!!! NICE LITTLE EARNER FREE DOWNLOAD !!!

Nice Little Earner is a song for anyone that has ever spent their last £5 on a kebab at 3:00am after spending £25 on watered down lager at a shitty night club, knowing full well their fridge is empty and they don't get paid until the end of the week.

Nice Little Earner is a song for anyone who didn't see the irony in the phrase "Buy Now, Pay Later" until they couldn't even afford that kebab any more.

Nice Little Earner is a song for anyone who has an ISA. Or is on JSA.

Nice Little Earner is a song written by 4 or 5 Magicians frontman Dan Ormsby about himself. And the rest of his band. And you. And nearly everyone else in the western world. We're all grossly irresponsible with money. And if you aren't, you probably shouldn't be reading this as you can't possibly be a member of the music industry.

Nice Little Earner is a FREE DOWNLOAD available from Smalltown America.

!!! The 405 / Twitter / Tour Update !!!

So the tour is well and truly under way. If you haven't gone yet, you've still got Middlesbrough, Louth, Kidderminster, Birmingham and Reading to catch the band in these intimate venues before they hit the big-time!

Remember, if you do go along, take your phone/camera and grab a few photos. Send them our way and they'll go on the band's Facebook page and the best will go on here.

Talking of photos, our good friends over at The 405 (who incidently are re-launching their site today, so make sure you pop over and have a look!) have kindly sent us their pics from the recent Notting Hill gig that they put on. You can see them by going to the photos page, or if you're lazy, by clicking here. A special thank you to Tim Boddy for taking these amazing pics, and if you're interested, you can see more of Tim's work over on his Flickr page.

Now time for a reminder that as well as following the band through this website, their MySpace, the Facebook page, the last.fm page, you can also follow them on Twitter! And of course, apart from the band's official MySpace page, all other pages are updated/edited by me with no input from the band and are officially unofficial!

!!! FREE DOWNLOAD ON NME.COM !!!

Head over to nme.com today and you'll find a nice little surprise.

Today's Radar blog features none other than 4 or 5 Magicians.

Go there, read the article and download "Is This Your Ideal Man?". Not sure when/if the name of that track changed and suddenly added the "Is This Your" part, but there you go. Same track as the second release, just re-recorded and sounding better.

And finally, a reminder that tomorrow is Dan's Birthday "Do" down at The Windmill, Brixton. There's a great line-up and it's just £4 in. Get down there!

!!! NICE LITTLE EARNER !!!

For those of you who haven't been to see the band for a while, there's now a chance to hear one of the newer songs. Nice Little Earner (once described by Dan as "a cross between the Beastie Boys and Sum 41) is now up on the band's MySpace. So, instead of watching Sky Sports News and constantly refreshing the BBC Sport website for the latest deadline day transfer news, go and have a listen, download it, put it on your blog, get it out there. The more people that hear this (and the other tracks!) the better.

There is also more news on the forthcoming album. The band finished recording and mixing the as yet un-titled album with Ian Button (Death In Vegas, The Thrashing Doves) and are speaking as I type to a couple of small indie labels with a view to getting it released sometime in April.

I can reveal the album will run at about 40 minutes, comprising of 10 songs, 2 of which are brand new. More details to come on this as we get it.

And finally, British music bible (to some, at least) the NME recently tipped 4 or 5 Magicians for greatness in 2009! I was hoping to get a scan of the (small) write-up but life conspired against me and you'll have to settle for the written word instead...

Brighton five-piece 4 or 5 Magicians are more exciting than the prospect of Paul Daniels actually fulfilling his long-running promise to leave the country under a Labour regime. With lyrics so slick they make Alex Turner sound like a spluttering old colonel struggling with a cream bun and equal parts lo-fi bedroom fuzz and glorious art-pop melody (think Supergrass meets Shellac) we're struggling to think of one solitary loser who won't like this band. They're going to be the new Manic Street Preachers, but with less tights and guy-liner

So there you have it, losers of the world unite and make 2009 a great year for our intrepid band of magicians.

