1 - 7 Felixstowe & Walton
United (0-4)
Six names on the score sheet for the Seasiders in a comprehensive
win against the basement side at the Wellesley with the Bloaters recording a
late consolation goal in time added on at the end of the game. Sad to see the
plight Yarmouth are in but there was a job to be done and an important three
points gained by Felixstowe to maintain a five gap from the bottom as Wivenhoe also gained three points.
An early goal was scored by Felixstowe after Cole was fouled on the edge of the
home area after only 40 seconds by Popham who
received a yellow card. The resulting free kick taken by Garnham fell to Matt Ryland who drilled the ball home from 16
yards. The Bloaters then enjoyed their
best spell of the game gaining three corners in quick succession with Clubb saving low at a post to deny Crux and Barnden went close with a header over the visitors
bar. Felixstowe doubled their lead on 17
minutes when Garnham found Jamie Cole in
space on the right of the home area to volley past Cunnen. Cunnen saved low to
deny Hampson at the expense of a corner as Sheppard and Duzgun
combined to spring defence into attack and on the half-hour Powell and Garnham
opened up the home defence with Miles Powell firing
home the third. Four minutes later Cole’s initial shot was saved by Cunnen, he then blocked Hampson’s
follow up shot but Ben Cranfield
made no mistake firing home the loose ball for the fourth.
At the interval Phillips replaced Cole for the Seasiders with the Bloaters
making a double substitution, Williams and Lee replacing Watkins and Platen.
Lee made an immediate impression with Davis blocking his early shot at the
expense of a corner and Popham shooting over the bar
from distance as they went in search of a reply.
The Seasiders went nap on 66 minutes when Ryland’s touchline cross was turned
home at the near post by Adam Hampson and as
they continued to press for further goals Glenn
Snell came off the bench and headed home the sixth from Phillips’ corner
before Ben Cranfield scored
his second and Felixstowe’s seventh after Hampson had run from deep and
unselfishly passed for Cranfield to convert from
fourteen yards.
Three minutes from time Yarmouth’s Kemp was shown red and with the game going
into time added on the home side were rewarded for their persistence with a
consolation George Barnden
finding space in the Felixstowe area to convert.
A well controlled performance from the Seasiders who
maintained their shape to produce the result needed. Next Saturday the 1st Team are at Home to Wisbech Town,

Stanway Rovers
(0-2)
Stanway deservedly progressed into the
semi-final draw with a comprehensive win on a wet and windy night at the Goldstar ground.
Michael Cheek opened the scoring on 24 minutes heading home at the far
post from Slatter’s free kick and as the home side
looked for a reply Cranfield had a shot blocked and
Sheppard’s header following a corner was saved by Rutherford. On the stroke of
half-time Ben Newson was
first to a loose ball in the Felixstowe area to tap home the second and when
three minutes into the second half Mark Maher forced
the ball home after Cheek’s free kick came back off a post the tie was over.
Crump in the home goal made a good save to deny Maher his second and Rutherford
was down well at a post to save from Hampson but the home side were unable to
test the visiting defence and went out of this this season’s competition.
On Saturday the Seasiders travel to Great
Yarmouth.

Saturday 21st January – Ridgeons
League Premier Division
Wroxham 3 - 3 Felixstowe & Walton United (2-1)
A Ben Garnham hat-trick and a
hard working team performance earned the Seasiders a well
deserved draw at Trafford Park
against top of the table Wroxham.
Taking an early lead and then twice coming from behind, for the final time deep
into second half injury time, the visitors showed great spirit to gain a
valuable point,
Garnham opened the scoring on 12 minutes after strong appeals for a foul
on Rocastle in the visitor’s area were waved away and
the Seasiders broke quickly, the dependable Matthews created the opening with a
positive run and cross from the right which at the second attempt Garnham fired into the net from twelve yards.
The game flowed from end to end with Ryland’s shot held by Howie in the home
goal and Rocastle wide of the visitors
goal following a corner.
Felixstowe were punished for failing to clear their lines on 28 minutes when
the ever dangerous Rocastle
produced a crisp turn and shot to sweep the ball home from Jones’ cross. Howie
held shots from Blake and Ryland before the home side took the lead six minutes
before the break when a speculative shot from Daniels
35 yards out deceived Clubb who got two hands to it but
could only help the ball into the roof of the net. Wroxham
piled forward winning successive corners with Clarke and Ryland clearing off
the line in a desperate goal mouth scramble as the visitors held on for half
time.
Clubb produced saves to deny Gilmore and Durrant after the break with Garnham narrowly wide from
Blake’s cross on the hour. Self and Rocastle went
close before Garnham equalised on 67 minutes
from a magnificent free kick 23 yards out, over the wall and into the net at
the angle of left post and bar with Howie a spectator. A
superb strike which would have beaten any keeper. With four minutes left on the watch Rocastle placed the ball
over the advanced Clubb for his second and looked to
have secured all three points until Hampson was tripped as he burst in the Wroxham area in the fifth minute of time added on. Ben Garnham confidently placed the penalty kick
wide of Howie for his hat-trick and a point, to the cheers of the travelling
fans.
On Tuesday the
Seasiders are at home to Stanway Rovers in the League Cup.

