Long service awards being presented to our u16s as they move on to senior
football following the end of last season.
All the boys in the photo have played for the club since u8s and have made a
staggering 1757 appearances between them scoring 820 goals.
Now that's what I call club members.
And the good news is the appearances and goals are still adding up as most of
them continue to represent the club at 1st/Res/ and U18s.
Well done to them all.

Unfortunately I was unable to be present when the boys entertained our friends
from Holland over the bank holiday weekend. In the main match of the weekend the
lads went a goal down in the first half before Daniel Finegan and Ben
Parker scored to give the seasiders the lead. Not disheartened, the Dutch
boys from Quintus fought back well to steal the win with two more goals. An
enjoyable weekend was had by all and thanks to all those who put in all the hard
work to make it happen.
A well done also to the Felixstowe under 11’s team who played in
the under 12’s six-a-side tournament on the Saturday and beat all the older lads
to take the title. In the league the lads played their final match against
Holbrook Hornets. Already assured of second place and promotion to the top
division the lads needed to win by 15-0 so they could catch and pass Martlesham
on goal difference. As it was they ran out 4-3 victors and will be promoted to
the top division for next season. Having gone 2-0 down Jace Smith and Jordan
White scored to bring the scores level at half time. Holbrook then took the
lead once more before
Jordan
struck a penalty and Charlie Kenworthy headed home the winner.
The boy’s final stats read:
Played 30, Won 21, Drew 4, Lost 5, Goals for 114, Goals

UNDER
14’s The lads played their penultimate
league match against local rivals Felixstowe Falcons. Jordan Youngs
headed home the first from a Sam Cole corner to claim his 150th
goal for the club. Luke Turner grabbed another after the interval but the
Falcons hit back and refused to give in. Five minutes from time Matthew
Barratt was first to react when another shot from
Jordan
was parried to leave the final score at 3-1.
Despite losing their final league match 2-3 against Ransomes, both goals
scored by Jordan Youngs, the boys finished in third place in the table
and their final stats read as follows:
Played 32, Won 22, Drew 2, Lost 8, Goals for 125, Goals

UNDER 11’s No match for the lads last weekend, this week they play their final mini soccer match against the league leaders Felixstowe Hawks. A win or a draw will ensure that the lads finish second in the table.
UNDER
12’s Promoted to Division One.
On Tuesday evening the lads played in the final of the plate competition
against unbeaten division one leaders Kesgrave Kestrels. The lads put up
a good fight but were beaten 4-0. In the league the lads have one match left
against Holbrook Hornets. Already assured of second place and promotion to the
top division the lads can enjoy their last match with no pressure. However, if
they were to win by 15-0 they could catch and pass Martlesham on goal
difference.

and Ransomes held on for the win. The lads have finished their league programme
and depending on other results will finish either 4th, 5th
or 6th.
Played 20, Won 12, Drew 2, Lost 6, Goals for 37, Goals against 29.

18’s Saturday League Champions.
A 3-1 win over second placed Martlesham last weekend sealed the title for
the lads in their final season. They have one match left to play next week at
Kirton Kestrels.
UNDER
18’s Sunday With only one league match
to play on the 17th of May and a mid table finish assured, the focus
was on the Vase Final played under the floodlights at the Stowmarket Town
ground on Thursday. The opposition were local rivals Trimley Red Devils
who started well and went a goal up just five minutes into the match after a
defensive mix up. The rest of the first half was mostly played in the seasiders
half with Trimley in control. A second goal for the opposition early after the
interval could have killed the game off but the lads rallied and played some
excellent football during the second period. Eventually a goal came from an
angled free kick into the box by Rob Craig. At the far post was George
McCallum who rifled the ball home. A tense final five minutes ensued and the
lads were unlucky not to force the match into extra time with some good late
efforts.

UNDER 8’s No report from the 8’s this week.
UNDER 9’s The lads travelled to Trimley as a neutral venue to play their cup final matches also against Holbrook Hornets. Both sides put up a great fight but unfortunately they both lost out by the odd goal. The A’s match finished 2-1 with Matthew Mayes scoring, whilst the B’s was 3-2 with Kian Smith Howell scoring both. With the league being non competitive this season no league tables were published but the teams finished with the Ra’s P19, W11, D4, L4 and the B’s P19, W17, D0, L2. Top scorers were Kian Smith Howell with 25 and Luke Barnes with 19, both keepers Benjamin Barkes and Adam Hart kept six clean sheets each. This bodes well for next season.
UNDER 10’s The lads were up against Kesgrave Kestrels in their final league match of the season. The A’s knew that a win would allow them to leapfrog their opposition and secure third place in the table. Oliver Ruffles and Charlie Driver both had chances early on that went just wide but eventually just before the break a shot from Aaron Bull was blocked by the Kesgrave keeper and Eddie Marshall pounced to slot the ball home. The second half was a very tight affair with the visitors nicking a late equaliser to keep their place in the table. Overall a very successful season for the A’s with a league record of P14 W6 D3 L5 top scorer was Aaron Bull with 21 goals.
The B’s have had a much tougher season with only one point on the board as they played their final league match. They have come very close to breaking their duck on several occasions having lost by the odd goal four times. However they finished their season in great style winning 2-1. Connor Sorhaindo scored the first after a good run and then turned provider for Matthew Haskell to grab the second. Harley Barkes and Callum Burrows also came close in a half that the lads dominated. After the interval the visitors did get a goal back but the lads held on for a well deserved victory. Top scorer for the B’s was Connor Sorhaindo with seven goals.
UNDER 11’s The lads were away at bottom side Sizewell and Knodishall for their penultimate league match of the season. The A’s who are already assured of a top three finish were a goal to the good by half time courtesy of a strike from Jordan Dalziel set up by Freddie McDade. The second half saw them stretch their lead with a goal from Matthew Harrold before being awarded a penalty which was despatched by Charlie Bance. Jordan then completed the scoring with his second to leave the lads and their rivals for second place Chantry Grasshoppers both having to play the league leaders Felixstowe Hawks in their final games.
The B’s guaranteed themselves third place in the table with a resounding 10-1 victory. Jack Moss opened the deluge with two quick strikes before another of his shots was turned in by Nathaniel Adams to give the lads a 3-0 half time lead. Nathaniel then grabbed his second before Sizewell pulled one back to make it 4-1. Curtis Andrews then made it 5-1 before Jack completed his hat-trick. In no time at all it was 8-1 with Jack adding two more to take his tally to five. Curtis scored his second to make it nine and Kieran Webster finished the off the rout with the tenth. It was the second time that the lads had put ten past Sizewell this season.
UNDER 12’s The lads progressed to the final of the plate competition with a 2-1 win over fellow division two side Saxmundham Scorpions. With a 3-3 draw and a narrow 3-2 win against the visitors in the league this season the boys started as narrow favourites but it was the scorpions who took the lead early on. Before the interval the seasiders were back in the match after a good finish from Charlie Kenworthy, his 5th in his last three games and his 27th of the campaign. The second period saw the lads grab the winner through their other prolific scorer Matthew Bury. His deciding goal was his 25th of the season and his 13th in his last 10 matches.
Their next match is the final against 1st division leaders Kesgrave Kestrels. The match is being played next Tuesday evening at Framlingham Town. The boys also still have a chance of winning the division two title if they win their last league match next Saturday against Holbrook Hornets.
UNDER 13’s After a poor start to the season that saw the lads win just one of their opening seven matches, the lads are finishing with style. Away from home at third placed Woodbridge Town the seasiders made it six wins and one draw from their last eight games. The first half saw Byron Melton score for the second match running with a low hard free kick from 25 yards which beat the wall and the keeper. After instructions at half time for more of the same the boys delivered when George Connor’s 40 yard drive was spilt by the keeper and Joe Coniam was on hand to provide the finish. The win sees the lads safe in 7th place with one league match left to play. This week the lads have a plate semi final on Thursday against Martlesham, followed by their final league match on Saturday against Witnesham Wasps.
UNDER 14’s A tough couple of days saw the lads play the top two sides in the league. First up was a trip to second placed Ransomes where the seasiders took an early lead through Ben Hunt only to see the home side equalise before the break. The second half saw a wonder strike from Ransomes when their player volleyed in from long range to give them the lead and the Ransomes winner came from a disputed decision that both teams thought was offside but the official didn’t. Final score 1-3.
Saturday saw the lads at home to the league leaders Bramford United who have lost just once all season. The lads disappointment from the previous game was compounded when the visitors ran out comfortable 6-0 winners. The lads still have two matches left to try to secure third place in the table, next up is the trip to local rivals Felixstowe Falcons.
UNDER 15’s The lads lost out 2-1 to Ipswich Hawks and still need a point from their final match against Bildeston Rangers to guarantee the title.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls have finished all their fixtures and ended 8th in their league.
UNDER 16’s The lads drew 0-0 with Kesgrave Town on Saturday in their final league match which means at least a fourth place finish. The team is now focused on their cup final to on the 5th of May at Framlingham Town when they play Ransomes.
UNDER 18’s Saturday The lads lost out on penalties after a 2-2 draw in their Plate Semi final against Martlesham last Saturday. This week they face Martlesham’s other team, who are currently in second place in the table just a point behind the seasiders.
UNDER 18’s Sunday With only one league match to play on the 17th of May and a mid table finish assured, the focus is now on the Vase Final to be played under the floodlights at the Stowmarket Town ground on the 7th of May. The opposition will be local rivals Trimley Red Devils so an exciting evening is in prospect.

UNDER 8’s No match for the teams last week, this week they are away at Whitton United.
UNDER 9’s Last week the teams were at home to Capel Youth in their final league matches of the campaign. The A’s won 3-0 with goals from Luke Barnes, Kieran Bowdidge and Matthew Tetley and the B’s went one better winning 4-0. The B’s goals came from Kian Smith-Howell 2, Emily Smout and Daniel Rowe. Although the FA dictates that results and tables should not be published at this age group I can confirm that the A’s finished with P15, W11, D2, L2 and the B’s were P15, W15. This week they play their cup final matches also against Capel.
UNDER 10’s No match for the boys last week, this week they are at home to Kesgrave Kestrels.
UNDER 11’s The teams were away at Chantry Grasshoppers. The A’s started well and Charlie Bance opened the scoring when his ball into the box caught a deflection and slipped past the keeper. Charlie then turned provider for the next two goals when his ball into the box was turned past the keeper by Matthew Harrold for 2-0 and then he set up Jordan Dalziel for the next. Just before the break Freddie Mcdade went on an individual run and finished well to make it 4-0 at half time. Two goals early in the second half gave the visitors some hope but when William O’Maley hit the fifth for the seasiders it was game over. A late consolation by Chantry made the final score 5-3.
The B’s had a tight match but managed to take the lead on the stroke of half time when Nathaniel Adams hit his 27th of the season. It looked as if the one goal might be enough but a late penalty gave the home side a share of the points. This week the teams are away at Sizewell and Knodishall.
UNDER 12’s After a month without a match the boys extended their unbeaten run to 15 games with a comfortable 4-0 win at home to Framlingham Town. A goal either side of half time from top scorer Charlie Kenworthy put the lads in control, Ben Parker then added a third before Charlie completed his second hat-trick of the season to take his tally to 25 goals in just 23 matches.
On Thursday evening the lads then entertained Trimley Red Devils and they continued their winning ways running out 7-2 victors, exactly the same score as when the teams met back in September. The first half was topsy turvey as Trimley took the lead, only for the seasiders to pull back to 3-1 with goals from Matthew Bury, Lewis Chaplin and Jordan White. However just before the break the visitors scored again to make it 3-2. The second half was all seasiders, with Charlie Kenworthy, Ben Parker, and Matthew Bury with his second and Tom Morrisey goals wrapping up the match. The win means that with one league match to play the boys are at the top of the table one point ahead of Martlesham who have two matches left. This weekend the lads are playing in the semi final of the plate against Saxmundham Scorpions.
UNDER 13’s After a two week break the lads were looking forward to their trip away from home at St Johns. Unfortunately the opposition could only field eight players and so the game was awarded to the seasiders without a ball being kicked. With two matches left to play, the lads are in 7th place and well clear of the relegation zone. Next up is an away trip top Woodbridge Town.
UNDER 14’s Last week the lads were at home to Claydon Youth. Having already beaten the opposition in both the league and cup, the lads were confident of another victory. Unfortunately a sloppy start meant that Daniel Spink had to make two excellent saves early on to keep the team in the match. Jordan Youngs then broke clear, rounded the keeper and pulled the ball back for Daniel Bowditch to score to settle things down. Again Claydon came back and again Daniel Spink was called upon to twice keep them at bay. Just before the interval a corner from Kieran Royal was headed home by Jordan Youngs to give the seasiders a 2-0 half time lead. Jordan then scored his second after being played through by Lee Dawson before Claydon got their just rewards to narrow the gap back to two. Kieran Royal then had a simple tap in for the fourth goal before a late consolation goal for the visitors made the final score 4-2. The boys have four more matches to play and are currently in third place, next up is a trip to second placed Ransomes.
UNDER 15’s The 15’s have had a busy time of late, on Thursday last week they were knocked out in the Plate Semi Final 2-0 by rivals Trimley Red Devils, their first loss since last November. On Saturday they were at home to 5th placed Bildeston Rangers and they were back on top form winning 8-2 despite being without their regular keeper, Phillip Cooke filled in admirably and the win was never in doubt. Terry Dean opened the scoring early on and when Luke Fountain hit two more before half time the points were in the bag. In an eight minute spell of the second half the lads added four more. Liam King hit his 34th of the season before Luke completed his third hat-trick of the year. Toby Spink then fired home before Terry Dean scored his second and the teams 7th. Lawrence Gregory rounded off the scoring late on for a very convincing win.
On Tuesday evening the lads entertained bottom side Debenham and surprisingly found themselves a goal behind early on. They equalised before the break but again went behind early in the second half. Once more they fought back and finally sealed the 3-2 win with virtually the last kick of the game. The win means that the lads need just one point from their last two matches to win the division two title and will be promoted as Champions,
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls have finished all their fixtures and ended 8th in their league.
UNDER 16’s Away at Ransomes last week the lads lost out by 4-0. A win in their final league match against Kesgrave Town on Saturday will secure a third place finish in the league with the cup final to come on the 5th of May.
UNDER 18’s Saturday The games are coming thick and fast for the 18’s. Away at Framlingham Town last Saturday the lads won 13-2, the second time this season they have hit 13 goals in one match. On Wednesday evening they were at home to Whitton United and their 2-0 win puts them four points clear at the top of the table with two matches left to play. This Saturday they play their Plate Semi final against Martlesham.
UNDER 18’s Sunday With only one league match to play on the 17th of May, the focus is now on the Vase final to be played under the floodlights at the Stowmarket Town ground on the 7th of May. The opposition will be either Trimley Red Devils or Moreton Hall Youth who play this weekend.

UNDER 8’s No match for the teams last week or this.
UNDER 9’s No match for the teams last week, this week the teams play at home against Capel.
UNDER 10’s At home to Chantry Grasshoppers the A’s finally got back to winning ways after three defeats. A pass from Aaron Bull set up Charlie Driver who thumped the ball home for the first goal and after dominating the first half just before the break Charlie’s corner was headed home by Samuel Gilder for the second. Early into the second half Aaron once more set up Charlie for a third and although Chantry did pull one back after some clumsy defending the points were secured when new boy Jacob Woodley scored to round off a great team performance.
The B’s conceded
a goal early on but from that point made a truck full of chances but could not
get the slice of luck they needed. Callum Burrows shot just wide, Ben
Read had a cross headed off the goal line, and Harley Barkes hit the
post but it was not to be.
The boys now have a free week

UNDER 14’s Last week the lads had no match, this week they are at home to Claydon Youth.
UNDER 15’s Last weekend the lads kept up their push for the division two title with a 2-1 win away at Woolpit. Unfortunately on Wednesday evening they went out of the cup plate competition at the semi final stage, beaten 2-0 by 1st division Trimley Red Devils. This week the lads will hope to keep their six point lead at the top of the table as they are at home in the league to mid table Bildeston Rangers.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls have finished all their fixtures and ended 8th in their league.
UNDER 16’s No match for the team last week, this week they are away at Ransomes.
UNDER 18’s Saturday No match for the team last week, this week they are away at Framlingham Town.
UNDER 18’s Sunday Last Sunday the lads were away from home in the vase semi final at Walsham Le Willows. After an even first half the lads took the lead early in the second period when George McCallum poked the ball home at the back post after some good work from Nick Duff. The win will see the lads play either Trimley or Moreton Hall in the final next month. They have no match this Sunday.

UNDER 9’s No match for the teams last week or this.
UNDER 10’s Last week the lads played top of the table Woodbridge Town. The ‘A’s lost out 2-0 and the ‘B’s 5-0. Both results were an improvement on the matches played back in September. This week they are at home to Chantry Grasshoppers.
UNDER 11’s No match for the teams last week or this.

UNDER 13’s No match for the team last week or this.
UNDER 14’s The boys moved up into third place in the table following their 3-2 win over local rivals Kirton Kestrels. This week they have no match.
UNDER 15’s The lads strengthened their lead at the top of the table with a 2-1 win over Wickham Market and with second placed Sproughton losing at Trinity Rangers, the lads are now three points clear with two matches in hand. This week they travel to Woolpit.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls rounded off their season with the long trip over to second placed Brandon Lasses. Having conceded eight goals in the return fixture in January, the girls battled well and never gave in and the match finished with the score at 6-0. The girls this season have often struggled to field a full team and with no substitutes most weeks they have always been at the mercy of other teams the longer the games went on. In their sixteen matches they won two and drew two and finished away from the bottom of the table. Well done to them all for their perseverance and for the efforts of manager Sarah Shinnie and her coaching team.
UNDER 16’s No match for the team last week or this.
UNDER 18’s Saturday The lads 2-0 midweek win over Claydon Youth puts the team two points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand over Martlesham. The lads have no match this week.
UNDER
18’s Sunday The lads played a
midweek fixture under the lights at Dellwood with Scole Lads providing
the opposition for the fourth time in five weeks. After some good early play by
the seasiders it was the league leaders who took an early lead, but despite this
our lads held on and for sixty minutes the game was quite even. Unfortunately
three late goals sealed the win for the visitors who are still unbeaten with
just three matches to play. This Sunday the lads are away in the vase semi
final at Walsham.

28th / 29th March 2009
UNDER 8’s Unfortunately we do not have the details of the lads match at home to Witnesham Wasps.
UNDER 9’s No matches for the teams last week or this.
UNDER 10’s Away from home at Framlingham Town the ‘A’s went behind early on. But despite having most of the possession for the rest of the match they could not break done a solid home defence. Charlie Driver came the closest hitting the woodwork but it was not to be. Final score 1-0.
The ‘B’s finally
got their first point of the season and it came against the team that started
the day at the top of the table. Eddie Marshall put the lads ahead and
although Framlingham did equalise the lads battled well to hold them at bay for
the draw.
This week the boys are at home to Woodbridge Town.
UNDER 11’s Both teams maintained their second place positions in the table following to good victories at home to Whitton Sports. The ‘A’s set the tone for the match with an early goal volleyed in by Jack Moss. However just on the stroke of half time the visitors hit back to level the scores. In the second half the lads wasted no time and were soon back ahead after William O’Maley fired home. After this the goals came thick and fast, two more strikes from William completed his hat-trick to make it 4-1 and soon after Jack got his second to make it five. The final goal came as the keeper Ollie Spink launched the ball forward and as Jack Moss went to head the ball, the opposition keeper brought him down. Had the ball not gone into the net a penalty would have been given but as it was Ollie was on the score sheet. Final score 6-1.
The ‘B’ match saw
the lads go behind early doors, but after that slip up they never looked back.
Goals from Jake Woodley and Cameron Dwelley put the lads back in
front before the interval, and then soon after Charlie Wilson made it
3-1. Jake and Cameron then added one more each to leave the final
score at 5-1.
This week the lads have no match.
UNDER 12’s The lads had no match last week and have none this.
UNDER 13’s The lads ensured their place in the top division with a close 4-3 victory over third placed Kesgrave Kestrels. In cold and windy conditions the game started well for the seasiders when Nathan Gould was put through with a precision pass from Byron Melton to beat the lob the advancing keeper to make it 1-0. The lead didn't last long as a defensive mistake led to a Kesgrave equaliser. The boys then re-took the lead when Nathan scored his second with a neat finish. Back came the visitors when a shot from a corner was brilliantly pushed onto the bar from keeper Tony Hitchen only to be headed in from the rebound. The lead was then restored when a great pass down the right from Dan Read found Nathan who beat his marker to square to fellow striker Joe Coniam to score. Half time 3-2.
The second half started where the first finished and once again Kesgrave equalised. Under heavy conditions our boys started to look the stronger and earned a free kick 25yrds out. Byron Melton placed the ball and struck an unstoppable shot into the top corner. A goal worthy to win any game! Full time 4-3. The lad’s third win on the bounce leaves them safe in 8th place. No game for the boys for the next 2 weeks.
UNDER
14’s The lads travelled to third placed
Tornadoes and despite playing well they went in at half time a goal
behind. A spirited second period saw them take the win and close the points gap
to the top three. The first an individual effort from Jordan Youngs, who
then turned provider for Luke Turner who hit the second and decisive
goal.
This week they at home to Kirton Kestrels.
UNDER 15’s Unfortunately, last weeks opponents Capel Colts could not field a side so the boys were awarded the three points. This week they are at home to third placed Wickham Market.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS No match for the girls last week, this Sunday they are away at Brandon Lasses.
UNDER
16’s The lads were at home against a
St
Johns
side who despite their lowly league position, had only been beaten once in their
last five matches. A solid performance by the visiting defence saw them keep the
seasiders at bay whilst at the other end returning from injury, keeper Ben Hall
was a spectator. After a scoreless first period, completely against the run of
play St Johns took the lead. A corner not being cleared resulted in a goalmouth
scramble and the lads were behind. It wasn’t long before parity was returned
when Matthew Mackenzie’s 25 yard drive was parried by the keeper into the
path of Louis Johnston who tapped the ball home for his first goal of the
season. The inevitable second came after a great move involving four players.
George McCallum played the ball out wide to Declan Harvey who beat
his marker and played it forward to Matthew Mackenzie, he then crossed
the ball into the six yard box where Mathew Soper was waiting to rifle
the ball home. In the end a comfortable win which keeps the lads in with a
slight chance for the league and cup double.
The lads have just two league matches left against Ransomes and Kesgrave.
UNDER 18’s Saturday The lads took the opportunity to increase their goal difference at home to bottom side Witnesham Wasps. The 13-0 win sees the lad’s just two points behind the leaders Martlesham but with two matches in hand.
UNDER 18’s Sunday For the third time in four weeks the lads made the long trip to top of the table and unbeaten Scole Lads. With only the minimum 11 players available the lads were up against it and despite going behind early on they never gave up and battled well. A second goal just before the break gave the home side what should have been a comfortable lead but the seasiders were determined not to roll over and their second half performance was excellent. Camped in the opposition half for long periods, the lads played some good football and did everything but put the ball in the net. Despite the loss the lads will be looking forward to the home return in their next match under the floodlights at Dellwood on Thursday the 6th.