!!! NEW YEARS RESOLUTION !!!

Stuck for a New Years Resolution you can actually keep? Then make it that you'll get to as many 4 or 5 Magicians gigs as you possibly can in '09!

Those of you living in London or Brighton can make an early start in this as the band have announced a few gigs for Jan/Feb already - check out the Gigs page for more details and for the opportunity to be one of the first to see the new live line-up!

We got a late Christmas present from Dan came in the shape of a new version (though not the final version) of Forever On The Edge! Check out the band's MySpace to hear it.

Hopefully, we'll have more news on the forthcoming album soon, so keep your eyes open and you'll read about it here first. Unless, of course, you read about it elsewhere before...

!!! BLOGCAST !!!

In case you haven't already sauntered over to the Smalltown America blog, you should do so as soon as you've finished here. In fact, finish here and just go there now!

Dan has taken over the airwaves for Smalltown America's latest blogcast. There's a bit of an interview, some talking rubbish, some playing of some excellent music, and you get to hear the new single and a previously unreleased 4 or 5 Magicians track. Exciting times, eh?

Click here to be taken direct to the blogcast.

Don't forget there are a number of 4 or 5 Magicians gigs coming up in the next few weeks, so it you're London/Brighton based, make sure you get your arse along to a few.

And if you haven't already listened to the NEW ACOUSTIC DEMOS then head over to www.myspace.com/danormsby and add Dan as a friend. There are also a couple of in-depth blogs about the new songs to check out.

!!! NEW SONGS ON MYSPACE !!!

So, after a pretty quiet few months, we can announce that there are some new songs up on MySpace!

These songs are a bit different though, they're all acoustic, and they're all on a new MySpace page. has got his own page now for these songs, some of which may end up as "big rock epics" for 4 or 5 Magicians.

Particular fave is The Switch That Turned Off The Sun, which some of you will have heard live and Dan has said previously that this may end up on an album/ep at some point.

So get over to and add him to your friends. Don't forget to let him know what you think of the new songs while you're at it!

!!! NEW SINGLE/ALBUM DETAILS !!!

Coming to all good record shops (and some shit ones) this September, a brand spanking new 4 or 5 Magicians single!

Out Of My Hands / I'm In The Band will be released as a strictly limited edition 7" single, through This Is Fake DIY.

For all you digital lovers, it'll probably be available through iTunes as well. I'm really excited about this, as Out Of My Hands is one of my favourite Magicians tracks.

In even more exciting news, Dan has also spoken of a forthcoming album that should be out in November.

Featuring all your favourite tracks, plus a few you might not have heard yet. The track-listing isn't set in stone, but may be run like this:

Start Firing On The Signal
Your Fictitious Character
Forever On The Edge
Behind Each Others Backs
Ideal Man
Change The Record
Orderly Queue
I'm In The Band
The Switch That Turned Off The Sun
Just Another Headstone
Everyone About

That would leave just Out Of My Hands and Nice Little Earner off the album, but things may change before November.

As soon as anything more concrete is confirmed, you'll read about it here.

If you are based in the South, and you've not seen the band live yet, make sure you change this on either one (or better still, both!) of these gigs.

    !!! NEW SONG / TOUR UPDATE !!!

This Saturday's (June 28) gig at The Windmill, Brixton saw 4 or 5 Magicians play their first new song in years before an enthusiastic crowd.

"Nice Little Earner", described by Dan as "a cross between the Beastie Boys and....Sum 41!" featured the line "put in on your credit card" but other than that, several pints of Red Stripe cloud my memory. You'll just have to get down to your local venue and catch them on the tour that starts this weekend!

Check out the Gigs page for the latest tour dates and remember, if you can help put the band on somewhere between Newcastle and Lincoln on July 29th, then get it touch with them via their MySpace.
