Friday 5th to Sunday
7th October
It is now only a few weeks before
a riot of colour, flower garlands and ribbons, the clash of sticks, jingle of
bells and blast of dance music returns to Tenterden Town Centre. The 15th Tenterden
Folk Festival will run from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th October 2007
and is on course to see the biggest number of participating dance teams yet,
with hundreds of Morris dancers, Molly dancers, Scottish dancers, Appalachian
dancers, Slovakian dancers, Kentish Hooden horses, animal characters and giants
in the town on Saturday. Several of the
dance teams will also be staying over and dancing around the town on Sunday.
Guest singers and musicians are
coming to the festival from as far a field as America
and The Gambia as well as all over England,
Wales and Scotland. Tickets for the festival are now available
not only directly from the Trust but also from the Tourist Information Centres
in Ashford and Tenterden. Tickets are already
selling well and we have even had enquiries from New
Zealand and America. For those coming from further a field we have
a basic town centre campsite for caravans and tents or there is the Woodlands
Caravan Park
and campsite in Tenterden Road Biddenden which is less then 15 minutes away by
car. There are a number of small private
bed and breakfast houses not only in Tenterden itself but also in the
surrounding areas of Bethersden, Cranbrook,
High Halden, Rolvenden, St Michaels, etc.
Tenterden’s hotels offer the most convenient places to stay with the
White Lion right in the town centre and the Collina House, where many of the
festival’s guests stay, just five minutes walk away and The London
Beach Country Hotel and Little Silver Country Hotel on the
edge of the town. Several of the hotels are offering special rates to guests
attending the Festival.
The festival will start on
Thursday with two days of folk song, music and dance workshops for the students
at Homewood School
before the public events open with a concert on Friday evening. Between then and Sunday evening there are
then over 50 event making use of The Town Hall, Leisure Centre, Tenterden
Club, St Mildred’s Parish Church, Vine Inn, White Lion,
William Caxton and Woolpack as well as all the events in The High Street, The
Coach Park, the Town Centre Railway Station and Morris dancers and musicians on
the steam strains.
Changes to events this year include
the Friday evening concert being relocated to the Tenterden
Club, a bigger marquee and regular music showcase spots in
the garden of the Woolpack on both Saturday and Sunday, the Saturday evening
concert at the Sinden Theatre and, for the first time, a concert on Sunday
afternoon in the Tenterden Club. With a full weekend ticket you will have
access to all these events and many more at no extra cost. Full details of all Festival events will be
included in the 20 plus page free souvenir programme which is currently being
printed.
Full weekend tickets are now on
sale priced at £20.00, under 16s £10.00, until 1st September. We are also taking camp site books and
bookings for craft and music fairs and street stalls.