UNDER 12’s Last week the lads were at home in the plate ¼ final to Thorndon Vipers. Having been 1-1 at half time, Thorndon scored twice to go 3-1 before the lads made a terrific comeback to win 4-3. Goals from Matthew Bury 2, Lewis Chaplin and Tom Morrisey. The lads have no match this week.
UNDER 13’s Last week the lads travelled to Thorndon Vipers in the ¼ finals of the plate competition. They saw they way through to the semis with a 1-0 win, the goal was scored by Joe Coniam. This week the lads are at home to Kesgrave Kestrels.
UNDER 14’s The lads were at home to Ransomes in the semi final of the cup and lost out narrowly by 3-2. This week they are away from home at Tornadoes.
UNDER 15’s The boys comfortably booked their place in the plate semi final with a 5-1 win over Woolpit. This week they are away at Capel Colts
UNDER 15’s GIRLS No match for the girls last week or this.
UNDER 16’s Last week the lads were at home in a cup semi-final against East Bergholt. The visitors battled well but were unable to stop the strong seasiders’ line up from winning 5-0. Goals from Matthew Mackenzie 2, Charles Gosling, George McCallum and an unfortunate own goal means the team will play in their first cup final on May the 5th against Ransomes. This week the lads are at home to St Johns.
UNDER 18’s Saturday Having beaten Kirton Kestrels 5-2 in the ¼ finals of the plate competition last week, the lads now play at home to Witnesham Wasps in the league.
UNDER 18’s Sunday After squandering a 1-0 lead the lads lost out 3-1 to Abbeygate Youth last Sunday. This week they travel to top of the table Scole Lads.

UNDER 8’s The lads were at home to Brantham Athletic teams who they had last played back in September. In the ‘A’ game it was end to end from the kickoff with the visitors claiming the first goal after a fierce shot which left the keeper no chance. A good move involving Finn Sheppard, Hayden Craft and Daniel Poxon set up Kieran Butcher for his second goal of the season to level the scores soon afterwards. Again Brantham hit back for a 2-1 lead which nearly became three but Joby Howe made a terrific save to deny the striker. At the other end Daniel shot just over the bar as the half came to a frantic finish. After the interval and with the wind at their backs, the lads were soon back on level terms courtesy of a calm finish from Daniel Poxon. When Thomas Lygo broke forward from defence his ball through to Daniel set him up for his second of the day and the boys were in front. Despite some good late pressure from the visitors, the lads worked hard and kept them at bay to secure the win.
The ‘B’ match was a very tight affair and
by half time the only goal that separated the teams came from a Charlie Smith
through ball that was deflected into his own net by an unlucky defender. The
second half saw the visitors in the ascendancy as they pushed for an equaliser
but some good defending by Matthew King and Charlie Boggis and a
couple of saves from Harrison Challis were enough to keep them at bay and
secure the win.
This week the lads have no match.
UNDER 9’s Unfortunately no details of the last weeks trip to Holbrook Hornets. This week they have no match.
UNDER 10’s Last week the lads were away in the league at St Johns, the ‘A’s lost out 2-1 and the ‘B’s 4-0. This week the ‘A’s are away at Kesgrave Kestrels in the semi final of the cup, the ‘B’s have no match.
UNDER 11’s No matches for the lads last week or this.
UNDER 12’s
Last week the boys were at home to a Saxmundham Scorpions team that had
lost just once in their last ten matches. With our lads still at the top of the
table, a close match was expected. It was the visitors who took an early lead
with a speculative shot from the half way line. From that point on the seasiders
dominated the rest of the half with Jordan White hitting the equaliser
into the top corner of the net and then providing a corner, which was met at the
far post by Ben Parker for the 2-1 lead. Finally when Lewis Chaplin
slid the ball past the out rushing keeper the points looked secure. The second
half was a much tighter affair and with the wind behind them Saxmundham hit back
with another long range effort which deceived the seasider’s keeper. Still the
three points looked to be heading our way but with almost the last kick of the
match, the keeper launched the ball forward and their striker ran through and
scored the equaliser. The draw means that the lads are still at the top of the
table but their lead has now been cut to five points.
This week the lads are at home in the plate ¼ final to Thorndon
Vipers.
UNDER 13’s
In their attempt to stay up in the top division, the boys have really hit form
when they most needed it. They made it three wins and one draw in their last
five matches with a crucial 3-0 victory over bottom side Kirton Kestrels.
After a cagey first twenty minutes the boys had a great end the first half.
Lewis Stiff hit the first, an unstoppable shot into the top corner from
25yds out. The second came five minutes later after a run down the wing from
Ethan Cowburn, he found George Connor on the edge of the box who then
squared the ball for Joseph Welham who calmly slotted the ball home.
George Connor then ran for 30yds beating four players and hitting a great
shot that wrong footed the keeper to round off a great first half performance.
With the home side pushing on in the second half, the lads were forced onto the
back foot a little but Tony Hitchen made a couple of good saves and the
lads comfortably saw out the time for their second 3-0 win in two games. The win
means that the lads need just need one more win from their last four league
matches to guarantee their place in Division One for next season.
This week the lads travel to Thorndon Vipers in the ¼ finals of the
plate competition.
UNDER 14’s
No full details of the boy’s game at home to mid table Debenham, However
they extended their unbeaten run to 13 matches with a 4-0 victory.
This week they are at home to Ransomes in the semi final of the cup.
UNDER 15’s
Still top of the table with
two matches in hand, the lads won 7-0 for the second week running this week
beating Locomotive Laxfield. No details of the scorers at present.
This week they travel to Woolpit in the ¼ finals of the plate.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS
Last Sunday the girls were at home to third placed Cornard Dynamos.
Having lost out 12-1 when the teams met on the opening day of the season, the
girls were obviously apprehensive. This time the team put in a good performance
but were still beaten by a good Cornard side 4-0.
The girls now have a two week break.
UNDER 16’s With two lads away with the county side and others with Ridgeons commitments, once again the sixteen’s had to field a much changed side. With their continuing goalkeeping problems this week also saw their fourth different keeper in the shape of Charlie Salmon. Away at Locomotive Laxfield the lads knew that with a four point gap from the leaders, a win was needed to keep alive any hopes of the league title. Unfortunately conceding an early goal after failing to clear their lines meant that their task was even more daunting. Midway through the half, Laxfield made it 2-0 with a powerful header from a corner but the lads hit back quickly after a good move. Sam Boggis played the ball forward to Declan Harvey who then found the quick thinking Matthew Soper who flicked the ball on for Charles Gosling who fired the ball home. After the break the lads continued to play their good passing game but could not add to their tally and eventually it was another set piece which proved to be their undoing. Another good header from Laxfield made it 3-1 and from that point on they defended strongly and kept our lads at bay. The defeat probably rules the lads out of the title race, but they now move onto their next match, a cup semi-final at home against East Bergholt. The match also saw Nick Anderson become the third member of the team to reach the landmark of 200 appearances for the club.
UNDER 18’s Saturday Having lost out last Saturday 1-0 to Whitton United in their final group cup match, this week the lads play Kirton Kestrels in the ¼ finals of the plate competition.
UNDER 18’s Sunday
After losing out 2-0 to top of the table side Scole Lads in their cup
semi final the previous week, the lads were looking for revenge when the two
sides met again this week in the league. Unfortunately with George McCallum
playing for the County side, a couple of injuries and some very late call offs,
only ten players travelled to Scole. Credit should go to the ten lads who played
as they gave 100% in very difficult circumstances against the top team in the
league. Through sheer hard work the lads got to half time having conceded just
once and when the home side scored a second early in the second period, the lads
could have been excused if they had let their heads drop. However that was not
the case and they made their point by pulling a goal straight back. A terrific
through ball from George Kemp found Matthew Kempson who cut inside
from the left wing and curled the ball into the far corner leaving the keeper
stranded. With twenty minutes left to play the lads were remarkably still in the
match, but eventually with three subs with fresh legs on the field, Scole scored
three late goals to win 5-1, a score line that did not reflect the effort that
all of the lads put in.
This week the team travel to Abbeygate Youth.

7th / 8th March 2009
UNDER 8’s With no league fixture this week the lads played a friendly away from home against Claydon Youth. The ‘A’s played out a very tight first half with neither team able to create a clear cut chance. The second period saw the introduction of Daniel Poxon who straight away caused problems for the home defence. A good run from Daniel set up a chance for Hayden Craft who slotted the ball home for the lead. With defenders Tom Lygo and Tom Bury holding firm in front of Joby Howe in the seasiders’ goal the only team that looked like scoring was the seasiders. The goal when it came was courtesy of midfielder Finn Sheppard who struck the ball from the edge of the area and in off the post for his first goal of the season. Late on a great run and cross from Kieran Butcher almost found Isaac Scott at the far post but he could not quite stretch far enough to get the crucial touch. Final score 2-0.
The ‘B’s imposed themselves on the match from the start with Louis Donovan-Perry running the game in midfield and Josh Butcher and Charlie Smith creating opportunities up front but without reward. After a scoreless first period the second half continued in a similar vein but credit should go to the Claydon defence who battled well to keep them at bay. Final score 0-0. This week the lads are at home to Brantham Athletic.
UNDER 9’s The teams made the trip away to Ipswich to play at Whitton United, the ‘A’s extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches with a 3-2 win. Luke Barnes and Lewis Hutchings were both on the score sheet for the fourth week running and Matthew Tetley added the third.
The ‘B’ team also continued their good
form; they have won all 12 of their league matches. The 3-1 victory coming
courtesy of two goals from Kieran Smith-Howell, now seven in his last
three matches and one from Harry Mitchell.
This week the lads are away at Holbrook Hornets.
UNDER 10’s By coincidence both teams were away from home this week in the ¼ finals of their cup competitions at Framlingham Town. The ‘A’s are currently in mid table in their division just one place ahead of the opposition so a tight match was always in prospect. The first half saw the home side take the initiative and at the interval were deservedly 1-0 ahead. The second half saw the seasiders get back into the match in spectacular fashion, hitting a half volley from the halfway line the look on Samuel Gilder’s face was a treat as he watched it dip over the keepers head and into the net. A Charlie Driver free kick almost gave the lads the lead a few minutes later but his kick was just wide. The lead did come when a quick throw from Matthew Haskell found Aaron Bull who turned and hit his shot home for 2-1. However, within five minutes the scores were level once more and the game went into extra time. Despite making some good chances the extra time passed without either side adding to the scores and penalties loomed. The lads kept their nerve and with the help of two great saves from Harry Webster, the boys progressed into the semi finals with a 3-1 win. They will travel to Kesgrave Kestrels in the next match in two weeks time.
Despite their poor league form, the ‘B’
team did exceptionally well to qualify for the knock out stages of the cup. Up
against the league leaders, the lads put in a good display although without much
reward. The final score line of 4-0 was a fair reflection of the match but the
lads did not give up and all played well.
This week the lads are away in the league at St Johns.
UNDER 11’s No full details of the boys’ matches at home to Framlingham Town, however I can report that the A’s drew 0-0 and the B’s won 7-1. This week they have no matches.
UNDER 12’s
The lads entertained bottom side Sutton Heath and were looking to extend
an unbeaten run going back to last November.
Despite having the lion’s share of the possession in the first half it was a
single goal from Matthew Bury that divided the two teams at the interval.
The second half started well but again the lads were unable to get the goal they
needed to settle things down. Sutton’s Breakthrough came via a long ball over
the top, with stand in keeper Daniel Finegan up against two attackers, he
managed to block the first effort but the ball rebounded to the second player
who headed home. Having scored the equaliser the visitors got 11 players behind
the ball in an effort to try to steal a vital point. With ten minutes to play it
looked as if their plan may have worked but Jordan White for the second
week running, curled a shot in to the top corner from the edge of the box to
make it 2-1. Pushing up for a second goal, the Sutton defenders were left
exposed and Matthew Bury grabbed his second after some good play by
Jace Smith. He then completed his hat-trick, (now 10 goals in his
last five matches) after a scramble in the goalmouth. The final result was a
good example of the score line not necessarily reflecting the match, but the win
means the lads are now seven points clear at the top of the table.
This week the team are at home to Saxmundham Scorpions.
UNDER 13’s Against a Felixstowe Hawks side that had beaten them 6-4 earlier in the season, the lads after their recent run of good form were ready and up for the local derby. The visitors started well forcing a string of corners, but the home defence held them and made some decent chances on the break. With the first half drawing to a close and the scores still level, George Connor sent a slide rule pass down the line for Nathan Gould; his subsequent cross allowed Joe Coniam the opportunity to fire the ball home to open the scoring. The second period was far more open with Hawks pressing for an equaliser. However, the seasiders defence were impregnable and never looked like conceding. Midway through the half Nathan Gould used his pace to score the second goal past the advancing keeper. The goal knocked the wind out of the visitor’s sails and it was only a matter of time before the lads scored the third. This time Lewis Stiff received the ball on the edge of the penalty area beat one player and rifled the ball into the corner of the net. An excellent team performance with a special mention to the back four of Ricco Dimascio, Liam Butler, Isaac Chenery and Byron Melton who were on fine form together with recently converted keeper Tony Hitchen, who in his third match claimed his first clean sheet. The win moves the lads’ four points clear of the relegation zone. This week they play bottom side Kirton Kestrels.
UNDER 14’s The lads had no match last week, this week they are at home to Debenham.
UNDER 15’s Away at Sixth placed Eye Saints the lads comfortably kept their place at the top of the table with a 7-0 win. Four first half goals sealed the win early on with Liam King netting twice to take his tally for the season to 28 in 19 games. The other strikes came from Michael Peters after 15 minutes and Lewis Maddison just before the interval. Toby Spink added the next early in the second half before Michael scored his second with ten minutes left. The scoring was rounded off with a second for Toby just before the end. The win gives keeper Joseph Carter and the defence a fifth clean sheet of the season and their third in the last four games. With Sproughton and Wickham both also winning the pressure is still on but the lads do have two matches in hand on their rivals. This week the lads are at home to Locomotive Laxfield.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls were at home to Bury Town, and with a full team this week they gave a good performance but were unlucky to lose out by 3-2. Skipper Sophie Crane scored both goals taking her tally for the season to 11. This week the girls are at home to Cornard Dynamos.
UNDER 16’s
Under 16’s V’s Wickham Market
With just one loss in their last five league matches the lads have been slowly closing on the teams above them in the table. At the start of play the visitors were in second place and the seasiders fourth in the table with just a point between them. When the two sides met back in October they shared eight goals between them.
The first ten minutes were a cagey affair with both teams passing the ball well in midfield but neither able to make a breakthrough. The first chance came after Jamal Wiggins won the ball in the middle of the park and slipped it through to Matthew Soper. He then found Charles Gosling whose well struck shot went just wide of the post. A few minutes later a long ball into the area by Charles was headed clear but only as far as Jamal Wiggins who turned and hit the ball on the volley forcing a good save from the Wickham keeper. Sam Read then replaced George Kemp up front and was instantly in the thick of the action. A quick throw out from keeper Declan Harvey found Charles Gosling out wide on the left, he slid the ball down the line to Sam Read who cut inside, beat the oncoming defender and hit a beautiful shot towards the top corner of the goal. The ball curled but not quite enough and it shaved the outside of the post. Sam and Charles then combined again this time to set up a chance for Matthew Soper who again shot just wide. George McCallum then had two chances, the first a shot from the edge of the box which bounced just in front of the keeper but he held on, then a free kick from 35 yards which the keeper palmed away.
Half time 0-0
The second half began much as the first with both defences holding firm. The seasiders back four of Liam Butcher, Sam Boggis, George Monsen and Nick Anderson dealing well with everything that Wickham could offer, with keeper Declan Harvey having very little to do. Midway through the half, a long ball over the top from the visitors gave their striker a chance but strong pressure from George Monsen forced him to shoot wide. A roll out to Nick Anderson from the keeper gave him the opportunity to get forward; he played the ball wide to Lewis Johnston who cut the ball back to the reintroduced George Kemp. He turned and shot but the ball went safely over the bar. A moment later he also headed wide from a ball forward by George Monsen. Searching for a winner Nick Wilding came on at right back, Nick Anderson moved to centre back and Sam Boggis moved forward into midfield to replace Jamal Wiggins. A frantic last few minutes followed with George Kemp laying the ball into the path of Matthew Soper whose shot smashed against the right hand post and away. The resultant clearance fell to Sam Boggis on the edge of the box who hit the ball back into the area but the Wickham keeper saved well again. A good all round performance from the whole team with Nick Anderson taking the man of the match honours for his faultless contribution.
Final score 0-0
A couple of landmarks were reached in the match; Liam Butcher became the second player in the team to make his 200th junior appearance for the club and the 0-0 score line was the first for this team in the 126 games of 11-a-side football they have played. The point gained means that the lads move up into third place in the table. This week they are away at locomotive Laxfield.
UNDER 18’s Saturday The lads continued their push for top spot with a 2-1 win over Martlesham 18’s; they are now just five points behind the leaders with three matches in hand. They have no match this week.
UNDER 18’s Sunday The lads travelled to unbeaten side Scole Lads in the semi finals of the cup. After just two minutes a clearance from inside their own penalty area ricocheted off an attacker and into the net leaving the keeper no chance. From that point on the lads gave a good account of themselves creating good chances but unable to find the finish they needed. With fifteen minutes left to play the home side doubled their lead from a corner and were unlucky not to make it three as they hit the woodwork twice late on. The lads make the same journey again this week as the two sides meet in the league.

