![]() IsoMec now runs on Apple Macintosh Thanks to the help and interest of a team of Meccano enthusiasts in The Netherlands, we can confirm that IsoMec can now be used by owners of Apple Macintosh® computers and other Mac-compatible machines such as Motorola, Umax, etc. Corel Corporation have released CorelDRAW, suite 6, for the Macintosh®. This means that the IsoMec collection of drawings can be opened on Macintosh® machines, and assembled into complete diagrams in the same way as they can on machines running Windows. ![]() IsoMec gains Corel's Premier Status for Foxgrove In recognition of the development work undertaken with IsoMec, Corel Corporation have appointed Foxgrove Design Studio as a Premier Partner in their Corel Solution Partners Program. This is quite an honour considering that there are relatively few developers around the world who have been awarded this status. Of course, recognition of IsoMec is also recognition of Meccano® and, hopefully, we will gain some mileage for the hobby from this award. It was as a result of this award in 1996 that development work on IsoMec3D could begin. CorelCAD Becomes TurboCAD Solid Modeler It was recently announced that Corel Corporation had sold their interests in CorelCAD to the leading publisher of productivity software, IMSI, based in San Rafael, California, USA. The next version of CorelCAD will be released by IMSI in February 1998 and will be called TurboCAD Solid Modeler. IMSI confirm that TurboCAD Solid Modeler will be available world-wide with appropriate support and back-up services. IMSI have a network of distributors around the world and they have their own offices in USA, United Kingdom, South Africa, France, Germany and Australia. You can find out more about IMSI and TurboCAD Solid Modeler by visiting their web site at: http://www.imsisoft.com Some of the implications and benefits of IMSI's acquisition of the CorelCAD software are discussed in a special 'questions and answers' page which you will find at: http://www.imsisoft.com/corel/corelqa.html Foxgrove Design Studio will be working closely with IMSI in the UK to ensure that IsoMec3D is fully compatible with all new releases of TurboCAD Solid Modeler. ![]() IsoMec Masters Crawler Track and Sprocket Chain The latest release of IsoMec, version 2.2, includes Crawler Track and Sprocket Chain - two parts which were difficult to recreate. Here we show a drawing produced using both these parts. This crawler base comes from an original design by Mike Edkins and details of the original model, a crane, were first published in MMGG No. 14 in 1991. IsoMec in Action by Dave Heathcote (Transvaal Meccano Guild, South Africa) For those of us with modest Meccano collections (this includes those with Meccano rooms or houses) the storage of parts is an interesting aspect of the hobby. I recently bought one of those plastic drawer type cabinets with the idea to hold collars, small brackets and similar parts. Now, I am not one of those enthusiasts who talk about part numbers or even descriptions. It's like learning a new language! The drawers are clear plastic and parts can be seen easily. However, there is provision for three dividers, and as mentioned, with the smaller collections, three compartments is spot on. So when you look at the front, you see the parts in the first compartment, but the others behind are not easily seen. Enter IsoMec. Originally designed to produce clear, lucid pictures of assemblies and models that require little explanation in the way of assembly notes, I think this is an idea modellers can put to good use! Simply print out drawings of the desired parts on pre-cut labels, in colour if you wish, and stick them to the front of the drawers! Simple but effective. So, if you don't know your 63c's from your 46a's, this could be a solution. To save paper, work out your label sizes and parts and print one sheet full of parts, then cut and stick! This could also apply to those wooden drawer type cabinets, but I feel that it wood(pun!) detract from appearances. Try it out! |
