Tenterden Folk Day Trust / Tenterden Folk Festival is a registered charity formed in May 1994 to preserve and advance public education and appreciation of traditional and contemporary folk music, song, dance and other related traditions, crafts and folk arts as a part of the living heritage.  We therefore happy to co-operate with and support other organisers of folk events.

Tenterden Folk Club

Folk song and music in the Woolpack Hotel Tenterden

Tuesday 10th March and the second Tuesday of every month

 

The regular song and music sessions in Tenterden have been running since 1992 and now take place on the second Tuesday of every month in the bar of The Woolpack Hotel right in the High Street, next door to The Town Hall.  The Woolpack is a traditional English public house with plenty of character including wooden floors and beams.  A typical folk evening sees between 10 and twenty folk singers and musicians from Kent and Sussex gathering in the bar from around 8.00 p.m. and the music starts at about 8.30 and continues to 11.00.  All folk singers, musicians, storytellers and poets are welcome to come along and join in, or you can just come and listen to the music.  The music is mainly traditional English but also includes contemporary, blues, Irish, Scottish, European music, music hall and acapella: in fact most good acoustic music with a smattering of stories and poems.

SEFAN Regional Strategic Conference

Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Now so is time to ensure your place at this important Conference.  This is the first ever strategic conference for folk in the SE, and likely to be the only one for the foreseeable future!  With plan to end ACE support to Folk Arts England in 2 years time and the restructuring of ACE's administration to only four, larger, regional areas, this meeting comes at a crucial time so do come and be a part of it.  Apart from linking up with people and starting collaborations and programmes, we hope to set the tone and direction of SEFAN's work for the foreseeable future.  We are trying to limit the places to 60 so that we can strive towards real identifiable outcomes rather than just another talking shop!  So if you are intending to come get your confirmation and payment in quick now.  Read the full details and programme for the Regional Strategic Conference.

Frittenden Festival

Sing, dance and play!

Saturday 4th April

 

A Kent village-based folk festival featuring performers deeply rooted in the traditional singing, dancing and music of Kent, Essex and Sussex. All events take place at Frittenden's Memorial Hall and the popular Bell & Jorrocks pub.

Tickets Midday and evening sessions free; Workshops, Stepdancing showcase and Singaround with festival guests £2.50 adults and £1.50 children; Concert £4.50 and £2.50; Barn dance £6.50 and £3.50.

JEZ LOWE and The Bad Pennies

Part of Equator Ashford - Autumn 2009 series of world music concerts

Friday 10 July at Norton Knatchbull School, Ashford starting at 8.00pm

 

One of Britain's top attractions on the folk/acoustic/Celtic circuit. Jez Lowe and The Bad Pennies play the songs of Northern England. TENTERDENFOLK FESTIVAL 2009

Tenterden Folk Festival is a full weekend festival of folk song, music and dance.  Tenterden, situated in the ancient Weald of Kent, about 12 miles west of Ashford, is an ideal setting for this friendly, family folk festival.  It features one of the widest High Streets in the country lined with historic and listed buildings, numerous friendly pubs and restaurants and green verges