UNDER 8’s No details as yet of their matches at Trimley Red Devils. This week is a free week.
UNDER 9’s No details as yet of their matches at home to Shotley Rangers. This week they are away at Whitton United.
UNDER 10’s The spoils were shared in the local derby with Trimley Red Devils. The ‘A’s won 3-1 whilst the ‘B’s lost out by the same score. No details at this time. This week both teams are away at Framlingham Town in their cup ¼ finals.
UNDER 11’s Away in the league to Wickham Market, the ‘A’s lost out 1-0 but still sit in second place in the table. The ‘B’ team are also in second place having won 8-2. No details of the scorers are available at this time. This week the lads are at home to Framlingham Town.
UNDER 12’s
With their nearest rivals not playing, the lads had the chance to extend their
lead at the top of the table when they entertained third placed Whitton
United. After an even first ten minutes the lads made the breakthrough.
Jordan White swung a corner across to the far post and Ben Parker was
there to volley the ball home. Jordan then added the second with a strike
from outside the box the sailed into the top corner, half time 2-0. The second
half saw the lads dominate completely with Matthew Bannister in the
seasiders’ goal only called upon once to make a save. The two strikers linked up
well with Matthew Bury setting up Charlie Kenworthy for the third
goal. Lewis Chaplin was on hand to add the fourth shortly afterwards
before Liam Lacy provided the through ball for Ben Parker to score
his second. At 5-0 the lads were cruising and Matthew Bury and Charlie
Kenworthy were not finished up front, as each provided the ball for the
other to add two more goals. Between them the two lads have scored an incredible
23 times in their last 8 matches. A great win over the team in third place in
the table.
This week the lads entertain bottom side Sutton Heath.
UNDER 13’s
The boys moved out of the relegation zone after a 1-1 draw at home to third
placed Brantham Athletic. From the kick off the visitors were providing
all the attacking moves and were camped for long periods in the seasiders half.
The constant pressure left our lads onto the back foot and after forcing several
corners Brantham got their reward when a good delivery was met with a firm
header which left stand in keeper Tony Hitchen no chance. From that point
on the seasiders seemed to wake up and although they did not create much, they
did battle well to keep the visitors at bay until half time. A call from the
managers to up their work rate and the introduction of substitutes saw the lads
come out for the second half with renewed vigour. Although the lads did start to
create some opportunities, the opposition were not giving up and Tony Hitchen
was called on to make several good stops to keep them in the match. With the
final whistle looming, Lewis Stiff slipped the ball through to George
Connor, from 25 yards out he hit a looping shot that dipped over the
Brantham keeper and into the net. The final few minutes were a frantic affair
with the visitors pushing everyone forward to try to secure the win but the boys
held on for their well deserved point. The result takes the lads out of the
bottom two and a point clear of Sproughton with a game in hand.
This week the lads face a local derby against Felixstowe Hawks.
UNDER 14’s
The lads extended their unbeaten run to 13 matches with a great comeback
performance away at Brantham Athletic. A bright first twenty minutes from
the home side coupled with the seasiders not being at the races saw the lads go
3-0 behind. The catalyst for the comeback surprisingly was an own goal by
Brantham, that seemed to give the lads the wake up they needed and they started
to play some excellent football. Before the interval Luke Turner broke
down the left flank and crossed the ball in for Jake Green to smash home,
but the scoring was not over and Brantham regained the initiative briefly to
make the score at half time 2-4. The second half was a much different affair
with the seasiders taking the match by the scruff of the neck. After some good
work by Sam Cole, Luke Turner then slotted the ball home to reduce the
deficit to one. Linking up with Sam Pett, man of the match, Kieran
Royal, playing in his 150th match for the club, caused
havoc down the right wing and was pinging in cross after cross for the strikers.
The equaliser came courtesy of Ollie Wildig, whose first touch killed the
ball and his second fired home with his supposedly weaker foot. The winner came
with just seven minutes left to play; Luke Turner again provided the
cross, this time for Jordan Youngs to head firmly home. With the top four
teams also winning, things are still very tight with only six points separating
the top five teams with eight matches left.
This week the lads have a well earned week off.
UNDER 15’s The lads still head the table with two games in hand after their 3-2 win over Sutton Heath, full details not available at this time. This week they play away from home at Eye Saints.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS
After some recent good form the girls had a setback at home to Copleston
Sports. With their small squad already stretched to the limit, and with
regulars not available, it meant that the girls started the match with a player
down. Things got worse after 20 minutes when injury meant that most of the match
was played with two players short. Unable to overcome such a big disadvantage,
the girls did battle well, but lost 11-0. A great shame as the girls who did
play, gave 100%.
This week the girls are at home to Bury Town.
UNDER 16’s
Having only played once in the last month, and that a cup match, the lads went
into the away fixture at top of the table Claydon Youth with some
trepidation. Add to that the absence of two first choice keepers and with only
12 players to pick from, things did look a little bleak. A lacklustre first half
from both teams saw the home side just edge it, and it was they who went into
the interval with the 1-0 lead. A halftime word or two and the fact that some of
the lads finally woke up, meant that the second half was a completely different
affair. Playing some good football it was only a matter of time before the lads
got their reward, it came from a long ball forward from George McCallum.
On the edge of the penalty area stood Matthew Soper who pivoted on one
foot and as he turned he hit the ball on the volley with such pace that the
keeper stood no chance whatsoever. With ten minutes remaining Liam Butcher
won the ball out wide on the left and when he swung in his cross, it deceived
everyone including the keeper and ended up in the net for 2-1. A frantic last
few minutes saw the lads hold on at the back and substitute Sam Read was
unlucky not to add to the score at the other end. An excellent result that keeps
the lads in fourth place in the table. With only two points now separating the
top four teams there is still everything to play for.
This week the lads are at home to second placed Wickham Market.
UNDER 18’s Saturday
The lads kept up the pressure on league leaders Martlesham under 17’s with a
comfortable 4-1 win over Bildeston Rangers. The two horse race at the top
of the table now has the seasiders five points behind but with three games in
hand on their rivals.
This week the lads are at home to Martlesham under 18’s.
UNDER 18’s Sunday No game for the lads last week. This Sunday they face the league leaders Scole Lads, in the knockout cup semi-final.

21/22 February 2009
UNDER 8’s Having not played for a couple of weeks, the teams prepared for next Saturdays clash with Trimley with a friendly against Framlingham Town. Against a Fram side that have yet to lose a match, the ‘A’ boys battled well but went a goal behind from a quite unstoppable shot which gave keeper Joby Howe no chance. He did make an excellent save minutes later to deny them a second and the lads were unlucky not to go in at half time all square, when Daniel Poxon’s shot hit the post and bounced out. The second half was a tight affair but it was the home side who grabbed the advantage midway through. A third goal late on sealed the win but overall our lads put in a good performance.
The ‘B’ game saw the seasiders take
control from the outset but some fine defending from the Fram lads meant that
half time there was no score. Early in the second half the boys got their
breakthrough with a bit of old fashioned “route one” football. A long clearance
from keeper Harrison Challis bounced over the Framlingham defence and
Josh Butcher pounced to score his 21st of the season. A second
goal followed soon afterwards when the boys were awarded a penalty and Josh
stepped up to calmly slot the ball home. Late on, a headed goal from a corner
ensured a tense last few minutes but the seasiders defence held firm to give the
lads a well deserved win.
This week they travel to Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 9’s No match for the lads last week. This week they are at home to Shotley Rangers.
UNDER 10’s No match for the lads last week. This Saturday they are at home in the league to Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 11’s No match for the lads last week. This week they are away in the league to Wickham Market.
UNDER 12’s
A top of the table clash saw the seasiders leapfrog the leaders Martlesham
Bombers, to take top spot with a remarkable comeback. Unable to put away the
chances they had made in a tough first half, the lads found themselves 2-0 down
with the interval looming. However, after Charlie Kenworthy broke into
the penalty area and was brought down by the keeper, Jordan White smashed
the resultant penalty into the corner of the net. Defending more resolutely
after the half time break, the lads pulled level with a “Ronaldo” style free
kick from Matthew Bury which he rifled into the far top corner. The
comeback was complete when with five minutes left on the watch; Matthew
lobbed the Martlesham keeper from fully 30 yards out. For the remaining time the
lads kept possession of the ball and could have added a fourth. The win sees the
seasiders a point ahead of their rivals with six league matches left to play.
The tough fixtures continue this week with the visit to Dellwood Avenue of
third placed Whitton United.
UNDER 13’s
Up against second placed Martlesham Mustangs the boys were in for a tough
test, however their recent good form gave them some much needed confidence and
the first half was a fairly even affair. They looked to have held out well but
just before the break they conceded. Second half substitute Sam Barber
rattled the opposition crossbar with a rasping 25 yard drive but unfortunately
that was as close as the lads came. Some good saves by stand in keeper Tony
Hitchen kept the Mustangs at bay for most of the half but a sloppy last ten
minutes by the team allowed the visitors two more goals to seal a 3-0 win.
This week the lads have another tough match at home to third placed Brantham
Athletic.
UNDER 14’s
With the home side Ipswich Athletic, just one place behind the seasider’s
at the start of play a close game was probably expected and for the first
fifteen minutes that was the case with Athletic just edging things as the better
team. However a Sam Cole drive into the bottom corner of the net was the
catalyst for a complete turnaround. A neat one two between Jordan Youngs
and Luke Turner allowed the former to hit the same spot for a 2-0 half
time lead. With regular keeper George Burch back in the side after his
trip abroad, he and his defence gave an assured display to keep the visitors at
bay. Two early goals after the restart from Jordan Youngs to complete his
hat-trick, (his third of the season), soon made the result a formality.
The fourth goal came as a result of a corner. Ben Hunt’s header rattled
the crossbar, David Henshaw shot the rebounding ball towards the goal but
the keeper parried into the path of Hunter Elliston who finished well for
his first of the season. Matt Barratt ghosted in from the left hand side
to slot the ball home and round off the scoring late on. The 6-0 win means that
the lads are now unbeaten in their last twelve matches in all competitions, they
have scored 62 and conceded just 17 in those games.
This week the lads travel to Brantham Athletic.
Featured match
Felixstowe & Walton under 15’s V’s Kirton Kestrels
Team sponsored by IML AGENCIES LTD.
After a three week break the lads were back in action making the short trip across the A14 to play Kirton Kestrels. With captain and centre back Ben Trudget not available, striker Liam King dropped back into defence and he was replaced up front by the lively Joe Varden.
The very first minute saw the home side nearly open the scoring, when through on goal the Kirton striker tried to lob the ball over Joe Carter in the seasider’s goal. He managed to get his fingertips to the ball and take off some of the pace on the shot which gave Lewis Maddison time to race back and clear the ball off of the goal line. Lewis was then involved in the next piece of action when his long clearance was taken down and controlled well by Luke Fountain but his left foot shot went just wide of the Kirton post.
After a lively start the game then settled down
and the two defences took control of the match with neither side creating
chances. However, the deadlock was broken on 21 minutes when Joe Varden
hit a ball into the box from the right hand side. The ball was partially blocked
and eventually fell to the feet of Luke Fountain. From all of 20 yards he
rifled the ball across the keeper and into the far corner of the net.
Just before the interval the lads had a great chance to double their lead.
Hayden Wade broke down the right wing and slipped the ball through to
Luke, he cut inside and shot, but his effort was blocked and the ball
rebounded out to Joe Varden. Joe then struck the ball well but
agonisingly it hit the post and the Kestrels defence were able to clear the
ball.
Half time Seasiders 1 Kirton 0
Early in the second half Joe Varden set Toby Spink through from the left wing and only the intervention of the Kirton keeper, who was off his line very quickly, prevented further addition to the score. With the centre midfield duo of Lawrence Gregory and Michael Peters holding firm, Kirton were forced to continually try to play the ball over the top. With two very quick strikers the ploy was causing problems and Joe Carter had to race off his line on more than one occasion to block shots. He also made a terrific save at his near post when the Kestrels managed to break down their right flank. Having run nonstop for fifty minutes, Joe Varden was replaced up front by Terry Dean who had scored in the home fixture back in November.
Midway through the half another good Felixstowe
move nearly resulted in a goal, receiving the ball from Phillip Cooke,
Michael Peters
played the ball down the right side to Terry Dean who cut the ball back
inside for Luke Fountain whose shot went just inches wide. Having worked
solidly for an hour at left back, Adam Langford then made way for
Jason Brown.
The final fifteen minutes saw an onslaught from a Kirton side determined to
rescue something from the match. First came a screamer of a shot from long range
that Joe Carter did well to help over the bar with his fingertips. This
was quickly followed by a shot to his near post which he managed to turn around
the corner. With five minutes to play, Joe ran out to block the ball on
the edge of his area, the ball then broke loose and the Kirton player chipped
the ball towards the goal. However, alert to the danger, fullback Jason Brown
ran backwards and headed the ball away from goal. Two minutes later a similar
scenario ended with Liam King making the last ditch clearance.
Having absorbed all the pressure, the lads broke away in the dying seconds and
Terry Dean hit a low hard drive that the Kirton keeper just managed to
push around the left hand post.
Final score Seasiders 1 Kirton 0, man of the match Joe Carter.
A hard fought three points against a Kirton side
who made life very difficult at times. With the three teams below them all
picking up points as well, the pressure is still on the lads to keep up their
winning run in the league which now extends to 10 matches going back to October.
This week they are at home to Sutton Heath.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS
Having lost out 6-1 in the reverse fixture back in November, the girls continued
their recent run of good form with a 1-1 draw away at Stowupland Falcons.
Abigail Jewkes’ goal means that the girls have now picked up seven points
in their last four matches.
This week the girls are at home to Copleston Sports.
UNDER 16’s Unable to field a full side, bottom side Whitton United had no choice but to concede the match and the points to the seasiders.
UNDER 18’s Saturday No match last week, this week the lads are at home against Bildeston Rangers.
UNDER 18’s Sunday With Stowupland Falcons unable to field a side, the lads pick up the three points to consolidate their third place in the table. This week they have no fixture.

UNDER 11’s No match for the lads last week. Their next game is on the 28th when they are away in the league to Wickham Market.
UNDER 12’s With the prospect of next weeks’ top of the table clash with Martlesham Youth Bombers, the lads played a friendly against division one side Martlesham Youth Meteors. The first half was Felixstowe all the way and the boys quickly got on the score sheet with a brace from top scorer Charlie Kenworthy and another from Matthew Bury. However, after the break the visitors came out with a bit more purpose and after some good play pulled a goal back for 3-1. Having resisted the pressure for a short while, the boys managed to break out and earned themselves a corner. Jordan White swung the ball in and Matthew Bury leapt the highest and headed home for his second of the day. Charlie nearly scored his hat-trick late on but his first effort hit the post and the rebound was well saved by the Martlesham keeper. Two good saves in open play and a penalty save for the second week running by William Bannister kept Martlesham at bay towards the end of the match. The boys are now unbeaten in nine matches as they go into next week’s vital game against the Bombers.
UNDER 13’s
This week the lads were due to travel away for a relegation six pointer against
fellow strugglers, Sproughton Youth. However with the pitch at Sproughton
unplayable, the two sides agreed to play the match at Langley Avenue to avoid
further pile up in the fixtures. After their win in the cup last weekend the
lads were on a high and their good form continued when Joe Coniam gave
them the lead midway through the first half. With keeper Nathan Bowdidge
unavailable, top scorer Tony Hitchen took the gloves and was able to keep
the visitors out with a confident performance. The second half saw the home side
get more into the game, but it was the seasiders who extended their lead with
fifteen minutes played. Nathan Gould broke through the middle and held
off two tackles before sliding the ball past the advancing keeper. As the game
drew to a close, Sproughton managed to score with a long ball that bounced over
the keeper and a frantic last ten minutes followed. The boys fought bravely to
keep the opposition at bay and claimed all three points. The win leaves the lads
level on points with Sproughton and closer to the teams above in their efforts
to avoid the drop.
This week the lads are at home to Martlesham Youth.
UNDER 14’s No match for the lads last week. This week they are away at Ipswich Athletic.
UNDER 15’s No match for the lads last week. This weekend they make the short trip to play Kirton Kestrels.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS
After winning their last two matches, the girls travelled to 5th
placed Bury Town for what looked on paper to be a much tougher match.
Gabby Swann scored twice for the second week running and Sophie Crane
hit her ninth of the campaign. Unfortunately it produced no reward as the strong
Bury side hit four in reply to sneak the victory. On a brighter note the girls
are now scoring plenty of goals, in their first seven matches they only netted
nine times but in their last five they have knocked in twenty. The match also
saw both Natasha Maskell and Emily Roper make their 50th
appearances for the club. They are the first girls in this team to reach
this landmark.
This week the girls travel to Stowupland Falcons.
UNDER 16’s No match for the lads last week. This week they play at home against bottom of the league side Whitton United.
UNDER 18’s Saturday No match for the lads last week. This week they are at home against Bildeston Rangers.
FELIXSTOWE & WALTON under 18’s Sunday V’s WALSHAM Le WILLOWS
The lads match was moved to The Grove to try and protect the waterlogged pitch at Dellwood Avenue, so they were playing in unfamiliar surroundings for the visit of bottom side Walsham Le Willows. However most of their problems on Sunday were with selection. With keeper Ben Hall out injured for the next few weeks and Kyle Clover out for the rest of the season, the lads were also short of Rob Craig, (sunning himself in the Caribbean) and three others unavailable for other reasons. That left the squad down to just twelve, seven of whom are still under sixteen players and with four having to play in unfamiliar positions.
Captain for the day, Will Colson had his work cut out trying to hold together a makeshift defence, but after a shaky start the lads settled in well. His centre back partnership with Chris Lawrence got better as the game progressed and Louis Johnston and Nick Wilding both battled well at right and left back. With the centre midfield duo of Tom Seaman and Tom White well in control, it was only a matter of time before the lads broke the deadlock. George McCallum raced down the left flank and whipped the ball across the box it missed everyone and found Matthew Kempson running down the opposite wing. Matt’s first touch was not great but he recovered his composure to hook the ball back into the six yard area where striker Nick Duff was on hand to stab the ball home. 1-0.
As the half continued the lads made several good chances but a mixture of solid defending and some excellent saves from the Walsham keeper kept Nick and his strike partner Sam Read at bay. With the seasiders stand in keeper Sam Boggis, a virtual spectator for most of the half the lads looked to be in total control at the interval.
HALF TIME Seasiders 1 - 0
As they often say, “Football is a game of two halves”, and so it proved. The visitors came flying out of the blocks for the second half and closed down our midfield from the start. Conceding a free kick 30 yards from goal, the lads held their line on the edge of the penalty area well. However when the ball was flicked on to the back post a Walsham player slipped away from his marker and comfortably fired the ball home. The first mistake our lads had made but unfortunately it was punished. Denying the lads the room to play in midfield, the game became a test of toughness, determination and discipline. With the tackles flying in, both Will Colson and Tom Seaman picked up yellow cards and with Walsham on the ascendancy; the game could have gone either way.
Two crucial events were to decide the match. The first was a break from midfield by Tom White who after driving down the left side, cut back into the penalty area and onto his right foot to shoot. As he turned he was brought down by the Walsham defender and a penalty was awarded. Nick Duff, who had converted from the spot in the previous league match, stepped up and fired home the penalty for 2-1.
The next twenty minutes saw Walsham give everything, to their great credit they battled hard and had the seasiders on the back foot for long periods. With Nick Wilding having to withdraw with a groin strain, George McCallum went to left back and Ryan Sutherland took over on the wing. Continuing to press forward to score the next goal and seal the win, the lads were thwarted time after time by last ditch tackles by the visitors. At the other end of the field the previously unemployed keeper Sam Boggis was under siege and he pulled off some terrific stops to keep the opposition out. Walsham continued their relentless pressure and the intervention of the post and a goal line clearance by George McCallum were required to keep the boys in front.
The second defining moment came with just two minutes left on the watch, with a Walsham player breaking through the defence and clear on goal, Sam Boggis raced off his line and threw himself in front of the ball to block the shot. A brave move especially for a stand in keeper.
FULL TIME Seasiders 2 - 1
Difficult to pick a man of the match from a great
team performance. The makeshift back four held together very well, the
midfielders all gave 100% and tackled well, and the front two never stopped
running to make chances and to defend when required. However for having the guts
to step into the keeper’s position and then to make some excellent saves, the
man of the match must go to centre back turned keeper, Sam Boggis.
The win sees the lads move up into third place in the league and this week they
travel to Stowupland Falcons.
Roy Kempson.
7/8 February 2009
UNDER 8’s With a couple of free weeks in their league schedule, the lads entertained Martlesham Jets in a friendly at Dellwood Avenue. On a very cold morning the ‘A’ team lads started very well with both Daniel Poxon and Isaac Scott going close early on. Unfortunately against the run of play a deflected shot gave the seasiders’ keeper no chance and the visitors were one up. Riding their luck, they nearly made it two with a good long range effort but Joby Howe made a great full length dive to turn the ball around the post. The second half saw the lads impose themselves on the match and a good linkup between Daniel Poxon and Hayden Craft resulted in Hayden smashing in the equaliser. From that point on the boys never looked back and eventually they grabbed a second goal courtesy of Daniel and comfortably won 2-1.
A sluggish start from the ‘B’s allowed the
visitors to settle into the match and after they failed to clear the ball from a
throw in they were soon a goal behind. Martlesham continued to press and only
some stout defending from Rory Porter and Charlie Boggis kept them
at bay until the interval. The second half was more even with Charlie Smith
setting up both Joshua Butcher and Max Kent with opportunities but
unfortunately neither could finish them off. The boy’s luck deserted them
completely when a deflected shot following a corner gave the visitors a two goal
advantage. With time running out Charlie Smith once more slid a pass
through to Joshua Butcher, this time he fired the ball home for his 20th
of the season! Desperate to try to grab an equaliser, the lads pressed forward,
but in the dying moments the Jets broke quickly from defence and sealed the win
3-1.
The lads’ next league match is on the 28th
when they travel to Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 9’s The teams played rearranged fixtures at home to Sizewell and Knodishall. In the ‘A’ match the lads ran out 3-1 winners with Keiron Bowdidge and Lewis Hutchings on the score sheet. Inevitably the other goal came from the ever prolific Luke Barnes; he has now scored 15 goals in just 11 matches this season.
The ‘B’ match saw a repeat of the result
the last time these teams met which was also a 3-1 victory for the seasiders.
Hayden Dadswell netted twice to make it four goals in his last three games
and Matthew Tetley grabbed the other.
The teams’ next games are on the 28th
when they are at home to Shotley Rangers.
UNDER 10’s No match for the lads last week. Their next game is on the 28th when they are at home in the league to Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 11’s Last week the ‘B’ team had a cup match
away from home at division one high flyers, AFC Kesgrave. The boys were
outgunned on the day and lost out 8-0.
Their next game is on the 28th when
they are away in the league to Wickham Market.
UNDER 12’s Having gone out of the cup at the first hurdle,
last week the lads were at home in the plate competition to division one side,
Claydon Youth. A long range free kick from Matthew Bury set the
boys on their way early on and when Charlie Kenworthy scored the second,
(his eighth in four matches), the ¼ finals beckoned. Jordan White then
swung across a corner which was met at the far post by Ben Parker who got
back on the score sheet after a three month gap. The second half saw Claydon
come back with a bit more steel and they were rewarded with a goal to make it
3-1. Minutes later the three goal advantage was restored when Matthew Bury
hit another long range free kick into the top corner. Claydon did have an
opportunity to get back into the match but when they blasted their penalty over
the bar the result never looked in doubt. Daniel Finegan who has been
playing well since he came back into the squad after breaking his elbow, scored
his first of the season to make it 5-1 before the visitors scored a late
consolation goal. The win sees the boys into the ¼ finals where they will face
either Thorndon or Debenham from division three.
With no league match this week, the lads will
play a friendly against Martlesham.
UNDER 13’s After just one win in their last ten league
matches the lads had a chance to forget about division one points and play in
the cup plate competition, The visitors Bildeston Rangers are flying high
in division two with just one loss all season. An even first half saw neither
team make any quality chances and it looked as if the half would end goalless.
However the seasiders defence failed to clear the ball completely and the
visitors took the chance to go in to the break ahead. The second period was
completely one sided, fortunately it was our boys who were dominating the
proceedings. When they were awarded a penalty George Connor stepped up to
take responsibility but his spot kick crashed off of the bar and out. Substitute
Tony Hitchen was then upended in the penalty area and when he picked
himself up and side footed the ball calmly into the net the scores were level.
Tony then provided the final blow when he was put through on goal. Under
pressure from a Bildeston defender he kept his composure and rifled the ball
past the diving keeper to secure the win. Coincidently, like the under 12’s, the
lads will play the winners of Thorndon and Debenham in the ¼ final.
This week the lads travel away for a relegation
six pointer against fellow strugglers, Sproughton Youth.
UNDER 14’s Last week the lads were at home in the cup ¼
final to fellow division one side Debenham. After comfortably
winning 3-1 they have now booked a place in the semi final against unbeaten
side Ransomes.
This week they have no match.
UNDER 15’s The boys had a bye in the plate competition last
week.
This week they have no match and next week they
make the short trip to play Kirton Kestrels.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls match against Brandon Lasses was
a victim of the weather.
This week the girls are away from home at Bury
Town.
UNDER 16’s At home in the ¼ final of the league cup, the
lads were up against the league leaders Kesgrave Town. Although the lads
are back in sixth place in the league, there are only six points separating the
two sides in the table so a close match was on the cards. With fifteen players
to choose from, the whole squad were up for the match and right from the start
were putting the visitors under pressure. Ten minutes into the match, a terrific
bit of football produced the first goal. Nick Wilding at right back
played the ball inside to midfielder Jamal Wiggins who turned his marker
and played the ball out wide right to Louis Johnston. The ball was
slipped through to striker Declan Harvey whose pinpoint cross found left
winger Charles Gosling at the far post who finished off a great move.
Matthew Soper bent a free kick in from the edge of the box that went close
to increasing the lead and George McCallum rattled the cross bar but to
no avail. The back four had been holding firm but when they tried to play the
ball out rather than clearing their lines they were caught in possession and
Kesgrave equalised. The second half saw the seasiders camped in the opposition
half with chance after chance being created. Substitute Jordan Warne went
close with two headers and man of the match George McCallum had a shot
deflected and the keeper made a terrific save. Confusion reigned when after
Charles Gosling curled in a corner, a melee ensued and the ball appeared to
go into the net off of the Kesgrave keeper. The referee consulted the linesman
and then awarded the goal. However, he then went back to the linesman and spoke
again, the result this time was a goal kick and the match continued much to the
confusion of most of the on looking crowd and players. Fired up again, the lads
pushed forward and gained another corner. This time it was met by Jordan
Warne who leapt the highest and his thundering header left the keeper with
no chance. The lads saw out the remaining five minutes without conceding and
booked a place in the semi final for the second year running.
The lads now have a week off before they play
bottom of the league side Whitton United.
UNDER 18’s Saturday Due to a pitch booking mix up, the lads group cup match against Whitton United was not played. Their next match is in two weeks time against Bildeston Rangers.
UNDER 18’s Sunday The lads got off to the worst possible start in
their Open Cup semi final against local rivals Trimley Red Devils.
Conceding a goal after just four minutes meant they were on the back foot right
from the start. A lacklustre first half performance from the seasiders saw the
visitors with most of the play and possession and they were probably annoyed not
to go in to the interval without adding to their score. The efforts of Ben
Hall in the Felixstowe goal did not go unnoticed as he made several good
saves to keep them at bay. Another slip up early in the second half meant that
Trimley were 2-0 ahead and looking far too comfortable. Some choice words from
the sidelines seemed to get the lads a bit more fired up and slowly they got
more into the match. A change in formation and the introduction of Tom White
with an hour played had an instant impact. Tom flicked the ball on with
his head with probably his first touch of the game and Chris Lawrence ran
in at the far post to slide the ball in for his first goal for the team. The
last half an hour saw the lads make several more opportunities, Matthew
Kempson, Will Reynolds, Nick Duff and Sam Read all had chances late
on, but they could not find the equaliser they needed. The game did see centre
back William Colson make his landmark 200th appearance
for the team.
This week the lads are at home to bottom side
Walsham Le Willows.

