Introduction

As the new Chairperson of the New Frankley in Birmingham Parish Council, I welcome the opportunity of presenting my first Chairperson’s report to the residents of Frankley.

Firstly, I would like to express thanks to the outgoing Chairperson, Councillor Eric Carter, for the excellent work he has undertaken during his period of office.

Street Lighting

The upgraded lighting on the following roads and the pathways leading to them has now been completed Rea Fordway, High Timbers, Old Quarry House Close and Old Stone Close. There is still minor work to carry out on a few lamp columns but it is hoped that this will be completely shortly.

Frankley Neighbourhood Caretakers Scheme

The four caretakers, the cost of which is jointly funded by the City Council and the Parish Council, are doing a excellent  job around the area. Whilst it is accepted that to achieve the standards of cleanliness sought by the Parish Council will take a great deal of time and energy on their behalf, I am sure that the residents will agree that their efforts so far have lead to improvements in the general tidiness on the estate.

However, if any resident is aware of any overgrown hedges on the pathways on the estate or rubbish

being fly-tipped then please call and report the areas concerned to the Parish Office on any weekday morning in person or leave a message on the answering machine (0121 457 9410)

Bus Shelters

CENTRO have now informed the Parish Council that 7 shelters have been authorised to be installed around the Frankley area. It is hoped that the work to install the shelters will commence shortly.

Northfield and District Youth Forum

As part of the Northfield District, Frankley was asked to nominate two young members to the Committee of the above forum. I am happy to report that, following consideration of the nominations received, two pupils of the Community High School, Sophie Porteous and Laura Potter, have been selected to serve on the Forum.

They can be contacted and asked to put the views of what the young people of Frankley would want in the area  they will then put those views for consideration by the Youth Forum.

Rubbish and Garden Waste Sacks

It appears that some households are still putting out their black rubbish bags before collection day. In order that black bags are not left uncollected for days, they should not be put out until the night before collection day. It has also been noted that the residents involved in the Green Bags pilot scheme for Garden Waste are also putting the bags out days before collection day. Again these bags should only be put out the night before collection day. The collection day for the Green Bags is the alternate week to the waste paper collection. Residents of the streets that are involved in the Green Bag pilot scheme should note that the Green Bags are only to be used for grass cuttings, hedge trimmings and other similar garden waste but should NOT be used to dispose of soil/bricks as bags containing such items will not be taken.
