Unfortunately the weekend brought a disappointing end to a very successful season and it was the weather to a large degree that beat us.

On Saturday we played our remaining group game against what I consider to be the best team we played against in this competition, Marine.

Amazingly they were already out having somehow managing to lose their previous group games.

In the first half we were excellent producing some great fast flowing football that had Marine chasing shadows and we deservedly took the lead

Courtesy of a great strike from James Joyce, however, we were unable to capitalise on this and went in only 1-0 up at half-time.

In the second half Marine gradually took control as we struggled to get out of our half as our goal kicks into the wind were not even reaching the half way line and our midfield failed to win the battle for possession against theirs, Marine grabbed a deserved equaliser and took the lead minutes from time.

It was a very good game and probably a draw would have been a fair result. Joe Moorcroft-Moran was outstanding and deserved his MoM award

The semi-final against Belle Vale was a similar story, with the wind dominating proceedings blowing straight down the pitch, and spoilt what should have been a great game.

For various reasons we were struggling for a team, to be fair Belle Vale were missing a couple of players as well, but we began with a squad of 12 and Joe Moorcroft-Moran had to go off at half-time because of an injury he picked up the day before. We played well in spells in the first half and had chances to take the lead but couldn't take them.

We did manage to score early in the second half through a great goal from Joe Edwards and had a great chance to go 2-0 up but again we were unable to take it. After this Belle Vale dominated the game, we conceded two bad goals to lose the match.

We can have now arguments about this one Belle Vale deserved to win.

The disappointing thing is that we were not beaten because they played better football, we were beaten by because they coped with the conditions better than we did and were more determined than we were.

Unfortunately, talent alone is sometimes not enough, you need heart, drive, determination and sadly this was missing.

On a more positive note the progression of the team this season has been excellent I have not come across a team that plays better football than us and we have a great platform to build on

Its been a good summer so far for the U13’s .

We began our campaign by winning the 7-a-side Eastham Rangers Tournament.

We then lost on pens in the semis against an excellent Wilmslow side (they went on to win the final comfortably) in the Frodsham 5-a-sides.

Our last tournament was the Fife Rangers 7-a-side in which we once again progressed to the semi-finals, only to go out on the dreaded ‘golden goal’, again losing to the eventual winners.

Hopefully, everyone involved in the tournaments have enjoyed them and learnt from the experience.

Well done to all of you for playing some excellent football.

As Champions of the MHJFL we were invited into the Liverpool Champions League.

A competition for the various league winners across Merseyside to find the ‘Best of the Best’!

The competition consists of 8 teams, two groups of four with the top two teams from each group going through to the semi-finals.

I am pleased to say that we have qualified for the semis’ with fine wins over Millenium (Tuebrook) 2-0 and Ormskirk West End (Craven Minor) 1-0

Millenium 2 – 0

Whilst not at our best this was a comfortable victory.

Millenium seldom troubled us and goals from James Joyce and Andy Kavanagh secured victory. Joe Edwards was outstanding and deserved his MoM award

Ormskirk West End 1 – 0

A much better performance from the lads and the score line should have been more emphatic.

At times the football was excellent leaving Ormskirk to chase shadows. Even their line admitted we were showing them how to play football.

Some excellent performances, particularly from Joe Moorcroft-Moran and Chris Jackson in defence, with Scott Griffiths just edging out Joe Edwards for the MoM award