31 Jan / 1st Feb 2009
UNDER 8’s This week the lads were away at Martlesham Wolves. Up against a team that had beaten them 4-0 back in September, the ‘A’ team had their work cut out from the start. They set about the task well and despite dominating the possession in the first period, they could not make the vital breakthrough. The second half continued in a similar vein with Isaac Scott making some good runs down the left wing. A corner was won as a result of one of his runs and when Daniel Poxon side footed the ball home, they finally got their reward. Any attacks by Martlesham were being comfortably dealt with by Keeper Joby Howe and the defensive partnership of Tom Lygo and Tom Bury. With five minutes left to play the win was assured when some good approach work by Finn Sheppard set up Daniel Poxon who rifled in his second goal, final score 2-0.
The ‘B’s followed on where the ‘A’s had
left off with an impressive first half display making several good chances but
unable to finish them off. Eventually one was dispatched after Josh Butcher’s
corner was headed home by Max Kent to give the lads the lead at the
break. The second half again saw the boys make chances, but unfortunately their
shooting boots were not on and inevitably the one chance that fell to Martlesham
was well taken and the scores were levelled. Try as they might the seasiders
could not find the winning goal and the game finished all square.
The lads’ next match is on the 28th when they travel to Trimley
Red Devils.
UNDER 9’s The team had no match this week; their next game is on the 28th when they are at home to Shotley Rangers.
UNDER 10’s The boys played their final group cup matches at home to Chantry Grasshoppers. The ‘A’s needed a win to give them a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages and they came through well. Both sides made chances early on but it was the seasiders who made the first breakthrough. Sam Gilder floated a free kick into the penalty area and a Chantry defender trying to clear the ball headed into his own goal. Before the interval it was 2-0 when Aaron Bull flicked the ball over a defenders head, ran around him to collect the ball and then hammered it home. After the break the boys continued to press forward and when Sam Gilder finished well from a Charlie Driver corner the win was in the bag. Matthew Haskell then went on run which ended with his through ball finding Aaron who once again took his chance to keep up his great goal scoring record, now 17 in 13 games. Oliver Ruffles nearly made it five at the end of the match but after his excellent run he shot just wide. Almost a spectator, Harry Webster in goal achieved his third clean sheet of the season with the help of his defence. Barring a 10 goal winning margin by Martlesham in their last group match the win should see our boys through to the ¼ finals.
In the ‘B’ game, the situation was clear
that only a win would give the lads a chance to progress into the next stage.
Having won only by the odd goal in their league meeting back in September, since
then Chantry’s league form had been much improved. Camped in the seasiders half
from the outset it was only some fine defending, in particular from Ben Read
that kept the Grasshoppers at bay. The second half was a much more even affair
as far as possession was concerned with both sides making chances. Ben Read
had a shot saved and Connor Sorhaindo and Callum Burrows both went
close. Oliver Rose made some good saves but eventually the constant
pressure paid off and two late goals saw Chantry run out the winners.
The boys’ next game is on the 28th when they are at home in the
league to Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 11’s No matches for the lads last weekend, this week the ‘B’ team have a cup match away at division one high flyers, AFC Kesgrave.
UNDER 12’s The lads extended their unbeaten league run to seven matches with a comfortable win away at mid table side Ipswich Athletic. An early strike from Lewis Chaplin gave the boys the lead but despite several chances they were unable to add to the score. As fate would have it, in their only attack of the first half, Ipswich equalised to leave the score at half time 1-1. The second half was a different affair, as the lads continued their onslaught of the opposition goal but this time taking their chances. Jordan White followed in after a Charlie Kenworthy shot was not held by the keeper, to make it 2-1. Charlie then continued his great goal scoring run with two quick goals of his own; he now has seven in his last three matches. Looking for his first goal of the season, Daniel Finegan was denied by the woodwork before Jace Smith rounded off the scoring late on. Final score 5-1. This week the lads are at home in the cup to division one side, Claydon Youth.
UNDER 13’s This week the lads were at home to a Sutton Heath side that had beaten them 6-0 in the reverse fixture back in September. Playing into the fierce wind the lads were under constant pressure and went a goal down early on. On a rare foray into the opposition half the lads nearly scored an equaliser but a mishit shot in front of goal gave Sutton a chance to break away and resulted in them scoring their second goal. The boys fought on bravely and were relieved to hear the half time whistle without further loss. With five changes made during the interval and with the wind at their backs, the second half was a more even affair. Unfortunately a long range shot that the keeper could only palm into the corner of the net gave the visitors a three goal lead. To their credit the lads continued to plug away and they were rewarded when a flowing move ended with Joe Coniam slotting the ball home for his first league goal of the season. Almost immediately afterwards another long range effort restored the three goal advantage for Sutton but the boys refused to give up and top scorer Tony Hitchen scored a consolation goal at the end. Final score 2-4. This weekend the lads have a chance to forget their league woes with the visit of division two side Bildeston Rangers, in the cup.
UNDER 14’s
Having only played just once since Christmas, the lads were keen to get back into action and continue an
unbeaten league run that stretches back to mid October. Despite their good run
the lads are in fifth place in the league and trying to hang on to the top four
teams, so the trip to third placed Whitton United was a must win game.
Back in September Whitton ran out 4-1 winners but the seasiders have made some
excellent progress since then and were optimistic of getting something out of
the game. Unfortunately 20 minutes into the match the lads found themselves 2-0
down and with striker Daniel Bowditch carried off with a twisted ankle,
things were looking bleak. However just before the interval, Luke Turner
used his pace through the middle of the pitch to break through and shoot into
the corner for 1-2. Early in the second half Luke repeated his feat and
the scores were level. He then caught out the Whitton defence once more, this
time his shot was saved but Jordan Youngs was on hand to fire the ball
home. The opposition obviously had not learnt from their mistakes, as Luke
completed his hat-trick soon after with another well timed run. Having clawed
their way back from 2-0 down, to 4-2 ahead the lads were determined to hang on
to their lead. A late penalty for the home side ensured that the final five
minutes were very tense but the lads held on and deserved their three points.
The lads are still in fifth place in the table but the top five teams are now
separated by just six points. This week the lads are at home in the cup ¼ final
to fellow division one side Debenham.
FEATURED MATCH
FELIXSTOWE & WALTON under 15’s V’s THORNDON VIPERS
Having been relegated last season after a torrid year that saw the lads only achieve one point from 22 league matches. This season the lads have returned with just a couple of additions to their squad as a revitalised team. Having won all of their last eight league matches, the team are currently topping the division two table with two games in hand on their nearest rivals. The boys are sponsored by I M L Agencies.
This week’s visitors to Langley Avenue were
Thorndon Vipers who are struggling near the bottom of the table. With the
seasiders playing into the strong wind in the first half the opposition took
advantage and tried to hit a long ball over the defenders heads, but keeper
Joseph Carter was off his line quickly to deal with it comfortably. With
just three minutes on the watch a poor clearance from Thorndon rebounded to the
feet of Luke Fountain, he slipped the ball through to fellow striker
Liam King who slid the ball into the corner of the net for an early lead.
From that point on it was Felixstowe & Walton all the way.
The next chance came from a ball in midfield played out wide by Toby Spink,
Hayden Wade cut inside but his shot was just wide. Four minutes later
Terry Dean won the ball out wide on the left and played it inside to
Toby, he then played it through to Liam whose shot was saved. Toby
then broke forward on his own and beat two players but again was thwarted by
the Vipers keeper. Just when it looked as if the visitors were going to keep on
riding their luck, it ran out. A long ball forward from Hayden found
Luke who squared the ball to Liam who tapped in for the second goal.
The flood gates then opened, two minutes later a long kick forward by keeper
Joe Carter was headed backwards by the Thorndon centre back, Liam King
anticipated well and ran through to complete his hat-trick in just 30 minutes.
An injury to right back Oliver Charles meant that Phillip Cooke took over for the remainder of the match. Toby Spink was involved again in the next move when he played the ball out wide left to Michael Peters. He cut back inside the full back and his shot from a very tight angle beat the despairing dive from the keeper, 4-0. Hayden Wade then provided the pass for the next goal, sliding it through from the right wing he found Luke Fountain who finished well.
HALF TIME 5-0 seasiders.
The first 15 minutes of the second half saw
Thorndon at their best, despite the score line they came out for the second
period as if it was 0-0 and fought for everything. They were under immense
pressure with Hayden Wade, Liam King, Terry Dean and sub
Jason Brown on for Toby Spink all coming close and another sub
Joseph Varden whose shot from 30 yards was tipped over the bar by the
overworked keeper.
Hayden then fed another ball through
to Liam who sliced his shot sideways, but when your luck is in nothing
goes wrong and the ball fell nicely to Luke Fountain who scored his
second and the teams sixth. Ashley Lacey then replaced the exhausted
Hayden out on the right side of midfield.
Not to be outdone centre half Lewis Maddison
won the ball and drove forward into the opposition half. He played a neat ball
forward to Luke whose shot was blocked but the rebound fell to Liam
who slotted the ball home for his fourth goal. With ten minutes left to play
Luke was brought down in the penalty area. He picked himself up and although
the keeper got his fingers to the ball he could not keep the ball out and
Luke had his hat-trick. Having done their bit both Luke and Liam
were rested for the last few minutes and James Taylor and Toby Spink
came on.
With just a few minutes left, the scoring was completed when Ashley Lacey
broke down the right hand side and crossed the ball into the box. Breaking
forward was Jason Brown who cracked the ball home for his first goal for
the club to the obvious delight of his team mates. Despite the 9-0 score line
the man of the match was the Captain and centre back, Ben
Trudget who marshalled his team from the back and together with his defence
and keeper, gave up nothing all morning.
FULL TIME 9-0 seasiders.
The boys have a bye in the cup this week, so they have no match.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS After gaining their first win of the season last time out, the girls travelled to Bacton United for a match against a team they drew 3-3 with back in October. Despite only having the minimum nine players needed for the game the girls dominated proceedings and ran out 7-1 winners. Full details of the match are not available but Sophie Crane and Gabby Swann scored twice each, Rebecca Cope and Emily Roper added two more and a Bacton own goal completed the scoring. Next week the girls are away at top of the table Brandon Lasses.
UNDER 16’s Back in action after six weeks without a match, the lads were away at Kesgrave Kestrels. With keeper Will Fuller now at Ipswich Town and two of the lads now regularly playing for the reserves and first teams, this week the team have been a victim of their own success. Unfortunately four others were out with illness and another committed to a school hockey match, so from what was a large squad only ten players were available for the match. Undaunted, the lads set out with a great attitude and took the game to the opposition making several early chances. George McCallum’s in swinging corner hit the bar, Declan Harvey hit a shot just wide and Charles Gosling, George Monsen and Jamal Wiggins all went close. Unfortunately two mistakes were both punished by Kesgrave and at half time our lads were 2-0 behind. The second period saw no let up from the seasiders and Matthew Soper hit a great shot that rebounded off of the post but it went straight into the arms of the Kestrels keeper. Sam Boggis hit a free kick from 20 yards that went inches wide and Declan Harvey also went close with a shot just over the bar. Despite some excellent saves by keeper Ben Hall, eventually having the extra man paid off and Kesgrave scored twice more to win 4-0. A great effort against a good side by ten men who were praised everyone present including the opposition manager for their grit and determination. This weekend the lads have a ¼ final cup match against the league leaders Kesgrave Town.
UNDER 18’s Saturday The lads match against Whitton United was postponed.
UNDER 18’s Sunday Having lost to Stowupland Falcons 7-0 in their first ever league match, the Sunday lads were keen to show how much they have improved and to continue their recent good form, 10 points from their last five matches. With pivotal midfielder Kyle Clover out after breaking his leg playing for the reserves the day before, (we all wish him a speedy recovery), and several other players not available, it was a reshuffled side that took to the field at Dellwood on a wintery afternoon. With a slightly different formation to counter the visitors attacking play, things were going well with chances being made up front and the lads comfortable at the back. Unfortunately with fifteen minutes played, a single slip up left a player unmarked at the far post and the Stowupland striker finished easily. The rest of the half saw the lads play the better football but without any reward for their efforts. Knowing that if they continued to keep playing as they were they would make chances, the seasiders kept on battling. Their hard work finally paid off with just seven minutes left when Will Reynolds flicked the ball into the penalty area for winger Matthew Kempson to run on to. The on form Matthew took a touch and then slotted the ball home for his 5th goal in his last six matches. With just three minutes left, skipper Will Reynolds sprinted into the penalty area and was brought down. With usual penalty taker Kyle absent from proceedings, substitute Nick Duff took on the responsibility and blasted the ball into the corner of the net. A nervous couple of minutes followed but the lads kept their concentration and the win moves them up to fourth place in the table above Trimley and behind Stowupland just on goal difference. A good performance from all the lads but a special mention to Jamal Wiggins, who played his first full game for the team. Filling in for Kyle in centre midfield and then at right back late on, he put in an excellent performance. This week the lads are playing their Open Cup semi final, against Trimley Red Devils.

