Lucy Castle

LUCY CASTLE is widely regarded as one of the leading fiddle players of her generation - both in her native England and in Transylvania where she has lived and studied extensively.

At sheep festival in Romania 2001Her father is English folk singer PETE CASTLE so she was brought up with an innate knowledge and understanding of folk music but also studied ‘classical’ music to degree level. It was whilst doing her degree that she fell in love with Transylvanian folk music. This led to several visits to Hungary and Romania; to a fascination with village life in Maramures; to living in rural Romania; and, of course, to the trio POPELUC - Lucy, Pete and leading Romanian musician IOAN POP.

Lucy is now living in Derby and is available for gigs at folk clubs, Festival and other suitable events and venues (often along with Pete, as Transylvanian music can’t be played solo). Lucy is also working with other traditional musicians in other world music fields and may also be available with a variety of other musicians in the future. Of course Lucy is still working with Pete and they are also available as a duo.

Lucy and PopicaShe/they can offer concerts, workshops, educational projects, talks on Romanian music, etc. They can also include storytelling and a bit of dance.

Roy Harris said:

"One day the folk scene will wake up to this young woman’s talent and place her in the top rank, where she deserves to be."
