Arndean Estate Powmill

Arndean Estate is the family home of Lt. Col. Sir Robert Stewart and situated at the foot of the volcanic Ochil Hills near the town of Dollar and straddles the border between the ancient County of Clackmannanshire and the county of Perth & Kinross with the postal address of Powmill. The 15th century Castle Campbell sits high above the town between steep ravines and its tower looks out on one of Scotland's finest views over the Devon Valley and the carselands of Stirling. Once known as Castle Gloume, it was the lowland stronghold of the Dukes of Argyll.
On a clear day, the scene stretches from Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument in the west, along the

winding River Forth to the east. When the mist is rolling along the foothills, there is a ghostly sense of timelessness and only the "Burn of Sorrow" can be heard tumbling over the rocks and high waterfalls through Dollar Glen. The Ochils were the favourite hunting grounds of the Stewart monarchs who rode out from Stirling Castle with the rare blue falcons bred on Craig Leith, the rockface above Alva.

This colourful and fitting backcloth was the location of the 2002 World and European Field Archery Championships.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL Robert Stewart being made a Knight Commander of the Victorian Order, having been one of only two people to hold the post of lord lieutenant of two counties.
He retired in August 2001 as Lord Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire after seven years and had held the same post for Kinross-shire from 1966 to 1974.
His selection for both counties came because the family estate of Arndean straddles the border between them.
Colonel Stewart was heavily involved in local government and established the Kinross-shire best kept village competition.
A 2nd lieutenant in the Scots Guards from 1944 to 1950, he then served with the Argyll and Sutherland TA from 1951-1965, during which time he rose to his present rank.
He has already been awarded the CBE for his work as chairman and president of the board of governors of the East of Scotland College of Agriculture.
