FOLK IN THORNBURY - BAND STAND
This page contains some examples of the type of music that you could hear from the bands of the groups, together with some short video clips. We are currently looking to enhance the range of music available (and make the sample files smaller).

We now have a "Folk in Thornbury" CD available for purchase. This features music from the Turnberrie Castle and Folk Companion bands, together with video of Turnberrie Castle dancing, archive recordings of the Folk Companions and the complete contents of the Folk in Thornbury web-site. The audio tracks of the CD contain the following:

This tune is the Cotswold Morris dance "The Fools Jig" from the village of Bampton-in-the-Bush in Oxfordshire. (2) |

The music here is for a sequence of Playford dances in the "Triple Minors" dance formation. These dances are: Free Mason, Drapers Maggot and the Merry Milkmaids in Green.(2) |

The music on this track is from a sequence of dances - all of which come from the South-West of England, These are the Cornish Six-Hand Reel, Steamboat and the Somerset version of The Soldier's Joy.(2) |

This tune is called "The Girl I left behind me" and is used (amongst other dances) for a solo clog dance (the North Lancs. Heel and Toe).(2) |

(1) The Turnberrie Castle Band on these recordings were: Kevin Cooke (Concertina), Yvonne Andow (Recorder), Steve Harris (Octave Mandola), Linda Harris (Drum & Tambourine) and Judy Cockwell (Fiddle, Guitar and Bass). They were recorded in Thornbury on 24 October 2001 by Judy Cockwell, Judy also mastered the tracks.
(2) The Folk Companions Band on these recordings were: Chris Smith (violin), Yvonne Andow (recorder), Phil Craig (Accordian), Judy Cockwell (violin, whistle & additional instruments), James Andow (Morris dancer on 'Fools Jig'). Also in the band (but not recorded) are - Ros Hewitt (Accordian), Claire Knoop (Accordian). They were recorded in Thornbury on during November 2001 by Judy Cockwell, Judy also mastered the tracks.

(2) All sales are final, goods are not sent for evaluation and (except as required by English Law) refunds are not allowable, unless goods were faulty when shipped

(4) Whilst we have tested the CD on a range of CD players and PC equipment, we are not in a position to warrant (and we do not so warrant) that the CD will function correctly on all equipment or on the particular equipment owned by you.
(5) All performance and replication rights for material (audio, visual and written) on the disk are explicitly reserved.
