John Tagg

1881 Census:32 Gladstone Street Glasgow 644/8/1/13
Music teacher/lithographer.
My great grandparents, John Tagg and Margaret Winter must have moved to Ontario, Canada about 1886 along with 6 of their 9 children.
In 1895 John Tagg is listed in the Buffalo City Directory as a music teacher. In the New York State Census taken in 1915, he is listed as Rev. John Tagg, head, married, age 69 born Scotland , been in US for 29 years and living at that time in Lawrence, New York (near Ogdensburg) which is up in the St. Lawrence Seaway area of NY. I can remember my mother talking about spending parts of her summers visiting her grandparents in North Lawrence, so that was my clue to start looking in that area for them. Unfortunately, my grandfather, Charles Tagg died in 1919 so I never knew him. John Tagg also died in 1919 (a few months before his eldest son), probably in Batavia, New York where his son John was living at the time. Margaret Winter died in Hartford, Connecticut in 1929 while visiting her daughter Nellie (Helen) Tagg Bradley who lived there. From Marylin Hinton Feb2002.
