Plans for the Future

Current plans centre on the projects.

The 1851 Census Project should see another English or Welsh county covered on the web site at the rate of about one per month for the rest of this year. There are about 55 counties but many will have no Steer inhabitants or very few so the project should be completed sometime next year. Some counties have high Steer populations and will take longer than a month. Cornwall, Lincolnshire and Surrey have been mostly, if not completely, covered but there maybe a few more entries to add from districts at the edges of these counties. The plan is to cover Kent next, followed by Sussex and the southern counties across to Devon, then moving northwards and eastwards. The southern counties are expected to have high Steer populations and will take more than a month each, I may intersperse them with counties having fewer Steers to keep the momentum of the project going.

The GRO BMD Index Project will have the 1840-1851 birth entries added in mid April followed by the 1837-1851 marriage entries during May. Once the births to 1851 are available then the reconciliation exercise between them and the 1851 census can begin.

Information on the topics about the history of the surname and notable Steer people is being assembled and will be added sometime in the next three months.
