74. John Joseph Thornton Hamilton

Mrs.Hamilton,584 Gairbraid Street,Maryhill has been officially informed that
her husband,Private John Hamilton,A.& S.H.,has been killed.He was 25 years of
age and the second son of the late Mr.John Hamilton,ironmonger,Scotstoun.

He was in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders,Second Battalion.Place of burial:I have letter from Imperial War Graves Commission which was
sent to his mother 7th.March1927.
He was killed in the Third Battle of Arras April-May 1917.On 23rd.April,Haig
attacked East of Arras between Gavrelle and Croisilles and it was in this
attack that John Hamilton was probably killed.I have a photograph of his grave.Occupation:Ironmonger. He did not leave a will.

Sometime after the death of her first husband she married a Canadian soldier,John Anderson.At that time she was living at 584 Gairbraid Street which is part of Maryhill Road.John Anderson was staying at 576 Gairbraid St.
She emigrated to Canada with her son John.Married by declaration in presence of witnesses.
She was living Toronto 1934.Much later perhaps placed in home.
75. William Hamilton
Occupation:Clerk
Served in World War 1 in Royal Field Artillary in Egypt and Palestine.Was at all the battles for Gaza from March to October 1917.When war finished he was at Tripoli in the Lebanon.From beginning of war to about the end of 1916 he was stationed on the Firth of Forth.Saw the Lion returning from the Battle of Jutland.
