14th Sept. Woolton 3-1 A bit rusty today, especially in the first half, much better in the second. Dom Clarke managed to toe-poke one and headed the other onto his own foot for the second, (but they all count!). Willo bent a free-kick into the top corner (good job the keeper only had one leg!!).We had a full squad out today and we managed to use all 4 subs and we still have 4 more to get clearance. 21st Sept. Custys A better all-round performance against a good team, they capitalised on 2 mistakes in the first half and we were unlucky at not putting away our numerous chances. 28th Sept. Premier 2-2 Referee's decision cost us this game, as it was never a penalty. 5th.Oct. Lynton 4-2 We were in total control of this game in the first half and played some really good approach work, but never really troubled their keeper and in the second half we were punished by a stunning goal from their striker, from25 yards out. We were given a gift later on by their keeper, who dropped one for sub, Ben to walk into an empty net. After drawing level, we went asleep at a set piece, giving them a free header. But in fairness we dug in and supersub,Mark came on and won us a penalty, which Willo converted and a few minutes later he got a good goal himself with a strike from the edge of the box. The third sub, Tom, broke away and crossed for Willo to get his second and our fourth to finish off the game. 19th.Oct Springfield 2-4 After a really good first half, where we restricted the opposition to a couple of half chances and went in at half-time 2-0.We threw the game away in the second half, following some individual errors. We have to learn to react positively after we concede. 9th.Nov Nicosia(Group Cup) 7-2 A great performance in terrible conditions, even though they had 9-men, that wasn't our problem.Nicosia had a 100% record going into todays game and we fully deserved our victory. James Leigh and Anthony Crowe commanded the mid field, the defence were solid and Jason led the line and scored 4 goals. Play like this every week and we will do alright. 23rd.Nov Macmillan(Group Cup) 3-1 Best performance of the season, everyone gave their all and fought and battled for every ball, under extreme weather conditions. The back 4 kept it tight and restricted Macmillan to only a few shots, which Chris saved. Chris came and caught some really difficult crosses to take the pressure of his defence. Highlights of the game: Johnny's last ditch tackle on Ryan, Tom's runs down the wing, Jasons killing one high ball with one touch, James dribbling all over the midfield, Dave controlling their winger in the second half, Mark, Joe and Anthony stopped everything coming through the middle,Craig chasing back for every ball. We played like a team today and long may it continue. 30th.Nov Springfield(Group Cup) 3-2 A good battling performance from our squad of 11.Soaked up a lot of pressure and hit them on the break. Chris in goal and Joe in defence, were outstanding and Tom up front ran his socks off and was rewarded with a goal and an assist in Jason's goal. Top of the group after 3 matches and a place in the semis, but we know we can play better than we did today. 14th.Dec Custys(Group Cup) 2-4 Our good run came to an end today on a bog of a pitch. After going 3-0 down against the run of play for most of the first half, we came back to 3-2 and missed a penalty, only to let them get a 4th near the death. Nearly a great comeback, but not quite. A few players didn't have their shooting boots on today! 18th.Jan Cains 2-4 How did we lose this match?Chris didn't have a save to make in the first half and we missed at least 4 good chances and hit the post twice. One lapse of concentration from a corner let them in to score and it was 0-1 at half time. The second half started fairly well and we won a penalty, Tom Loughran scored from the rebound. It kind of went "pear-shaped" after that and some sloppy defending from the whole team let them in for 3 easy goals. We did show some spirit and got one back, through Craig Johnston, but it was a case of "too little to late". 1st.Feb Macmillan 1-2 Nothing between the 2 teams. Only an unfortunate "own goal" from Willo gave Macmillan a lead at half time. We had a few half-chances from good crosses from Jason. In the second half they scored a good goal but we kept going and got our rewards with a great Jason strike with about 10 mins to go, then we hit the post,Tom had a good chance, as did Mark Hirst. Unlucky not to get an equaliser. 21st.Feb Macmillan(KO Cup) 1-4 After going 1-0 up and having 2 other very good chances to make it 3-0, we were punished for some sloppy defending. We were very much still in it at half-time, going in 2-1 down. But right from the kick-off we let them score another straight down the middle and by not clearing our lines. A couple of minutes later we conceded another and it was going to be an uphill struggle from there. Although we did start to pressurise them after that and created a few more chances, but were unable to capitalise on them. 1st.Mar Premier 0-2 0-0 until the last 5 mins, what more can I say. Not one of our best days. 8th.Mar Nicosia 2-2 After a disappointing first half and trailing 0-1 at half-time. The 2 substitutes made an immediate impact. Paul equalised after a great through ball from Richie Billing, but we let the visitors take the lead again. We showed good character to come back again, the goal coming from the most unlikely source, Johnny Vaughan's first ever goal for Harps, a great shot that went in off the underside of the bar. With a bit of luck, we could have won the game, but overall a fair result against the champions-elect. 15th.Mar Cains 0-1 How can we go from drawing with the top of the league last week to probably one of our worst performances of the season. What more can I say?