Under 16’s player makes 1st team debut First of all, many congratulations to one of our under 16’s players LIAM BUTCHER, who last Saturday made his debut for the 1st team at home against league leaders Lowestoft Town. Playing at left back, Liam played the whole ninety minutes and gave a very good account of himself in a difficult match.
UNDER 8’s Away at Woodbridge Town and on an overly large pitch the ‘A’ team boys started well and used the extra space to their advantage playing some good passing football. Half time came and despite dominating the match, the lads were unable to break the deadlock. Early in the second period a great run from man of the match, Daniel Poxon set up Isaac Scott at the far post to slide the ball home. With only seven ‘A’ players available, as the game wore on the large pitch began to take its toll on the seasiders and with the home side introducing substitutes, the fresh legs gave them an advantage. In the dying moments after relentless pressure a good strike from Woodbridge gave them the equaliser and rounded off a great game from both teams.
The ‘B’s continued their excellent run of form; they have lost just one of their eight league matches and one of their six friendlies this season. Against a team that have been beaten just once all season, the boys got off to the best possible start. A thunderbolt of a shot from Charlie Smith, smacked back off of the post and Joshua Butcher showed why he is the team’s top scorer by reacting the quickest to fire in the rebound for an early lead. The rest of the half was a tight affair with both teams playing well but cancelling each other out. The second half was a little more open with chances at both ends. The Woodbridge keeper made a couple of good saves and Harrison Challis in the seasiders goal made a great save with five minutes to play, to keep the lads in front. Unfortunately, with time running out, a scramble in the goalmouth following a corner, resulted in an own goal and the scores were levelled. Both teams had chances to snatch victory at the death, but in the end a draw was probably a fair reflection on the game as a whole. This week the lads are away at Martlesham Wolves.
UNDER 9’s Although this age group play their matches as a friendly league, a home fixture against Trimley Red Devils will always be very competitive. The ‘A’s repeated their result from the away match last month with a very tightly fought 1-1 draw, the seasiders goal coming from Samuel Clarkson. While the ‘B’s maintained their 100% winning league record with a 2-1 win courtesy of an own goal and a rare strike from Raven Cowan. This week the team have no match.
UNDER 10’s Full details of the home match against Witnesham Wasps are not available at the moment but the ‘A’s drew 1-1 and the ‘B’s lost out 0-4. The lads now have a free weekend.
UNDER 11’s With no match last weekend, the ‘B’s are away at Kesgrave on the 7th of February in the plate competition, and the lads then have a three week break before they are back in league action away at Wickham Market.
FELIXSTOWE & WALTON under 12’s V’s SIZEWELL & KNODISHALL
The under 12’s in their first year as an 11-a-side team has been quite a success with only one loss in the league and currently in second place in the table. The team are sponsored by CHINA SHIPPING.
The match got underway with the lads playing in a conventional 4-4-2 formation,
and within a minute they were a goal up. Midfielder Ben Parker played a
lofted ball into the box and in an effort to clear the ball the unfortunate
Sizewell defender headed the ball back over his own keeper and into the net.
Two minutes later the lead was doubled when Matthew Bury slid the ball
out wide to Ben Parker whose cross was met at the far post by
Charlie Kenworthy who headed home.
Not to be outdone, Sizewell pressed forward and were unlucky not to score
when their striker broke through but his shot was just wide and hit the side
netting.
The next goalmouth action came from a seasider’s corner swung in by
Jordan White. Once again it was Ben Parker in the thick of it all as
his header went centimetres wide of the upright. From the resultant goal kick
the ball fell short to Matthew Bury his low shot from the edge of the
penalty area ricocheted off of the visitors post.
Just before the quarter hour mark,
Matthew Bury rifled a free kick in from the right side. The ball beat the
diving keeper but hit the bar and bounced down into the crowded box. Several
players lunged at the ball but it was Charlie Kenworthy
who got the final touch, to stab the ball home. Dominating the
game the seasiders continued to press and two more free kicks from Jordan
White and Matthew Bury were well saved by the keeper.
With twenty minutes played the first of the rolling substitutions took place
with Daniel Finegan replacing midfielder Ben Parker, Jacob
Mulvey for Haydon Mitton at right back and Jace Smith up front
for Matthew Bury.
In the final ten minutes of the half the visitors pushed on to try
to get back into the match but the central defensive partnership of
Peter Read
and Jack Maidment held firm.
HALF TIME 3-0 Seasiders.
At the start of the second half, keeper
William Bannister, playing in his 100th game for the club was forced
to leave the match through illness and his place between the posts was taken by
Daniel Finegan.
After an early scare when Ben
Parker hit a long range shot towards the top corner which was well saved, it
was a revitalised Sizewell & Knodishall team that began to press forward. A ten
minute spell followed with the visitors in the ascendency. Again the seasiders
defence was up to the job with full backs Jacob Mulvey and Liam Lacey
playing well.
Having weathered the storm, the lads then upped the pace again and created
more chances. Jace Smith ran through onto a ball from Charlie
Kenworthy and his well hit shot was on target, but the keeper got down well
to push the ball around the post.
Ben Parker then headed the ball
towards goal from a corner but once again he was thwarted by the keeper who was
doing his best to keep his team in the match.
With ten minutes left to play the squad was
rotated again with Haydon Mitton back on at full back for Liam Lacey
and Matthew Bury on up front for Charlie Kenworthy.
The seasider’s two wide players Jordan White and Tom Morrissey
had caused the visiting defence no end of problems and it was Jordan
who set up the next opportunity. His ball in from the left was well met by
midfielder Lewis Chaplin but the ball went straight into the keepers
arms.
Another spell of pressure from the visitors saw them force two more
corners. The first was cleared by a header from
Peter Read
and when the ball was played back in Jacob
Mulvey was on hand to clear his lines. A minute later it was man of the
match, Ben Parker who headed the ball off the line to safeguard the
clean sheet. Having absorbed the pressure the boys broke forward down the
left wing. Matthew Bury dribbled past three players in the penalty area
before unselfishly slipping the ball through to Lewis
Chaplin who slid the ball into the corner of the net.
FULL TIME 4-0 Seasiders.
A great performance from the whole squad which leaves the lads just two points away from the top of the table. This week the lads are away at Ipswich Athletic.
UNDER 13’s No match last weekend, this week the lads are at home to Sutton Heath.
UNDER 14’s No match last weekend, this week the lads are away at top of the table Whitton United.
UNDER 15’s No match last weekend, this week the lads are at home to Thorndon Vipers.
UNDER 16’s No match last weekend, this week the lads are away at Kesgrave Kestrels.
UNDER 18’s Saturday No match last weekend, this week the lads are at home to Whitton United.
UNDER 18’s Sunday The teams match away at Scole Lads was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. This week they are at home to Stowupland Falcons.

17/18 January 2009
UNDER 8’s
Without a match in the last five weeks, the teams played friendlies to get back
into the swing of things after an extended Christmas break. The visitors to Dellwood were a strong AFC Kesgrave
outfit who had played twice during the
Christmas period and their recent match practice seemed to give them a big
advantage. The ‘A’ match started with the visitors taking the lead after
a corner was not properly cleared. However, the boys hit back straight away
after Finn Sheppard’s cross was met by Hayden Craft for his 12th
goal in 13 matches. A fine stop by keeper Joby Howe from a free kick kept
the team in contention but just before the interval they were hit on the break
and the visitors went 2-1 ahead. The second half was a tight affair with both
teams making chances; the best of the seasiders was from Daniel Poxon
whose shot was well saved by the Kesgrave Keeper, final score 1-2.
The ‘B’s suffered only their second defeat in 13 matches, losing out 2-0.
Keeper Harrison Challis had kept the visitors at bay during the first
half but after the interval the constant pressure by Kesgrave paid off.
Next week the lads are back in action away at Woodbridge Town.
UNDER 11’s Up against fellow title chasers Chantry Youth, the teams had mixed fortunes. The ‘A’s who started the day level on points had an emphatic 7-1 win to put them clear in second place in the table. The ‘B’s however, slip down to third place after a 3-1 defeat. Chantry now lead them on goal difference. The lads now have a free week.
UNDER 12’s With the seasiders in second place playing away at fourth placed but still unbeaten Holbrook Hornets a tight match was always on the cards and so it proved. Charlie Kenworthy got the scoring underway for the visitors only for the home side to equalise. A short while later he repeated the feat to make it 2-1 but again the lads were pegged back. A goal either side of half time gave Holbrook a 4-2 lead and the game looked to be slipping away until a brace from Matthew Bury levelled the scores for the third time in the match. When Charlie Kenworthy completed his hat-trick the lads took control again and a final goal from Lewis Chaplin sealed the win and the three points in a remarkable comeback. Next week the lads play Sizewell and Knodishall in their first home match since the 1st of November.
UNDER 13’s This week saw the visit of the league leaders Trimley Red Devils. The visiting team have a record of played 13 won 13 this season, and with the seasiders down in 11th place they really had their work cut out. Two goals down at the break the lads were playing well and still in with a chance but an early goal after the interval sealed their fate. Tiring towards the end of the match the lads conceded four late efforts to leave the visitors comfortable 7-0 victors. A highlight of the day saw Liam Butler make his 100th appearance for the club; he is the seventh member of the squad to reach this landmark. Next week the lads face fellow strugglers Sproughton Youth.
UNDER 15’s The under 15’s season is still well on track despite a scare against the one from bottom side Trinity Rangers. Their 5-4 win, (scorers not available at this time), keeps them at the top of the table three points clear and with a game in hand on the chasing pack. The lads match this week has been postponed.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS At home to Witnesham Wasps, the girls achieved their first win of the season with a 4-3 victory. Having lost the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign the girls fought well to ensure that they move up a place in the table and away from the bottom two. A goal each from Sammy-Jo Hobson, Abigail Jewkes and Emily Roper, together with a Wasps OG gave the girls their three points. The girls now have a free week before they face bottom side Bacton.
UNDER 18’s With rivals Martlesham Youth winning 8-0 at Witnesham, the Saturday lads lead at the top of the table was cut to just two points after they drew 2-2 at home to Kirton Kestrels. With a depleted squad to choose from on the day, the two goals from striker Lee Witchalls keep the team at the top of the league with nine matches left to play. The lads’ next match against Holbrook has been postponed.
The Sunday team played only their second match in nine weeks and got off to the best possible start with a goal in the third minute. With Will Reynolds running in to put pressure on the Trimley Red Devils keeper, the ball popped out and Matthew Kempson swung his left foot at the ball and it rolled into the corner of the net. Just over ten minutes later the lead was doubled following some good build up play on the right side. Will Reynolds, Chris Lawrence and Tom White were all involved but eventually the ball fell to Matthew Kempson who struck the ball well towards the near post. The keeper seemed to have the shot covered but then failed to hold the ball and it crept over the line. The lads then continued to dominate the rest of the first half without reward but the back four and keeper held firm until the half time interval. The second half saw a revitalised Trimley side who pressed right from the start. Gaining a free kick on the edge of the box the ball was launched into the six yard area. Keeper Ben Hall came out to claim the ball and had his hands on it before he was challenged, as a result of the challenge the ball fell to the ground and following a scramble it finished in the back of the net. Within a minute the two goal advantage was restored when a shot ricocheted into the path of Tom White who kept his composure to calmly slot the ball home. Trimley hit back again within two minutes when a slip at the centre of defence gave the visiting strike force a spare man who gave the keeper no chance sliding the ball into the corner of the net. With the game continuing to flow from end to end it was the seasiders who had the next chance. A fantastic freekick from 30 yards by Rob Craig looked to be flying into the top corner of the net but it just clipped the bar and went over. From that point on the game seemed to settle down with the home side the most likely to add to their score but when they least expected it another slip at the back on the very greasy surface allowed the visitors a chance which they took well to level the scores. Final score 3-3, next week the lads travel to Scole Lads.

Saturday 13th December 2008
UNDER 11’s Away at local rivals Trimley Red Devils the ‘A’ side won 4-1 and the ‘B’s won 2-1. Details to follow, the lads now have a break until the New Year.
UNDER 12’s The lads made the short trip to Kirton to take on a Kestrels team that they had comfortably beaten 7-0 earlier in the season. In an effort to counteract the seasiders strikers, the Kirton side decided to, in the words of Jose Mourinho, (park the team bus in front of the goal). For the whole of the game the seasider’s keeper William Bannister’s only struggle was to try and keep warm as he had nothing to do. Try as they might the lads could not break down the stubborn Kestrels defence and late on Lewis Chaplin came close but was denied by the post. 0-0 is a rare score in junior football so some credit must go to Kirton who set out to gain a point and succeeded. The boy’s last game before Christmas is away at Framlingham Town.
UNDER 13’s The lad’s game last week against Martlesham Mustangs was postponed.
UNDER 14’s The boys continued their recent run of good form, (unbeaten in their last seven matches); with a 9-0 demolition of bottom side Witnesham Wasps. With only twelve players available because of illness and injury the lads had to make sure they kept their heads against a team that had improved of late, having lost by just an odd goal in their last two matches. However, there was no need to worry as the boys set to their task straight from the kickoff. Luke Turner got the scoring underway first before Kieran Royal with his fourth in four matches made it two. The third came from an excellent piece of football starting with the keeper Daniel Spink who rolled the ball out and after three first time passes it was Luke who finished well for his second. Just before the interval, Elliot Deakin headed home an Ollie Wildig corner for the fourth. The second half followed a similar pattern with Ben Hunt crashing his shot into the top corner which was soon followed by Jordan Youngs who hit his 14th of the season. A Luke Turner cross was headed home by Ben Hunt for the 7th before Matt Barratt made it 8-0 after prodding the ball past the helpless and forlorn Wasps keeper. Ollie Wildig became the 7th different name on the score sheet when he rifled home the ninth and it looked as if double figures were on the cards. The referee however had different plans and on a freezing cold day decided that enough was enough and blew up a few minutes early to spare the Witnesham lads any further punishment. This week the lads are away at Claydon.
UNDER 15’s Away at second placed Sproughton Youth the lads won 3-0 and now move six points clear at the top of the table. This week the lads travel to Bildeston Rangers.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls travelled away to play an unbeaten Woodbridge Town team who earlier in the season had put nine goals past them. With regular keeper Hannah Emery finally back in the team after a lengthy injury, the girls were optimistic. Unfortunately the best laid plans do not always come to fruition! After just fifteen minutes a heavy challenge forced Hannah to retire from the match and with just the bare minimum nine players available the girl’s were playing one short. Sammy Jo Hobson took over between the posts but with the home team on fine form the inevitable happened and try as they might the girls could not keep them at bay. The final score of 0-12 does not do the girls justice as they battled all of the way to the end of the match. The girl’s next match is after the Christmas break when they entertain Brandon Lasses.
UNDER 16’s The lads made it three wins in their last four league games with a 2-1 home win over Brantham Athletic. With some of the lads away on County duty once again, it was up to those who were left to brave the freezing conditions at Langley Avenue. With both sides playing some good football and creating chances it was an even first period. The seasiders broke the deadlock after a through ball from Sam Read found Matthew Soper who fired the team ahead from the edge of the area. Ben Hall made a good save to keep Brantham at bay and some good defending, particularly from man of the match Nick Wilding ensured that going into the break the lad’s lead was intact. The second half saw the visitors up the tempo and deservedly score an equaliser, but our boys kept on playing the ball well and eventually they got their reward. A rifled shot from 25 yards from George Kemp gave them the lead, which they held onto to the final whistle. The team now have a break until the New Year.
UNDER 18’s The Saturday lads were due to be at home to Campsea Ash Rangers, however, because of a lack of available players, the game was awarded to our side. This week they are at home to Framlingham Town.
Once again the Sunday lad’s game was postponed due to the weather, the lads have not played for five weeks. Hopefully they will be away at Walsham Le Willows this weekend.
Roy Kempson.
Saturday 6th December 2008
UNDER 8’s Last week the lads were at home to unbeaten Woodbridge Town. The ‘A’s started well and in a close match, neither side could gain the advantage and at half time the scores were level at 0-0. Piling on the pressure after the break, the visitors went one up and only a fine save from Joby Howe prevented them from doubling the lead minutes later. With time running out and the seasiders pushing for the equaliser, Woodbridge snatched a second goal for a well deserved win. The ‘B’ game saw a visiting team that had dominated all of their matches this season against our lads who have lost just once. In a tight first period Charlie Boggis and Rory Porter in the heart of defence were on fine form to keep out the Woodbridge attack. In the centre of midfield Theo Warren was winning his tackles and when Charlie Smith slipped the ball through to Joshua Butcher, he made no mistake with a great strike. With their 1-0 lead intact, the lads started the second half strongly and Joshua soon made it 2-0 with his 18th goal of the season. The visitors then pulled a goal back and with added confidence they pushed forward, only a fine tackle from Lewis Saunders and two great saves from Harrison Challis ensured that they did not get back on level terms. Spurred on by Louis Donovan-Perry’s terrific work-rate in midfield, the seasiders continued to attack and two goals followed from Louis Stanbridge to seal a fantastic 4-1 victory. This week the lads travel to Claydon in a repeat of their first fixture of the season.
UNDER 9’s The lads were away at Trimley Red Devils; unfortunately I do not have any details of the match at this time. This week they are at home to Wickham Market.
UNDER 10’s This week the lads travelled away from home to play Witnesham Wasps. The ‘A’ team were up against the unbeaten league leaders who had conceded just three goals in their first six league matches. As expected the Wasps started strongly and took an early lead but our lads did not give up and kept pushing forward. Eventually the seasiders forced a corner and when Aaron Bull floated the ball in to the box the home keeper could only parry the ball away. The ball fell at the feet of Samuel Gilder who without hesitation hammered it goal ward and into the back of the net. The second half saw the Wasps camped for long periods in the Felixstowe half, but some fine saves by Harry Webster and some good defending from Sam and his partner at the back Josh Young kept them at bay. Late on the lads nearly stole the three points when Charlie Driver’s shot hit the side netting but the lads were pleased with their well deserved draw. The ‘B’ team however have been having a torrid time this year and are still looking for their first points of the season. Being 2-0 behind at half time Witnesham then scored another just after the break. Connor Sorhaindo did pull one back in the latter stages and Kieran Brunning was unlucky not to add another just before the final whistle. The lads first points are still eluding them but they will keep battling I am sure. This week the lads are at home to Woodbridge Town.
UNDER 11’s At home to the league leaders Felixstowe Hawks, the ‘A’s suffered their first defeat of the season losing out 4-1 and the ‘B’s were unlucky to lose by 4-3. No other details were available at this time. This week the lads are away at Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 12’s Having lost just once this season, the lads were keen to keep the pressure on the league leaders Martlesham with a win away from home at Sizewell & Knodishall. The first half looked to be ending in a stalemate until with seconds to play; the home side snatched a goal to lead at the interval. Early in the second half Matthew Bury was brought down in the penalty area and Jordan White slotted the ball home to level the scores. With the play all going Felixstowe’s way, the Sizewell keeper dropped the ball and Matthew pounced to make it 2-1. Jordan then followed up with a goal from the edge of the area and the lads were 3-1 up and in charge. The referee then blew for full time and the teams began to shake hands, he then realised he had made a mistake and that there were still seven minutes to play, so the match was restarted. Sizewell quickly scored and the game was once more in the balance until Matthew Bury scored his second and the teams fourth to seal the win. This week the boys are away at Kirton Kestrels who they beat 7-0 on the opening day of the season.
UNDER 13’s With fellow strugglers Sproughton Youth the visitors to Langley Avenue, a win would see either side jump clear of the relegation positions. The visitors made the better start but against the run of play our lads took the lead when Lewis Stiff played the ball through to Tony Hitchin who slotted the ball home. Unfortunately the lead only lasted for a couple of minutes, Sproughton hit back and at half time the scores were level. The second half saw the visitors once more take the lead after a defensive mistake but again the lads hit back through Lewis Stiff who scored his first goal for the club. As the game neared its conclusion, Sproughton again snatched a goal which this time would prove to be the winner. This week the lads have the unenviable task of entertaining Martlesham mustangs who have lost just once this season and who beat our lads 7-0 on the opening day of the campaign.
UNDER 14’s Last weekend’s game against Ransomes was postponed. This week the lads travel to bottom of the table, Witnesham Wasps.
UNDER 15’s The boys travelled to bottom of the table Debenham Leisure Centre and were shocked to go a goal behind. They did eventually rally and scored twice to take all three points in a game they should have won quite easily. To keep their place at the top of the table they will have to be at their best as this week they travel to second placed Sproughton Youth.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls match against Cornard Dynamo’s was postponed due to a lack of available players. This weekend they are away at Woodbridge Town.
UNDER 16’s With five players unavailable, (two playing for Suffolk Schools), the visitors to Langley Avenue were the marvellously named Locomotive Laxfield. In the first half the lads dominated the game, particularly in midfield area with Jamal Wiggins playing at his best. However it is goals that count and despite all the possession, they were having trouble in the final third of the pitch. Eventually their opportunity came when Declan Harvey pounced on a poor clearance and he finished well to give the seasiders the lead. In the remaining minutes of the half the lads were camped in the Laxfield half and when Jordan Warne fired in for the third game in a row the game looked to be won. The second half was played in a similar fashion with the seasiders having all the possession but again unable to finish off some great moves. Late on in the game Laxfield grabbed a consolation goal after a scramble following a corner. This week the lads are at home against Brantham Athletic.
UNDER 18’s The league leading Saturday side extended their unbeaten run to nine matches with a 4-2 win over third placed Holbrook Hornets. This week the lads entertain Campsea Ash Rangers.
The Sunday lads had a free week. This Sunday afternoon they are at home to Scole Lads.

UNDER 8’s The team had no match last week. Their next opponents are Woodbridge Town.
UNDER 9’s Last week they were at home to Sizewell and Knodishall, unfortunately I do not have the details of their match at the moment. This week they play local rivals Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 10’s Last week the boys had a week off. This week they are away at Witnesham Wasps.
UNDER 11’s The lads match last week against Chantry Grasshoppers was postponed due to the weather. This weekend they are at home to Felixstowe Hawks.
UNDER 12’s The lads match last week against Holbrook Hornets was postponed due to the weather. This coming weekend they are away at Sizewell & Knodishall.
UNDER 13’s Last weekend the lads were away from home against a Trimley Red Devils side who have won all eight of their league matches this season, and who last weekend won 14-3 in the cup. Having held the home side at bay for the bulk of the half, the boys were disappointed when in the final couple of minutes an own goal and chance taken on the break left them two down at half time. A third goal followed from a great strike by Trimley and the game looked over, but the boys continued to battle and they got their reward when Tony Hitchin lobbed the keeper to make it 1-3. When Tony was then upended in the box, the boys had a chance to pile on the pressure, but the keeper made a terrific save from the resulting penalty to keep the two goal advantage. In the last minutes Trimley added a fourth to seal the win and keep their 100% record. This week the lads entertain Sproughton Youth in the first of six consecutive home matches.
UNDER 14’s The lads had no match last week. This weekend’s game against Ransomes has been postponed.
UNDER 15’s Last week the league leading under 15’s were at home to one from bottom side Trinity Rangers. The game got off to the best possible start with a goal in the third minute from top scorer Liam King, and then midway through the half Ashley Lacey made it two with his first for the club. With the half coming to a close, Liam scored his second of the day to give the lads a comfortable lead. The second half continued with the seasiders dominating proceedings and it was not long before the goals started going in again. Liam King completed his hat-trick with ten minutes played, before substitute Luke Fountain added the fifth. Toby Spink then scored twice to make it seven before Luke slotted home a penalty at the death. During this time, although I am not completely sure when, the Rangers did grab a consolation goal. Final score Seasiders 8 Trinity 1. This week the lads are hoping for a repeat performance when they are away at bottom side Debenham. (The lads now top the table by three points and have scored eight goals against three different opponents this season).
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls had no match last week and none this weekend.
UNDER 16’s No match for the 16’s last weekend, this week the team are at home to Locomotive Laxfield.
UNDER 18’s The team’s away match at Kirton Kestrels was a victim of the weather last weekend. This Saturday they are at home to Holbrook Hornets.
The Sunday team’s match against Trimley was a victim of the weather. The lads now have a free week.

