FOLK COMPANIONS

30th Anniversary celebrations

30th Anniversary weekend events

These are the first selection of photographs from the 30th birthday "bash" of the Folk Companions – including the above thumbnail of (one of) the marvellous cake(s) baked and decorated by Iain Gray especially for the occasion.

Unfortunately, most of us were too busy renewing old acquaintenances to take many photographs ! If you were there, and have some photographs that you would be prepared to share with everyone – please get in touch. How many present and former members of the group can you identify ?

The picture below shows the "massed band" which played for the evening, from past and present musicians from the group.

Can you spot two of the "Flying Brothers Grimm" ??

Stuart (back to the camera) and Bob (with glass) at the start of the (very nice) meal prepared by Dave and Val Sherlock. Folk Companions past and present enjoying their food – well we always did !

Some more guests, the Mayor of Thornbury, together with Hans-Jörg and Dorothea Brenner from Stuttgart (at whose invitation the group was largely formed in 1972)

Music and Dancing

The musicians playing for the dancing – with two sets seen below.

The “music session” involving: (clockwise from the top), Steve Watts, Naomi Sargent (nee Watts), Sandra Dawkins (nee Woodman), Phil Craig, Caroline Reeves, Lindsay Sydney (nee Hemmens), Lisa Davies, Sophie Gray, Yvonne Andow (nee Fawcett), Bob Baldwin, James Andow and Andrea Franklin (nee Dyer).

Bristol Playford Ball 2002

As part of the 30th Anniversary celebrations, the Bristol Playford Ball held on 16th November 2002 was organised this year under the overall direction of the Folk Companions. Below are some pictures of some members of the Folk Companions displaying some three couple dances from the 18th century. Those shown dancing in the pictures below are Tony and Cynthia Cockwell, Adrian Dyer, Diane Sumner, Iain Gray and Hazel Gray.
