Frankley Schools Report

 Holly Hill Church School.

                    A busy end of term

The end of term and the end of the school year at Holly Hill Church School has been a very busy period.

Over 200 pupils from Holly Hill, Forestdale, Reaside and Trescott along with some from the High School joined together at Holly Hill on 7th July to make music at the Frankley Music Festival.  It proved to be a successful and very enjoyable occasion!

Year Two pupils had great fun at Weston-Super-Mare on 11th July.  Year One had earlier spent a marvellous day at the Black Country Museum and the Reception Classes became all excited when they met the animals at Umberslade Farm.

The term ended with events to mark the retirement of Mrs. Jill Frost as Head teacher.  The children had made a tape of Mrs. Frost’s favourite songs and each pupil had written a letter to her which were made into books so that Mrs. Frost could take wonderful memories of the school into her retirement.

When the school opens again in September, there will be a new Head teacher,

Mrs. Christine Parker.

                 FORESTDALE SCHOOL

Our busy year has ended with a group of teachers and children attending a reception at the Council House to receive a Certificate of       Distinction from the National Primary Trust, for our work in our  Creative Wednesdays.

We were proud of our children collecting over £650 for Barnados ‘Building Blocks’ Charity. Also a big thank you to parents and     families for their generosity; we collected nearly £1000 for the school’s Tsunami Appeal.

Mr Parslow has collected over 5000 Sainsbury’s vouchers for sports equipment. Well done and thanks to savers & collectors!

We are saying goodbye to class teacher, Mrs Rosemary Aveyard , who is retiring to spend more time with her grandchildren. Mrs Aveyard worked in the Beeches and Forestdale Schools for a period of 17 years.  We wish her a long and happy retirement.

In September we look forward to the opening of our Foundation Unit, in which we shall be in the forefront of a national strategy, combining Reception and Nursery.  Until then…

The Rice Show-14 Year 8  students have been working with Stan’s Café Theatre Company to create a  remarkable performance for Frankley and Birmingham City Centre. ‘Of All The People In All The World’ is a constantly evolving arts event, which uses grains of rice to represent individual human lives.  Throughout this term the students have collected statistics from their lessons and will then measure out the statistics as piles of rice during the show, which took place in The Lyttleton Suite on the 17 June 2005.  On Saturday 18 June the students took their work to        Birmingham City Council House in Victoria Square, where it was a highlight of the Celebrating Sanctuary Festival, part of National Refugee Week.  Also, several of the students have visited the prestigious  Thearter der Welt,     Stuttgart, Germany to see other members of Stan’s Café performing the premier of the world version of the show using 6.4 billion grains of rice.                                                                                                                                                                                               Opening Evening

On 6 July, Year 6 students spent the day at the School and in the evening their parents attended our Opening Evening. The evening was a great success and we look forward to our new students joining us in September.

School Awarded Silver Artsmark Award

The Artsmark Award recognises schools that demonstrate a commitment across all art forms, from drama to music, design to literature, dance to sculpture.  The scheme also encourages schools to work in partnership with artists and arts organisations.  Next year we plan to go for the Artsmark Gold Award.
