the whole team, the visitors were the better team on the day and ran out 4-0 winners. The ‘B’ game continued in a similar vein with the St Johns boys on a high after their teamates earlier victory. Once again, the seasiders fought bravely and battled for every ball, but to no avail. The final score was a 12-0 defeat, but the boys held their heads high and will come back next week with lessons learnt and even more resolve.
Next week the 9’s play at home to East Bergholt.

 Under 10’s
A tough opening match for the under 10’s saw them away from home against a St Johns side that were ‘B’ team champions and ‘A’ team runners up last season.. In the ‘A’ game, the home side started quickest and were soon 1-0 up before a Matthew Bury corner was deflected into his own net by a St Johns defender to level the scores. In the second half, the teams were evenly matched until with 14 minutes to play St Johns took the lead once more. Whilst pushing for a last minute equaliser, the boys were caught out late on and the match ended 3-1.

In the ‘B’ game, again St Johns took the early advantage scoring three times in the first half. After the break, the boys managed to steady the ship for a while until with ten minutes to play their opponents grabbed a fourth. The lads continued to battle right to the end of the match and were rewarded with a late goal from Jace Smith in the final moments, final score 4-1.
No match for the boys next week.

 Under 11’s
No match details received yet, but I can report that the ‘A’s lost 3-0 and the ‘B’s 5-0 against Martlesham Mustangs.  Next week the 11’s have a free week.

 Under 12’s
After some impressive displays in friendly matches, the 12’s started their foray into 11-a-side league football with an away fixture against Kesgrave Kestrels. Their good form continued and the boys enjoyed the trip home with the three points in the bag, and six goals on the scoresheet. A hat-trick from man of the match Luke Turner, two from strike partner Jordan Youngs and the last from Will Ruffles. The home side did grab a consolation goal for themselves but overall it was a great start to the campaign for the lads, final score 6-1.
Their next match is at home against last year’s mini-soccer champions, Ransomes.

 Under 13’s Girls
No full details as yet, but in their first ever league match the girls travelled to play
Bury Town ‘B’ and returned with all three points after a 3-2 victory.
Next week they are at home to Stowupland Falcons.

 Under 13’s
Now in Division One, the 13’s started their season with an away match against fellow promoted side Ipswich Royals. In a tight game, a single goal by the seasider’s Toby Spink, and a clean sheet from Jake Sexton and his defence was enough to separate the teams.

Next up is a home game against Woodbridge Town.

Under 14’s Girls
The girls match was postponed this week because of pitch availability problems, so they will kick off their season next week against Ipswich Town Ladies.

Under 14’s
The lads started their campaign by welcoming to Langley Avenue, 1st Division new boys Brantham Athletic. Having been surprised by the physical size of the opposition, the seasiders allowed their opponents to take control of the game early on. However, when Liam Butcher’s goal put the team ahead, they seemed to grow in confidence and they started to play their usual great passing game. From that point forward, new signing, Ben Hall in the Felixstowe goal had little to do as Matthew Mackenzie rattled in two goals to give the boys a 3-0 halftime advantage.

The second half started with Brantham once again getting back into the match, however, their ascendancy was short lived when two more goals from Matthew Mackenzie put the game out of their reach. From then on, it was Felixstowe all the way, Liam Butcher scored his second, Charles Gosling grabbed two, and Nick Wilding completed the rout with a cracking effort to leave the final score at 9-0.
On Saturday, the lads are away against Oak Rangers.

Under 15’s
Also up against Brantham were the under 15’s, in their first match in Division One for 4 years. Still without a recognised keeper, centre half William Colson filled in between the posts and a reshuffled back four did their best against a strong Brantham side. Two down at half time, the boys worked hard to stay in the match and their perseverance paid off. In the second half despite conceding twice more, they managed two goals of their own. Lee Egerton in his first match since his return from Trimley, scored after a good move down the left hand side, before Nathan Stephenson stabbed the ball past the keeper after a poorly cleared freekick. Not the greatest start to a season but with the team still in a transitional period it gives the management team something to work with.
This week the boys travel to Woodbridge Town.

Under 16’s
With an odd number of teams in the league, the under 16’s sat out the first round of matches. This week they are at home to newly promoted Framlingham Town.

I am delighted to report, that this weekend, the Junior section scored their 5000th goal as Felixstowe and Walton United. Unfortunately due to varying kick-off times etc; we cannot be sure exactly who scored the actual goal, but well done to everyone

Roy Kempson.
