John Tagg

Occupation:Son James D/C - Yarn dyer. Madder dyer
John Tagg came from London to be madder dyer at Balfron Printworks.He lived
next door to George Mathieson at Balfron and subsequently removed to
Lennoxtown.Messrs Dalglishs Printworks moved from Balfron to Lennoxtown in
1806.His next door neighbour at Balfron was George Mathieson who also moved to
Lennoxtown in 1806 and worked with Dalgleishs at Lennoxmills,Printfield until
about 1831 when he retired.He was a Campsie church elder until his death.He was
born Loth,Sutherland 30Apr1763/4.He was the father in law of Charles Tagg.He
died at the post office,Crosshill St,Lennoxtown 7Mar1845 and is buried in the
old churchyard at Clachan of Campsie.

Claim 2Aug1808.Wife of John Tagg who was in Scotland.
Settlement Examination obtained from Wandsworth Library.
Tooting Graveney is 7 miles south of Charing Cross.During the period covered by
the index it was separated from surrounding villages by agricultural land. Some
inhabitants were employed in various mills(copper,paper,calico printing etc.)
in neighbouring parishes on the River Wandle.

The River Wandle is a small river in Surrey rising in the hills above

The last I have is she was alive in 1828 when Charles,married to Jean MATHIESON,died.
I will try on Tuesday to order film # 991747 which according to my reckoning includes Burials 1794 - 1876 in the parish of Ripley, Surrey.