Saturday 22nd November 2008
UNDER 8’s The youngest of our seasiders played at home in the first of what will be many games against local rivals Trimley Red Devils. The ‘A’s took an early lead through Hayden Craft, his 11th in as many games this season, and they were unlucky to go in all square at the interval when the visitors scrambled the ball home just before the break. The second half however was a different affair with Trimley in complete control; two goals followed which gave them the 3-1 win they deserved. The first half of the ‘B’ game was very tight with neither side looking like they would take the lead and the teams went in to the second half with the scores 0-0. Almost immediately after the interval the boys went ahead through Josh Butcher. Unfortunately the lead lasted only a couple of minutes before the visitors struck back after a defensive mix up. Another goal from Josh, (he has now scored 16 times this season and the only match that the ‘B’s have lost this year was a match when he did not score!), made the score 2-1 and a fine save from Harrison Challis kept the lead intact going into the final minutes. A scrappy late goal, with Charlie Smith getting the last touch ensured a good 3-1 win for the team. The lads have no match this week.
UNDER 9’s After a two week break the nines were back in action away at Shotley Rangers. The ‘A’s recorded their fourth consecutive league win with a comprehensive 7-0 demolition of the home side. Already with two hat-tricks this season, top scorer Luke Barnes went one better hitting four; also on the score sheet were Lewis Hutchings and Matthew Tetley. Keeper Adam Hart and his defenders kept the opposition at bay for their second clean sheet in the league. The ‘B’ side could not quite emulate their compatriots but did manage a rousing 5-1 victory. Scoring their first goals for the club were Raven Cowan, James Lindsay and Emily Smout, Harry Mitchell scored his third of the campaign and the ‘B’s top scorer Kian Smith-Howell made it 11 for him in just six league games. This week they are at home to Sizewell and Knodishall.
UNDER 10’s The boys returned to league action after a six week break during which time they have been playing their group cup matches. The teams made the short trip through Walton to play local rivals Trimley Red Devils. In the ‘A’ game it was close right up until just before the interval when Aaron Bull’s pass found Charlie Driver who smashed the ball home from the edge of the penalty area. Pushing on after the break, Charlie made it 2-0 and just before full time Aaron once again turned provider this time for Oliver Ruffles to seal the win 3-0 and keep up their title hopes. The ‘B’s again came desperately close to breaking their duck with a 2-3 score line. Having taken the early lead through Callum Burrows they were pegged back again just before half time. Callum repeated his feat early in the second period only for the lads to let it slip again. The killer blow came almost on the final whistle as Trimley scored the winner and for the third time this season the lads had lost by the odd goal. This week the boys have a week off.
UNDER 11’s At home to Wickham Market the ‘A’s kept up their unbeaten league record with a comfortable 5-0 win. Two strikes by Matthew Harrold got the lads off to a great start and when he turned provider for Jordan Dalziel, the lads had a three-nil lead at the break. The two players linked up again after the interval for Jordan’s second to make it 4-0. Matthew was very unlucky not to get his hat-trick when a defender got a touch just before him for an own goal to leave the final score at 5-0 and the lads just a point behind league leaders, Felixstowe Hawks. With the Hawks ‘B’ team not playing this week our lads took the opportunity to leapfrog them to the top of the table with 3-1 victory. Top scorer Nathaniel Adams got the scoring underway with his 17th goal in just 11 matches this season. After the interval Cameron Dwelley scored the second, headed home from a Charlie Wilson corner. A few minutes later another corner from Charlie resulted in a goalmouth scramble, this time it was Daniel French who forced the ball home to make it 3-0. Wickham did manage a late consolation goal to deny the lads a clean sheet, but the points were in the bag. This week the lads travel to Chantry Grasshoppers.
UNDER 12’s The boys moved to within a point of the league leaders with an away win over Whitton United. With only 12 available players the team changed its formation to 4-5-1 for the first time and it seemed to work from the start. A first half brace from Matthew Bury set them up well and they dominated the rest of the match. Matthew completed his hat-trick in the second period and the three points were secured. The match also saw Liam Lacy become the fourth player in the under 12’s squad to play his 100th match for the club. This week the team are at home to Holbrook Hornets.
UNDER 13’s The lads travelled to Brantham Athletic to play a side they have never beaten in six years of trying and with the home side nine points and five places above them it was going to be tough day. In the blustery conditions the first half was an even affair but the seasiders gained the advantage with a strike from Tony Hitchin and they held on to the lead until the break. With the wind at their backs in the second half the lads continued to press forward and were rewarded when Reece Calver’s pass found Samuel Barber who slotted the ball home for his first of the season. A third goal followed courtesy of a fantastic strike from Ricco Dimascio and the three points were in the bag. The 3-0 win was the first clean sheet of the season for Nathan Bowdidge and his defence and the win sees the lads lifted out of the relegation positions and will give them some extra confidence going into next week’s game against the league leaders, Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 14’s Due to ongoing computer problems we do not have a report for the under 14’s, however I can report that they drew 4-4 at home to Brantham Athletic. The lads have no match this week.
UNDER 15’s After last week’s exit from the cup, the lads were looking to continue their good run in the league with a visit to Sutton Heath. Two goals in the space of two minutes midway through the half set the seasiders on their way, Liam King scoring his 15th of the season and recent signing Lewis Maddison with his first for the club. To their credit Sutton continued to battle and their reward was three goals in thirteen minutes either side of the half time interval to take the surprise lead. Our lads then had to dig deep to fight their way back into a match that they thought they had already won. With ten minutes left on the clock they were still behind but two late strikes from Luke Fountain and Michael Peters rescued the match and the three points. The team are now sitting at the top of the table with a lead on goal difference over Sproughton Youth. This week the 15’s are at home to Trinity Rangers.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls match last week was cancelled due to the weather, this week they are at home to Cornard Dynamos.
UNDER 16’s The visitors to Langley this week were second placed Claydon Youth and with our lads in fourth just a point behind, the scene was set for a close match. For once the game lived up to its billing and some good football was played from the outset. It was end to end stuff with Matthew Mackenzie, Matthew Soper and George McCallum all being denied by the opposing keeper and Ben Hall making some important saves in our goal. The deadlock was finally broken when Jamal Wiggins slipped the ball through to Matthew Mackenzie. Matthew played the ball square across the penalty area for the advancing Jordan Warne who planted the ball into the corner of the net to give the lads the lead at the interval. The second half was played in a similar vein with both sides playing some good football and both making chances. Jordan nearly hit a second when his free kick thundered onto the bar with the Claydon keeper stranded and Matthew Mackenzie had a terrific volley tipped just over the bar. Try as they might the visitors could not force the equaliser despite some great pressure in the last ten minutes. The win sees the seasiders move up to second place in the table. This week the team have no match.
UNDER 18’s The Saturday team are still unbeaten and at the top of the table after a crushing 9-2 win over Bildeston Rangers which included a four goal haul for striker Jordan Matthews. This week the team are away at Kirton Kestrels.
The Sunday teams match against Scole Lads was a victim of the weather. This week the lads are at home to Trimley Red Devils.

Saturday 15th November 2008
UNDER 8’s With no league match this week the lads played a friendly at home against Whitton United. The ‘A’s having drawn their earlier league match against Whitton started well and at half time were 1-0 up with a goal from a terrific free kick by Hayden Craft, on the score sheet for the third game running. The second half saw the lads really take control and five more goals followed. Isaac Scott scored one, Daniel Poxon hit two and defender Thomas Lygo scored twice. Thomas together with fellow defender Tom Bury and keeper Joby Howe kept their fourth clean sheet of the year. The ‘B’s, having lost just one of their previous nine matches this season, continued their good form with a 3-0 win. A great pass from Louis Donovan-Perry set up Charlie Smith for his third goal of the year to give the lads a 1-0 lead at the interval. Coming off the bench, top scorer Josh Butcher scored the next, his 14th in just 10 matches. Louis Stanbridge sealed the win with his goal late on and to make a good day even better Harrison Challis saved a late penalty to keep his fifth clean sheet in nine matches. This week the lads entertain local rivals Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 9’s No Match for the 9’s last week. This weekend the teams travel to Shotley Rangers.
UNDER 10’s No Match for the 10’s last week. This week they make the short away trip to play Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 11’s The ‘B’s were at home to Kirton in the cup and won 5-2. The result gives them a ¼ final away at AFC Kesgrave. This week they are at home to Wickham Market.
UNDER 12’s No Match for the 12’s last week. This week the lads are away at Whitton United.
UNDER 13’s No Match for the 13’s last week. This week the team are away at Brantham Athletic.
UNDER 14’s The lads were away from home at Division Two side Sporting 87 for their 2nd round cup match. The lads made an instant impact and within a minute were 1-0 ahead with a goal from Kieran Royal who was following on from his hat-trick in the 1st round match. Unfortunately the boys then relaxed thinking the game was going to be easy and Sporting hit back with three goals to lead at the break 3-1. The second half saw Luke Turner reduce the deficit and when Elliot Deakin scored his first goal for the team, the scores were level. With no further scores the game went into extra time and once more the home side took the lead. With time running out, Sam Cole levelled once more for the seasiders and penalties loomed. Jordan Youngs, Sam Cole and Elliot Deakin scored the first three penalties and the tie looked won but the next two were missed and Sporting were back in the tie. In sudden death, Ollie Wildig scored the first and when keeper George Burch saved the next the lads were through. They now have a ¼ final match at home to 1st division Debenham LC. This week the lads play at home against Brantham Athletic.
UNDER 15’s Also in cup action this week, the lads were at home to 1st division side Ipswich Royals. In a very even match the seasiders were unfortunate to find themselves 3-1 behind, Liam King having scored the opener for our lads, but the Royals strikers were making the most of any opportunity that came their way. With ten minutes left to play Liam slotted home his second of the match and 14th of the season and for the remaining time the seasiders were camped in the opposition half. The Royals keeper made two terrific saves and the lads hit the woodwork twice in their efforts to force the game into extra time but it was not to be, final score 2-3. The lads now go into the plate competition where they will meet the winners of either Debenham or Woolpit. This week the 15’s are at home to second placed Claydon Youth.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS Away at Witnesham Wasps the girls with only the minimum nine players fought hard but lost out to the odd goal in three. Rebecca Cope was on target for the second game running. Next Sunday the girls travel to Bury Town.
UNDER 16’s The lads progressed into the ¼ finals of the league cup with a win over bottom of the league side Whitton United. A poor performance from the seasiders meant that the score at 90 minutes was still 0-0 and it took until the second half of extra time before Jordan Warne eventually headed home the winner. The lads now have a trip to league leaders Kesgrave Town in the next round in February. This week they return to league action at home to Claydon Youth.
UNDER 18’s
The cup campaign this season has been split into four groups with the winners of
each going into the semi finals. In their 1st group cup match away at
Witnesham Wasps the lads comfortably won 9-0.
No Match for the Sunday team this week.
Roy Kempson.
Saturday 8th November 2008
UNDER 8’s`With no league game the lads played friendlies against Debenham Leisure Centre. In the ‘A’ game it was a tight affair with the scores level at half time 1-1, the seasider’s goal coming from Hayden Craft. The second half saw the home defence of Finn Sheppard and Thomas Lygo solid as a rock, so when Hayden grabbed his second the win was in the bag. Hayden now has 9 in 9 games for the team this season. The ‘B’s romped to a very comfortable 2-0 win with a first goal for the club for Louis Stanbridge and an incredible 13th of the campaign for Josh Butcher. Josh has only failed to score on one occasion this season, in the only match that the ‘B’s have lost. The boys have a free week this weekend.
UNDER 9’s After a long break without a match, the teams were back in action at home to East Bergholt. The ‘A’s continued their great league form with their third consecutive win, Matthew Tetley scored twice for the second game running and Luke Barnes scored the other in the 3-1 win to make it nine for him so far. The ‘B’ team maintained their 100% league record with their fifth win in a row, this time a 7-0 thrashing. Keiron Beckett in goal for the first time this year kept yet another clean sheet for the team, the ‘B’ team have not conceded a league goal since their opening game back in September, they have now scored 27 and let in just one. For the record, Kian Smith-Howell hit his third hat-trick of the season, Daniel Rowe also hit three and Harry Mitchell hit the other. The team have no match this week.
UNDER 10’s The lads travelled away to play Martlesham Youth in the fourth of their group cup matches, and both teams returned with 0-0 draws, quite surprising in under 10’s football. The results mean that both of our teams are in second place in their respective groups. Next up is a trip to local rivals Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 11’s Both teams remain in second place in the league after their trips to Whitton United. The ‘A’s went behind to an early goal before Jordan Dalziel pulled them back level five minutes later only for the home side to take the lead again just before half time. Matthew Harrold then levelled the scores for a second time before Charlie Bance scored directly from a corner to finally give the lads the lead. Unfortunately the lads eased off and within minutes Whitton had scored twice to retake the lead at 4-3. Determined to take something from the match the seasiders dug deep and Jordan grabbed his second and the equaliser, just before the full time whistle. The lads are still unbeaten with three wins and two draws from their five league matches. The ‘B’s made it four wins from five with a 3-1 win. Nathaniel Adams gave the lads a half time lead with his 13th strike of the season. Whitton equalised early in the second period before Nathaniel made it 2-1 after a through ball from Kieran Webster who also set up Alex Smith for his first goal of the season just before full time. With the ‘A’s out of the cup, the ‘B’s take centre stage as they take on local rivals Kirton Kestrels in the second round this week.
UNDER 12’s With no league match to play the lads travelled to Division One side Witnesham Wasps to play a friendly. Having made the majority of the chances in the first period the lads were unlucky not to go in ahead at the break. However a goal from Ben Parker did ensure that the scores remained level. With our lads pushing for the winner in the second half it did allow the more experienced home side to take advantage of the extra space, and they scored twice to record a 3-1 win. The lads have a free week this weekend.
UNDER 13’s
Away at Witnesham Wasps the lads got off to the worst possible start when
they conceded a disputed penalty after just two minutes. From then on, despite
playing some good football things went downhill and at half time they were 4-0
behind. Another goal early in the second period virtually sealed the game for
the home side but George Connor’s strike to bring the score to 5-1 gave
the lads some relief. A late goal left the final score at 6-1 to the Wasps and
the lads having to prepare for a Tesco cup match on Sunday. The match also saw
the 100th appearance for the club by Nathan Gould.
Unfortunately Sunday afternoon did not provide any joy as the lads were beaten
5-0 away at St John’s Youth. This week the lads have no match.
UNDER 14’s Unfortunately we do not have the details of the lad’s home match against Wickham Market, but we can report that they won for the fourth week running by a 3-0 score line. This week the lads are away in the cup against second division side Sporting 87.
UNDER 15’s After some e-mail problems we now have some info on the under 15’s who have made a great start to their season. This week, the lads who are top of the table, entertained 11th placed Woolpit. Four goals from Liam King and two from Luke Fountain, (the lads now both have twelve each in their nine appearances this season), saw the lads to victory with Michael Peters adding another for good measure in their 7-1 win. Next up is a cup match at home to 1st division side Ipswich Royals.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS No details of the girls match this week but we can report that they lost out 4-2 against Copleston SC. This Sunday the girls are away at Witnesham Wasps.
UNDER 16’s The lads travelled to unbeaten and top of the league side Kesgrave Town for what promised to be a terrific match with our lads sitting in third place. The first half was a fantastic performance from the seasiders with quality running all the way through the team. Sadly for all their endeavour and commitment they could not break down the stubborn Kesgrave defence. The second half began and continued in a similar vein with the seasiders pushing forward and Kesgrave holding on but still no score. With just eight minutes left on the clock, a hurried clearance by the home side found their left winger free, he raced forward and his cross was met by the Kestrels striker who made no mistake. The lads were gutted!! In the dying moments a dubious penalty on a very slippery pitch gave the home team a flattering 2-0 win but our lads can take good heart from a great performance. Absent from the team was keeper William Fuller who has just been selected for a six week trial at Ipswich Town, we all wish him well. Next week the lads are away at Whitton United in the 2nd round of the league cup.
UNDER 18’s The Saturday lads travelled to Wickham Market and returned with the three points after a convincing 6-3 win. This week they travel to Witnesham Wasps for the first of their group cup matches.
No Match for the Sunday team this week or next.
Roy Kempson.
Saturday 1st November 2008
UNDER 8’s Without a league fixture, the lads played a friendly match away against a strong Witnesham Wasps side. The ‘A’s had drawn 2-2 in the corresponding league game last month and at half time the match looked to be going the same way with the score at 0-0. However, a man of the match performance from Hayden Craft who hit a second half hat-trick sealed the win. The ‘B’ team having lost out 3-2 in the league match also played well. After a goalless first period, the lads went one down but second half sub Joshua Butcher levelled the scores late on. Man of the match for the ‘B’s was Charlie Boggis with some great defending. The lads now have two free weeks.
UNDER 9’s No match for the teams last week, this week they are at home to East Bergholt.
UNDER 10’s After two weeks without a match the lads were back in action in their group cup matches. The visitors to Dellwood were a Sizewell & Knodishall side that had yet to record a win in league or cup this season. The ‘A’ team set about their match with gusto and dominated from the start. Aaron Bull hit his second hat-trick of the season before being rested, but he made a return in the second half to score two more, Samuel Gilder flicked the ball home spectacularly with his heal and Charlie Driver hit the other in an emphatic 7-1 win. The ‘B’s, whose form has not been great this season put in a terrific performance, defenders Ben Read and Robbie White helped keeper Oliver Rose to the team’s first clean sheet of the year. At the other end of the pitch it was goals all round as Eddie Marshall, James O’Maley and Connor Sorhaindo all scored two each. Callum Burrows and Kieran Brunning grabbed one each and an own goal brought the total to nine. This week the lads travel to Martlesham for another cup match.
UNDER 11’s No match for the teams last week, this week they are away at Whitton United.
UNDER 12’s The top two teams in the division finally met, but with only 11 players to choose from and up against a Martlesham Bombers side with three subs, the lads really had their work cut out. Battling well the boys were still in contention right up until the last five minutes, with the scores at 2-3. Our goals came from Jack Maidment and Jace Smith, and they had a chance to level the score with a late penalty. Unfortunately the kick was missed and the home team grabbed another goal late on. The boys are still in second place just a point behind. Next week the lads have no league game so they are playing a friendly against Witnesham Wasps.
UNDER 13’s No match for the teams last week, this week they are away at Witnesham Wasps
UNDER 14’s Won 7-0 at home to Ipswich Athletic. Next week at home to Wickham Market.
UNDER 15’s Won 4-0 at home to Kirton Kestrels. Next week at home to Woolpit.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS Lost 6-1 away at Stowupland Falcons. Next week away at Copleston.
UNDER 16’s With the seasiders in fourth place and the home side Whitton United sitting at the bottom of the table; it should have been a routine win. However it was a scrappy affair with our lads not playing at their best. Despite this they went in at half time 2-1 ahead with goals from centre half George Monsen, from a corner, and another goal for top scorer Matthew Soper. A few changes at half time made for a better second half and Jordan Warne soon made it 3-1. Whitton did hit back again but when Sam Read headed home the ball as it rebounded off the crossbar from Declan Harvey’s powerful shot the points were secured. Next week the boys will have to be on better form as they travel to unbeaten league leaders, Kesgrave Kestrels. Not included in the team on Saturday were Matthew Mackenzie, George McCallum and William Fuller who had all been picked to represent Suffolk County under 16’s.
UNDER 18’s
No match again for the Saturday side. Next week away at Wickham Market.
The Sunday lads travelled to Trimley Red Devils hoping to avenge their
2-1 defeat last month. The seasiders took an early lead through Tom White
following a pass out wide from Sam Boggis and a cross from Matthew
Kempson. Midway through the half, a lapse in midfield allowed the home side
some space and given time they equalised with a run through the heart of the
seasiders defence. With five minutes to play in the first half Will Reynolds
slid the ball through to Matthew Kempson, who playing in his 200th
game for the club, finished well. Looking as if they would take a lead into
the interval the lads were stunned when on the stroke of half time a long range
shot from Trimley dipped over the keeper and in. The second half was a tight
affair with both teams unable to take their chances and with a draw the most
likely outcome. However a dubious penalty given in the dying seconds, gave
Trimley the chance for the win and they took it. The team now have a two week
break.
Roy Kempson.
Saturday 25th October 2008
UNDER 8’s This week the lads played a friendly against the under 9’s. In the ‘A’ game the 9’s won 2-0 and in the match the 8’s won 2-0 with both goals from Joshua Butcher.
UNDER 9’s As above.
UNDER 10’s No match this week.
UNDER 11’s With no league match this week the lads played friendlies at home against Kirton Kestrels. In the ‘A’ game the visitors took the early lead but before half time, a goal from new signing Jordan Dalziel and one from top scorer and Jack Moss had given the seasider’s the lead. Despite the visitors levelling the scores early in the second half the lads sealed their win when Jack Moss scored from a Charlie Bance corner. In the ‘B’ match the lads also went behind but before the interval had levelled through Curtis Andrews who managed to score directly from a corner. The second half began with Kirton on top and they capitalised scoring four times to lead 5-1. Connor Real reduced the deficit with his strike before Kirton hit back once again. Curtis did grab another goal for the lads before the end and the score finished 3-6. Take out the section of the second half when the lads went to sleep and overall it was a good performance. This week the lads will play away at Wickham Market.

