Tuesday 18th August 2009  Pre-season friendly
Woodbridge Town Res.  5 - 2   Felixstowe & Walton Res  (2-2)
Seasiders:  Tom Noon, Joe English, Matt Milbourne, Alex Ellwood, Liam Butcher, Josh Smith, Tom Smith, Scott Downing, Ash Phillips, Matt Mackenzie, Luke Hopkins.
Subs: Liam Wainwright, Daniel Andrews, Sam Stopher
.
Following an evenly contested first half Woodbridge controlled the second period with Tom Barton's blistering shot off the underside of the cross bar from twenty yards capping  a fine win in the final minute. Two individual goals from Chris Lay in the opening half hour as he opened up the visiting defence down the left gave the Woodpeckers the lead before Matt Mackenzie pulled a goal back from the penalty spot on 31 minutes. Seven minutes later it was all square as Mackenzie met Hopkins' cross from the right to fire home his second.
Noon saved well to deny Heathcote on the stroke of Half time and was kept busy in the second half with James Heathcote netting the lead for Woodbridge just before the hour mark. Craig Stewart headed the fourth with ten minutes remaining before Barton completed the scoring. Despite the defeat a good performance from Felixstowe with Matt Milbourne leading by example.

Saturday 15th August 2009
Felixstowe & Walton Res  3 - 4  Long Melford Res.  (2-2)
Team: Tom Noon, Joe English, Matt Milbourne, Alex Ellwood, Liam Butcher, Josh Smith, Tom Smith, Scott Downing, Ash Phillips, Matt Mackenzie, Jordan Mathews.
Subs: Liam Wainwright, Ben Woolnough, Luke Hopkin.

Felixstowe started brightly creating early chances and took the lead. A good build up down the right was squared across the area and Ash Phillips drove home at the back post. The lead didn't last long though Long Melford were soon on level terms when their striker found himself clear and he finished with a low shot into the bottom corner. The visitors then took the lead when the Referee awarded a  free kick on the edge of our area which was excellently finished. Still we continued to play the better and deservedly equalised from a good move down the left and when Jordy Mathews picked out Matt Mackenzie with his square pass across the six yard line Matt only had to side foot into the empty net.
HT 2 2

Second half subs were made Liam Wainwright replacing Joe English, Luke Hopkin for Josh Smith and Ben Woolnough for Jordy Mathews.

Felixstowe started the second half on top but Melford took the lead again with a break away goal that was finished in some style from outside the area. There was still plenty of time and no need to panic. We continue to create chances and good moves resulted in both Liam Butcher and Ben Woolnough having one on one chances that their keeper was equal to. We drew level soon after when a low drive from Ben Woolnough from 15yds found the bottom corner. We were still having the majority of the play and was given a penalty which unfortunately was missed. Liam Wainwright also brought a good save from the Melford keeper with good strike from 25 yds but it was Melford who were to win the game with another break away goal.

Wednesday 5th August   Under 18's  0 - 1  Wivenhoe Town
An entertaining open game decided by a single goal from Wivenhoe's Mathaurin 13 minutes from time.

Saturday 1st August Felixstowe & Walton  0 - 1   Grundisburgh
A single goal midway through the first half from Sandilands decided the outcome of the Seasiders final pre-season game before the trip to Norwich United next Saturday.
Other than the goal when Grundisburgh found space on the left to cross for Sandilands to head wide of Rose, neither side posed any serious threat in the first half. Mackenzie had the Seasiders best chance midway through the second period but saw his effort go agonisingly the wrong side of the upright.
Seasiders: Rose, Powell, Crawford, Stace, Inglis, Saker, Barber, Norfolk, Connell, Hampson, Crane. SUBS: McKenzie  20m for Connell, Driver 45m for Crane, Blewer 45m for Stace, Bloomfield 52m for Saker, Triallist 69 minutes for Crawford.

Felixstowe & Walton Res  7 - 0  Grundisburgh Res.
Kevin Witchalls side ran out comfortable winners against the visitors second string taking a 4-0 lead into the half time break and firing in s further three in a second half that ended in torrential rain after starting in bright sunshine.
Seasiders: Adam Dawson,Kristain Haighton,Alex Ellwood,Matt Milbourne,Liam Butcher,Josh Smith, Tom Smith,Scott Downing,Ash Phillips,Ben Woolnough,Jordan Mathews.
Subs: Tom Noon,Rhodri Harston,Joe English,Liam Wainwright,Joe Bloomfield,Luke Hopkin.

