T.N.T.

T.N.T. in 1965, L- R :Bill Clague; Hugh Murray; John Lawson; Dave Fry;
Tony Renney(seated).

"T.N.T." began in the early 60's as a collection of young Workington schoolfriends & originally consisted of Bill Clague (lead), Dave Fry (rhythm), John Lawson (drums) & Allen Thompson (bass).

When Allen left to join Adel & the Delrons, Bill switched to bass & the lineup was completed by bringing in Tony Renney on lead guitar & Hugh Murray as lead vocalist.

Because of the band being young & still at school,work was confined to West Cumberland.The Towbar, Nethertown was a frequent engagement, supporting the bigger groups that came up from places like Liverpool.

TNT did meet with some success when, in 1965 they entered the "Golden Gate Pop Contest" in Carlisle Market Hall & won the junior section the prize being a voucher for equipment at Dias's music shop (The Invaders won the senior section). Then,in 1966 in a pop group contest at Hall Park Workington,TNT won second prize, beaten by the Invaders.

TNT disbanded in late 66 when they all went away to their various colleges & universities.
