Thoughts Trapped Inside

Dark sounds shadow the neon landscape. Flight's soundwaves crash against the surface of your mind. You could be forgiven for thinking time has stopped. Stopped, and then moved backwards to a place where musicality was honest and clear.

With "Thoughts Trapped Inside", something powerful is triggered. Your sleek Japanese Hi-Fi finally has something challenging to keep it occupied. Occupation is also on the mind of the creators. Flight try hard, perhaps too hard, to force their way into your artistic mindset. They want their music to break-in and take up permanent residence inside your soul.

So what of these subversive individuals? The bass frequencies are controlled by Davies' deep tones. He doesn't play his instrument - he attacks it. Flight have clearly laid out their power plan, and Davies knows he is crucial to its ultimate success. It is he who sustains the drive and momentum this band live to produce.

As for Jones, he is the thoughtful, creative center of the soundscape. His obsession is that of the perfectionist. His subjective mind is constantly seeking out the very edge of the music's tonality. And he's not afraid to step beyond it. Such coloring of music with angular modulation and dissonant harmony is the preserve of the artistic maverick. Jones is one such soul.

The frontman plays the pop star. It's a sad, and all too often repeated exercise. Thankfully, Algeo's far to busy for such nonsense. He's too busy delivering dark, acidic lyrics with deep emotional conviction. He's too busy creating complex counterpoint rhythms, and pounding out pure staccato syncopation on the drums. His vocal stylings are from the subtle, thoughtful side of the tracks. When he sings a line, you just know he means it.

Yes, recommendations are easy to give. All too often, however, they are driven by cynical, ulterior motivation. No such danger with this particular artistic collection. "Thoughts Trapped Inside" is real music, created by real people. Allow Flight into your life and their music will take you to a better place. They stand at the forefront of what many people hope will be a new musical dawn. It's an extravagant claim, but this particular cynic is starting to believe. Thank you, Flight!