Felixstowe Reserves first friendly of the season ended in an emphatic 7 0 win. With only 3 players over the age of 18 in the side it clearly shows the talented youth we have coming through.

Felixstowe started extremely brightly playing good positive football.  It wasn't long before we took the lead when Alex Ellwood fired home from close range from a right sided corner. Ben Woolnough making his Felixstowe debut created the second when he spotted the run of Jordy Mathews and picked him out with a neat slotted pass, Jordy scoring past the advancing keeper. Felixstowe continued to create chances and the Grundisburgh keeper pulled off several good saves. He could do little about Ben Woolnough's low drive from the edge of the area though, making it 3 0.
The fourth came following a good passing interchange between Ash Phillips and Liam Butcher who finished with a low right footed shot into the bottom left hand corner. HT 4.0.

Four changes were made at the start of the second half on came Tom Noon, Luke Hopkin, Rhodri Harston & Joe Bloomfield for Adam Dawson, Josh Smith, Scott Downing & Ben Woolnough.
This didn't affect the shape or quality and Felixstowe continued to have the upper hand. The fifth came from a right sided move between Luke, Jordy & Joe Bloomfield who cleverly dinked it over the advancing keeper. Two more subs were introduced Joe English & Liam Wainwright replacing Tom Smith & Alex Ellwood. Soon after this Rhodri took a whack on his knee and couldn't continue so we were down to 10.
All credit to the boys who never let up and were soon 6-0 up when a brilliant cross in from the right by Joe Bloomfield was met at the back post with a full length horizontal dive and volley by Jordy Mathews. Unfortunately Luke got a nasty gash on his shin & had to leave the pitch so we actually finished the game with 9 men. Still we continued to keep the ball and when Jordan passed to Joe Bloomfield there was only one outcome his second and our seventh.

Overall a great performance and good workout.

Tuesday 28th July  Felixstowe & Walton United  0 - 3  MaldonTown
The Seasiders welcomed Ryman League side Maldon Town to Dellwood Avenue with first half goals from Wright and Seye and a third from Gliddons on the stroke of full time winning the game for the visitors.

Players used: Paul Cudworth (g/k), Blake Saker, Matt Ryland, Kevin Inglis, Matt Stace (c), George Blewer, Adam Hampson, Bradley Barber,  Lee Norfolk, Gavin Crane, Glen Driver, Matt Mackenzie, Jordan Matthews, Myles Powell, Liam Butcher,  Joe Bloomfield.

Saturday 25th July  Felixstowe & Walton United  2 - 4  Bury Town
A good run out for both teams in the warm sunshine, appreciated by a crowd of well over 100, as the Seasiders welcomed old friends Bury Town for the first home game at Dellwood Avenue this season.

Players used: Gary Rose (g/k), Jack Foster (g/k), Liam Butcher, Blake Saker, George Blewer, Myles Powell, Scott Downing, Kevin Inglis (c), Bradley Barber, Adam Hampson, Gavin Crane, Glen Driver, Lee Norfolk, Duane Wright, Matt Mackenzie, Jordan Matthews, Joe Bloomfield.

Two goals for Bury's Andrew Woods pictured  with the opener coming after only six minutes as he used his height to head home a free kick from the right as the visitors started impressively. Crane and Driver went close for the Seasiders but it was the visitors who were the sharper in the first half with Rose down quickly to save from Woods before Scott Chaplin doubled the lead just before the half hour mark.
The home side increased their share of possession through Saker and Inglis with Driver's shot blocked by the Bury defence for a corner, but the game looked over as a contest ten minutes from the interval as Craig Nurse created space on the edge of the area to drive home a powerful shot for Bury's third.

Felixstowe's player Manager Glen Driver showed a flash of the old magic to pull a goal back and keep the game alive three minutes before the break and Butcher forced a save as the Seasiders finished the half strongly.

