Pablo Crofts has kindly sent me these pictures of his Thunderace. It's been tastefully and purposefully modified, to optimise it for two-up touring. Pablo, like me, feels that a touring machine doesn't have to weigh approaching 600lbs. It also should be nimble and still be comfortable for the pillion.

Pablo's Ace is extensively modified, though in a subtle way. It features a touring faiting conversion, made by Gouirand of France.

Once the fairing is fitted there's room for a fazer handlebar conversion, to give a more 'rider friendly' position.

The higher screen gives improved rider protection and blends sweetly with the fairing. Screens are available from www.mra.de/YAMAHA/yzf1000r.htm

The conversion gives a totally different riding position and should extend the comfortable riding range by 100's of miles.

So hopefully all the pro's of the Thunderace's superb perfomance and rock-solid handling (once sorted).

Alternative handlebar conversions are available at:- www.lsl-motorradtechnik.de/super.htm

His modifications to-date include:-

Fairing, bars, modified exhaust after the Exup for lower passenger

footrests, Corbins, Fireblade mirrors (longer arm)

TechnoFlex fully adjustable rear shock, braided lines.

Pablo also plans a number of additional modifications in the future. These include fitting a race can (he currently has a street legal Ixil can).

Nico Bakker clip-ons.

Maxton forks upgrade.

Marvic Penta Piuma magnesium wheels (total, shameful extravangance).

Hugger from NWS (anti-crud, not for the looks).

Most of the vulnerable areas will get covered with Armourfend plastic,(front of the fairing, top and rear of the tank, entire tail section). This will mean complete protection from all the soft-luggage damage, amongst other things.

Many thanks to Pablo for allowing me to show these pictures and showing what can be accomplished. And very nicely too I must say !
