2nd Sept. Moscow 3-1 Off to a good start, it was a close game and could have went either way until we got the 3rd. goal. Ryan is carrying on where he left off last season with 2 goals and is looking very sharp. Our 3 debutants played well, Mark,Richie and Johnny, with a particularly impressive performance in the middle of midfield from Richie Billing(MOM). Liam Taylor scored another one of his 'specials' with that trusty left-peg(or was it a cross!) 9th Sept. Holt FC 5-1 Another good performance from everyone and even though the opposition manager said "we weren't 4 goals better than them", I would argue that we should have scored even more goals. Everyone from 1 to 12 played well. A special mention to "Willo" our stand-in keeper, who is making it difficult for Liam to get back in the team when he gets fit. Goals are like "Liverpool Buses" for Franny; you wait for ages for one and when they do come, they arrive in three's. A great hatrick for him and hopefully, the first of many. Ben scored his first of the season and Ryan netted yet another. The referee gave Carl the MOM. I wouldn't disagree with that, but could easily have given it anyone of the 12. 16th.Sept Northfield 2-3 A strange sort of a game. Even though we were 2-0 up with 10 mins. to go, Northfield had been on top for a lot of the second half. We should have held onto the lead but sloppy defending from the whole team at corners and throw-ins, lost us this game. We will have to learn to man mark or we will be punished again this season. On the positive side, the first half we were in total control and camped most of the half attacking their goal. Goals from Ben and Tom were a just reward for the effort we put into this match, it was just a pity about the last 10 mins.Carl gave another 100% performance. 23rd.Sept Athletico 13-0 A good performance from all 14 of the lads and a "clean sheet" at last. Ryan and Franny were very sharp today and got us off to a good start. Tom and Ben also had a good day on the wings and gave the 2 fullbacks a bit of a torrid time. Mark Waring who didn't put a foot wrong and started a lot of our good moves, was MOM today, I congratulated their team at the end of the game as they were a credit to themselves, they didn't let their heads drop despite not having a manager on the line. Also well done to our lads for carrying on playing in the correct manner and respecting the opposition. 30th.Sep Fitwell 8-2 Comprehensive performance from everyone. Thanks to Tony Saleh for taking the team today as Sean and Peter couldn't make it. Good to see the midfielders scoring a few goals. 7th.Oct Cains 2-2 A good all-round performance from the team today. We were up 2-0 through 2 great goals, the first from a corner with Mark heading it in and the second from a great cross from Franny and Tom made up a lot of ground to put a glancing header into the corner. Unfortunately Cains got a penalty just on the stroke of half-time and then the last kick of the match they managed to get a touch on a free-kick to equalise. The lads should be proud of their performance and we have shown the league that we are more than a match for anyone. 14th.Oct Premier 1-2 What can I say about this performance, not a lot positive. We were never really in the game, even though we went 1-0 up, Premier fully deserved all 3 points. Back to the drawing board and let's hope for a much improved performance next week. 21st.Oct Sandstone 0-4 We didn't really get the ball down and pass it and didn't trouble their goalkeeper at all in the second half. Let's get back to playing the way we were in September and forget about our "black October". 11th.Nov Northfield 1-1 A much improved performance from the team, we rode our luck at times but at least we eventually got the ball down in the second half and passed it through their defence and could have taken all 3 points in the end. Goalkeeper Liam Caveny was awarded MOM by the referee as he kept us in the game, especially in the first half. Ben went on some amazing dribbles(Ronaldhino-esque) in the second half and Mark Waring showed some good touches and his distribution of the ball was excellent. 