Felixstowe showed determination after the break with Matthews and Mackenzie linking well in attack to create a number of half chances with a diving header from Mackenzie pictured  held by the Bury keeper. Felixstowe with Norfolk now on the pitch were enjoying a good spell before the visitors increased their lead with Andrew Woods scoring his second with 16 minutes remaining. The Seasiders continued to press forward as Bury took their foot off the gas with the best goal of the game coming from Matt Mackenzie with ten minutes remaining. Jordan Matthews pictured once again passed from the right with Mackenzie taking his time 25 yards out to place his shot over the advanced keeper and into the net.

There was still time for Barber to see his free kick beat the keeper and come back off the far post, but a fair result with Felixstowe showing spirit and determination having gone three down.

Many thanks to Bury Town and their supporters for an entertaining afternoon.

Honey keeps her eyes on the game

Tuesday 21st July Woodbridge Athletic 4-1 Felixstowe & Walton United  (3-0)
Woodbridge Athletic ran out comfortable winners at Rock Barracks with Matt Mackenzie scoring the Seasiders' consolation goal.
Players used
:
Gary Rose (g/k), Jack Foster (g/k), Joe Bloomfield, Matt Ryland, Blake Saker, Kevin Inglis, Myles Powell, Alex Ellwood,  Lee Norfolk (C), Duane Wright, Adam Hampson, Ben Cranfield, George Blewer, Matt Mackenzie, Jordan Matthews, Kristian Haighton, Joe Cook.

A number of changes for the early evening visit to Rock Barracks, a new venue for many of us, for a 6.30 kick off.
The Seasiders started brightly and Hampson had the ball in the Woodbridge net inside five minutes with the flag raised for off-side before two defensive lapses in a minute saw the home side two ahead by the eighth minute. Carl Mcarthy seized on a lose ball and placed his shot into the top left hand corner of the Felixstowe net with  Chris Bawdes tapping home from close range seconds later after the Sesiders once again were guilty of failing to clear their lines effectively. Rose produced a fine low save to prevent the deficit increasing with Bloomfield shooting wide as Felixstowe went in search of a reply.
Woodbridge continued to impress and increased their lead further as the half time whistle approached with Jay Churchyard first to the lose ball, after Rose had blocked the initial shot, to score the third.

Carl Mcarthy scored his second four minutes after the restart placing his shot over the advanced Foster who had taken on goalkeeping duties for the Seasiders at the interval.
Wright headed close from an Inglis corner and Powell shot narrowly wide from distance before Matt Mackenzie scored following a long ball with 26 minutes remaining. Time for a come back, but it proved to be purely a consolation with neither keeper seriously tested before the final whistle and Woodbridge Athletic finished the game deserved winners.

Saturday 18th July Whitton United 0-4 Felixstowe & Walton United
Four goals for new signing Ben Cranfield as the Seasiders kick off their pr-season games in style.
Players used: Gary Rose (g/k), Jack Foster (g/k), Joe Bloomfield, Ben Tawell, Kevin Inglis, Lee Norfolk (C), George Blewer, Blake Saker, Liam Scopes, Duane Wright, Ben Cranfield, Adam Hampson, Ben Connell, Matt Mackenzie, Jordan Matthews, Kristian Haighton.

A windy but sunny afternoon at the King George V Playing Fields for the first view of Seasiders this season. With a number of players on holiday and a number considering their options a flowing passing game was provided by both sides for a good sized crowd.
The experienced Lee Norfolk pulled on the captains arm band for the Seasiders with Gary Rose, previously with Woodbridge Town, between the posts. Ben Tawell opened at left back with Ben Cranfield formerly with Halstead Town leading the line. Others in the line up were familiar to the travelling fans who were pleased to see them in the red & white strip.

Corners for both sides in the opening minutes as the game flowed from end to end without either keeper seriously troubled until the 39th minutes when Ben Cranfield opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Wright had been tripped in the area. Less than a minute later the lead was doubled as Inglis' telling crossing from the right was headed down into the danger area by Saker at the far post for Cranfield to slot home from close range.

Scopes and Saker created time on the ball providing telling passes from midfield to the eager forwards as Driver made second half changes introducing Connell, Matthews and Mackenzie into the attack, Seven minutes after the restart Cranfield completed his hat-trick from the edge of the area before adding his fourth from Connell's pass twenty minutes later.

Many thanks to Whitton United for hosting the game, which proved to be a good run-out for both sides, and their hospitality.