Brantham Athletic U18s (0-1)
Second half goals from Tom Simpson and George Clarke saw the Blues collect all three
points from their trip to the Goldstar Ground after
holding a contentious half time lead.
Home keeper Walden saw a shot slip through his fingers on 34 minutes but
gathered the ball short of the goal line only for an Assistant Referee, not
best placed, belatedly deciding to flag that the ball had gone over the line to
give the visitors the lead. From the kick off Felixstowe attacked and Sowter had the ball in the net for the equaliser, but no
the Referee had awarded Felixstowe a free kick on the edge of the Brantham area. The
Seasiders pressed forward in search of a reply after the break with Galton in
the visitor’s goal blocking Gayton’s shot and then
making a double save to deny first Sowter and then Rayner at the expense of a corner. Mid-way through the half
Simpson was first to a long ball into the
home area to slide the ball past Walden and ten minutes later the best move of
the half saw Dines create space on the left cross to Simpson who passed to Clarke with the big number nine placing the ball
inside the right hand post.

the Seasiders travel to Wivenhoe Town.

Ben Cranfield scored from the penalty spot
within two minutes of coming on as a second half substitute to spark a late
rally for the Seasiders but despite a succession of corners and a flying save
from Beddingfield they could not find the equaliser.
The visitors were ahead after only three minutes with the Grimwood
brothers combining, David saw his shot from the edge of the area come back off Clubb’s right hand post with Lee
forcing the rebound home from six yards. The Blues were making the running with
Bloss and Mann both going close to increasing the
lead but they failed to double their advantage and in reply Blake was narrowly
wide for the home side with a shot on the turn and Brantham
preserved their lead to the interval.
Powell headed narrowly over the Brantham bar from Garnham’s free kick three minutes into the second half as
the Seasiders pressed for a quick reply but were hit by a swift counter on 56
minutes when Ollie Mann fired the ball under
the diving Clubb for Brantham’s
second. A double substitution with just
over 20 minutes remaining saw Cranfield and
Bloomfield take to the field and when Ben Cranfield was tripped in the area the Seasiders
leading scorer picked himself up to confidently place the ball wide of Beddingfield.
After looking confidently in control Brantham had to
defend in depth as the home side raised their game, surviving a strong handball
appeal, conceding a number of corners
and Beddingfield making a good save to see
them over the line and maintain second spot in the League table.

Hadleigh United 1 –
0 Felixstowe & Walton United (1-0)
The first match of 2012 saw the Seasiders make the short journey to the Millfield but they
returned home empty handed with Ben Deacon scoring
the only goal of the game for the home side mid-way through the first half. The
visitors made a bright start with Powell turning Garnham’s
free kick just wide of a post but were left with a hill to climb after being
reduced to ten players on fourteen minutes. Brought down on the edge of the Hadleigh area Matthews showed his frustration and after
squaring up to Cawley was shown the red card. Ten
minutes later the home side took the lead with a well
directed header from Deacon stooping
to steer Cowan’s cross from the right beyond the reach of Clubb’s
right hand. The Seasiders gathered themselves and Heath made a good blocking
save to deny Bloomfield as he ran clear into the Hadleigh
area with half-time approaching.
The visitors did not look a man short in the second period with Heath in the
home goal the busier of the two keepers without being severely tested. Ryland’s free kick was headed into the
danger area by Davis shortly after the restart with Sheppard’s volley blocked
before Garnham fierce strike was deflected wide at the expense of a corner.
Blake went closest to forcing an equaliser as he broke into the home area
before seeing his shot clear Heath’s cross-bar. Cawley
cleared the danger as Cole threatened and tough the ten man performance
deserved reward the home side saw out the game to claim all three points.
With Walsham
and Wivenhoe both winning the Seasiders are now four
points clear of the drop zone. On
Saturday Brantham Athletic visit the Goldstar Ground.
