Tenterden Folk Festival 2008

Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th October

Welcome barn dance

Please note that year’s Tenterden Folk Festival barn dance has been moved to the Friday night.  That is Friday 3rd October 2008 and will be held in The Moulton Hall and Evans bar of the Tenterden Club in Church Road. The main reason for change is that this is an excellent venue for the barn dance but unfortunately is not available on the Saturday evening due to a wedding.  The dance will start at about 8.00 p.m. and feature The Committee Band with caller Nick Walden

The Committee Band’s own biog

For more than a decade, The Committee Band has remained one of the most highly rated bands on the “e-ceilidh” scene.  Booked by all of the major English festivals and dance clubs and with three critically acclaimed CDs to their name, they continue to develop their repertoire of tunes from across the British Isles and Europe.

They have produced three albums, “dancemusic in 1997 and “it’s about time….” in 1999, both received critical acclaim and their long awaited third album “Marvellous” was released in December 2007.

The members of the band are:

·        Ian Dedic - Melodeon

·        Hilda Dedic  - Saxophones

·        Jeff Dent - Electric and Acoustic Guitars

·        Jay Gifford - Drums

·        Rob Gifford - Percussion

·        Penny Gillett - Fiddle and mandolin

·        Diane Moody - Fiddle

·        Tony Penneck - Bass Guitars

·        Gordon Potts - Guitar and Jew’s Harp

·        Mary Jo Searle - Recorders, Pipe & Tabor and Fiddle

·        Sam Skey - Sound Engineer

Working with their regular caller, Nick Walden, their rigid selection of tunes assures that the dances are given maximum lift and that there is plenty of scope for the complex, multi-instrumental arrangements that are the band’s trademark.

With a front row of fiddles, mandolin, sax, recorder and melodeon supported and complemented by a rock back line of guitars, bass and drums, The Committee Band remains the band to dance to.