18th.Nov Premier 2-3 The first half was a joy to watch as the passing from back to front was superb and culminating in 2 great finishes from Man of the Match, Ryan. Everyone played their part and all at least tried to play football. We were a bit unfortunate to go in at half time only leading 2-1. In the second half, our keeper, Liam, got a bad injury, dislocating his shoulder and had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance. I put this down as the reason we lost our shape and in a 10 minute spell gave away 2 goals. We finished strongly and were unlucky not to get something out of the game. 16th.Dec Athletico 11-0 We only had the bare 11 players today, but they all gave their best in what was an awkward game. Poor Athletico, I don't know how they keep going, but to their credit, they do. We were only 2-0 up at half-time after not taking our chances, but in the second half, it was like shooting practise. Well done to all the players, unfortunately it was enough to put us through to the semis, as Northfield drew 2-2 against Premier to put them on 5 points against our 4pts. 6th.Jan Premier 1-4 The squad was down to it's bare bones today and the performance was not what we expect from a Finn Harps team. There were too many long periods of the game where we didn't compete. At only 1-0 down at half-time the game was there to be won if we wanted it, but the second-half display was very poor. Let's put that behind us and hopefully we will see a much stronger performance next week. 27th Jan Sandstone 0-3 A good first half performance, going in 1-0 down, by a bit of clanger from our keeper. Second half, we were outplayed and out-muscled and didn't really deserve anything from the match. Our new centre-half, James Disley had an outstanding debut and couldn't be blamed for any of the goals. 3rd.Feb. Moscow 1-1 A full squad today, 16 players, good to see. We were totally on top for 90% of the match, but unfortunately could not put the ball in the net. Ryan had a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside and numerous chances spurned. Substitutes, Gary and Ben changed the game with Gary scoring a cracking equalizer. 24th.Feb Northfield 1-5 First half was a calamity of errors, as we gave them their first three goals, an OG, a bad pass back and a mix-up at the back. Second half finished 1-1and a much better performance as we started to pass the ball. A good finish from Ben.Let's build on this half next week. 2nd.Mar Athletico 3-0 An excellent performance under the circumstances, with only 10 men and no goalkeeper. Gary Munro scored 2 good goals, created by MOM Ryan and a mazy run from Craig. The 3 at the back also looked solid all day and Richie had a good game in the middle of the park along side "Willo". 9th.Mar Holt FC 7-1 Another good performance from the boys and a good display from our keeper Peter on his debut, making a vital save in the first minute. All the lads were "up for it today" and the result proved the point. The defence played solidly and the midfield worked hard. A special mention to Gary Munro who scored 2 today playing in an unfamiliar role in the middle of midfield and to Captain for the Day, Ryan, who harried and chased everything, which set the pace of the game for the rest of the boys. 16th.Mar Athletico 11-4 A great performance from everyone, considering we started this game 4-0 down. Yet we had the game won by half-time,leading 8-4 and now face Fitwell in the semi-finals. Franny was rewarded for his efforts with 4 goals and Gary kept his run going with another brace, and Richie got his second in 2 weeks, but the goal of the season surely belongs to Ryan with an overhead kick from the edge of the area that flew into the top corner(he needed a rest after that!!). Well done to everyone and let's keep this good run going. 23rd.Mar Fitwell 5-1 Another good performance, with our stand-in manager,Reg,taking the team. A couple more goals for Ryan and Mark Hirst keeps his goal tally ticking along. 6th.Apr Holt 5-1 A workman like performance, considering we were only playing 8 men. They made it difficult for us in the first half, but they did tire in the second and we passed our way through them.Willo got the first, which settled our nerves and the other goals eventually came. Unfortunately, Peter was beaten for the first time in goal for us, but it was a penalty. 10th.Apr Cains 2-2 If we had shown this commitment, effort and skill every week, we would be winning the league.A great performance from everyone. Tom took his 2 goals well after great assists from Ryan. Franny set a great example of how to work when he hasn't got the ball. In midfield, Ben,Willo,Gary and Craig "worked their socks off" and the defence got a grip of their attack in the second half and reduced them to a couple of half-chances. 20th.Apr Fitwell 3-4 We won this game 3-1, but with the handicap of 3 goals down, we had too much of a hill to climb. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong today. 3 of our regulars couldn't turn up and Willo got sent off early in the first half for an instinctive save of the ball on the line. All credit to the lads on the pitch, as they gave everything, but it just wasn't to be. Good luck to Fitwell in the Final.