No match for the Saturday lads this week.
The Sunday lads travelled to Bury to take on an Abbeygate Youth team that
had beaten them 4-3 in a closely fought match at Dellwood recently. With the
scorer of two of last week’s goals George Kemp not available, Tom
White came back into the side up front. With the rain stopping just before
kickoff the lads dominated the first half and were unlucky to reach the interval
with no reward. The second half started with the match finely balanced and as
has happened in several matches this year it was the seasider’s who went behind
to the home side’s first real chance of the game. To their credit the lads did
not panic and continued to play their own game and eventually they were
rewarded. With twenty minutes left to play Kyle Clover‘s sixth goal in
seven matches, levelled the scores and ten minutes later Tom White put
the lads ahead. The addition of fresh legs in the second half revitalised the
team and in the dying moments Tom White scored his second to seal the win
3-1.

UNDER 8’s No match for the youngest seasiders this week, because of the half term break their next game is not until the 22nd of November, when they are at home to Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 9’s At home to Whitton United both teams continued their great starts to the season. The ‘A’s made it three wins from four matches with a closely fought 4-3 win. Matthew Tetley hit his first two goals of the season and Samuel Clarkson also got off the mark. Lewis Hutchings scored for the second week running to seal the win in a tight match. The ‘B’s maintained their 100% league record with another good win. Keiron Smith-Howell scored his second hat-trick of the season and Haydon Dadswell scored the other in a 4-0 win. Benjamin Barkes in the seasider’s goal claimed his third clean sheet in four league matches. The lads have now scored 20 goals and conceded just once in their four league games. Their next match is at home to East Bergholt.
UNDER 10’s This week the 10’s played the second of their group cup matches away from home against Woodbridge Town. In the ‘A’ match the boys faced the team they beat 2-1 in last year’s cup semi final. However this time it was one way traffic as the home side dominated the first half to lead 5-0. After the break the lads did rally, and when Charlie Driver was brought down in the box Sam Gilder scored from the spot. Unfortunately, Woodbridge were too strong and scored three more to end the match at 8-1. The ‘B’s fared slightly better, after going behind early on they levelled the scores with Kieran Brunning scoring at the end of a good move involving Harry Stanbridge and Connor Sorhaindo. In the second half debutant Liam Clifton floated in some great corners and the lads had chances to go in front. However, the home side scored a second goal and then sealed the win late on, final score 3-1. After their two week break for half term, the 10’s play their next two group cup games, against Sizewell & Knodishall and Martlesham.
UNDER 11’s This week the lads were away at Framlingham Town. With both teams beginning the day on level points the ‘A’ match was likely to be a close affair and the first half proved to be just that ending 0-0. It was a half time substitute Kieran Webster who finally broke the deadlock with his first for the team. Winning the ball in midfield he passed the ball out wide to Freddie McDade who carried it forward and then played the ball back into the path of Kieran who finished well. Jack Moss then headed in a Charlie Bance corner to double the advantage, before striking a third moments later. The final goal came from another corner from Charlie, William O’Maley came thundering in at the back post to head home and the win was secured. The ‘B’ game saw Cameron Dwelley in between the posts for the first time and he did his utmost to keep the lads in the game. Kyle Smith opened his account for the seasider’s to give the lads an early lead, but the home side scored twice just before half time to go in with the advantage. Despite being camped in the opposition half for most of the second period, the lads could not find the goal they needed to get back into the match and it was Fram who scored the only goal to extend their lead, final score 1-3. After their break the lads travel to Whitton united in the league.
UNDER 12’s The lads were looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season when they travelled away to play the bottom side Sutton Heath. In what should have been a routine win, the lads seemed to think they had the match won before the kick off and the home side gave them a real run for their money. Taking the lead through a strike from Jace Smith the boys were on top, but Sutton hit back just before the interval to level the scores. Matthew Bury, with his first goal of the season restored the lead but once again the home side fought back to equalise. It was only a late strike from top scorer Charlie Kenworthy that secured the three points and hopefully the lads will learn from their experience and not treat the lower teams too lightly in the future. Next up for the 12’s is the visit of third placed Martlesham in two weeks time.
Today’s match saw Ben Parker and Jordan White both hit the 100 appearances mark for the team, both lads have been with the team from the start. Also best wishes go out to defender Daniel Finegan who unfortunately broke his elbow recently at school, we hope he has a swift recovery and is back playing soon.
UNDER 13’s This week the lads met fellow strugglers and local rivals Felixstowe Hawks. With both teams registering just one win each so far, the prospect of three points was a great incentive. Goals from Nathan Gould, George Connor and Tony Hitchin were just what the doctor ordered and although the Hawks pulled one back just before the interval, things were looking good. Five minutes into the second period Tony hit his second and at 4-1 the points looked secure. A Hawks player was then brought down, it appeared to be just outside the box but the referee thought differently and awarded a penalty. It was quickly dispatched and at 4-2 the home side were back in the match. Two goals soon followed and the seasider’s were on the back foot. At this point the game could have gone either way but to their credit the Hawks finished the stronger of the two teams and despite our lads having 75% of the possession, the opposition probably deserved their eventual 6-4 win. With no league match for the next two weeks the lads are playing a friendly against division two side, Hadleigh United.
UNDER 14’s At home to bottom side and local rivals Felixstowe Falcons, the lads were looking to get their league campaign back on track after three defeats. They started well and two goals from Luke Turner and another from Kieran Royal gave them a 3-0 half time lead. To their credit, the Falcons did not give up and they were rewarded with a goal to keep the interest going in the game. The comeback was regretfully for them, short lived as Luke completed his hat-trick, (his second of the season). Jordan Youngs with a glancing header made it five and ensured that he stays ahead of Luke in the race for top scorer. Lee Dawson then rounded off the scoring with the pick of the bunch, when he rifled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box, final score 6-1. Unlike the rest of the junior teams, the 14’s have fixtures on the next two Saturday’s, next week they are away at another local side, Kirton Kestrels.
UNDER 15’s It was a close affair as the lads took on Eye Saints at home. The visitors ran out 4-2 winners and leapfrogged our lads into third place in the table. Unfortunately we do not have any further details of the match. This week the lads are away at league leaders Wickham Market.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls match this week was postponed, their next game is in two weeks time when they entertain Stowupland Falcons.
UNDER 16’s The lads up and down season continued with an away match at Wickham Market. In a scrappy match, it was the home side who took the early lead with a floated in free kick. The seasiders soon responded when the Wickham keeper failed to hold Matthew Soper’s well struck shot, Matthew followed in and scored with ease to level the scores. Things began to look brighter for our lads when Matthew Mackenzie hit a free kick, low and hard in to the corner of the net and soon afterwards Declan Harvey made it 3-1 when he scored from a tight angle. Unfortunately, a goal either side of half time allowed the home side back into the match. With the game in its latter stages, Matthew Mackenzie hit his second and the three points looked to be in the bag, but a rash challenge in the penalty area gave the home side a lifeline which they gratefully took to leave the final score at 4-4. A disappointing result in a match that the lads probably should have won. The lads are still in fourth place in the table but are now six points behind the leaders Kesgrave Town. The lads now have a two week break before they travel to bottom side Whitton United.
Today’s match saw Matthew Mackenzie become the first of our junior players to hit the 200 appearances mark for the club. Matthew has been with us since the club was formed in the 2000/01 season and he has also scored 194 goals. As well as playing for his age group team, Matt has also been a regular in this seasons under 18’s Ridgeons team.
UNDER 18’s The Saturday team made the short trip up the A12 to play a Martlesham Youth side who had won 11-0 last weekend. However, they returned with their unbeaten record still intact after a 2-0 win. The lads remain at the top of the table and now have a two week break before their next fixture.
The Sunday lads
entertained an unbeaten Moreton Hall side who had won comfortably 5-1,
when the teams met last month. A poor first half display saw the lads 3-0 behind
and the prospect of another heavy defeat looked to be on the cards.
Instructions to tighten up the marking and to start playing the simple ball were
given at the interval and the improvement was almost instant. With just four
minutes played, George Kemp opened his account for the team and two
minutes later Kyle Clover thumped home a penalty to give the lads some
encouragement. The next half an hour was end to end stuff but the seasiders
always looked to be the side most likely to get the next goal. It came with
seven minutes left on the watch; Captain Will Reynolds played the ball
back to left back Rob Craig who floated the ball into the box. George
Kemp flicked the ball on and Matthew Kempson running in at the back
post side footed the ball home.
With time running out the coaches would gladly have settled for a point, but the
lads pressed on and with a minute to play George Kemp fired home the
winner to seal a fantastic comeback win. The win was especially pleasing as
three new players were making their debuts, (Jamal Wiggins, Nick Wilding
and Tom Seaman) and of the fourteen players who took part in the match,
eight of the lads are still in the under 16’s age group.

UNDER 9’s No match for the lads this week. Next week they are at home to Whitton United.
UNDER 10’s This week the lads welcomed Framlingham Town to Dellwood Avenue. After their convincing win in their first group cup match last week, the ‘A’ team were hoping to carry their good form into the league. Despite the seasiders making the brighter start and several chances, it was the visitors who ended the first half with a one goal lead. However, early in the second half Aaron Bull was fouled in the penalty area; he picked himself up and slotted home the resultant penalty kick to level the scores. Within five minutes it was 2-1 when Aaron added a second. He then turned provider as his cross came off Bradley Bullock and Charlie Driver knocked the ball in. With time running out, the visitors hit back but it was only a consolation goal and the lads ran out 3-2 winners. Although the ‘B’s also won their cup match against Debenham last week, they are still awaiting their first league points of the season. Framlingham took a two goal lead early on although Kieran Brunning did hit back for the seasiders just before half time. The lads did create some chances in the second period but it was Fram who sealed the win with three more goals. This week the lads are away in the cup against table toppers, Woodbridge Town.
UNDER 11’s This week the lads travelled to Ipswich to play Whitton Sports Centre. The ‘A’s continued their unbeaten league form, but they had to settle for just a point despite being 2-0 ahead at half time. A goal from Jack Moss and a first for the team from Oliver Mackinlay gave the lads the best possible start. Unfortunately, a strong comeback by the home side saw them level the scores in the second half to share the points. The ‘B’s 100% start remains intact after a 4-1 victory. Charlie Wilson opened the scoring early on and William O’Maley hit a long range effort to make it 2-0 at the break. The second half continued in a similar vein with Connor Savage and Charlie Bance doubling the lead. Whitton did manage a late goal but the 4-1 win keeps the boys at the top of the table. Next week the lads travel to Framlingham Town.
UNDER 12’s After their heavy cup exit last week and with no league match to play, the lads took the opportunity of playing a friendly against a newly formed team from Copdock, who are hoping to join the league next season. In an end to end match it was the seasiders who took the early lead through Ben Parker. The home side then levelled the scores before Jace Smith put the lads ahead once again. However, just before the interval, Copdock hit their second to leave the scores even at the break. The goal machine that is Charlie Kenworthy then gave the lads the lead for a third time but it did not last as Copdock struck twice to take the lead 4-3. Despite going behind, the lads battled well and were rewarded when Charlie scored his 9th goal in just 7 matches to bring the scores level. Jordan White provided the finish for what turned out to be the winning goal late on to ensure a confidence boosting victory. With a game in hand over the top side Martlesham, the lads could go top of the table next week when the try to continue their unbeaten run in the league against bottom side Sutton Heath.
UNDER 13’s Travelling to fellow strugglers Kesgrave Kestrels, a close game was always on the cards and so it proved. The seasiders took the lead when a ball through by Reece Calver found Nathan Gould who calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. Despite some end to end play, the rest of the half produced no further goals for either side. The home side got their breakthrough in the second period when the seasiders failed to clear the ball properly from their goal area and five minutes later they were 2-1 ahead and in command of the play. A twenty five yard free-kick from Nathan flew into the top corner to revive the hopes of our lads but with five minutes to go the home side scrambled the ball over the line for their winner, final score 2-3. Next week the lads are away at local side Felixstowe Hawks.
A busy weekend saw the lads playing again on Sunday in their first match in the Tesco cup. With the opposition an under 12’s side from Boxford Rovers, the lads were looking for a confidence boosting win. Early strikes from George Connor and Joe Coniam set the lads on their way and to their credit; the visitors did well to keep the score down to just 2-0. Immediately following the restart some good work by Lewis Stiff set up Joseph Welham for the first of his two goals. The Boxford lads pulled a goal back but eventually the older lads proved too good for their younger opponents and two goals from Tony Hitchin and one for Ricco Dimascio sealed a comfortable 7-1 win. Their next match is an away tie against St Johns Youth.
UNDER 14’s Having won their opening two matches, the lads slumped to their third league defeat on the bounce at home to Tornadoes. A slow start to the game gave the opposition a chance and they took it, within ten minutes they were 2-0 up and worth it. Jerked into action, the seasiders raised their game and a long range effort from Oliver Wilding got them back into the game. Jordan Youngs with his seventh of the season levelled the scores and at half time the lads were back in the game. Unfortunately, after the interval the lads lapsed back into the form that had earlier left them trailing and the visitors soon pressed their advantage and were 4-2 ahead. The final score was a fair reflection of the match as a whole and the lads should feel lucky that the defeat was not by a wider margin. The lads now have a chance to revive their form as their next match is a home game against the bottom side in the table, local side Felixstowe Hawks.
UNDER 15’s With their third win on the trot the lads move up to 3rd in the table. Their 8-2 win over Capel Colts means that they have scored 22 and conceded just 4 in the last three games. Unfortunately at this time I do not have the details of the goal scorers. Next up is a home match against Eye Saints.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS The girls earned their first point of the season with a 3-3 draw at home to Bacton United. A goal for the third week running from Sophie Crane was added to by Abigail Jewkes and Emily Roper. This Sunday the girls are at home to league leaders and unbeaten Brandon Lasses.
UNDER 16’s With three wins in their four matches this season, the lads were full of confidence for their trip to St Johns Youth. In a first half where the seasiders were not at their best, they looked to be holding the opposition at bay until a dubious penalty was awarded and despatched by the home side. After the break, a poorly defended cross was put away by St Johns and the lads were in danger of being on the wrong end of an embarrassing defeat. Eventually the lads did get their act together, but despite a late goal from Matthew Soper it was a case of too little too late. Next week the lads travel away in the league against Wickham Market.
UNDER 18’s The Saturday side remain unbeaten and at the top of the table after their 8-2 win over Witnesham Wasps. Next week they are away at Martlesham Youth.
The Sunday lads had no match last week and are now at home to Moreton Hall.
Roy Kempson.
Saturday 4th October 2008
UNDER 9’s No match for the lads this week or next.
UNDER 10’s In this age group the cup competition is being played in a champion’s league type format with three groups of six teams. In their first matches the lads were at home to Debenham Leisure Centre. The ‘A’ game was action packed from the start with the Seasiders going in at half time 2-0 ahead with goals from Charlie Driver and Oliver Ruffles. The second half started in a similar fashion with a goal from Sam Gilder before Oliver hit his second. Aaron Bull then made it 5-0 and Sam scored twice more for his hat-trick. The visitors did score a consolation goal towards the end but it did not affect the best possible start in the cup for the lads. The ‘B’ match, in comparison was a very quite affair with only five goals. Despite having most of the possession in the first half, it was Debenham who went in at the interval 1-0 ahead. Early in the second period Eddie Marshall scored twice to give the seasiders the lead only for the visitors to equalise soon afterwards. With a draw looking to be the likely result, a corner from Kieran Brunning was knocked in by Connor Sorhaindo to secure the win, final score 3-2. Next up is a visit in the league from Framlingham Town.
UNDER 11’s No report from the 11’s this week, but I can inform you that the ‘A’s lost by 2-1 and the ‘B’s won 2-1 in the cup against Martlesham. Next week they are away at Whitton Sports.
UNDER 12’s Unbeaten so far in the league this season, the lads came up against a strong division one side in the cup when they entertained Woodbridge Town. Unfortunately it was mostly one way traffic as the woodpeckers dominated the game. An own goal by the visitors was the only respite for our lads in a comprehensive 8-1 win for the opposition. The team have no match next week.
UNDER 13’s At home in the cup to second division high fliers Claydon Youth, the boys had their work cut out after their recent poor run of form. Following an evenly matched start to the game, it was the visitors who took the early lead. However, within two minutes the seasiders had equalised when new signing Reece Calver threaded the ball through to Nathan Gould who slotted the ball home. Claydon then hit back just before the break to retake the lead. Like the first half, the second period was also an evenly matched affair and with just fifteen minutes left to play, a 25yard shot from the visitors found its way into the net to seal the win. Final score 1-3. Next week the lads are away at Kesgrave Kestrels.
UNDER 14’s The lads were back to their early season form, with an emphatic cup win away at Claydon Youth. A sloppy start gave the home side an early lead but as the game wore on, the seasiders gradually took control. Kieran Royal scored his first two goals for the club and Lee Dawson added another to give the lads a comfortable half time lead. The second half saw Claydon pull a goal back, but Luke Turner restored the advantage soon afterwards. The best goal was saved until last when Kieran Royal ran from inside his own half and coolly finished to complete his hat-trick. The lads will now be looking forward to the draw for the next round. Next week they are at home to Tornadoes who this week won their cup match at Bacton 13-0.
UNDER 15’s The boys received a bye in the cup this week, next up is a home match against Capel Colts.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS No match for the girls this week. Next week they play at home against Bacton.
UNDER 16’s The lads made the trip to second division Coddenham Youth, for their first round cup match. Dominating from the outset the lads did everything but score but some credit should go to the home side for defending very well under enormous pressure. However, eventually the breakthrough did come. During a goal mouth scramble, Ben Hall’s shot was blocked by a defender, but in trying to clear the ball he hooked it back into his own net. The second half saw the lads extend their advantage, first debutant George Monsen struck home after a George McCallum corner, then Liam Butcher’s corner went directly into the net to make it 3-0. Ben Hall then fired home the fourth to round off a great team performance. Next week the lads travel away in the league against St John’s.
UNDER 18’s No match for the Saturday side this week. Next week they are away at bottom side Witnesham Wasps.
The Sunday team played hosts to local rivals Trimley Red Devils. Despite dominating possession in the first half the boys could not find a way past the Trimley keeper who was in fine form. Immediately after the half time restart, a speculative shot from outside the box dipped over the Seasider’s keeper and gave the visitors the lead, a similar effort ten minutes later saw them double their advantage. A few changes in personnel saw the home side revitalised and they continued to make chances but they were denied time and time again by the visiting keeper. Sam Read pounced on to a loose ball with five minutes to play and managed to poke it home to give Trimley a few nervous minutes at the end , but they held on for the three points. The lads now have a free weekend.
Roy Kempson.
Saturday 27th September 2008
UNDER 9’s After their week off, the lads and lass returned to action against Capel Colts. A second hat-trick in just three matches for Luke Barnes and a goal from Matthew Mayes were enough to see off the home side in a closely contested ‘A’ match that finished 4-3. The ‘B’ team continued their fantastic start to the season with their third straight win. Kian Smith-Howell’s hat-trick, a brace from Keiron Beckett and first goals for the club from Blake Richardson and Harry Mitchell ensured an emphatic 7-0 victory. The ‘B’ team have now played three, won three, scored sixteen and Benjamin Barkes in goal, has conceded just once. The teams now have a two week break before returning against Whitton United.
UNDER 10’s The lads travelled to Kesgrave Kestrels and both teams had very tight matches. In the ‘A’ game the home side dominated the first half and took a two goal lead with Felixstowe keeper Oliver Rose playing well just to keep the score down. A turnaround in fortunes after the break saw the lads take control early on. After several good chances a Sam Guilder free kick got the visitors back into the match. Unfortunately, Kesgrave hit the seasiders on the break and restored their two goal advantage midway through the half. Receiving the ball from a throw in, Aaron Bull beat two players and slotted the ball home to narrow the deficit, but despite some late pressure, Kesgrave held on to win 3-2. The ‘B’s having lost out 4-2 and 3-2 in their previous games, once again came very close. With both sides attacking from the outset there were plenty of goalmouth incidents throughout the whole match. Just before half time the home side capitalised when they intercepted a pass to hold the lead at the break. It was end to end stuff throughout the second period but neither team were able to bundle the ball over the line and the score remained unchanged. A win for the ‘B’ team must be just around the corner! The cup at this age group is being played in group stages and this week the lads start their campaign against division two side, Debenham Leisure Centre.
UNDER 11’s The lads travelled to Sizewell and Knodishall and returned with the three points in both matches. The ‘A’s made it two wins from two with a resounding win, going in 2-0 up at half time with goals from Matthew Harrold and William O’Maley the lads were in full control. Early in the second half the home side did create a few chances but when the third goal went in from Freddie McDade the game was effectively over. The lads then ran riot and a brace from Jack Moss and one from Charlie Bance sealed a comfortable 6-0 win. Remarkably, the ‘B’s did even better, following their 4-0 win over Trimley in their opening game. A first half hat-trick from goal machine Nathaniel Adams, two from Jake Woodley, one from Cameron Dwelley and a debut strike from new signing Curtis Andrews put the game out of sight. A less frenetic second period saw a couple from Charlie Wilson and a rare strike from Connor Real to leave the final score at 10-0. This week the lads play their 1st round cup match against division one side Martlesham.
UNDER 12’s The lads extended their unbeaten start to the season to four matches with a win over local rivals Trimley Red Devils. Jace Smith gave the seasiders an early lead before Trimley levelled, Jordan White and then Jace for his second then gave the lads a two goal cushion. A Trimley own goal then made it 4-1 before Ben Parker made it five at the interval. Haydon Mitton then extended the lead after the break, but the home side clawed one back to make the score 6-2. Charlie Kenworthy then rounded off the scoring with his seventh of the season in just five matches. Final score 7-2, this week the lads are at home in the cup to division one side, Woodbridge Town.
UNDER 13’s At home to Woodbridge Town the lads suffered their second heavy defeat in a row. Despite being 6-0 down at half time, the boys did play better in the second half and conceded just twice more. This week they are at home in the cup to second division league leaders, Claydon Sports.
UNDER 14’s After their disappointing loss last week, the boys faced the prospect of a trip to play the unbeaten league leaders Bramford United. In their previous three matches, the home side had scored 23 times and conceded just twice, so the boys knew they were in for a tough match. A good start with tight marking and tackling meant that at the interval the scores were level. The seasiders were unlucky not to have gone in ahead when Sam Cole hit the post late on. Midway through the second half, Kieran Royal was through on goal but he was denied when his shot also hit the post and went wide. With the boys wearing bibs due to a mix up in colours, the heat began to take its toll and with a couple of lads picking up injuries, the seasiders were reduced to 10 players late on. Trying as hard as they could, the lads could not hold off a classy Bramford side who late on, stole two goals and the three points. A penalty awarded at the death was well struck by Sam Cole, but you’ve guessed it, he was denied by the post. Next up is a visit to mid table Claydon Sports, in the 1st round of the cup.
UNDER 15’s The lads travelled to Ipswich Hawks who were above them in the table, and returned with the three points after a comfortable 6-1 win. No details at this moment of the goal scorers. The lads have a bye in the first round of the cup being played this week and they return to action against Capel Colts next week.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS No match for the girls this week or next.
UNDER 16’s After their poor showing against Kesgrave last week, the lads bounced back with a terrific win over unbeaten, league leaders, Ransomes. Will Fuller in the seasider’s goal was a virtual spectator in the first half, which was dominated by the lads who put in a great team performance. Midway through the half Matt Mackenzie’s effort on goal bounced back off of the keeper’s knees and Matt Soper calmly slotted the ball home for the opener. The match continued in the same vein during the rest of the half and the visitors were fortunate to go in at the break just one behind. Jordan Warne, playing against the team he played for last season, doubled the lead in the second period. His initial shot was well saved, but he stabbed home the rebound to seal the three points. A fantastic performance from the whole team and another clean sheet from the defence. This week’s opponents are second division Coddenham Athletic in the cup; I doubt they are particularly looking forward to the tie.
UNDER 18’s The Saturday side are still unbeaten and now top the table after a terrific 12-0 win over Claydon Sports. Amongst the scorers were Jordan Matthews with four and Tom White with three. The lads now have a week off.
The Sunday team entertained fellow 1st year side Abbeygate Youth. Despite playing poorly in the first half they went in at the interval at 2-2 with goals from Nick Duff and Kyle Clover. Strangely, a better 2nd half performance where they created several chances went against them and the match ended 3-4, the third seasider’s goal also coming from Kyle. The match also saw the debuts for two more of the under 16’s, Sam Read and Louis Johnston. Next week the lads are at home to Trimley Red Devils.
Roy Kempson.
Saturday 20th September 2008
UNDER 9’s No report from the 9’s this week. This week they travel to Capel Colts.
UNDER 10’s The lads travelled to Ipswich to play promoted side Chantry Grasshoppers and in the ‘A’ match they dominated from the outset. Several chances were made but it was not until late in the half that the goals came. Aaron Bull grabbed the first with a long range effort but with their only chance of the match Chantry equalised from a corner. After the break, the seasiders lead was re-established when a corner by Charlie Driver was tuned in by Sam Gilder. Another goal late on by Aaron Bull sealed the comfortable win 3-1.
The ‘B’ game was also action packed with the Grasshoppers taking an early lead. A cross from Connor Sorhaindo was finished well for his first of the season by James O’Maley to level the scores before the interval. Chantry then hit the bar and from the resultant corner, a goalmouth scramble ensued and Harry Webster in the seasider’s goal made a great save to deny the home side. A gift of an own goal gave our lads the lead early in the second half but two scored in the correct end meant that eventually the home side ran out 3-2 winners. This week the lads are away at Kesgrave Kestrels.
UNDER 11’s No match for the 11’s this week. Next week they are at home to Sizewell and Knodishall.
UNDER 12’s With both sides unbeaten before the start of play it was always likely to be a close match as the boys entertained Ipswich Athletic. With both first and second choice keepers unavailable for the match, it fell to Jace Smith on his 100th appearance for the club, to stand in between the posts. A goal from Lewis Chaplin and a brace from Charlie Kensworthy gave the seasiders a half time advantage, but at 3-2 the visitors were definitely not out of the match. The second period saw even more goalmouth action for both teams as Lewis scored his second early on. Further strikes from Jordan White and Ben Parker made it an incredible 23 goals in their first four games this year. Unfortunately, the visitors were also up to the task and four more in reply left the final score all square at six each. The result leaves the boys in second place in the table, just behind Martlesham on goal difference. Next week the lads make the short trip to play local rivals Trimley Red Devils.
UNDER 13’s On the back of their good win over Kirton last week, the lads travelled out to Sutton Heath. Unfortunately it was not their day and within a minute they were a goal down. A second soon followed, and although they had a couple of chances to get back into the match at 2-0, the onslaught continued by the home side and the lads were really never in the match. The final score ended at 6-0 and the lads now face the prospect of a visit next week from Woodbridge Town.
UNDER 14’s At home to Whitton United the lads lost out 4-1, no details of the scorer for the seasiders at this time. This week the lads are away at league leaders Bramford United.
UNDER 15’s Away from home against Thorndon Vipers the lads won convincingly by 8-1, no details at this time. This week they travel to Ipswich Hawks.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS After their difficult opening match last week, things did not improve a great deal as the girls faced last season’s runners up Woodbridge Town. A single goal for Sophie Crane was the only highlight in a 9-1 defeat. The girls now have a two week break before they entertain Bacton.
UNDER 16’s The visitors Kesgrave Kestrels started the match with a plan, and by closing down and hassling the seasiders they managed to stifle the home side’s normal free flowing style of play. They were rewarded early on when a keeper/defender mix up allowed their striker in to score. However, a good spell midway through the half brought the seasiders back into the match with two goals in as many minutes from Matthew Mackenzie and Matthew Soper. Unfortunately, a break down the right wing by Kesgrave resulted in three defenders all coming across to challenge for the ball, this left their striker free in the middle of the box to tap in the resultant cross, 2-2. The second half was a tight affair and when the Kestrels keeper was sent off for a foul outside the penalty area when Ben Hall was clean through, things looked to be turning in favour of our lads. The ten men dug deep and try as they might then seasiders could not break them down and in the dying moments Kesgrave hit them on the break for the winner. Final score 2-3. This week the lads are at home to the league leaders Ransomes.
UNDER 18’s The Saturday side remain unbeaten and share top spot in the league with Holbrook and Martlesham after a 2-0 victory away at Whitton United. This week the lads are at home to Claydon Youth.
The new Sunday team recorded their first win of the campaign away at Walsham Le Willows. With only ten players available, they came back from 2-0 down with an excellent second half performance. Two goals from Nick Duff and a late penalty confidently slotted home by Kyle Clover lifts the lads off the bottom of the table and will encourage them for the matches ahead. Next up is a home match against Abbeygate Youth.

UNDER 9’s
This week the 9’s entertained Holbrook Hornets at Dellwood Avenue. In the
‘A’ match they lost out by the odd goal in three with Ryan Baldwin
the scorer. The ‘B’s continued the good form from last week with a 3-0
win. Kieran Beckett, Daniel Rowe and Kian Smith-Howell were the
scorers.
The team now have a free week in their fixtures.
UNDER 10’s Having lost out in their first league matches last weekend, the boys played host to recently promoted St Johns. The ‘A’s started well with a goal from the penalty spot by Sam Gilder, when Aaron Bull was brought down in the box. Dominating the first period, the lads went in at half time two up courtesy of another strike from Sam. Fighting back after the interval, the visitors pulled a goal back and Oliver Rose in the seasiders’ goal needed to be at his best to prevent the equaliser. Late on, Aaron Bull made the game safe with an individual run and a shot into the top corner of the goal. Final score, 3-1.
The ‘B’ match was a very close affair in
the first half. Harry Stanbridge and Harley Barkes had chances
early on but it was the visitors who took the lead. Minutes later, Connor
Sorhaindo headed the ball home from a corner to level the scores. Once again
St Johns fought back to take the lead before Ben Read hit a screamer of a
shot to even things up at the interval. Unfortunately, the second half saw the
visitors take control of the match and two unanswered goals secured them a 2-4
win.
Next up for the lads is a visit to another promoted side, Chantry Grasshoppers.
UNDER 11’s No match for the 11’s this week or next.
UNDER 12’s The lads now sit at the top of the table after a 3-2 away win at Saxmundham Sports. A close first half ended with the score at 1-1 with Ben Parker on target for the seasiders. A goal from Tom Morrissey and a first for the club from new signing Lewis Chaplin were enough to secure the win. Next week the lads are at home to second placed and also unbeaten Ipswich Athletic.
UNDER 13’s
After their disappointing start last week the boys were at home to local rivals
Kirton Kestrels. Despite dominating the first half the lads were unable
to capitalise on their advantage with a goal. However, a single mistake by the
seasiders let in the visitors who made the most of their chance to take the
lead. Three changes at half time gave the team more width and although they
created more chances, the visiting keeper was on fine form to deny them on
several occasions. It appeared as though the points were slipping away, until a
five minute spell saw Nathan Gould score twice no less than the lads
deserved. A goal-line clearance in the dying moments by Liam Butler
ensured that the team took the three points.
This week the boys travel to Sutton Heath.
UNDER 14’s
Despite scoring seven goals for the second week running, the lads are in third
place in the table on goal difference. Travelling to Debenham the lads
made a great start with goals from Jordan Youngs and Luke Turner.
However, a sloppy period of play let the home side back into the match and at
half time the score was 2-1 in favour of the seasiders. A change of formation
after the interval seemed to do the trick on the very small pitch and with more
space to play the goals soon followed. Luke quickly scored twice for his
hat-trick and with the score at 4-1 the points were in the bag. Jordan
then scored his second with a header from a corner and then turned provider as
his his cross was headed home by Ben Hunt. Lee Dawson was then
brought down in the box; he then dusted himself down and fired the ball home to
finish the scoring 7-1.
Next up is a visit from Whitton United.
UNDER 15’s No report from the 15’s this week but I can report that they travelled to Locomotive Laxfield and were beaten 3-1. This week the lads travel to Thorndon Vipers.
UNDER 15’s GIRLS
The girls opened their league campaign with a trip to last season’s third placed
team, Cornard Dynamos. Unfortunately, it was not the start they hoped for
as they were soundly beaten 12-1. The only bright spot was a goal from Sophie
Crane.
Next up is a visit from last year’s runners up, Woodbridge Town.
UNDER 16’s No match this week for the 16’s, next Saturday they play host to Kesgrave Kestrels.

Saturday 6th September 2008
UNDER 9’s This year there are three divisions in the under 9’s section, Div 1, Div 2 and a friendlies division, and it is the latter that our lads will be playing in this season. Nine teams have chosen to play in the friendly division and although they will play competitive matches, no results or league tables will be published.
Our lads travelled out to Wickham Market for the first of their games and the home side were probably left thinking that there was nothing friendly about the match. The ‘A’s demolished the opposition 8-0 with Luke Barnes scoring a hat-trick and Kieran Bowdidge and Haydon Dadswell scoring one each. The other three goals came courtesy of Matthew Mayes who was making his debut for the seasiders. Adam Hart in goal together with his defence kept his first clean sheet of the campaign.
The ‘B’
match continued where the others left off with a convincing 6-1 win. Incredibly
all six were scored by man of the match, Daniel Rowe who last
season managed just 3 in 16 matches.
This week the lads are at home to Holbrook Hornets.
UNDER 10’s The lads started this year’s fixtures with a tough away match against last season’s division one champions Woodbridge Town. In the ‘A’ game, a cross come shot, and a well taken penalty left the seasiders 2-0 down at the interval. Despite continuing to battle hard, the lads could not keep a very good Woodpeckers side at bay and the match finished 4-0 to the home side.
In the ‘B’ game, the lads also gave their best
and although he conceded six goals, Harry Webster in the seasider’s goal
put in a very good performance. The final score ended 6-1 with an own goal by
Woodbridge our only consolation.
This Saturday the lads are at home to newly promoted, St Johns.
UNDER 11’s With 30 clubs now fielding teams in this age group, this year’s set up is div one, and then div’s two, east and west. Our lads will compete in div two east this year.
The first fixture of the season saw the lads at Dellwood Avenue to play local rivals Trimley Red Devils. The ‘A’ match saw the lads make a dream start with William O’Maley heading home a Jack Moss corner early on. Freddie McDade then beat two players on the left, and crossed the ball in for Matthew Harrold, who finished well. Matthew then added a third before the visitors scored their only goal of the match to leave the half time score 3-1. With fresh legs on in the second half the lads continued to dominate the game and Matthew completed his hat-trick with a superb shot from the edge of the box. Freddie then got on the score sheet himself with a dipping shot also from long range. An excellent start to the campaign 5-1 winners.
The ‘B’ match was a closer affair and it looked as if the teams would go into the interval all square until Cameron Dwelley intercepted the ball and passed it forward to new signing, Jake Woodley. Jake slotted the ball home to give the lads the lead. Second half substitute, Nathaniel Adams wasted no time getting himself on the score sheet when he finished well from a pass by Oliver Mackinlay. Oliver then set up a chance for Charlie Wilson who made it three nil. A combined assist from Oliver and Charlie then set up Nathaniel for his second and the teams fourth to round off a great day for the 11’s. The boys now have a free week.
UNDER 12’s Three divisions made up from 31 teams will contest the 12’s this season, with our lads playing their first season of 11-a-side football in division two.
An opening day derby match at home to Kirton
Kestrels obviously fired the boys up and they now head the league table
after a convincing 7-0 win. Scorers for the seasiders were two each for
Charlie Kensworthy, Ben Parker and Jace Smith with Liam Lacy
grabbing the other. The win came off the back of a 7-4 win over div one side
Claydon, in a pre season friendly. A terrific start to the lad’s 11-a-side
games.
They will hope to continue their good form on Saturday when they travel to
the wonderfully named Saxmundham Sports Scorpions.
UNDER 13’s
Another 31 team age section sees our lads playing
at the top in division one. Following their trip abroad to Holland, the lads
were faced with a tough opening game away against last season’s third placed
team Martlesham Mustangs. The difference between the sides was evident
early on as the home side took their chances and raced to a 3-0 lead at the
interval. With the seasiders not making the most of their chances, Martlesham
continued to pull away to a final score of 7-0. Not the best start for the lads,
but a lesson learnt that you have to make the few chances you get, count.
This week the lads are at home to Kirton Kestrels,
UNDER 14’s
Having finished fourth in division one last
season the lads got off to a great start at home against Witnesham Wasps.
All four of the team’s new signings played well, with three scoring a goal each,
and the other playing a half in goal and keeping a clean sheet. The first of the
new signings Ollie Wilding opened the scoring from 25 yards, this was
soon followed by top scorer, Jordan Youngs first of the day. Jordan
then made it three, before the second ‘new boy’ Daniel Bowditch made it
4-0 at half time. Jordan then took his tally to four with two more
strikes before the other outfield signing Matthew Barratt, struck home a
rebounded shot to finish the scoring at 7-0. With George Burch and the
final new player Daniel Spink keeping half a clean sheet each it was the
best possible start for the team.
Next up is the long trip over to Debenham.
UNDER 15’s
After last season’s relegation, the lads
kicked of their first match in division two at home against Sproughton Youth.
Unfortunately I do not have any info on the match other than the score line an
incredible 6-6 draw.
This Saturday the lads travel to Locomotive Laxfield.
UNDER 16’s Welcoming back midfielder Jordan Warne after a season away at rivals Ransomes, the lads travelled to Brantham Athletic for their opening fixture. A shaky start gave the home side a few chances but the seasiders were settled when midway through the half, Centre Back Sam Boggis powered home a header from a corner. This was quickly followed by a rasping drive from Matthew Mackenzie which the Brantham keeper could only parry into the path of his strike partner Matthew Soper who made no mistake with the rebound. As the second half got underway, a Charles Gosling cross was met perfectly by Matthew Mackenzie whose header thundered into the net. However, the assistant referee deemed him to be offside and the goal did not stand. Having just come on as a substitute, Jamal Wiggins played a free kick out wide to Charles who once more crossed the ball into Matthew. This time the resultant header was allowed and the score was 3-0. The best move of the match came in the dying moments when keeper William Fuller rolled the ball out to full back Nick Wilding; he then passed the ball forward to George Kemp out on the wing who in turn played it inside to Jordan Warne. Jordan’s first time pass found George McCallum who threaded it through to Matt Mackenzie. Matt then passed the ball out wide on the left to Liam Butcher who cut inside and finished off a great move only to have it disallowed for offside. A great shame after such a flowing move. The lads now have a free week before they play host to Kesgrave Kestrels.
UNDER 18’s
The Saturday side began their season with a 5-3
win away at Campsea Ash Rangers, while our newly formed Sunday team went
down 7-0 away at Stowupland.
This week the Saturday lads are at home to Martlesham Youth and the
Sunday team are at home to Moreton Hall.

Under 13's trip to Quintus F C, Kwintshuel, Holland
After losing out to their Dutch counterparts at home in May, the boys made
the trip abroad over the August bank holiday weekend with hopes of gaining
revenge.
The main match between the lads on the Saturday is always the centrepiece of a
weekend that includes a tournament involving several other local Dutch teams.
With the Quintus pitch in its usual perfect condition and a fine day, the stage
was set for a great game. The Seasiders got off to the best possible start when
latching on to a through ball, Nathan Gould lobbed
the ball over the advancing keeper to open the scoring. Unfortunately, the lead
was short lived, as almost immediately from the kick off the home side
equalised. The remainder of the first half was a close run affair, however just
before the interval another great finish from Nathan gave the boys a well
deserved 2-1 lead.
With five changes at half time, to give all the travelling lads a fair run out.
The input of fresh legs quickly paid off and Nathan Gould
completed his hat-trick. Unfortunately it was a case of de ja vue as Quintus
replied almost immediately. Back in the game at 2-3, the home side stepped up
the pace. With the home support urging them on they drew level and then two
goals in quick succession sealed the win with a 5-3 score line.
The following day the lads took part in the tournament against four other local
teams. They gave a good account of themselves and finished in third place,
saving their best team performance for the final game which they won 6-1.
All in all the lads had a great weekend away and they all conducted themselves
in a manner which was a credit to the club.
Roy Kempson.
